Jenny has the hands of a god! I had to cancel last minute because I became sick she didn't charge me and I wound up coming in the next day and I'm so glad I did! She gave me the exact color I wanted! Couldn't be happier.
When I arrived, my hair was a tragic range of different brown colors from home box dye experiments. It really needed a professional hand to even out the color and give it some love. Madeleine P. came to the rescue and created such a natural, warm, chocolate brown color that I love. 10/10 would recommend.
I've seen Scott three times now for highlights and a cut, and I love how my hair looks! I'm mostly maintaining my blonde color and length, and he's managed to keep it looking natural and healthy. Aside from the great technique, he's super personable and follows up in between appointments which is a great touch. Highly recommend! The reason I started seeing Scott is less than thrilling though and hopefully something the salon can improve on. I've been a loyal client of Sarah's for over 2 years. She cancelled an appointment with me last minute the day before a color appointment due to a personal situation. Since Little Lion is part of Fox & Jane, they don't have their own receptionist and I was informed by an automated text. They offered me a make-up appointment for the next week, but I had scheduled travel plans around my hair appt since she is always busy. The only other date they could offer me was TWO MONTHS later! Aka after when my next appt was scheduled for and way too late for a fake blonde like myself... The only reason I found Scott was because I went on their website on my own and found a time; the text receptionist didn't apologize nor offer to help me. Emergencies happen and appointments will be rescheduled, but I was shocked by how indifferent and unhelpful they were, when I wasn't at fault. I've been a loyal client of the salon, buying gift certificates and tipping during the pandemic, and scheduling appts 6 months out. Because of this snafu, I was unable to get back on Sarah's books. I hope the salon recognizes that hiring a receptionist or otherwise working with clients 1:1 is valuable, since it was surprising to be treated as disposable.
I had such an amazing experience with Scott my first time visiting Little Lion! I did a ton of research when trying to find a new stylist for my highlights and after finding Scott and finding out there wasn't an available appointment for 3 months (!) I was super skeptical. In fact, I was so skeptical (also unemployed) that I actually bought box dye on Amazon and sincerely considered cancelling my appointment. I'm SO glad that I didn't. The salon is lovely! When I arrived (definitely 5 minutes late, which they didn't call me out on) everyone was so nice! I had a color overhaul in store for me so I got to witness several of the stylists work their magic on other women (including a pretty major color correction) and everyone is clearly incredibly talented. (Also the young woman next to Scott's station is HILARIOUS! I hope you have the best time in Paris!) And Scott. What a magician. I am NOT great at explaining what I want done to my hair (which is probably why I've been unhappy with it for so long) but after showing Scott ONE picture - and then telling him but not that blonde, or really that tone, but like *that* (::gestures wildly::) he got it. Scott did a great job of explaining what and why he was doing what he was, but he was SO fast that I continued to be skeptical the entire time I sat in the chair. He mentioned low lights, and fixing my roots, and also brightening the blonde especially in the front but I just saw him putting in foils. SILLY ME - Scott was low lighting, and highlighting my hair (with balayage AND foils) at the same time. He also was NICE (while still being honest!) I can't recall another experience with a stylist where they complimented my hair and didn't berate me as a way to buy products. In fact Scott didn't bully me into buying anything - or even making a super quick follow up appointment. My next appointment is for 4 months from now. He explained to me that he really tries to give his customers low maintenance styles while making them look as gorgeous as they want. This place is not cheap, but I spent less here than I have at other places in BK and Manhattan (including The Bird House) and it was definitely worth it to me. This is also the quickest I have EVER had my hair highlighted and cut. (3 hours!) There were only two detractors (one minor, one less so, but I'm guessing temporary) neither of which keep this from being a five star experience: 1. The drink choices are only still and sparkling, which is great (and the sparkling is Perrier so *fancy*) but if I'm spending $400 dollars on my hair, a glass of wine would be nice. 2. The day I was there, there was no hot water. They handled it super well, and I'm sure my hair is shinier because of the cold water washing, but not ideal when you're spending this kind of money. Can't wait to come back in November! Thank you, Scott!
Honestly I could not recommend Little Lion more. Tania at Little Lion has been my stylist going on two years now and I LOVE her and her work. She really understands my hair (which is not the most straightforward to work with, with straight and curly parts, and a cowlick in the bangs); she listens to my ideas (even when they're not that well-articulated -- English is not my first language, and I'm pretty terrible at hair-specific vocabulary) and thinks about how to make them work, and has suggested some other great approaches that I would not have thought of -- all to just fantastic effect. She has truly made me see my hair with new eyes, and has taken it to a whole new level. I went from feeling pretty ugh about my hair to being really into it, even trying new cuts and bold color. (Best compliment so far: a random stranger yelling at me on the street, "hair! It's awesome! Who did it?") Not only is Tania a fantastic professional, she's also so enjoyable to be around -- as is everyone that I've experienced at Little Lion: such a welcoming and friendly atmosphere, it always feels like a treat to come here. As an aside, as a cat person I've enjoyed the little, tasteful hints to kitties throughout the space and the conversation :) I've been recommending the salon, and Tania in particular, to several of my friends. I've always felt safe here (even when covid was pretty bad), respected, seen, and celebrated. Thank you! One thing I'd give folks a heads-up about is that they tend to book out quickly (which speaks to their popularity), so you'll want to try and book early.
I was recommended this place and For Danielle to do my color. I saw her work on Instagram and was very impressed at her hair painting skills! I felt she was a great match for what I was looking for. The place is a hidden cozy gem on 4th Ave in Brooklyn. They are set up properly during Covid, and very safe. It seems they are doing anything and everything they can to make everyone safe. Danielle was wonderful, educational, and friendly. She is very talented and KNOWS WHAT SHE IS DOING. She also knows HOW TO RUN A BUSINESS- and that is something many business owners lack. Little Lion is killin it! A Brooklyn must try for artsy females to get creative color done. Full of the best products, people, and color!
I have not stopped showing off these before and after pix! If I have your number in my phone, I'm texting these pix to you!!! My mom/coworkers/friends/people from high school trying to sell me essential oils/Bumble date who ghosted me - you're all getting these pix sent to you because EVERYONE NEEDS TO SEE THE FINEST BALAYAGE WORK BY SUPREME QUEEN JENNY P!!!! I had the most hideous quarantine cap (a Quarantine Cap is hair that has not been colored in months due to quarantine so your roots have grown out and look like a Brunette beanie hat/cap). Jenny's paint brush was more like a magic wand! Look at all that dimension! Cannot. Stop. Raving. About. It. I felt completely comfortable and extremely safe at Little Lion. Everyone wore masks and gloves. Each station was wiped down numerous times. There was hand sanitizer everywhere. Shower curtain dividers. Supreme hygiene galore! Covid is denied at the door like a drunk girl trying to get into the club! I arrived at 10am, chatted with Jenny for a few minutes about what color I was going for and compared balayage inspo-pix, and then she got to work. [Be sure to check out her insta for a time lapse of the whole process @hair.by.jenny] By 3pm, after coloring, an olaplex treatment, and a blow out, this gorgeous blonde creation came to life! Thank you so much to Jenny and Little Lion for giving me one of the brightest days I've had in 2020! See you in November for a touch-up!!!
I found Jenny while looking for a natural balayage specialist to switch up my super overgrown, ashy CoVid look. And I'm so glad I reached out to her and patiently waited for months before I could see her. I showed her couple of pictures of what I had in mind and she absolutely delivered. I'm super happy with the results and can't wait for my next appointment. She is such a sweet person and gave me multiple tips on how to style my hair. Highly recommend Jenny!!
I found Little Lion Salon and stylist Jenny after my salon closed due to Covid, and I feel so grateful! I think going in blind to a new salon found online in NYC can be nerve wracking, but this was the first color I've had in over a year and half, and it's the best I've ever had! Every image these stylists post on instagram is gorgeous flawless color, and my in person experience was no different. Worth every penny, worth the wait, and I'm excited to have a new home neighborhood place to look forward to going to. I'd give ten stars if I could!
This was my second time going to Little Lion Salon and having Abigail as my stylist. Abigail is a gem! She asks lots of questions to make sure she understands what you are looking for and is also upfront about the pricing before the appointment begins. I have had my hair cut twice by her before with great result but this was my first time doing color and she did not disappoint! I left with my hair feeling happy, healthy and my confidence boosted since my color looked so good. Abigail really takes the time to care about what you want and it shows every step of the way - I highly recommend visiting her for all your styling needs! From a safety perspective, Little Lion Salon is taking all the right precautions. Masks are required for the whole visits, stations separated and sanitized after every use and hand washing required the second you walk in. They also ask a serious of questions to every client to make sure they are following proper guidelines. I was a bit nervous returning to the salon but felt safe in their hands!
Updating my review to five stars based on Little Lion partnering with me to fix the original cut and color. Little Lion sent me about half the amount as a store credit. Given the gesture I decided to try the salon out again. I returned today to the Williamsburg location. Brittney transformed my hot mess of hair into a sophisticated, multifaceted, and perfectly cut masterpiece (see newest image). Brittney took the time to consult with me and understand my preferences and habits. She even found the perfect shade for my skin tone. Danielle, who originally cut and colored my hair, seemed genuinely positive in her interactions with me. It is super mature of her (and shows her business savvy) to work with me through this and turn the latest visit into such a delightful one that I will now be a net promoter. PS the Williamsburg location is gorgeous
I couldn't recommend seeing Brittany at Little Lion more! I wanted that perfect natural but bright blonde hair. Brittany was able to blend the highlights into my naturally dark brunette hair so seamlessly & in harmony with my natural color rather than going against it. She explained that having that bit of contrast is really what will make those blonde pieces pop and that in placing these highlights in this way would make for a more natural grow-out process. I really appreciated her attention to the longevity of my color as like to go sever months before having to get a touchup. As incredibly detailed as she was in placing the highlights she was also extremely efficient and finished my highlights in an impressive time considering my copious amount of hair. As incredible as the color was the cut was nothing short of perfection. For so long I have been getting blunt haircuts that have weighed down my hair and my face as a result. Brittanys organic, non fussy style of cut was exactly what I needed. She nailed the perfect coveted curtain bang and it frames my face perfectly. Brittany is so fun and personal to chat to and made the experience that much better. Will definitely be making another appointment with her! 10/10

Phenomenal salon; the staff and vibe are always positive and friendly. I've been going for many years now and I always leave a happy customer. I get my cut and color from Jenny and she is truly a professional. This is a small business that provides high end services without being pretentious. It's always a good time at Little Lion. read more

Danielle gave me the BEST brunette of my life. Brunettes need special attention and it's just so rich, chocolate-y and natural. I go only twice per year so I need something low maintenance that grows out seamlessly. Also, just good times! She was so sweet and easy to talk to, and it made the time fly by. read more

Two weeks ago I made a HUGE mistake by entrusting this salon to touch up my beautifully done highlights. My usual stylist lives far away so I thought I'd give this salon a try. Every day I wake up wishing I hadn't. Ashmaly was incredibly unprofessional and sloppy. Pouring too dark of a toner over my blonde hair making it brown. I asked to maintain my current blonde and to just touch up my roots. She was alone in the salon and tending to another client while working on me. There were no assistants, no one else there... (red flag) while the slathered on toner sat in my hair too long. I had to physically get up and tell her to wash it out. Why is that my responsibility? I contacted the salon to fix it and they told me to come in immediately which they should've advised against. The aggressive lifting and retoning on my hair has permanently damaged it. My hair was too porous and the color just faded away to a brassy orange instead of cool blonde within a few hours. So I incurred trauma for absolutely no reason. My hair color and structure are ruined. In the two weeks since this has happened my scalp is extremely irritated, my hair is simultaneously falling out rapidly along with breakage. I was working steadily on my hair health and it will take 6 months to a year if I'm lucky to return it to its former state. It's so extremely dry and so fragile that I can't even brush it while dry and have to invest in many expensive products like K18 to try and help it but there's really no fixing it besides painstakingly growing it out and trimming it. I can't even get a blow out to make myself feel better. I have to wait months to heat style. I've contacted the salon multiple times and never received an apology or even an offer of free products / trims to help my hair. I had to shell out even more money to get treatments and a haircut at another salon which was professional enough to be very careful with my weakened hair and advised me against blowouts to maintain the integrity of what's left of my hair. I only wish Little Lion salon was professional enough to say it was way too soon to lift my hair and just wait. It would've saved me a lot of stress, trauma, and money. This has been a complete nightmare. You tanked my self esteem. I'm humiliated going out with my hair like this. My hair was just fine before and now I have to look into wigs (YET another expense) to try and save my sanity. You really should be ashamed of yourselves for what you did to me and showing zero empathy on top of it. It's not just hair it goes deeper than that. You need to be careful with people's hair. If you're incapable of something then SAY NO and save them from all the stress and trauma. PLEASE do not trust this salon to do your hair. Edit: like I said in my review the fix was done too quickly and I didn't realize the damage that was done until after I left the salon when the color quickly faded back to orange a few hours later and became drier and drier. My hair is STILL rapidly breaking and shedding and I will have to use a wig due to the extreme damage this salon did. They refuse to compensate me or take actual accountability. They said to come in to see the same stylist that damaged my hair. I asked to see someone else, the salon owner or someone in a senior position and they refused that as well. Notice they say they wish me well when I'm literally going bald and they've destroyed my hair and confidence. read more

After my usual hairstylist in Manhattan left town, I decided to visit this salon in my neighborhood after following them on IG for a few months. I had such a great experience with Gail, who gave me the blended blonde and curtain bangs of my dreams. I love that she asked me lots of questions about what I was looking for, and checked in often to make sure everything was what I expected. Felt very safe and welcoming in terms of COVID safety too. I will definitely be back! (But not for a whiiile because this color will grow out so well!) read more

I can not say enough wonderful things about Jenny. I was looking for a new hair salon/hair stylist a few years ago when I moved into my new BK neighborhood. I had read the wonderful reviews for Little Lion but also found Jenny's IG where she posts the most amazing pictures of her clients hair transformations and knew I had to get an appointment with her. Since my first appointment, Jenny is now the only person I trust with my hair. She listens to what you are looking for, works with you to make sure you like the color as you are there and also always checks in after to see how you are liking the color and cut. She truly cares about her clients! Pictures show some of the colors I have done over the years. Shows how Jenny is always so spot on with listening to what I want as it is always changing :) Side note: Little Lion is a wonderful small business in Park Slope. They are doing a fabulous job making you feel safe during covid times. Thank you! read more

If you want perfect balayage tailored to your look and maintenance preferences, this salon will far exceed your expectations! I have been seeing Danielle for approx 2 years now. Besides her charming personality, I really appreciate that Danielle takes my personal maintenance schedule into account when deciding how high up the highlights should go and even the tone of my highlights so it grows out well and not get too brassy... I can sometimes go almost 5-6 months without seeing her & my hair still looks good. My most recent visit shows my balayage at its most glorious state of multi colored dimension. I always have full trust that my hair will not only look amazing, but that it's stays healthy in the process too! read more

Michel has done my color a few times now and she has absolutely nailed it both times! I asked for a cool ashy brown (my natural color is black) that we've evolved over the sessions and she just gets it...she knows how to do a melty, multi-dimensional color that grows out great with low maintenance. Going back to her to touch up my color before my wedding in a few months! Thank you Michel! read more

This is an update of my previous review. As I had mentioned previously I had a deep red wine hair for about 10 years and I was working with Jenny to move towards something more natural. Over the past 6 months we achieved really great results and I was really happy with the color. I am now so ecstatic that I had to update my review! Jenny recently started offering extension. I have fine hair and with all the color I could never achieve the length and thickness that I wanted. Once Jenny started doing extensions I know I had to try them. I'm so glad I did! I went from having great hair to swoon-worthy hair over night! If you are on the fence at all please head over to this salon at least for a consultation and they'll help you achieve your ultimate hair goals! read more

I can't say enough good things about this salon and Tania in particular! She is the BEST for natural, seamless looking color. I couldn't be happier with the color and cut from her. She also has the best recommendations for products that are suited for your hair type. A million percent recommend Tania!!! read more

Scott continues to slay. After my initial appointment a few months ago, my haircut and color grew out nicely. I wanted to go a little lighter this time since on my last visit the focus was gradually working out the home dye job I did (lesson learned). Didn't need a cut this time, but Scott gave me a treatment to keep my hair healthier between cuts. I'm so happy with the color and it looks very bouncy and healthy! Thanks again, Scott. read more

I've been seeing Sarah at little lion for a year now and she's wonderful. Prior to moving to nyc my biggest source of anxiety was "who's going to do my hair?!???". I spent how's pouring over Instagram and Yelp trying to find my person. I set up a meeting with Sarah and it was a perfect match. She's easy to talk to, has the magic touch with brunettes, and listens to what you are truly asking for (while also offering suggestions and advice). Every time I've seen her it's gotten better and better. It's a small little salon but it packs a big punch. If you are in need of a great colorist and hair wizard in Brooklyn, please go see Sarah!! read more

Let's support these gifted women by buying a gift certificate if you can during these tough times! I've been going to Jenny for over two years, and she has helped me through going back to my natural color, which includes grays! She is kind, thoughtful, and an incredible artist! We share fur ball stories, which always makes me laugh! read more

Oh Shari, you are such a saint and we are so lucky to have you!…
Ever since first meeting Jenny, I knew that she was an extremely talented and special person. Before my appointment at Little Lion, I had been searching everywhere for a hairstylist and colorist in New York that made me feel like magic after leaving the salon. I was never able to find someone, and I went as far as to fly home for all of my hair appointments out of fear of working with someone new (NYC hair is expensive y'all and I wasn't willing to take a chance on bad hair!). Let's just say I thank my lucky stars that I finally went to Little Lion. Jenny (and all the staff at LLS) is an absolute hair goddess and can do some amazing work!!! They all are so caring when it comes to technique- if you follow any of them on instagram, you will see that each stylist is consistently attending classes to better their (already beautifully talented!) craft. Jenny will also go through your hair goals with you prior, and she is completely honest with the maintenance required with each idea. For me, I knew that I wanted a natural looking balayage that would grow out naturally, rather than having obvious grow out. I've been seeing Jenny for about a year now, and she's delivered perfectly every time. The way she colors my hair allows me to only need an appointment quarterly, and honestly my hair could probably go longer with how well it grows out. When you come into the salon, you are immediately greeted by some of the kindest souls in this industry who truly want to get to know you. Once you leave the salon, you'll feel like you have made at least 4 new friends. I've included two photos below. The photo with the pink sweater is my hair shortly after an appointment with Jenny to show how beautiful her work is. I've also included a photo of me in the woods- this is several months after an appointment. It's amazing that several months after an appointment my hair color still looks fresh. If you want some magic in your life, make an appointment with Jenny (or any of the amazing women at Little Lion). I promise that you won't regret it. read more

Hi Shirley,…

I've been searching for years for a hairdresser who I can trust not only to trim my curls, but to give me a significant change that i will love! I asked a colleague of mine - who has super stylish and badass curls - where she goes and she referred me to Tania at little lion! So after over a year of trying to line up my schedule with Tania's availability, I finally got my appointment! She was an absolute pleasure to work with, taking the time to understand what I like, what I'm looking for, how i style my hair, and the amount of maintenance and effort I want to put. We decided to get some layers and do subtle honey highlights and I've honestly never left a salon happier! so glad I finally found this place! read more
