I have literally been coming to Chrysalis all my life (Mariarae gave me my first haircut when I was 2) and I always love getting my hair done here. Mariarae is my usual stylist and she knows my hair so well. Whether I'm just getting a trim or putting in highlights or anything else, she always knows what to do and she is just amazing! I have had haircuts from other staff members as well and everyone is really great. I always go here for special occasions too. Carolann did my hair for middle school graduation and I loved it. I had my hair done for senior prom yesterday by Tony, who did an incredible job. He has never worked with my hair before (I have thick hair that is not easy to manage) but he was so patient and precise about how it looked. I didn't really know what kind of style I wanted so he helped me figure it out...I pretty much just trusted him to do whatever he thought would look best based on the style and neckline of my dress. He is so knowledgeable and overall just awesome :D I'm getting my hair done at Chrysalis for graduation in a few weeks and I know they will do a great job! Always love it here :) read more

I am disappointed by their customer service (or lack thereof) I bought a groupon to come in for a microdermabrasion about a month or so ago. I called for an appointment and they told me "We are having a problem. Too many people bought the groupon and now we are all booked until June. Call groupon and get your money back!" Now, this has happened to me before and the business has the right to honor the groupon, extend it and get you the first available appointment. It is unfortunate that they didn't even try to help me schedule an appointment, because while I was there I would have inquired about their hair coloring services, since I am looking for a new stylist for my mom. The idea of using Groupon is to try new places and hopefully you are satisfied, recommend the place to your friends and go back again for more products/services. In the end, Groupon gave me my money back, and I guess I'll go spend it someplace else now. I hope they are happy that their business is so great that they can afford to turn new customers away like that, but in the long run, your customer service is what will keep people coming back and recommending you to others. Shame on you for offering and selling deals that you cannot honor. read more

Today I went to Victoria as a new client, for a haircut and blowout. I want to start off by saying she made me feel so comfortable from the moment I walked in. Not only did she absolutely skill my haircut (i wanted it VERY blunt, which is not quite simple to do) but she styled it beautifully. She also showed me exactly what she planned to cut and how much before taking the scissor to my head. She took her time but I was still done in less than an hour, which is big for me because I hate spending hours at a salon. She just earned herself a client! read more

I have been going to this hair salon since I was a little girl and I love it here! I have never gotten a bad haircut and my color is always incredible! I usually get my hair done by Sam or Joanne. Sam is AWESOME at color. I couldn't imagine going anywhere else for my hair. They have been so good to me over the years. Thank God I had a gift certificate because I would never willingly go here on my own. You're in a house turned salon. I was upstairs in a small room and did not feel relaxed at any time. The facial itself wasn't bad, but the lady doing my facial kept going in and out of the room. Bright lights were everywhere. After she cleaned my face and closed my pores, she wiped me off with a cold, wet towel, which I found disgusting. I left with facial scrub still on my neck and tasted it in my mouth. She also had her own reasoning for my mild break out, which was far fetched. Again, glad it was free because if it wasn't it wouldn't be for me. read more

I found them on Groupon & was so excited to purchase the blowout package. I live close by & was looking for a new salon. I called to make an appointment & was rudely told by Francesca that "Groupons are for new stylists only to attract customers & no appointments were available for 4 days for a simple blowout and added that I should've read the fine print on the Groupon better." The only thing the Groupon states is new clients only. Interestingly, there were plenty of appointments open on the same day if I wanted to pay full price. I would've actually considered it if the customer service kills were up to par. read more

I came into Chrysalis as an introduction from groupon, I was very pleased with the quality of work and service of the stylists and employees. But one thing I will say is that the salon needs a major update to claim they are a high end salon. There is out dated colored furniture stations and the paint job looks old fashioned. I noticed many paint spots missing , stains all over the walls. It makes me question how up to date they are on techiques and trends if they dont show it through what the salon looks like. I bought a groupon for a microdermabrasion & I was pleased with my experience. As I typically do, I waited until the last minute to use my groupon and they were able to easily get me in before the expiration date. I had an early morning appointment and was greeted by the friendly staff when I arrived. They processed my groupon quickly and took me upstairs for my appointment. I am terrible with names, but I believe Linda took care of me. She was nice and professional. The microdermabrasion was quick but my skin felt great afterward. She walked me through what to expect, so I didn't panic when my skin felt like it was getting sucked off. As other reviewers have mentioned, the salon is in need of an update. I was a little nervous at first looking around the room, but the equipment seemed much more up to date than the salon itself. The whole thing just felt a little rushed though, and I was in & out in no time. While I appreciate things moving along and no wait time, it would've been nice to feel a little pampered. Maybe offered some water or coffee and a place to unwind after my treatment so I didn't have to go outside with my bright red splotchy face immediately. All in all, I was satisfied with my groupon purchase, but the salon did not gain a new, full-price paying customer from the experience. read more

I went there for color (touch-up) and cut. Other than the sign by the lawn, the place looked like a home, so I missed it the first time I drove by. Inside, the place was clean, well lit. pleasant, and all the staff was very nice. They'll offer you freshly brewed coffee which smell great. Mona worked with me to determined the best color that match my natural color, then the style and length that I'm looking for. The color was great, the bang was a little shorter than I wanted but I don't think my hair was cut out (lol) for bangs - too thick. The price was reasonable for the work. Went with a groupon a gift from my daughter. The facial was alright, nothing to write home about but fair. Lots of talking from the employee's though, while I was trying to relax in the quiet room and that was disturbing. The blow-dry was terrible. After, my hair was washed and I'm sitting in the hairdressers chair with a towel on my wet hair, I was told about an extra fee for long hair. Keep in mind he saw my hair prior to the shampoo. I agreed to pay and then insults began. One hairdresser said "O my your hair is long. Have you ever thought of a haircut?" Little they knew I just had a haircut a few weeks ago and like to keep it long and healthy. Next, they began talking about a past client with long hair who had her hair get stuck in a drain and had no choice but a haircut, from a different salon. An onlooker hairdresser, told the person blow drying my hair, he does not need to go to the gym today, his workout is doing my hair. I just kept quiet and said nothing. The final result was my hair looked no better than if I just woke up and brushed it. He did not try to add lift at the roots, which I do when I do my own hair. Nor did he try using the hair brush to style in any way. He did use a hairbrush, but had no clue how to style long hair. I could of done a far better job myself. What made the visit horrible was the insults thrown at me. Needless to say, I did give the woman who gave the facial a tip, but for the first time in my life I did not tip the hairdresser.. Having recently moved to SI and not wanting to run back into Brooklyn for my hair I tried 3 different salons....on my 3rd one at Chrysalis w Tony I hit the jackpot! The salon staff is very friendly and the place is spotless. The salon hours are very convenient (only closed Mondays) for working people which I love and getting an appointment that works for ME is never an issue. Tony is awesome and knows what he is doing. I have highlights (dark brown went to medium blonde) and Tony was honest from go. Discussed everything with me and didnt try to sell me on products or treatments I didnt need. This was the second time Ive had highlights. The first time was years ago at a very well known salon in Bay Ridge and let me tell you after the highlights my hair was destroyed! It was like dry straw! It took me almost a year to get it healthy again. With Tony, after two processes my hair is super healthy! And strong. He cuts exactly the way I want and I couldnt be happier. Purchased a groupon for 3 blow-out services. To be honest, this was my first experience getting a blowout, so I do not have any comparisons to offer. As far as the service went, all staff were very kind, pleasant and welcoming. I got offered refreshments about a dozen times, and wait time was minimal.
