For the last 20 years I have been a light blonde with a full head of highlights. I got sick for over a month and then had an accident and fractured 2 of my vertebrae so my gray hair was really horrible. I asked the owner if she could make my hair blonde all over but I wanted to not do highlights at that moment. She said sure see the blonde towards the middle to ends especially I can make you all blonde and get rid of all the grey. My husband was with me and asked for the price with a haircut. She quoted $50 fir for haircut and just roots was $50 and entire head of hair dyed would be $90 plus the haircut. I kind of felt that was a bit cheaper than I expected and reiterated that I would have all blonde hair as I had just get rid of the 3 inches of gray roots. She said absolutely. I made an appointment with her for a few days later. I went to the appointment and again made sure she understood that I wanted all blonde hair but no highlights this time. Highlights can be tricky and I needed to see her base work first. She put on the haircolor throughout my hair and I just waited to get washed out and have my hair cut. After she washed my hair and put a towel on my hair I sat in her chair and she removed the towel. I was Aghast! My hair looked brown o my god! She assured me that it was wet and when she blew it out it would be much lighter. She gave me a great haircut but as it was blown out dry I had light brown hair. She reassured me to give it time and my hair would lighten up a lot. My husband came back and liked the cut a lot but asked me why my hair was so dark and not blonde. He was also reassured that it was going to get lighter as I washed my hair. I was NOT HAPPY but I was pleased that the grey was gone. I must have been in shock because I didn't carry on about the color as I should have and let my husband pay her $155 cash plus I even paid her a 25.00 tip. I'm not one to start making a fuss and carry on in a place of business. Before I left I said It's not blonde and I received the same answer again. I should give it time to lighten up. It must have been the pain radiating from my fractured vertebrae I just wanted to go home and rest in my bed. Everyone that saw me after my botch hair appointment asked me why I made my hair dark. It never lightened up(how stupid was I)? I went back to talk to her a few weeks later because she said give it time. She blatantly lied to me about what she promised and had told me. She asked what I wanted her to do and I said give me some money back for color correction charges which I now have to have. She replied that I waited to long and she wasn't going to do anything. I was angry but she had another client in the store and it's not me to carry on in public. I cry every time I look in the mirror at my brown/reddish hair and just want to shave my head bald. STAY far away from this shop and young owner if you need your hair dyed. Don't be victimized by her lies. I'll never know why I went into that empty shop but I can prevent someone else.

Mariarae is my usual stylist and she knows my hair so well. Whether I'm just getting a trim or putting in highlights or anything else, she always knows what to do and she is just amazing! I have had haircuts from other staff members as well and everyone is really great. I always go here for special occasions too. Carolann did my hair for middle school graduation and I loved it. I had my hair done for senior prom yesterday by Tony, who did an incredible job. He has never worked with my hair before (I have thick hair that is not easy to manage) but he was so patient and precise about how it looked. I didn't really know what kind of style I wanted so he helped me figure it out...I pretty much just trusted him to do whatever he thought would look best based on the style and neckline of my dress. When I found Todd and Helen...I was in my twenties and my hair was breaking and crap...the staff there fixed it and made it healthy again. That's going back over 20 years ago! When's the owner sold the place and moved down south.... The staff migrated out to Oakwood and I followed. I have since moved out of state and have had alot of bad experiences. I was basically told it was my hair ...and my hair was breaking at an alarming rate. The color was terrible too...being so many places passed the blame on my "difficult" hair...I almost believed it lol I decided to try one more thing....I searched for the old staff at the second place and found the salon closed because the owner passed away and had to do some searching to find them again. Happily..I found out nece recently bought this place not too far away. She's a new salon owner! I have known her since she was practically a kid ;) No lie and Quite literally..I drove to nyc (five hours) and in a last ditch effort, got it done by my old hairdresser. Melissa...who I have known since she was a shampoo girl ;) it's like walking back in time as far as my hair. Literally. It will take time to restore the color... And what's broken must grow...but my hair feels soo much better and not even a little breakage...none. You can tell the root area is very very different as far as health and there is so much promise. Artie and his team pay great attention to detail and make sure you leave with a haircut better than you expected. I am impressed at how they clean off the cut hair and there is never any residual on my face, ears, clothes, or shoes. At the end, you are offered to have your hair styled with product for free. I am always pleased by the conversations we have and there's no pressure. Coming here feels like you're visiting a friend, which is what a relationship with your barber should be. A men's cut costs $14 (plus tip), which is a steal for the level of service and convenience that you receive.

I get my hair washed everything is fine. I get in the chair and say that I want long layers. Well my fellow yelpers I did not get long layers. What I received was 2 layers, one that was shoulder length and one that was 3 inches below my shoulders. No blending nothing. And on top of it the girl was going back and forth cutting my hair and doing another girls color. Maybe she was rushing me and wasn't paying attention? Maybe she is an awful hairstylist? Maybe she needs glasses? I don't know. What I do know is that I will never go back, and will warn anyone who thinks about making a visit to urban bay salon. I have gotten a better haircut and the Paul Mitchell school on new Dorp lane! Below I have attached pictures, before I got the cut from Masha, and after. BEWARE. I went in with blonde hair and wanted to do an ashy light brown grey color. The stylist asked to…read moresee the photo again and i don't even think she looked at it when i showed her. I got my hair washed (shout out to the girl with the dark hair who washes, she was so sweet and amazing at scrubbing!) After i washed, the stylist just started putting something in my hair and didn't even explain what it was until after it was all in and the cap was on. It was a "filler" to "get rid of some of the blonde" she says. I'm not a hair stylist so i didn't know what this meant but i do know that if you go ash you would have to be lighter not darker so i was confused why we were getting rid of the blonde. Nevertheless i trusted my hair stylist who does this for a living. I mean after all i did show her the photos for inspo again right? So she knows what color we are going for right? I was my hair again and it's just brown. A flat brown color similar to my natural hair color. I'm confused again but then she mixes some bowls that look a bit lighter and starts putting it in so i'm like ok cool that must be the lighter ashy color. She puts it in and foils it so i have no idea what it looks like. She doesn't talk or explain anything she's doing or try showing me anything while doing it, she's helping 2 other customers with a hair cut and hair color at the same time as me so i don't even have a chance to ask what it looks like. End of story, i paid $400 for dark brown hair when i showed a photo of ash colored hair. Update: i went back and explained i was unhappy with the outcome. The stylist tried to fix my hair but with it being so dark by that point there was no way she was going to manage to get it the color i wanted. I would've settled for a more ashy tone but again the outcome was terrible. It was a reddish brown color because she used a "clarifying" shampoo to strip my hair. I walked out still unhappy but i didn't want that woman to touch my hair any further. My hair is now extremely dry and still not the color i wanted but i can't do much to it since she did so many different things to it in such a short period of time.
