Since I'm new to New York, it's been interesting to decide where and who to trust to do my hair without causing any damage or breakage. I've been to Classic Beauty Studio only once, but I would 100% go back again. The vibes are great and so is the staff and the decor. It was so easy to make an appointment. I wanted to get a silk press and deep conditioner wash. I have a lot of hair too, so sometimes I'm sitting in the chair for a while. I made an appointment for a Friday evening and was offered tea and water to help make my appointment more comfortable. They offer many beauty services such as hair, braids lashes and I believe facials as well. I'll definitely be back. read more

I made demands from the time I got in the chair. How would the owner know this when she came in 2hrs later from when I got there? After all these ridiculous events, someone from the salon contacted me (probably under a false name) offering me a partial refund. This is after still maintaining lies about me bullying staff, rushing staff, being a "problem client"... deliberate red herrings. Anyone who has any intelligence knows that this is a logical fallacy. The owner's attempt to destroy my character is a deflection from personal responsibility and accountability that she has in this situation. She was responsible for ensuring that the unit met my specifications. She was responsible for ensuring the hair was what I asked for. She dropped the ball. She failed. My issue is that she refuses to own that. I would not recommend this salon to my worst enemy. I had an extremely disappointing experience at Classic Beauty studio. I came in expecting "mini twist (small parts and twist) but the outcome was far from what I paid for. To make matters worse, the customer service was horrible. The stylist seem so disconnected and seemed uninterested in ensuring I left happy. I genuinely tried to communicate what I wanted and silliness to pay for it. Handling my hair with care was not part of the process and than we I got a GOOD look at the product she as put on my SCALP I IMMEDIATELY became pissed! With ALL the high quality products WHY would a "classic salon" still be using JAM?!? For the prices they charge, I expected a much higher level of professionalism and quality. I desperately needed a sew in and with my regular stylist out of town I didn't know what to do. I gotta tell you..... from the Yelp reviews I wouldn't have booked an appointment here but a good friend of mine recommended this place and since I value the opinions of my friends I booked anyway. I booked with Jocelyn for a sew in with leave out. She did an amazing job with the install (although a little tight) and she cut my hair into a perfect bob. My appointment started okay but left a bad taste in my mouth after my service. I went in for a blow dry & trim which i was quoted $70, and then decide to do a silk press while in the chair with the stylist (no deep condition) and my total came up to $105, and trim an additional $25... After tip i had paid $143.20 for my services. Online the silk press is listed as $85 so she added an additional $20 to the service for my bra strap length hair.. (only the bottom layer of my hair is "long", i have layers) I like that this salon is aiming to give a quality/upscale experience to guest but i think they're missing the mark. The prices are extremely high, and I just don't think it's worth it. I can't remember my stylist's name but her and I did not speak at all. I brought my own shampoo and explained to her what was going on with my hair. I told i wanted a blow dry and trim but if she thinks i should do a silk press, let me know. She said she will make sure to fix it and for me not to worry. After the blow dry she didn't stop and ask if i wanted the silk press she just began doing it. Then she began curling my hair right after, again didn't ask me if I wanted my hair curled, bumped, bone straight.. nothing. It looked nice when I left the salon so at the time the only thing that really bothered me was the price. What determines long hair? How are you calculating an up charge on hair length? Once my curls dropped, i noticed the top layer of my hair was filled with a split ends, it's like it was completely untouched. When i brush it, it's snagging at the ends because they have not been cut. I went back in and showed the owner my split ends and she said that the stylist didn't trim the top and i could come back in and have it fixed.. but honestly i don't even want to go back. I just don't like feeling like I'm being ripped off or just another head to make money on. If you're going to charge these prices i think the stylist should be trying to cultivate a relationship with the client really get to know them and their hair. It feels like a walk in spot where you can get something quick done, but they charge the same prices as more established places in the area.. (H2 for example.) Sadly i won't be returning but I feel like this is a new business and they can fix these errors and hopefully become a great salon. If you do decide to go make all your style decisions upfront and make sure you ask the price up front so you're not shocked at the bill. read more

I came here for a weave takedown and reinstall with closure and I am very disappointed with the quality of my sew-in and the customer service I experienced. I first found out about this salon after an influencer shared her experience. She got braids & had nothing but positive things to say so I booked my appointment online for a full weave with weave takedown for 2pm the next day and was quoted $250. The online booking system didn't "confirm" my appointment and since I was scheduled for less than 24hrs away I called the salon and they told me to come at 3:45pm instead of 2pm, which I agreed to. I let them know I was taking out my weave, and reinstalling with the same hair and confirmed that a closure was included with a full sew-in and they said yes. The next day and I get to my appointment right on time and am greeted by a stylist who I think is the owner. She goes and talks to my stylist and comes back and asks me where I am coming from. I tell her Manhattan and she turns back to the stylist and signals "no no no" which to me implies that they were trying to figure out how far I traveled to either have me come back later or another day. The owner told me that they were behind and that my stylist would be with me shortly. When my stylist finally got to me it was well past 4pm and almost 5pm, mind you, my appointment was at 3:45pm. While my hair was being taken down, the owner came to me and said it would be an extra charge to wash the bundles in my head. I was shocked, because my whole life, weave takedown includes, takedown and washing and drying the bundles. If there was an extra fee for the wash then why didn't they add this to their service list or make it clear when I called to confirm the appointment? I agreed because at this point my hair was half taken down. In the middle of the takedown (and throughout my appointment), my stylist kept talking to her friends on her AirPods and kept repeatedly complaining about how she forgot she had a last client (aka me) and now she was going to be late to some party she was going to. She said this multiple times while doing my hair which I found very unprofessional and rude. After takedown, she washed my hair and bleached the knots of my closure at the same time. I really like the Design Essentials avocado shampoo and conditioner used. I have A LOT of hair and appreciated that she soaked every strand. She also used a detangling brush (similar to the Felicia Leatherwood brushes) and was gentle with detangling. This was the only positive. When we got back to the chair, she was still on the phone and still making comments about how she forgot about my a tired she was & that she was gonna be late to the party. She was gentle with blowdrying and braiding but absolutely insisted that I had to use glue for my closure even with a band. I have worn weave for years and NEVER used glue and my closures always look like its growing from my head. I should have told her to forget the closure and just keep some leave out but I went against my better judgment. By the time she got to styling my hair I knew I was gonna cry when I got home. I have Yummy hair extensions which are top tier when it comes to weave & closure quality and sis had me with STIFF & STICKY hair. She used so much mousse, spritz & holding spray that I looked like a helmet head, which was exacerbated by her bulky braiding pattern. She also used the wrong color foundation on the closure lace. My closure hairline is literally a horizontal line across my forehead making me look like Herman Munster from The Adams Family. I told her she could cut my bundles to give it body and layers and she said she didn't want to "chop it up". I get it that some people don't like to cut their bundles but I don't care and would rather have face-framing layers than a mop on my head. Anyways this whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth for the following reasons: 1) AFTER they took out my bundles they told me that I would have to pay extra to wash them. At this point it was almost 5pm and my hair was barely started. What the owner should have said was "normally we charge but since we started you over an hour late we will wash these on the house, sorry for the inconvenience". 2) I ended up being charged an extra $100 from what was originally quoted. After tip I paid $400 for the worst weave of my life. 3) Her braiding and stitching is atricious. The band that secures my closure is exposed from my ear down to my nape & my braids are exposed. The stitching is wide and sloppy. You're supposed to cover the braids and the band with the hair so now any gust of wind has me looking crazy. 4) She kept complaining about how she forgot about my appointment and how she was going to be late to her party. 5) She kept chasing her kids around the salon 6) She can't do a full weave without glue Do NOT come here for a weave. It's a "luxury" experience without luxury customer service or luxury skills. You have been warned read more

Three things about this salon: it's always empty for good reason, it's highly inconsistent from stylist to stylist, it's highly overpriced.

I came in for a single process color...didn't have an appt so i called in and asked. I spoke to the owner, she advised the person i was requesting could squeeze me in but has an appt in a couple hours. I told her that was fine as long as I can get a single process and silk press. I then sent photos and advised what I wanted. She agreed, called me back and said to come. I arrive, we quickly talk about the color i was looking to get. No one mentions they won't be able to fully cover my roots. Mind you, I've sent photos. After color application, right before stylist is about to wash me, she says, "you know you're roots aren't going to be covered right?" I tell her thats not what i want, as I've been to multiple stylists where in a single process they are able to lift color and go lighter by a couple shades. I went from a lighter golden brown to a cinnamon brown with red undertones. The stylist tells me she isn't able to lift and this would be a double process and she doesn't have the time to do it today. so i have no choice but to wash this color out and get a silk press. the actual color is great, but the fact that no one communicated in their single process color they can't go lighter was quite confusing. The owner said she doesn't take walk in color appts, which makes sense but i told her if she couldn't take me today i could always come in the next day...no favors were done for me. I still paid almost $200 with my roots looking crazy. Color should never be rushed and by them agreeing to the inspo photo and the appt, she agreed if wouldn't be rushed. But that was what it was, she rushed and didn't have to time fix it. She also kept saying single process you can't go lighter, i spoke to a couple hairstylist and did some google research...you forsure can..they just don't do it. which is fine if they had communicated this! The owner was nice and understanding of my frustration but said she was only able to take off $50 if I came back for a double process. I could have totally paid the extra but now in order to fix it they are asking i pay an extra 200.. as I'm not willing to pay a total of 400 for a something that would have costed 250 if they communicated properly. Sucks this didn't work out as I often get my hair Colored and needed a new salon due to relocation and never want to bash a black salon. read more

Tldr - luxury prices without a luxury experience Pre knotless braiding service: Ok I was looking forward to coming to a full service salon to get my braids done instead of the spot I usually go to that just does the braids. I was initially annoyed because there was no indication on the website or after booking that hair was not included with the service. They called me the day before (not even a full 24 hours) to "remind" me that hair wasn't included. It's listed nowhere and wasn't included in the confirmation or follow up emails. I also told the woman on the phone that my hair was about 3-4 inches long and her response was "well we need you to have some length for this style. Email us a photo of your hair and we'll let you know if we can do this style." So I emailed the photos and didn't hear back. Called them 4 hours later and she was surprised that I sent the photos and was expecting a response. The photos I sent were of my hair in 3 different stages (Bc natural hair). She was like "well which one is your hair now?" Gurl all of them. That call certified to me that the salon did not know how to handle natural hair. Post braiding service: Honestly it felt like prices were being made up on the spot. I don't understand having a booking site with prices but then saying these prices don't apply. I appreciate places that say "starting price x." Or medium waist length = x price (but I digress). By the time I got to the salon I was over the whole having to bring my own hair for a $400 service. The beauty supply store I went to didn't have 18" hair so I got 24" bc I've never been to a stylist who couldn't cut the hair. Low and behold they don't cut hair. So my $350 medium knotless went up to $420. At $420 I was expecting a top of the line experience but it was just ok. In total the service took a little over 5 hours. I arrived at 10 and left around 3:15. Longer than I was expect in general to be there but all good I built in time. Braids came out nicely and are holding up 2 weeks later. read more

I got "vixen crochet braids" with Aeon. I originally booked through Styleseat but once I was at the salon I was told the appointment was cancelled and that she didn't accept payment this way. I have to admit it left me feeling deceived because what proceeded to happen was a strange breakdown of pay the stylist on venmo and the salon separately. It left me feeling like I was being nickeled and dimed, especially when being told that cutting the layers of the crochet hair would be another add on cost cause it was a "luxury salon". I often book on styleseat because I like transparency with pricing and really wish the stylist had been upfront about this from the beginning. I have had many stylists operate out of a salon but book on Styleseat and have never had a issue with checking out on Styleseat. Now for the pros, the staff was very friendly and seemed willing to check in periodically to make sure you were well attended to. Aeon herself was very friendly, attentive and seems like a very talented stylist. The salon was clean and well kept. I wasn't worried about hygiene or getting an infection. The music and mood were chill. But I have to take off the stars for the pricing situation. Buyer beware. UPDATE: Taking out my crochet braids were a daunting task as I discovered the stylist tied some of the knots with my hair! Definitely would not recommend unless you want to leave with less hair then when you arrived. read more

After the initial review, I spoke with the owner and I was able to get back $230 from the $420 I spent that day, so I am still out $190 for the service and the $200 for the frontal unit that I had in for six days. I am glad that I was able to at least recover some of my loss; I added some stars because I was very happy with the sew in I had installed in June, I would definitely recommend here for that and I like the dark color I achieved when I rinsed my hair jet black a few weeks ago. She paid $187 for a person to shampoo her hair and make a side part. She had no curl definition and her hair was not trimmed properly. She came home with her hair looking exactly how it looked before she went there with the exception of the side part. I could have done a better job. The money is not the issue because I am aware of how expensive black/natural salons are, but the service was sub par and damn right shameful. Never and again!! read more

Being picky about my hair, I have only ever gotten my silk presses done at A Curl Can Dream which never leaves me disappointed but I wanted to branch out and try a local salon that caters to natural hair. The salon however, seems to be more concerned with the finished style than your overall hair health. I chose a silk press service which included a wash, deep condition, silk press and trim. Felt as though my hair was blow dried for about an hour and then flat ironed and styled for another hour. The amount of heat used was excessive to say the least. I have never felt or seen my hair look so limp and lifeless after a silk press. After wash day the heat damage was very evident. Never again. read more

I experienced being serviced by Classic on a few occasions. I was able to walk in without an appointment and be scene right away. The hair products are amazing. What won me over is I took my 7year old son there. He has a lot of 4c coils on his crown. Kadeisha recommended the stylist Joselyn to manage. Khalil didn't complain one time. She was really gentle from washing, conditioning and separating his hair with her fingers. She also clipped all the dead ends and 2 strand twist his mane. I really appreciate the service for both of our visits. This salon is clean and they also offer beverages (tea/water) and small snacks (chocolate). 2 Thumbs up in my book!!!!! read more

The owner and head stylist Khadijah was extremely professional and gave me a full walkthrough of the salon and the different services offered. I have been going to her ever since for all my beauty needs. She colored my natural hair, provided protective styles in a timely manner to keep my hair flourishing. I love this place! My first time going in and had quality service. The products used on my hair were natural and smelled so good. If you want a stylist that will take their time to get to know your hair then come to classic beauty studios! I got a simple updo jumbo braid and trim for a wedding which came out absolutely gorgeous. Friendly staff and a welcoming quiet atmosphere. Exceptional Customer service, true visionaries when matching the client's wants while ensuring the look fits the customer well. I wasn't 100 percent sure what color to choose(I had a few colors in mind--with pics), and they helped pick a color that matches my skin tone while being patient with me through the process. They offered me water, let me eat my food, and were gentle with my hair as anyone can be while combing MY hair(I'm tender-headed, so I really appreciated that they made an effort to do so with my thick hair ). I'll start by saying my hair came out good, however - my experience was not. I heard about this salon from a few people so I decided to try it. I specifically booked a stylist (who may be the owner) to do my hair, as I heard great things about her. When she came in, she told me she switched me off to a different stylist. I had no prior knowledge of this, so I shrugged it off because at this point - I just need my hair done. Since the new stylist was running a little behind, the original decided to wash me. Before washing she asked if I was doing the treatment too. When I said no - she explained that it'll help protect it since they're straightening my hair. Though I do understand, I don't know the products they use so I was more so trying to get a feel of the salon. I was also a little caught off guard because a silk press shouldn't mean immediate heat damage. She tried to convince me and I still passed and it seemed like things changed here. During the wash, water was splashed on me and then I was told that due to my hair thickness the price was increasing and would be $105 and "whatever me and the stylist decide for the trim". Again - I shrugged it. The process of blow drying, trim & flat iron with the new stylist was fine. I'd honestly probably go to her again - if she wasn't in this salon. Once done, I went to the front and my total cost ended up being $132 ... how did we get here? I still tipped of course, but was a little puzzled. I honestly was just ready to go at this point. Once I paid, I was asked if I wanted to set another appointment - and when I said no, you could tell the vibe was even more off. She just handed my card and it was done.
