After recently moving, I was worried that I wouldn't be able to find a hair stylist that would match my needs and be someone I could trust. I'm very cautious when it comes to trying new salons due to past terrible experiences but after seeing other's reviews, I had to come to Salon de Larue and see the hype! I requested an appointment online and not too long after, Luba got back to me and we were able to discuss what I wanted to have done. I previously had red hair before and haven't been able to get it touched up in the past 3 months but I didn't have to worry at all because Luba did such an amazing job with reviving my vibrant red hair! She is very knowledgeable, talented and kind. The other workers are also great and overall, the salon is kept clean and organized. I definitely recommend coming here if you are looking for a place to get your hair done! read more

I absolutely love coming to Salon De Larue. Lazar and Almira are both wonderful and I always like a brighter version of myself with a new haircut and color. read more

This business is not transparent. Before coming in I was assured multiple times that they were going to use Lassio Mocha, but instead they started to use some unknown product that came from the back in a gel form instead of the normal spray. They didn't even bother to consult or inform me of this change. After they washed my hair they brushed it incredibly rough, like they were trying to cause split ends, and subsequently asked if I wanted a haircut. I ended up trusting my gut and leaving without having my hair done. They respectfully stopped the process and did not charge me. I was really alarmed to learn that they were uninformed about the fact that formaldehyde is naturally produced when keratin is heated, and they told a woman it was safe for her child to breathe in. Anyone in the room should have a mask on and no kids should be present. It was very confusing too because they operate under two business names. They also speak Russian half the time and take your coat to a back room, which I'm not a fan of. I like my things where I can see them. read more

I am disabled, and I struggle to use my arms. As a result, I cannot use a straightener or put my hair up, and I needed a solution so I came here for keratin straightening treatment to make my hair more manageable. Prior to treatment, I asked multiple times if I would need to use a straightener, because otherwise, I would not get the treatment, and I was assured more than once that I would not. I was even shown another customer with stick straight hair and told my hair would look like that. I followed the rules of waiting to wash my hair and using the right shampoo, but after a week, as you can see in the photo, my hair is not straight. And this was not a cheap treatment. I paid $600. The salon has acknowledged that my hair is not straight, but is refusing to refund my treatment. I do not recommend this salon. read more

My old stylist is no longer here so I was looking for a new stylist. My friends gave me several recommendations but after reading reviews and checking out services, I decided to try Salon De Larue. Luba is my stylist and really fantastic-whether you are doing the same old of trying something new (I'm both of these!), she's really wonderful as usual everyone in the salon (best head massage/shampoo ever!). Prices are reasonable and they are good about getting you in. Loving my new color-blue and red!- and am excited to try a new cut. Highly recommend! read more

Almira and Lazar worked wonders. First time I'd ever been to a salon and I really only had a rough idea of what I wanted - but Almira sorted out the exact color and Lazar the perfect cut. Couldn't ask for a better result! read more

Salon De Larue - So nice!! - Hair Salons Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

After 25 years with my amazing hairdresser in Atlanta, I was afraid moving to Brooklyn would be the end of my perfect haircut. Even when I lived a few years in Miami I would slip back to Atlanta for my hair. So when I read reviews here about how great Luba is, I decided to try. If it was bad, I told myself I could always head to the airport, right? Planes do fly south. But Luba turned out to be AWESOME ! She listened to what I wanted and cut my hair without rushing. My long layers are bouncy, and I felt like "me" when I left. Thank you, Luba !! I'll be back ! No plane ticket needed! read more

I've been going to Almira for about a year now and she has done absolute wonders for my hair!! I feel like it's really hard to find a stylist that will treat your hair right while maintaining the platinum/silver color so vibrant and I'm so glad that I struck a gold mine with her. I would definitely recommend going to her for any of your styling needs. She is super lovely and genuinely cares for the health and look of your hair! read more

I came in on Sunday afternoon. Booking was super easy and Almira was great. She did my color, cut and blow dry. I love that I didn't have to see different people for all 3 services. They young lady (I didn't get her name) who washed my hair was great and that head massage - I could take her home :)) read more

I came here looking for some help dying my extensions that I just bought so they could match my hair. The two salons I went to before here said they could not do it so I was upset. Almira told me of course she could do it and had the extensions done the next day for me. She gave me a trim and then styled my hair and toned the blonde in my hair so it would match my extensions and look natural! I'm so happy with the cut! My hair is so smooth and healthy now and my extensions match perfectly! After a nightmare of a day before getting to this salon, I am so relieved and happy that Almira took care of me! read more

I have been twice at the salon and every time Luba did amazing job! The haircut was awesome but the job she did with the blond highlights was great! Because of Covid i haven't done my highlights since a year, so i knew it's gonna be challenging but Luba took her time and did amazing job! I'm very pleased with the result and will be def back in couple of months! read more

Tried this salon after reading other reviews and I'm so glad I did. Luba was great! I have fine but curly hair and I can never seem to find a cut that suits my face and that I can actually do myself, once I leave the salon. Luba figured it out. I'm so happy with how my hair is now, I will definitely be back! read more

It's so hard to find a good colorist who can do a classy blonde. These days, living in NY, we have so many options that it becomes incredibly overwhelming. Luba is not good, she's GREAT! She really listened to me, what I was looking for, and then she delivered exactly what I wanted. She's patient, detail oriented and very skilled. read more

After a year and a half of attempting to color my hair at home during Covid, I booked an appointment with Luba to transform my 15 shades of drugstore red into one, significantly less unflattering color. So far, Luba has absolutely nailed both shades that I've asked her to try, and I don't think I can ever go back to box dye. As a person who hasn't maintained a consistent hair color since middle school, I can confidently say that I will be keeping the perfect shade of orangey red that Luba most recently mixed up for me. Additionally, the salon is cute, very well maintained, and Luba is a pleasure to chat with. read more

After over a year of not coloring my hair I went here at the end of March and I'm thrilled with my new highlights. It blends in perfectly and I've gotten hundreds of compliments. The salon is immaculate and the owners make you feel like you're at home. I hadn't been there in a long time and I'm THRILLED to be back! Go there and get ready for the summer we've been waiting over a year for! read more

I was feeling unhappy with my hair color and I thought I would try a new (to me) salon. I made an appointment with Luba at Salon de Larue purely based on the reviews. I am thrilled that I did. Luba suggested I stop in prior to my appointment and took lots of time to figure out exactly what I wanted. I left the salon after my appointment very happy with my color -- Luba gave me exactly what I wanted. I will now be a regular at the salon. In addition to being a talented colorist, Luba works very efficiently, and the salon is very well run. read more

I've been coming to this salon for years and have always walked away feeling like a rockstar. Almira is an angel and always does an amazing job. The prices are also extremely reasonable (especially for Park Slope) and everyone at the salon is super friendly. Highly highly recommend! read more

I cannot believe it's been almost 10 years that I've been coming to this wonderful salon! Luba's work is outstanding! She is very talented and I always walk out feeling like I'm on top of the world. Everyone who works there is friendly and kind. It's a very comfortable atmosphere. I go in for cut and color appropriately every six weeks. I went in today for my usual appointment and another customer told me that I looked like I didn't even need a haircut! That's how beautifully my hair style grew in! I give this business the highest praise and I encourage anyone to give Salon De Larue a try. read more

I had a great experience at this salon. I had Luba as my stylist and she was very lovely, and did a wonderful job with my haircut. The washing process was also very thorough and pleasant, and everyone here was extremely kind. She gave me some good advise re: hair health, and followed up with me to see if I had any questions or feedback. Would definitely recommend! read more

I got my baylage done by Luba twice and she is AMAZING. It's difficult to dye my hair without making it brassy and I have tried many salons, but Luba does my hair perfectly. I'm so happy to have found Salon De Larie & Luba and will continue this service. This is the place to go for highlights/baylage. read more

I moved to Park Slope at the beginning of the summer, saying goodbye to my nice, reliable colorist/stylist at an Aveda salon. What's a fake blonde to do? I decided to take my chances with whatever was close and looked nice, and was happily surprised. Bennis, a beauty of a Moroccan woman does a FINE blonde--partial highlights and a bouncy, healthy long-layered cut. I wouldn't necessarily have Yelped about this salon, or even lovely Bennis, except that the prices are fantastic (for New York). I pay almost half of what I paid a senior stylist at Aveda, and I'm just as happy, maybe more. The vibe of the place is a little funny, but not unfriendly. And for the guys ('cause God bless you if you're a guy who checks Yelp before going to get your hair cut), my husband gets good cuts from the owner (forgot his name)... read more

I moved out of NY for a couple of years and was devastated when I came back to find that Christine had left her old salon, without a trace. Miraculously I tracked her down at Salon De Larue, a place far from my apartment and honestly, somewhere I'd probably never check out. I've spent my entire adulthood looking for a stylist who can cut my fine hair so that it's full and "messy" looking, like I want - Christine is the only one who can do it. The first time I went to her was just for a bang trim but I got such a great vibe I decided to cut it from shoulder-blade length to a bob. I was thrilled with the cut and I've never gone back to long hair! Every cut I get from her is better than the next. She also does my single process, a few shades darker as close to black without being black. The color is always rich and stays longer than anyone else's treatment. I will follow Christine to the ends of the earth! If you have fine hair and need a style, she's the best. read more

I came in on a Friday afternoon with about a 10 minute wait. The salon staff is really friendly and helpful! In terms of the service I got, threading, I felt that it was really actually below average. I've been getting my eyebrows threaded for years and have always trusted the technicians. I took a quick peak in the mirror and everything looked great. However, when I got home I noticed that while the shape looked good my eyebrows actually weren't cleaned up very well and had to actually tweeze them myself after paying someone to do it for me which really bothered me. Overall, I would go back to try other services - it seems like they're good for hair but not threading. read more

I moved to Park Slope this spring and sadly left my stylist of almost 15 years. Recently I had a party to attend and my hair was a disaster so I came in to Salon LaRue because it is around the corner from me. The stylist, Almira, did a nice job of cutting and styling my hair. She had done a color on the person before me that was really great so when I needed a color, I made an appointment with her. She did a great job on my hair. We also discussed adding highlights but honestly the color is so lovely that I don't think they are necessary. I was initially very unhappy with the salon itself because there was a Yelp discount that said valid for each check- in and the receptionist refused to honor it me because I had been there before, even though I hadn't used the coupon. She would not budge even though the coupon said good for every check-in. However, a short time later, I got a call from the manager, Luba, who was very apologetic. She explained the coupon had an error on it but still should have been honored and asked me to come back so she could refund the difference to me. She also immediately changed the typo on the coupon. She was so very warm and kind. Despite my initial unhappiness, I will certainly go back to Salon LaRue for my next cut and color. I got a great cut and color and they clearly care about doing the right thing for the customer. So why not 5 stars? They have a policy of charging an extra 10% for credit card payments, which I don't care for. In the future, I'll have to trek to the bank or pay more for my hairdo. read more

Whether you go for a leg wax or a brow wax, Luba is on hand to make your experience worthwhile. She knows how to make someone comfortable immediately (ok, she offered me wine... easy.) I found both instances of waxing relatively painless (c'mon it's still hair removal) and I found with the leg wax, that I was pretty hair-free for 3 weeks and running (which for me is a major achievement!) She's also very easy to talk to and very sweet. A win-win in my book! read more

I'm a guy that comes here for a haircut. This place makes me comfortable - whether I'm walking in asking for a short cut or trying to let the chia-pet on my head grow out. Never have clippers been the primary tool used, so I'm always happy. Also, every time I need a haircut, they fit me in conveniently and everything goes perfectly. Highly recommended. read more

This place is a little gem tucked into the South Slope. I went here for a haircut with Luba, who is nothing short of WONDERFUL. Luba is a lovely person and she is also a super talented hair stylist who is a fanatic when it comes to detail. She is a perfectionist, and it shows. Her cut was beautiful and when I asked for a slight style tweak to make it easier for me to manage day to day, Luba understood immediately and adjusted it perfectly. As a colorist she is also incredible, the unique shade she gave me is gorgeous. I absolutely love it and would not have known how to ask for it. Luba created a custom color for me that is stunning, totally perfect for my skin tone. Highly recommend Luba, she is amazing! read more

I have a stylist I've been going to for years, but I was getting ready for vacation and quickly needed some balayage in the front to brighten things up. The best cut and color I have had in YEARS! I came in for the first time today and tried to explain to Almira, my stylist, what I wanted. I do not explain myself well and she somehow knew exactly what I wanted with my balayage. I also get very nervous for people cut my hair wet because it is very curly and short- but she did a perfect cut as well! This place is also reasonably priced and the entire staff was so kind, not to mention I felt incredibly safe in there as well. Thank you so much! read more

I went for the first time this past weekend and was very impressed. Luba was my stylist and she was very strong and professional. They gave me the hair straightening treament (keratin) and it was well worth the money. I don't think any other salon in Brooklyn has it right now and I highly recommend if you have problem/frizzy hair like I do. The staff was curteous and knowledgeable. They even bought me an ice coffee from next door! read more

Bennis was my hair stylist, she was friendly and kind and took her time with me, answering all my questions and giving me an option for what I wanted my hair to look like. They had a separate room to use for people who don't wish to be seen by everyone. I decided to get my eyebrows threaded too and that turned out great too. My hair cut was fantastic. I booked an appointment online, they called me back within a couple of hours and I was given a time the next day. The threading is pricey. I'm considering going back for highlights, though. read more

Luba corrected my colour and fixed an unflattering haircut. She listened carefully to what I wanted, asked the right questions and gave me exactly the cut I envisioned - flattering, easy to care for, with soft lines. I told her I don't use products or a hair dryer, unless it's cold out - and she listened. After she'd finished cutting she dried it without using products or curling brushes, so I could see that it was indeed the low-maintenance, stylish cut I wanted. Luba has a soft-spoken, courteous and sweet manner that is very endearing, too. I've had my hair cut in London, Paris, Manhattan and Tel Aviv and I am fussy. For years, I thought one had to go to Manhattan and pay $150 for a proper haircut. Luba proved me wrong. In fact, the haircut she fixed was one I got at an expensive Manhattan hair salon. Highly recommended. read more

I've been going to Bela for eyebrow and lip threading and bikini and leg waxing for almost a year. I've tried most other salons in Park Slope for these services, and none of them compare to Bela's skill, care, knowledge, and thoroughness. I have somewhat sensitive skin that usually becomes red and irritated after waxing, and I don't know how she does it, but I hardly have any of these symptoms anymore after her waxing. And her professionalism and care make this procedure a breeze! Her eyebrow threading is magic. I've been growing out my brows and prefer the natural look. After she threads my brows, they somehow look thicker! She never rushes and makes sure to create a beautiful and subtle arch that looks clean, yet natural. Bela really cares about her work product and her clients. She's an artist!! read more

Being both displaced and disheveled is not a good thing, but luckily this place came along. I booked an appointment with Luba for a cut on the same day I called and came in a little nervous. My hair was ratty, I didn't have any strong ideas as to what I wanted or how to improve it, and wasn't keen on trying a new stylist. While Luba seemed a little unnerved in the beginning that I didn't know what kind of hairstyle I wanted (I'm a follower what can I say?), she was patient with me as I scrunched my nose and said in so many words "I don't know." A few minutes and a few page flips through a style book later, we came to an understanding that we needed to get my hair in shape in order to do something cool with it in a few months. I agreed, relieved that she was finally taking the lead. As you can tell, I'm one of those people who love suggestions. Restaurants, movies, hair salons, you name it, I'm a sheep! Baaaa That being said, I love my haircut. I even came back for a color gloss a few days later because I loved the idea of seeing how I could naturally cover my wisdom aka my gray hair. The gloss left my hair shiny and blended my gray in naturally. I will come back here again! read more
