Neck injured by scissors
Emilie L.

Sadly I had to give them a 1 star even though I used to love this place and had been going there a few times a year. The bad experience happened yesterday when I got my haircut. The haircut was alright, I felt scissor touching my neck while the cut. When I went home I started to feel sting pain on the back of my neck,  there was some blood when I touch it. I took a photo and email them about this. Although they're refunding me for the cost of haircut, but they don't admit that I got those sharp scratches from the haircut. I'm really disappointed and also paranoid of infection. Trying to go to urgent care for checking if there's any possible infection today.  I'm not going back.

I had such a great experience in their Tokyo branch, The Oversea. So I visited this location when I was on a holiday trip to NY, and everything was good until the hair was done. The stylist in charge was Junko, and she is a very sweet person. I wanted to try very NY style and have some fun with colors. She suggested bleaching my hair first for a greater effect then coloring them with light and dark purple. They bleached my hair from somewhere excluding the root part, giving some kind of "ombre" effect, toned the bleached part with ash light purple and highlighted the middle with dark purple. The stylist started the work, but for the major part, "all" the assistants in the salon took their turns and worked on my hair here and there, making it a hot mess. The boundary between the root and bleached part came out unnatural and uneven, and the length of purple highlighted part did not match left and right. As the hair was done during the trip, and I had to leave the next day, I had no chance to complain and go get it fixed. I wasted 6 hours sitting there, and they charged me $320 for it. I've been doing my best to get the color removed and faded, but the ugly boundary still bothers me every second. I wouldn't recommend if you are considering some color job done.

My favorite salon, by far. It speaks to me in more ways than one. Exactly my taste and how I imagine my future home would look like (white interior). Was referred to this salon by a coworker and was super excited to get a trim and some layers. Made a phone reservation a couple days prior and they set me up with Jinko. Ample street parking outside and luckily got a spot right in front of the salon. I came a few minutes early but didn't have to wait long at all to get a shampoo and head massage by a lovely lady! They used Aesop hair products too which I adore! My stylist really knew what she was doing. And I couldn't have asked for a better end result. She cut, dried, and cut my hair again before styling it and adding some shine and scent. I felt amazing afterwards! The saddest part of all this is that I live in LA but luckily I do not need a haircut every month. Cant waittttt to come back forever!!

This was their "best advice for me" and that I should come back and get both together. I only needed a haircut and this was the only chance I got (I am a SAHM with 2 kids and minimal backup except this day) so I said I would consider it but I need a cut now. It was 6 months since my last. That must have just not been the right thing to say bc I was judged, insulted during the entire session and I got the worst haircut of my life. I can't even get it fixed because it is so much shorter than I wanted. There are huge "texture" discrepancies all over my hair, the most obvious being in the back near my neck. There's also a strand of hair far longer than the entire length of my bob cut. I don't even understand how this happened. I'm so traumatized. I would never recommend this place and will never ever come back. I really had 1 chance to get a cut as a treat to myself, since I really don't have extra time to spare. And now I have to live with this until it grows out, definitely more than 6 more months. If I could give -1000 stars, I would. Please do yourself a favor and find a salon that can do a nice cut for long AND SHORT hair. WITHOUT A PERM TO MAKE IT ALL STRAIGHT FIRST. The skill level here is just so sub par. I could have done it myself.

I haven't cut my hair in 6 months and I have really long straight natural hair so you can say it is a blank canvas. This is probably one of the worst haircut I have gotten in years compared to other places that are in different price ranges. Leaving the salon it looked good styled but when I went home to wash it and had more time to look without it curled I saw really choppy layers and the length is much shorter than i wanted. For a cut I paid $107-110 not including tips and expected a decent cut for that amount. Truly disappointing as holidays are coming up and I have been wearing a hat to cover up, cannot wait for this to grow out but will take months. Ara was really sweet and nice but I don't think the skills were there.

Super easy and convenient. My stylist was Senait and she was fabulous! I showed her pictures of my past haircuts I liked and she did a superb job recreating it. She was friendly and talkative without feeling like she had to talk to me the entire time. She did a fantastic job and I will absolutely go back to see her again. The whole appointment (wash, cut, dry and style) took about an hour and cost $95 (I have relatively long hair, I believe they quote a price range to account for length). The salon itself was busy and a bit loud. It is very bright (likely because they do hair and makeup) and felt more like a party rather than a relaxing place/spa. They have a ton of staff so I was taken back right away. When I went, both men and women were there for haircuts and someone was getting their makeup done. I would absolutely go back and go to Senait again.

Before starting, we both agreed that the length was good (she'd just trim split ends) and that she'd reduce the layers I already had. She ended up cutting a lot more than we agreed, and I have lots of layers (more than before, that feel a little choppy). This isn't what I asked for at all, and I'm especially unhappy because we agreed on what to do before, and I mentioned I have a family wedding coming up and I wanted to make sure my hair is what I wanted leading up to it.

We really enjoyed this activity while in NYC and we didn't wait long we got there early enough during the week day - waited maybe 30 mins only which flew! They are constantly busy no matter what time you come. You get a number, so I recommended to get your number and come back after an hour or so, there are plenty of little shops and restaurants, nearby and come back. They don't take appointments. As there are no public bathrooms in the area, they let you use yours and I was able to charge my phone while I waited. Once you're in, you get the BEST scalp massage and shoulder massage. I think I was massaged for at least a good 30 min, then you get your blowout, so expect to be pampered on for a good 45 min. The staff is nice, service is great , the wait is just super long but worth it!

I'll start by admitting I was a few minutes late. I immediately called to let them know and profusely apologized. My appointment was for 6 and I arrived at 6:03. The front desk staff was lovely and welcoming, and so was the woman who washed my hair. I've never left a negative review on Yelp, but I personally wouldn't go to Samantha again unless you know how to describe exactly what you want or need done in technical terms. From our first interaction, I wanted to say nevermind and leave. I provided pictures of my previous cuts, described my hair type and how I usually like to wear it, but she kept asking me whether I needed layers, angles, and debulking. I'm not sure as I'm not familiar with how to cut hair... It could have been an off day, or something personal could have come up. She paused to text and even look at instagram a few times - something could have been wrong, but I'd totally understand if she said something. She just seemed irritated. I really didn't like the cut and needed something tweaked for more body, but was too nervous to say anything or go back and have it fixed.

It was a Friday night appointment at 5:15PM - granted Lunar New Year is in 10 days but omg. They are generally very nice but I'm really unsure of how they prioritize people waiting and walkins and "appointments". That being said I hate getting my haircut because I have curly hair and I haven't found a good hair salon. I'll usually end up walking out with layers which I hate because it doesn't really work for curly hair - I don't need that volume so much up top. That was the case here, and I don't know if these layers will eventually grow out and out pace my split ends, which was the main reason for the visit. I really just don't want split ends lol. Jane was nice and the stylist that my friend recommended (she has perfect hair and it might just be natural so difficult to use as a gauge haha). She had people waiting already and again the appointment doesn't really matter to a point. I'm always just not sure if curly hair cuts well with stylists in Chinatown and she advised blowing drying my hair more and coming in for cuts more frequently because my ends were so thin. Isn't that just layered hair though It was really busy and bustling in there and I got in and out in about 30 mins (+45 min wait) which is fine by me. $57 total - $45 for wash and cut, $10 tip for cut and $2 tip for wash
