They were all so nice at M2 and I will definitely be going back in the future. I am so grateful they fixed my hair and left me feeling happier. They even made sure I had water and asked if I was hungry and needed a snack because I was sitting in the chair for so long while they did everything they could to fix it. My previous hairdresser always got the outside layer longer than the inside to cover my curl hairs. However, most ordinary hairdresser only know the opposite because it works better for soft and thin hairs. The owner belongs to the latter ones. He didn't know how to construct structures through layers, neither could he make what I want. All he could do is cutting. All three stars go to the lady who washed my hair. She gave me a very good massage.

I get my hair washed everything is fine. I get in the chair and say that I want long layers. Well my fellow yelpers I did not get long layers. What I received was 2 layers, one that was shoulder length and one that was 3 inches below my shoulders. No blending nothing. And on top of it the girl was going back and forth cutting my hair and doing another girls color. Maybe she was rushing me and wasn't paying attention? Maybe she is an awful hairstylist? Maybe she needs glasses? I don't know. What I do know is that I will never go back, and will warn anyone who thinks about making a visit to urban bay salon. I have gotten a better haircut and the Paul Mitchell school on new Dorp lane! Below I have attached pictures, before I got the cut from Masha, and after. BEWARE. I tried out this salon and asked for Victoria because she seemed to get the majority of wonderful reviews. I am SO glad I did! She consulted with me, listened to me, offered me feedback and mixed 3 different colors to achieve the look I wanted AND actually layered and framed my face which no other stylist seemed to have been able to do. I'm so thoroughly happy!! Beyond the amazing work from Victoria, the staff were so sweet and accommodating. They offered me a hot towel upon arrival and a beverage of my choice. I decided to try G's because of its proximity to my job and because it's an Aveda concept salon. I called and made an appointment for the same day. Because they gave me this spot so easily, I assumed they were 'squeezing me in' and I'd have to wait awhile. When I arrived at the salon, I was checked in by a friendly receptionist who asked me to have a seat in the waiting area at the rear of the salon. I was only waiting for maybe 10 minutes or so when I was greeted by my stylist. My stylist, named Summer, seemed genuinely thrilled to be doing my hair. She gushed about how pretty my hair was, and how she has natural hair too. I knew then that this was going to be a wonderful experience. Summer asked me what services I wanted and how I wanted my hair styled. We chatted a good bit while she styled my hair, because she's so bright and bubbly. She gave me advice and politely let me know I'd need a trim soon (no bullying zone). She followed all my wishes to a 'T' (no hot combs on my head, no way, no how). And my hair turned out silky straight and absolutely gorgeous! She even offered to pin curl my hair before I left the salon to maintain my style. Unfortunately, you have to bring your own pins if you want this perk. Oh yeah, I had to subtract a star because I feel $95 (plus tip! But Summer earned that tip!) is a bit steep for a press n' curl. I don't feel any press n' curl is worth that much, however, I will definitely return to G's to be styled by Summer. I may even let her trim my hair next time. I'd also recommend her to any of my natural girls who like to rock it straight from time to time.

They never trimmed more than I asked and my hair always looked great after a blow out. $65 for a blow out is just my speed. My stylists always occupied the last chair in the salon which I think may have something to do with the pricing. Not sure. I always hated the raggedy waiting area couches and wondered why they never made an attempt to make that look better. Reception leaves a lot to be desired. One time I was charged twice for a visit. The charge was done 2 weeks after my initial service so that was very suspect. But when I brought it to their attention they took care of it and I just vowed to use cash going forward. I'm due for a trim now and I called to make an appointment. The man who answered said that Joel didn't work there anymore. I asked if there was someone who has taken his place. He said no and that was it. No attempt to try to make an appointment for me or place me with another stylist.

After a google search I found the Tortoise and the Hair. Convenient to me because it is less that 2 min from my home. Such nice to people! Suzy was excellent. I showed her my picture of the hair cut I wanted and she ran her fingers through my hair looked for where my natural part was and went to work. Friendly conversation while I watched her work through mirror. Great job and after 10 years in Staten Island finally someone I can go back too!
