I got my hair cut and colored at Zoe for about five years and I would definitely recommend it. Several times when I was on the subway or on the street, random strangers would start talking to me about my hair, asking where I got my highlights (which were three-toned - dark blonde, light blonde, light brown), so that definitely says something. Hair is done upstairs and manis/pedis are down (though I've never had one there). Since this is Staten Island, I'm pretty sure that most of the staff is well-versed in all "up-do" desires for Sweet 16's, proms and weddings, so that's also something to consider ;). Zoe also doesn't rush you, and if you listen to the staff conversations, you'll find out where to buy the best sandwich in the neighborhood (they order lunch a lot) or where local Island/Jersey peeps are flocking for a good dinner. read more

I cannot express how ecstatically happy I am that I found this place on yelp.... I was so fed up with my hair & ending up with the same disappointment in a haircut for the past few years (cutting it too short, then spending 6 months growing it back out to a length I like, then needing a hair cut desperately) that I was tempted to go to that school salon on new dorp lane just because no matter how bad they'd have messed it up, it would've been cheap & manageable into a ponytail at least. Well Thank whatever higher power that Literally last minute I thought to myself - let me call that place I have bookmarked & see if they have anything open for today.... & they did, I was seen not even an hour later. I have more than a hunch I wouldn't be having a good day had I gone with my alternate plan. So, Walking into the salon, it's GORGEOUS! The decor is seriously so tasteful. Not tacky & over glitzy, but definitely glam, but tasteful with earthy relaxing tones & textures. Second thing I notice - beautiful hair.... Not one person (customer nor employee) has bad hair - that's a great sign! I immediately felt the anxiety I had going to get my hair cut in a new place, melt away. Whew! I had an appointment with Lisa - she was so pleasant, polite, & seemed effortlessly confident with my hair. Also a good sign, most people panic when they see thick, naturally wavy hair... That was also waist length. I didn't even wash it that day, straighten it, I'm lucky I brushed it I've been so sick of my hair. I sat down, took the clip out & let down my mess of hair, she looked at it, we discussed what I wanted, showed a couple photos off Pinterest, & went for my shampoo. She didn't even have any hesitation about the photos I showed her, o was shocked & relived at the same time. Yay, this is good! The shampoo was wonderful, not too hot or cold, no pulling or clunking my head in the sink scrubbing or soap or water on my face. 2 thumbs up for that! Not always a relaxing experience, this was good! No complaints. Back to the chair, Lisa combed through my hair & started her magic. As soon as she started cutting, I could see that it was exactly what I wanted, she was so graceful with my massive amount of long hair & didn't seem to struggle with it at all. My hair looked & felt a ton better before she even started blow drying, so much lighter! Once she started drying, I was impressed - most people wind up with a lot of frizz when starting to dry my hair, it was an amazing blow out - it looks sleek & shiny as if I flat ironed it, curled & voluminous as if I used hot rollers & curled it to perfection...... With just a blow dryer & 1 round brush. I'd totally come back just for a blow out even! So pleased with my hair, I didn't lose much length, as I wanted, but added a ton of layers & my hair is so gorgeous & bouncy & perfect. This hair cut seriously made my entire year so far - no joke! I feel like a whole new person finally after being a first time mom & slacking on my appearance for a year (maybe 2?). My hair looks amazing. I wish I took a before & after photo because it's amazing that 'This' even came from what I had. I went from looking like the cowardly lion to a Victoria's Secret model (hair wise, lol). I went out to lunch with my husband & son after & had 2 compliments at lunch! Super awesome - I can't even stop touching my hair, it's so light & silky. I love it. Lisa is a terrible hairstylist. The first time she cut my hair, she convinced me against my better judgment to get layers. All-in-all it seemed like a nice haircut. I made another appointment a month later and it was a big mistake. She rushed my haircut and blowout because she was focused on her own color treatment. She left the layers all choppy, uneven and the angles in front are so short they can almost pass for botched sidebangs. The cut was $60 and now I need a new stylist to fix her mistakes and damaged hair. I will NEVER let her cut my hair again!!!!!!! If you want to color or cut your own hair as a stylist, do it on your own time not on my dime!!! I am new to the area and was trying to find a place to get my hair trimmed. I have a pixie haircut and was really worried about finding the right place that would know what they were doing. I mean let's be honest its not like there is a lot of people in Staten Island walking around with a pixie haircut. I read reviews on Zoe Salon and figured let's give this place a try. I called them and made sure to state that I had the pixie haircut. Immediately they booked me with Claudia for the next day. I walked into the salon and was just impressed with the set-up. Its such a cute place. I knew at this point I chose the right place. Claudia sat me down before getting my hair washed. I brought pictures for her to see what I wanted for my hair. She took a look at the pictures and talked me through on what she would be doing and what I thought. After getting my hair washed she didn't have to look at the pictures again and just started cutting away. I had full confidence in her cause I could tell she knew what she was doing. She likes to put her own twist into creating the perfect shades. I have been red, blonde, and brown and my hair is still very healthy too! Everyone is a sweetheart and very welcoming in the salon. It's a really great little place. The decor, the feel, the staff all great! The haircuts are better than most other Staten Island salons. I've been on the Island for 35 years and I can tell you, this Island has the worst hairdressers. There is no Bumble & Bumble equivalent here. You'll never find it. But Zoe is a nice alternative to the Manhattan salons. And the 3 out of 4 stars is due to the price. Prices are high. If the haircuts were better than I'd say they were worth it. read more

I went there a few months ago. After having read all these nice reviews I made an appointment. The place itself is very nice, but the receptionist wasn't friendly at all. The stylist, named Gaby, was pretentious and unprofessional. I needed a simple haircut. I have long thick hair so it needed to be cut straight. Gaby did not do any sectioning on my hair, she kept asking if i wanted layers, but I refused. so she just cut it all in a straight line, pressing my hair with her palm to my back hmm... Gaby did a very quick and sloppy job. The worst haircut I've ever had, it was very disappointing!! read more

I knew my hair was very bad totally !! The salon i use to go really did a bad job just couldn't go back.. So i went to Zoe .. Claudia felt so bad how i looked and she took me right away!! Lisa was phenomenal. She has years of experience with great detail on cuts and color My hair is no longer droopy and dull. Lisa magically transformed my hair and brought it back to life. With many bright highlights I was able to get the color I wanted and then a haircut with a full head of long layers that were bouncy and felt wonderful. I definitely found my new place without having to drive to Brooklyn. I was a bit nervous about changing salons and stylists after 10 years but I lucked out!!! Had to update based on my color. Not good. :( I went back to Lisa for a color after consulting with her at my cut appointment. She said baliage (sp?) was the best technique for what I wanted (I brought in a picture). I agreed even though it was more expensive than highlights. When she was done, I couldn't see any difference from before. My hair looked exactly the same. I called the next day and told them I wasn't happy with my color. They were glad to book a Redo for no additional charge and I came in on Sunday. Lisa was very nice about the whole thing. I told her I really wanted full highlights (I brought in the picture I had originally brought in and said I wanted what was shown). She used foil this time and did a glaze after. She didn't use any colors, but instead just used a lightener. At first I thought it looked good and I left happy, but once I made it to my car and took a closer look I realized it was not well done. The highlights look like stripes in my hair, really chunky and aggressive. I've been getting my hair highlighted for years and I'm pretty sure this look was caused by how she sectioned the hair (taking large pieces instead of very fine sections). I really hate it. I don't feel comfortable calling to have her fix it again, though. I'm hoping I can get it covered. I feel pretty embarrassed walking around with it how it is. Two stars because I still like my haircut and Lisa is very nice, but I wouldn't get my color done there. Disappointed. read more

Having my hair done ombré/balayage a few months ago by a friend left my hair dry, broken and just not pretty. I went last minute to this salon (for the first time) with the intention of having my fried hair chopped off just so I didn't have to look at my crunchy ends anymore. Lisa talked me out it (because she knew that's not what I really wanted) and assured me she could bring it back to life. And that's what she did.
