I've been coming to this salon for a few years. The location itself couldn't be more beautiful, The top floor of a very old building in Poughkeepsie with huge windows and views of the river and mid Hudson Bridge. Most of the staff is warm and friendly. Not pushy at all with products, and nice waiting area with water and lots of coffee options while you wait. After trying two different stylists, who were always punctual, with mixed results - they always listened and did their best with the photos I always showed I just was never in love with the cuts - so I decided to move on. Then I visited for a pedicure and the girl who did it had very cute hair similar to what I was looking for, she said Jen the owner cut it. So I thought I would give her a try. I was pretty happy with my first cut, but I waited a pretty long time as she juggled several clients at once. The next time I went I again waited, but she seemed pretty distracted, rushed, worked on several clients and I wasn't as happy with the results. I didn't show a picture that time so I thought OK my bad, I'll go back one last time and make sure I have pictures. I arrived on time. Saw someone in the chair, she was working on. That client left- another hops in the chair and she blow dried and styled her long hair. Another client arrived about 15 minutes after I did. She was taken into the shampoo area. Then I see HER sit in Jen's chair and she proceeds to put foils in her hair. I flag down the receptionist and ask if she knows I'm here waiting since that other customer came in after me. She assures me yes and that she asked Jen if she should wash me yet and she said no and that her plan was to just put a few foils in and then it would be my turn. Well, my plan was to come in for a 5 o'clock haircut. I understand sometimes people run late, but this is a recurring theme. She seems to over schedule herself purposely. She never came out to apologize to me or explain that she was running late, she didn't even make eye contact or acknowledge me when she was at her station. And it wasn't a few foils it seemed to be an entire head of highlights. 40 minutes after my appt time, I was still waiting, so I walked out. Called the next day to explain why I wouldn't be returning. I always make sure to be on time for my appointments. And rest assured if I showed up 40 minutes late for my appointment, they wouldn't take me. An owner, making someone wait 40 min is unacceptable and unprofessional. There are plenty of other salons in the area who treat customers better. read more

WARNING ALL BRIDES: DO NOT BOOK! I had been in contact with Joanna for 3 months trying to pay the deposit to ensure that my day was saved (us brides like to check those boxes, am I right?). After months of back and forth, I decided to schedule two days to speak with Joanna that she picked and suggested, but I wasn't able to get a hold of her for both days. I called again and left a message expressing concern, which angered Joanna. She called me back the next day at 6AM, threatening to cancel on me because she didn't like that I didn't consider that she was busy. My fiance got on the phone and tried to find a solution, since she was meeting me with so much attitude. He expressed that he would like to pay the deposit but mentioned not feeling comfortable paying via check through the mail and opted to pay over the phone, to which Joanna gave us attitude for not knowing that we could pay with any employee, not just her (information she should've relayed to her staff, not to unknowing customers). We opted out of doing business with her, but felt inclined to warn other brides and people to not trust her with your big day!! Skip the headache and find professionals, not bullies. read more

I had explained in detail, with pictures, what I wanted in a haircut, which you totally ignored and lobbed off all length in the back, as I wrote in my review. There was no miscommunication, as you say, except that I communicated and you missed. You say you wished you had been given the opportunity to fix the unevenness, which was minor compared to having my hair chopped off. What would you have done, shave my head? I gave you all the opportunities I'm going to give you. Also, I suspect we both know why you chose to respond to the review now, three months later, and it's not because you just saw it. read more

Clients are expected to remain silent if it turns out they are unhappy with anything regarding the services received. Meaning, either you accept the way the services are performed, say nothing, and just pay with a smile. What if you need a natural hair dye ? that's an issue that will be thrown in your face that has been a big problem for the owner... Also, if you're willing to wait for your appointment because the stylist is, the majority of time, working on someone else when you get there, but you are expected to just get a cup of coffee while you wait (and say nothing of course) but don't you be late 5 minutes (usually from the situation with parking) tabs are being kept and you'll hear it - but making you wait is okay! Mainly, it is because the owner believes she has it all together, (which she does not), and if you are assertive and care about the way you're treated and respectfully try to discuss it, she is unable to accept it, and you are then to be "uninvited" (she means disinvited). Certainly, not good ways to run a business if you care to have a good one. And if you need to park in the disabled spot, don't say anything if week after week there's a beer truck parked across the disabledspot (and the very few other spots in the very small parking lot- making you late for your appointment) because that to them is considered an invalid " complaint" rather than an illegal and unfair practice that is affecting their customers! So, the bottom line is. if you are wiing to take your chances and be sure to smile even with results that cause you concerns (like lighter highlights on one side and hardly any on the other) leaving you unhappy, and if you are willing to say nothing but pay for everything then give it a shot. I personally believe this salon needs new and (much) better management and a new client policy where the staff provides services to the clients and not the clients serving the staff. Just find someplace else to go and save yourself from a bad experience or two. read more

What an amazing experience. I have been on the hunt for a great salon for a few years and I finally found it. First off, the salon itself is stunning - a beautiful, clean atmosphere with a great view of the river. The staff is hands down the friendliest staff I've ever met. Deanna did my hair today and she completely transformed my dry, brassy blonde to healthy, radiant red. I have never had such a comfortable experience. Everyone needs to come check this place out. If I could give this 0 stars I would, I went to this salon bc the reviews looked good and could not get in with my personal hair dresser I made the appointment, the woman at the front desk was phenomenal, great when I walked in as well..I was new to this establishment so I trusted the reviews and was set with Hallie for a dye and cut mind you my hair is short (pixie cut) I showed her what color I was looking for and cut, it seemed like she understood the look and color I wanted.. everything seemed on point till half way through and noticed that my hair was dripping in dye thinking she would clean my face and back of neck, nope.. washed my hair and glazed it thinking the price would be cheaper than a cut as if my hair was long only to be told the price would be well over what I anticipated asking me if I was ok with the price as if I had a choice? Only to rush job my haircut which was uneven and the color was FARRRR from what I asked for and the cut was uneven to learn she had another client waiting.. ling story short, I walked out of there with dye all over my neck face and ears and the only advice she could give me was "use windex" " itried to get what I could get out" ... I could not wear my jacket home as it was white.. I went to pay at the front desk and watched another client whom was apparently waiting.. paid the services only for Hallie to walk up and grab the tip from the front desk, walk away with no thank you as if it was owed to her.. she came off as entitled to other beauticians.. never will I ever suggest this place to any friends or family! Plz do better with your beauticians and service because this was the worst dye job I have ever seem for 250 .00 and was not worth the money I paid.. watching all the other beauticians I didn't notice this but Hallie came off as entitled toward other coworkers and just simply entitled with a negative attitude toward the end.. I had to pay at another hair salon to have the excess dry to be removed.. this was simply a bad experience and again the dye job was horrendous and no logic to the way the color was put in my hair... Hallie was horrible if looking for a haircut and dye/glaze! If your a new client! I just had my entire bridal party get ready here and it was such a lovely experience. As mentioned it is located in an older building but when you're in the salon it's very beautiful and the view is great. They let us all put our dresses on there and then we took pictures down by the water. Everyone there was so kind and made the day so special. Joanna did my makeup and Bri did my hair and both are so great at what they do and were so fabulous. My whole bridal party was so happy with how they looked. This is a great place! read more

I just wanted to post about my recent visit to Luxe Salon and Spa. I'm not sure what Ari is talking about, but below is my experience with going to Luxe Salon & Spa during a pandemic. People who know me know that I am VERY particular with my hair and who does my hair. I've had some terrible experiences until I started going to Jennifer and the girls at Luxe Salon & Spa. Talk about luxury in Poughkeepsie! From the moment you want into their space, you're immediately at ease. I've been getting my hair done by Luxe Salon and Spa since 2012, and they have never disappointed me. Now I live in Los Angles and continue to see the girls in Poughkeepsie. I get my hair done less, but each time I'm home, I plan a trip to them. I've been home since the pandemic and was thrilled to see that Luxe Salon and Spa reopened. I loved that they made me feel safe during my visit. Everyone was wearing masks, and the girls wore gloves to protect their hands from colour and make sure I was the safest I could be. They took the necessary steps to make me feel safe during this pandemic. As I mentioned, I'm pretty particular, and the salon was extra clean, from the door handles, to the floors, to the salon chairs. The bathrooms were extra clean. There was plenty of soap, towels, and hand sanitizers. They limited the amount of clientele in the salon at a time, which made me feel like a superstar during the pandemic! The attention to detail is why I started going to the girls, but they took it over and beyond since opening their doors. We were in NY last week for a wedding that my husband was a groomsmen in, and I wanted to have my hair and makeup done because I knew we'd be in a lot of professional pictures and I wanted to match his handsome with some classy. I found Luxe Salon & Spa on Yelp, and based off the reviews, distance from the wedding ceremony, and the pictures I saw, I called and made an appointment for hair and makeup. Firstly, I love LOVE love the vibe of this place! Beautiful, classy, friendly and overlooking some gorgeous views of the Hudson River. Joanna, co-owner and makeup stylist, was so kind, welcoming, and created a makeup look that made me feel comfortable, and not like I was overdoing it. Deanna, the stylist, was awesome. She did my hair in a way that was complementary to the styles I'd shown her, but with her own spin on it. It looked fabulous, but without upstaging the bride and her bridal party. If I could have boxed up Luxe Salon and brought it back home to CA with me, I would. This would be my place for all things self care. read more

I was a bridesmaid in a wedding and we used this salon for nails, hair, and makeup. I was extremely impressed with the service and the talent. They gave us all the looks we envisioned and help tweak things along the way. My hair is extremely difficult being frizzy and curly so I was concerned about it holding out in an up-do for 14/15 hours. Imagine the stress and pressure that comes with doing up bridal parties on the busiest wedding weekend the Hudson Valley has ever seen. Now, you can appreciate how their welcoming attitude and careful attention speak volumes. We were a teeny tiny bridal party, which I am sure helped make the experience even more relaxed for all involved. Prosecco mimosas and fresh fruit kept mine and the bride's blood sugar levels up as we sat to have our hairs pinned and curled in place. The side swept style I chose created by Kourtney did not get destroyed despite spastic dancing for three hours straight. I think I only lost a bobby pin at the very end of the night. This is thoroughly impressive, considering how our hair still moved naturally in the breeze. The bride's baby's breath looked alive and well in her elaborate side braid/curled nest at 1 am, after being spun, smushed and pulled all over the place. Our makeup was also rather impressive. We both opted for soft smokey eyes, light lip and contoured cheeks. Remember all that dancing and spinning? Sweat poured down our faces, backs and cracks and not one streak could be detected. 80 percent humidity did nothing to ruin what our makeup artist created for us. So, if you have a special occasion or in need of bridal TLC, spend the money and trek up river. These women are absolutely worth it! read more

Paid $70. Asked for straight-line over my shoulders and back plus color. Received: uneven chomped up hair, no coloring process used. Brianna just chomped my hair up and washed it ? When I called the owner Jennifer, she yelled at me, telling me I was unreasonable, said she never return my $70 and hanged up, really? She later called back and apologized, but still would not return my money. If you want an apology from Jennifer, plus bad haircut for $70, with bonus of good old-style high pitched screams, minus color (while being charged for it), go and see Jennifer and Brianna at Luxe Salon and Spa on Main St in Poughkeepsie? I was here for hair and makeup for my friend's wedding along with other bridesmaids. First off, I really appreciated the fact that they accommodated us on a Sunday, their day off. Deanna is a wizard with hair because she managed to create an indestructible up do that lasted 12+ hours. My hair kept its shape and never went flat. I'm not quite sure of the name of the girl that did my make up, but she's amazing as well. I was expecting to be caked on with makeup but surprisingly, she knew not to do that to my face. She managed to not put a lot of make up but make it look like I'm still wearing some. My face, especially my eyes, came out great in photos! From what I observed, all the girls seemed to be consistent with all their clients. They were very patient and accommodating. The place is adorable. They had mimosas, fruits, and other snacks. It also has an amazing waterfront view! I would definitely recommend this place for bridal hair and makeup! read more

I was at Luxe in early October. I had Hallie give me highlights and lowlights and a cut. The "cut" was just a trim - not a cut. I asked for advice on a hair cut and she gave me none.. just gave me a trim. I went on to their website the next day and filled out the "contact" form explaining that I wasn't really happy and no one ever contacted me. I didn't expect my stylist to contact me but I did expect the owner to contact me to see how I could be a satisfied customer. It would have been good customer service. read more

I normally don't write reviews, especially poor ones, but I have never felt so ugly and dissapointed after leaving a salon. I went in for a bridal hair and makeup trial and after repeatedly saying that I did NOT want black eyeliner, what was on my eyes. Yes, thick black eyeliner and poorly applied at that. The colors were nothing like the makeup picture I showed Delyla, (she used purple eyeshadows rather than the gold and bronze that I requested), there was no highlighting done, and just thick, caked on foundation that excentuated wrinkles. I explained my unhappiness with the color choices and black eyeliner and she tried to blot some off but told me that she can't change it after it was already applied. Why it was applied in the first place, I do not know. I had my hair done by Briana, who was very niceand seemed quite talented but rushed through my hair even though I advised her that my hair wouldn't hold with a curling iron and didn't even ask if I wanted to try another style or set it (even though I was paying for an hour of hair work). When I booked the appointment, I was told that the best makeup artist would be working on me. When I went to pay, they wanted me to pay for another half hour so that Briana could stick my veil in the (already fallen) hair since my two hours of time was up. I advised Joanna that the time was spent trying to "fix" the makeup that I specifically asked not be used. Needless to say, I was utterly shocked and appalled at the lack of talent, professionalism and horror at my experience. It looked like a mortician applied my makeup. But I was too embarrassed and upset to press the issue so I paid my $150 for the trial (plus 20% to hair and makeup) and left. When i called to cancel my wedding day appointments and explained why, they offered for me to try another artist and advised me that a manager would call me to discuss. I never recieved a call from the manager only from Joanna to confirm my cancellation. I have never been more appalled. What a terrible waste of money, almost $200 for the worst salon experience of my life. read more

I'm writing this review just so future customers are aware of this Spa's definition of a manicure. By definition a manicure consists of filing and shaping the free edge, pushing and clipping (with a cuticle pusher and cuticle nippers) any nonliving tissue, treatments with various liquids, massage of the hand, and the application of fingernail polish. I did get my nails clipped, filed, pushed, and polished. I did not get clipping (until I asked and then no sides were clipped, just the tops), no treatments with liquids, no massage. The pampering vibe is what was lost on me and I left pretty disappointed. Also the paint job was sub par. I kept asking for the sides of my nails to be painted to wish she would reply "this is as close as I can get without getting your skin." Ummm I always get my whole nail painted, not just the middle and if you get it on me then clean it up, but don't just not try. My suggestion is to take the $30 for your manicure and go elsewhere. read more

I chose Luxe Salon & Spa because their prices were reasonable for college students like myself. I no longer live in the area, but I had an excellent experience here the handful of times that I went. First off, I love that they do special offers for new customers' first 3 visits. It's a very nice welcome gift and definitely kept me coming back. While the place is small, it also makes the experience personal and individualized. I was always offered a drink if I was in the waiting area upon my arrival. I didn't ever book a hair service here, but I did have nail and spa services done because of their great offers I received via email. Their esthetician, Melissa, is wonderful. Not only is she very friendly, but she is also knowledgeable and helpful. She gave me really great advice with regard to my skincare. Deanna, their nail technician, is sweet and remembered details from our prior conversations. The place is kept clean and the staff is very friendly.
