I booked a $250 wash, blowout, trim, and style with the owner, Dailey, expecting a premium experience. Unfortunately, it was one of the most disappointing salon visits I've had. I came in for a simple wash and trim, yet I left feeling as though my hair was drier and more brittle than when I arrived. The haircut was uneven, and I was surprised by the trimming technique, as my hair was not sectioned in the way I would have expected for a precise and balanced cut. Beyond the service itself, I found the atmosphere to be unwelcoming. From the moment I arrived, there was very little warmth or friendliness. I did not feel particularly comfortable in the space, and the interactions felt cold and impersonal. Rather than feeling valued as a client, I often felt self-conscious and out of place. I had ever desire to walk out before my consultations and wish I had listened to my gut instinct. It would have been better to lose the $125 deposit, than to sit and endure hair damage, peculiar personalities and discomfort. One experience that stood out to me occurred while I was checking out. Several staff members were gathered at the front desk discussing a customer who had just left the salon. The customer had just paid and was ahead of me in line. The conversation centered around the customer's dissatisfaction with her service and whether she should be allowed to return. As a first-time client, hearing that discussion was uncomfortable and left a negative impression. What disappointed me most was the lack of focus on actual hair care. In my experience, the salon appears to specialize more in color services and creating the appearance of healthy hair through gloss treatments rather than maintaining the health and integrity of the hair itself. During my appointment, I even had to request additional moisture products because my hair felt dry throughout the process. For $250, I expected exceptional service, attention to detail, and a welcoming environment. Instead, I left unhappy with the condition of my hair, disappointed with the cut, and uncomfortable with the overall experience. Ironically, despite my dissatisfaction, I still tipped both the stylist and shampoo assistant because I respect people's time and effort. Looking back, however, I do not feel that the experience justified either the price or the gratuity. If you're seeking color services, your experience may be different. However, based on my visit for a wash and trim, I cannot recommend this salon. The service, atmosphere, and results did not meet the expectations that come with a premium price point. I wish I had read all of these other yelp reviews before booking as a new client. Like the other clients, I'm sure I will get blocked and banned from coming back to the salon but that's perfectly okay because you will never see me again. New clients BEWARE. Book at your own risk!! H2 Salon has a lot to learn about customer service and professionalism. I recently booked an appointment only to have it canceled a few days later. When I tried to rebook online, the booking platform repeatedly kicked me out, so I called the salon multiple times with no answer. Oddly, when I called from a different number, someone answered immediately. After being placed on hold for several minutes, a manager informed me that I had been blocked from the salon because of complaints I made about my previous visits. The manager claimed the salon promotes a "respectful environment," but respect should extend to clients as well. During my last visit, my hair was tangled, which I acknowledged, but the stylist handled the situation in an extremely rude and unprofessional way. Instead of carefully working through my hair, she aggressively brushed through it from the root, pulled out a large amount of hair, and then showed me the hair she had ripped out while saying, "This isn't good." The entire interaction felt humiliating and unnecessarily harsh. A professional stylist would have politely suggested detangling beforehand or even declined the service without being demeaning. On a previous visit, another employee spent nearly my entire appointment loudly discussing personal drama with my stylist while sitting beside me. It completely ruined what should have been a relaxing experience, and there seemed to be no consideration for the client experience at all. Despite these issues, I returned because I did like the final results. However, instead of addressing concerns professionally, the salon chose to block me from their salon and booking platform for expressing honest feedback, respectfully. Reviews exist for customers to share their experiences, good or bad, and businesses should be willing to reflect on criticism rather than silence clients who speak up. Years ago, when Marq was there, this salon felt much more professional. Unfortunately, that standard seems to have declined. Thankfully, there are many talented salons nearby that value both quality work and respectful treatment of their clients. Whoever owns this salon needs to have a talk with their workers. There is one, " Jalena", who is very unprofessional, loud and rude. The first time I ever gave this shop a chance, I was given jalena because she was not busy. i asked for a color and a silk press. jalena started speaking loudly about how much percentage of gray I had in my hair. I did not come in this shop for an announcement or analysis of the percentage of gray I have. On the contrary, I have accepted my gray and after all, thats why I wanted the color. This woman made me feel embarrassed, but I remained quiet and asked for the style I wanted, the silk press. Jalena made it seem as if my hair wouldn't be able to get a silk press. Frankly, I think she just likes making people feel insecure or something. My stylist was Jahlena started off good, but instead of finishing my hair after blow drying me, she stopped my service and made me wait for an hour so she can wash and cut someone else. My mood obviously changed but I just remained quiet and allowed her to finish my hair. She asked me if I'm ok when I said yes, she kept pushing it and tried to make me uncomfortable. I just had to buy a wig after getting a haircut at H2 because I am so deeply disappointed by the results. I've been coming to this salon for years to see Lauren but sadly the most recent haircut I got there ruined my beautiful head of long, healthy hair. I walked in with mid-back length hair and the stylist just cut 6 inches off even though I only asked for layers and a trim. The layers aren't even there and I am really unhappy with the length and shape. I basically walked out with a long bob and I hate ir Ladies, please take my warning and do not let the stylist cut your hair BEFORE pressing it unless you want to lose additional inches of hair when they "clean it up after". After falling in love with a clients results on instagram, i decided to schedule my appointment. The place has a great vibe to it. Great music and calmly productive which i love to be apart of. Theres also a barber so if you were looking to get a cut, your grooming needs are met. I was looking to change the color of my hair but to a very specific tone. My hair is also newly locd so i wanted to make sure i see a colorist verses doing an at home box dye. I originally scheduled virgin single process but had to change it to full head highlights due to my request. The stylist which was the owner shared information about certain color chemistry and suggested a shampoo that will preserve the color. This was simply a color session, no styling was involved. All in all marvelous experience. I get complements often. Very happy with my service. Traffic can get a bit hectic around there depending on the time of day, so be mindful and plan with enough travel time. I ordered an uber and it took forever. I'm so glad that I FINALLY found a Black-owned salon that I really liked. I've been following H2 for a while on Instagram and never got around to booking an appointment until recently. If you're indecisive like me and unsure of who to book for your needs -- I recommend taking a look at their social and highlights. Geneva seemed like the best fit for me and I just needed a trim and my hair prepped for braids. I arrived about 20 mins early to my appointment and the receptionist offered me some water or tea and told me to just hang out for a bit before Geneva is ready for me. They require you to wash your hands your hands upon entering which I think is great bc cleanliness!! Geneva was such a great stylist and help! Even tho I was getting my hair prepped for braids and just wanted my ends trimmed, we talked about my hair and what It was lacking and she was v helpful in providing me with suggestions on dos and don'ts when washing and stying my curly hair. She even gave me some tips on what to avoid when going to get my hair braided which was also suuuper helpful. As I was waiting, MarQ came and introduced himself so professionally and kindly, and asked what I would like done with my hair . We spoke about my previous hairstyle which had been microlinks for majority of the year that has caused breakage and thinning of my hair . Kathy who washed my hair welcomed me to the salon as well, once she saw it was my first time here . She did a fantastic job washing my hair , detangling and giving conditioner recommendations. Now on to the styling, I give MarQ a 10/10 . He is AMAZING at what he does and works with precision!!! My hair cut is so SHARP . Not only is he amazing with restoring damaged hair, he is so down to earth, kind and he recommended products for my hair, how often I should deep condition , as well as trim. The attitude and respect wasn't there at all and I just couldn't pass that to explain what my needs were. Came in today to get a silk press and cut. I had extremely bad heat damage from a bad blowout a couple years ago that ruined basically all of my hair down. I've been working on growing it out because I didn't want to shave my head or do a big chop. I decided it was time for me to cut off the dead ends that were left after a couple years of trimming them myself while they were wet. I was pleasantly surprised by how clean and modern the salon was. Everyone was super professional and knowledgeable. I had an appointment with Shannon, and she communicated every step and made sure I was onboard with the cut. The press and cut was on the slightly pricier side if you're used to a $40-$60 blowout, but I think it's worth it for the quality service and haircare. I also just cannot risk getting my hair damaged by heat again after committing so much time to growing it out. I will be back for a follow up appt in a couple of months, but will stick to protective styles in between appointments. read more

I've been looking for a good natural hair salon for years and finally took the plunge to get a chop at H2 Salon I booked my appointment a couple of months in advance, I actually wasn't able to book on the website and had to call to get on the books just an FYI if you're struggling to find availability. They are also cash only so make sure you have that before coming because their atm has a $3 fee The salon itself is nice and well-maintained, everyone is friendly and the music is . The service is pretty good overall, I was there for about 4 hours total to get washed, deep conditioned, blow dryed, cut, wash n go (which required me to sit under the dryer again for a little bit and get my hair stretched out afterwards) My hair was long but also pretty damaged so I let the stylist (Lorraine cut off as much as needed to be), she gave me product recommendations (Aussie moist shampoo and conditioner which I stopped using to try other products but will definitely try again) and said she encourages her clients to not be product junkies. She also showed me her technique for doing my own wash n go's (I'm not great at them) by giving me a mirror while I was in the wash bowl to see what she was doing. I'm super late with this review, but I got my hair cut by Char back in January. I was in town for a short time, and was looking forward to my appointment which got cancelled the day before. Turns out a pipe had busted and the salon had extreme water damage. Given the reason, I was totally understanding. I appreciate that although it was late (the day before) they made many attempts to contact me. I also appreciate that once they were able to find a temporary space a few days later, they reached out to get me in ASAP. To me, all that showed professionalism/ customer care. That said, Char did a big chop for me which looked really cute both curled and natural. I wanted to mainly wear it natural, but wanted to play with a pin curl look. So she accommodated by cutting it to look good as a natural tapered cut, then curled it. I thought she was really pleasant and the other employees cordial, which is a good thing. This review is partially for H2's customer service/social media and partially for Marq whom I had the privilege of allowing to assist with my "big chop". The customer service and social media ran by the owner Dailey is extremely unprofessional hence the reason for 2 stars instead of 5. I followed H2 on social media as I was impressed with their work and wanted to return, previously I had booked an appointment online via Fresha.com in June. This month, I tried going back online to book again, and I received an error message saying they are no longer available for booking on Fresha. Given the power of social media and the digital world we live in, I decided to post a comment to their latest photo simply inquiring how to go about booking since their website was not working. A random person responded "try calling that's what people used to do" and to my surprise that's when the owner Dailey responded, "and that's what's hot on hot 97". I was taken back by this response especially since my question didn't warrant any sarcasm, I was just a happy customer looking to give this establishment repeat business. After responding to this absurd comment, Dailey decided it was in her best interest to delete to thread all together. I assume she had come to her professional senses at that point or perhaps someone on her team gave her sound advice as to how she should run her business via social media. Now to to good! Marq on the other hand was great. He was caring, didn't rush me, spoke to me with confidence and helped me determine a style that suited me. Had it not been for this poor customer service experience that I alluded to before my review would have surely been 5 stars. Professionalism will not be found here. H2 Salon looks nice, and a few elevated touches make it seem like this might be the professional hair salon you've been searching for. However, don't be fooled by their decor...at the end of the day, it's another hair salon that treats its black clients poorly. My alarm didn't go off, and I was running late for my 9 am appointment. I hopped in an Uber and called the studio a total of 22 times. When I was about 5 mins away, I got the receptionist. The receptionist told me that they were going to charge me a $40 late fee. She also explained that the stylist and her assistant had been at the studio since 9, but it is not their job to answer the phones... To be clear, there is ZERO access to the stylist prior to the appointment and the studio is the only way to contact them if there is an emergency or if life happens... but it's not their job to pick up the phone if no one else is there. It is easier I suppose to hope that the client doesn't show up and that you get paid the full fee without doing work (per their no-show policy)... but that seems so shortsighted. If this place was doing good business they would have prioritized building a long client relationship with a first-time customer and save the fees for more extreme cases. So, I arrived at the studio at 9:30, and the moment I walked in the receptionist was already geared to treat me like a hostile customer and that's how everything proceeded moving forward. I am direct and honest, but I am not an aggressive person. I expressed my dissatisfaction with the fee but I said I would still do my hair anyway because at this point I'd spent $30 on an Uber and I was about to be charged an additional $40 late fee, so I was determined to just stay there. A few minutes into being there, the receptionist felt the need to tell me that "If you're going to be difficult you can just leave now. Just being honest. " This was after I told her that I'd stay and that I'd pay the fee. There was no reason for her to say that. I wasn't yelling, I didn't have a hard tone, and if anything I was solemn. After talking to the stylist (Liyah) about my hairstyle, the stylist sent the assistant to wash my hair. I could hear the receptionist and Liyah loudly complaining about me from the receptionist area. Since there was no opportunity to talk to the stylist prior, I had questions about how I should do my hair, and I wanted to know if I could get a deep conditioner because I read that was best for a silk press. My questions were met with annoyance. I was told that since I arrived late they wouldn't be able to do the deep conditioning. I told Liyah that I was feeling a little nervous about how she'd do my hair. With all the tension in the salon, I was concerned that I'd spend a lot of money to get work done by a stylist who might not put her best effort forward. If this was a professional establishment with business savvy people this would have been a great opportunity for Liyah to say: "Hey, sorry about the shaky start but we're going to make you look amazing. Don't worry. " I am a very easy person to win over with kindness, and if the ladies in the studio didn't already take the position to treat me like a hostile from the moment I entered the studio, things could have turned out positive. Instead, what proceeded was them continuing to tell me that their fee was studio policy when I had already moved on from that point and was more concerned with the overreaction to everything I said or asked. They accused me of being "combative" for basically asking questions. Next thing I know I'm being told by Liyah that she cannot service me because she was the one who was now "uncomfortable. " I was shocked by this reaction. The receptionist who was rude the whole time was then in my face telling me that I needed to leave. This was very confusing because I heard everything they said, I was not fighting with them, and I was ready to pay the late fee. However the three of them (Liyah, assistant, and receptionist) were all in front of me acting like a playground battle was about to take place with 3 against 1. Every conflict doesn't have to turn into a fight. Black businesses should treat their black customers with utmost respect and professionalism because we work hard for our money too, and we want to feel good about how we spend it. Liyah's response to this was to boast about how popular the salon is. Popularity is not the same as professionalism. It is difficult to find salons even in this big city, and very few of them are online. Due to the lack of online competitors, it's easy for salons to treat clients however way they want and still get people who have limited options. If that's how your business wants to operate, it's up to you...but don't fool yourselves into thinking that you have good business practices. Still going hair to get my hair laid! Chile these lovely people know how to whip that butter. They are extremely professional and humble. I got a short hair cut October 2019 and finally got another cut August 2020. Their cuts really last (past the 4month marker) and work on natural curly textures. Amen for this establishment. COVID19: Their doors are open for business and only do CASH ONLY. They are practicing social distancing in the shop with clients: mask are worn by the clients and staff. Although some customers did take off their mask to shampoo or when they were in an isolated areas of the salon. They are operating at reduced capacity but have a full schedule. My first experience getting my hair professionally done as a 5-year naturalista and I chose H2 because it was highly recommended by a friend. More specifically, she recommended Marq because I was considering getting a tapered cut. I was nervous, but Marq's gentle energy and calm vibe automatically put me at ease. We spoke, like we had known each other for years. We talked about my hair and what I was interested in doing. I had only a general sense of what I wanted. I showed him a few photos of inspiration and he automatically knew what to do with me. I trusted him and it was easy to because he guided me through the process. So all the hype for what? The stylist Melissa was not good at cutting hair. She started off by sending me to get my hair washed. She saw the conditions and I feel that if she didn't know what to do she should've said it. No shame in admitting when you can't do something. I booked an appointment for a Wednesday morning to get my first silk press by a stylist I saw on Instagram. Pro: upon entering I immediately noticed how clean and modern the salon was. It was brightly lit and they had light rnb (honestly baby making music lol) playing. Since it's by appointment, there weren't many people in the salon so it was quiet but not awkward. Due to a miscommunication with an online booking, another stylist Lorraine was able to squeeze me into her schedule to do my silk press. She had the assistant Lauren wash and blow out my hair. I have to point out that I never had someone be so gentle when detangling my hair and I definitely told her that. Lorraine eventfully took over to flat iron and trim. I was really happy about how silky my hair come out. Also, she was really sweet the entire time as well as the other customers. Con: I was slightly annoyed about the miscommunication of me booking online an appt for the original stylist I saw on Instagram. Although it showed in their system that I did book an appointment, the stylist herself wasn't aware and did not show up. They also only take cash which is really inconvenient. They do have an atm machine within the salon but it didn't work when I tried to use it. So definitely bring cash with you. This isn't so much a con as it is more of a FYI. The prices are higher than what I'm used to paying when I get my hair done. For one, I used to go to Dominican salon where you pay $30 for a wash/set and they offer you snacks lol and two now that I'm natural, I usually do my own hair. However I don't feel like I was excessively charged but it did feel like I was getting guacamole at chipotle. Overall, I really liked this salon. From the receptionist trying to handle the problem, to the stylist fitting me into her schedule, this makes me want to come back. However, I'll be honest and say I am nervous about washing my hair after and seeing how much heat damage there might be so I will do an update. read more

I had an amazing experience at H2. Marq was timely, thoughtful and knowledgeable about what look might be best for me. He cut off all my hair at my request, and was so encouraging and supportive throughout the process. He's also a surgeon with scissors. The salon was clean and all the employees were kind. The wash, which was done by Marq's assistant, was fantastic. The style involved even more precise cutting and a trip back to the shampoo bowl where Marq talked me through how to take care of the style myself, and products he recommended for my hair. No pushy add on to the sale, just suggestions which I am absolutely going to take (purchased from Amazon). After a quick celebratory photo session, I was on my way. What a hidden gem H2 Salon is, the ambiance is nice, and relaxing. The staff was very polite and professional, and the products they use are exceptional! I recently made the choice to do a Big Chop and was looking for a salon. I was referred by a co-worker and I'm soo glad I decided to go here. After looking at reviews Mark came up several times so i made an appointment with him. Please note that this salon has a few rule... 1. Cash Only 2. $40 Charge for late appointments 3. No guest or Children As I entered I was greeted by the receptionist who was very nice. I came early so I waited and by my scheduled appointment time Mark had introduced himself and asked me questions on what I wanted . Nervous because I knew I was going to have to cut a lot he was so encouraging and really did an awesome job! I have 4a/b/c hair and he he worked his magic. I learned about H2 Salon Brooklyn scrolling through Instagram and I couldn't be any happier. I'm almost 2 years into wearing and caring for my natural hair and still need some help. I was able to get an appointment within 2 days via their booking website (which is great for me because I like booking last min appts lol) with Marq. Marq is a Godsend. He was very polite, professional and did an amazing consultation prior to starting my hair. Marq made me feel comfortable immediately with his knowledge of natural hair. I had an amazing shampoo/conditioning treatment with Marq's assistant Lauren. Very relaxing!!! And then the best part. My haircut! Marq did a fantastic job shaping my hair with scissors and his clippers. I was truly surprised at what he was able to do with my hair since I kinda did a self terrible job at trying to trim it myself (lol). After my trim Marq educated me on how to obtain the perfect wash and go as he applied product to my hair. After about 25 mins under the dryer my hair was completed and I was ecstatic. I've been going to H2 salon since 2017, after several of my favorite stylists from another salon left. I've only worked with Lorraine and Dailey. Both have taken fantastic care of my hair! I have 4c curls that require a lot of moisture. Unlike other salons, they treated my hair with care, and are always real about what I need to do get it to where I want it to be. I never feel like my experience is rushed or that I'm not being accommodated well. I've enjoyed the warm vibe from everyone at H2 as well. The real talk that happens here on a regular is certainly the benefit of going to a black owned salon with black stylists. No matter which state I'm living, I always find time to come back here and get my hair done because I trust them that much. I was referred to this salon by 2 different people. I was told they can actually DO natural hair. And both of the people who referred me have different textures of hair. So I was sold. I called and made an appointment. They even called me the day before to reconfirm. Which I appreciated. My previous stylist cared 0 about appointments lol. They even told me how much it would cost and that they only accepted cash. Now I do not know WHAT salon does that. Often times, they say "I don't know I have to see your hair first" Upon my arrival, I was about 10 minutes early. I was greeted by a friendly stylist. I was offered coffee, tea, water. The ambiance of the salon was beautiful. very relaxing. As soon as the stylist who would be doing my hair walked in, she sat me right in her chair. Char is awesome. We talked for about a good 15-20 minutes about what look I was going for. I will explain why I love her later. Having being our first time meeting, she took time to truly get to know the look I was going for. I am very knowledgeable about the type of hair I have and what my hair will and will not do. So she was very happy about that. Most times people come in wanting Rihanna hair, and they have much more coarse/kinky hair. No ma'am not me. Once we settled on a style, cut, etc. This literally took her about an hour from start to finish. I have never in the history of salons been in and out in a hour. Let me tell you about why I love Char. While finishing up, I mentioned to her that on my next appointment in June, so immediately said "wha'chu coming to see me for in June". I said to do my hair. She stated "my goal is to teach you how to care for your own hair and you only need to come and see me once every 3-4 months. Unless you want it cut lower, or to change the color, I don't expect to see you" I said to myself "Look at God' She wasn't interest in taking my 450 every 2 weeks but more concerned with me learning how to care for my own hair. THAT is a beautician. I paid, the exact price quoted. Which I think is on par for a wash, cut, and style. And left that salon feeling like a brand new woman. I came to work today, and EVERYONE loves it. But more importantly I love it. Its so versatile. I will always go see Char for as long as these tresses stay on my head.
