This business is not transparent. Before coming in I was assured multiple times that they were going to use Lassio Mocha, but instead they started to use some unknown product that came from the back in a gel form instead of the normal spray. They didn't even bother to consult or inform me of this change. After they washed my hair they brushed it incredibly rough, like they were trying to cause split ends, and subsequently asked if I wanted a haircut. I ended up trusting my gut and leaving without having my hair done. They respectfully stopped the process and did not charge me. I was really alarmed to learn that they were uninformed about the fact that formaldehyde is naturally produced when keratin is heated, and they told a woman it was safe for her child to breathe in. Anyone in the room should have a mask on and no kids should be present. It was very confusing too because they operate under two business names. They also speak Russian half the time and take your coat to a back room, which I'm not a fan of. I like my things where I can see them. read more

I am disabled, and I struggle to use my arms. As a result, I cannot use a straightener or put my hair up, and I needed a solution so I came here for keratin straightening treatment to make my hair more manageable. Prior to treatment, I asked multiple times if I would need to use a straightener, because otherwise, I would not get the treatment, and I was assured more than once that I would not. I was even shown another customer with stick straight hair and told my hair would look like that. I followed the rules of waiting to wash my hair and using the right shampoo, but after a week, as you can see in the photo, my hair is not straight. And this was not a cheap treatment. I paid $600. The salon has acknowledged that my hair is not straight, but is refusing to refund my treatment. I do not recommend this salon. read more

I came in on a Friday afternoon with about a 10 minute wait. The salon staff is really friendly and helpful! In terms of the service I got, threading, I felt that it was really actually below average. I've been getting my eyebrows threaded for years and have always trusted the technicians. I took a quick peak in the mirror and everything looked great. However, when I got home I noticed that while the shape looked good my eyebrows actually weren't cleaned up very well and had to actually tweeze them myself after paying someone to do it for me which really bothered me. This place is a little gem tucked into the South Slope. I went here for a haircut with Luba, who is nothing short of WONDERFUL. Luba is a lovely person and she is also a super talented hair stylist who is a fanatic when it comes to detail. She is a perfectionist, and it shows. Miraculously I tracked her down at Salon De Larue, a place far from my apartment and honestly, somewhere I'd probably never check out. I've spent my entire adulthood looking for a stylist who can cut my fine hair so that it's full and "messy" looking, like I want - Christine is the only one who can do it. The first time I went to her was just for a bang trim but I got such a great vibe I decided to cut it from shoulder-blade length to a bob. I was thrilled with the cut and I've never gone back to long hair! Every cut I get from her is better than the next. She also does my single process, a few shades darker as close to black without being black. The color is always rich and stays longer than anyone else's treatment. I moved to Park Slope this spring and sadly left my stylist of almost 15 years. Recently I had a party to attend and my hair was a disaster so I came in to Salon LaRue because it is around the corner from me. The stylist, Almira, did a nice job of cutting and styling my hair. She had done a color on the person before me that was really great so when I needed a color, I made an appointment with her. She did a great job on my hair. We also discussed adding highlights but honestly the color is so lovely that I don't think they are necessary. I was initially very unhappy with the salon itself because there was a Yelp discount that said valid for each check- in and the receptionist refused to honor it me because I had been there before, even though I hadn't used the coupon. She would not budge even though the coupon said good for every check-in. However, a short time later, I got a call from the manager, Luba, who was very apologetic. She explained the coupon had an error on it but still should have been honored and asked me to come back so she could refund the difference to me. She also immediately changed the typo on the coupon. She was so very warm and kind. Despite my initial unhappiness, I will certainly go back to Salon LaRue for my next cut and color. I got a great cut and color and they clearly care about doing the right thing for the customer. So why not 5 stars? They have a policy of charging an extra 10% for credit card payments, which I don't care for. In the future, I'll have to trek to the bank or pay more for my hairdo. read more

Whether you go for a leg wax or a brow wax, Luba is on hand to make your experience worthwhile. She knows how to make someone comfortable immediately (ok, she offered me wine... easy.) I found both instances of waxing relatively painless (c'mon it's still hair removal) and I found with the leg wax, that I was pretty hair-free for 3 weeks and running (which for me is a major achievement!) She listened carefully to what I wanted, asked the right questions and gave me exactly the cut I envisioned - flattering, easy to care for, with soft lines. I told her I don't use products or a hair dryer, unless it's cold out - and she listened. After she'd finished cutting she dried it without using products or curling brushes, so I could see that it was indeed the low-maintenance, stylish cut I wanted. I've been going to Bela for eyebrow and lip threading and bikini and leg waxing for almost a year. I've tried most other salons in Park Slope for these services, and none of them compare to Bela's skill, care, knowledge, and thoroughness. I have somewhat sensitive skin that usually becomes red and irritated after waxing, and I don't know how she does it, but I hardly have any of these symptoms anymore after her waxing. And her professionalism and care make this procedure a breeze! Her eyebrow threading is magic. I've been growing out my brows and prefer the natural look.
