I needed a very last minute blowout and was recommended to bamboo salon by a friend. I called and was able to get an appt for the exact time and person I needed! Let me say she did NOT disappoint me. I went in wanting a full bouncy blowout (which I provided a picture with) and Melissa came through for me ! My best friend was getting married and I needed things to be perfect. Came here yesterday at 6:30PM for a wash, cut and blow, as this salon partnered up with my workplace to give healthcare workers a free haircut. Upon arrival, they offered cookies and allowed me to wait inside since it was close to my appointment time. It is very spacious inside and clean. I was also able to use their bathroom as well, which I greatly appreciated. My hair stylist was Brittany and she asked me exactly what I wanted. I asked for a two inch hair trim all around, with layers. She showed me what her two inches looked like and we both agreed before she started cutting. There is another woman who washes hair and she did a great job lightly massaging the scalp. Brittany was meticulous but very efficient in cutting my hair. I have very long hair but was in/out by 40 minutes I'd say. I also liked how she blew out my hair slightly wavy at the end. In all, I was very happy with my haircut. Visited this place upon recommendation and reading the amazing reviews. I had a cut done by Nancy who was very personable. My visit started with a wash and then the cut, finished with a style. The salon was clean and everyone was friendly. Nancy even mentioned that she would be happy to have me return if I wanted more cut later on. She also does Keratin treatments. Why the 3? The pricing on their website is simply inaccurate. The cut ended up being 50% more expensive than quoted. When I brought this up to the receptionist she didn't even bother to fact check my statement, but just said that every stylist charges a different amount and it could be as much as 2.5 times the price on their website. I would be fine with this if they had been up front about it, but it seems sneaky...they don't post $ and up, they just post a specific amount. Also, I just got my hair done today and it already looks frizzy like I will need to flatiron it to look smooth. All in all Nancy was very nice, but I probably won't return for the stated reasons. read more

It turned out beautiful and I felt like a million bucks. Petrina was sensitive to my schedule and asked if I wanted my hair to be styled. I had no preference so Petrina went the extra mile and styled my hair! Prices were extremely reasonable-this place felt like a high end salon, had high end service, so I was prepared for high end prices. This is a pretty good salon, and they definitely spend good time on you and take your requests seriously. I got my very long hair drastically lightened and so far I am very happy with all of my experiences. Lisa was very attentive and used her artistic skills to try to accomplish the look I wanted. Three stars instead of five because there was one little hitch that left a bad taste in my mouth: I filled out a survey for the service I received and it clearly stated that I would receive "10% off my next visit" to the salon. After an apparent phone call to the owner, they cheaped out a little and only gave me 10% off of the cheapest service I received. So really, I saved about $3.00. Well on my quest to find a good salon and stylist I stopped into Bamboo. The salon itself is beautiful and my stylist was friendly. When I say the word dark Caramel apparently to this guy it meant canary yellow, mismatched, zebra like highlights. Of course, while he's doing my hair I'm thinking hmm it's going to be subtle, caramel highlights, had this done before so I know what to expect. I also find it odd that the lighting in the salon is so dark. When he was finished I thought it seemed a little lighter then usual, and chunkier but let me look at it in the daylight or at home. I walked out with close to a $200 bill, told it looked fabulous and beautiful, (I'm waiting for a stylist to admit when the color didn't turn out as planned), and so on that note I left. I decided to look in the mirror in my car in daylight and that's when disaster struck. The whole top layer of my hair, and this is over dark brown hair, was yellow, brassy, uneven, there was roots showing where the highlights were. I figured maybe it would look better in indoor lighting. Boy was I wrong. To make a really long story short, I was embarrassed to be seen in public with my hair. I could have and should have went back and had him fix it, but I was soo annoyed that he say something looked good when it was a horror show really irked me. I ended up going to another salon and had them dye it over. I've had bad hair experiences, I think everyone has, but this took the cake. read more

I'm so happy I came here; this salon is great! The staff is pleasant and professional. One week prior to coming here, my hair was dyed at another salon, and it turned out very different from what I had wanted. I needed my hair fixed ASAP. I really wanted a beautiful, deep reddish brown but was left with orange hair. As we all know, hair changes everything, so it was hard to walk around like that. I'm very grateful that I was able to get an appointment so quickly with Bamboo Salon. I walked in at the time of my appointment and was taken right away. I felt that all of my thoughts and requests were taken seriously and they tried very hard to make me happy. Jimmy (the person who dyed and cut my hair) did a great job explaining what we needed to do to get my hair where I wanted it to be. The end result was exactly what he explained. First, my hair was dyed a chocolate brown (on top of bright red). Then, he cut a few pieces in the front to frame the hair around my face. The length and angles came out beautiful!!! My hair is still long but now feels lighter and looks much more flattering with a few shorter pieces in the front. My color is way more attractive and natural looking. I'm planning to return for highlights. The environment here is friendly and relaxing - not at all pretentious. They are reasonably priced and less than 5 minutes from my home. I wish after moving to Richmond Town two years ago, I would have started coming here sooner. I'm very happy I found a reliable place so close to home! read more

My first visit here. My go to Melrose Place is closed on Sunday's. I normally shlep to tottenville to chic blow out bar but I decided to try this place not far from my house. They were able to accommodate me for a 10am appointment with the wonderful Samantha. From the moment I stepped into the salon, I felt right at home. The ambience was relaxing. The first thing the stylist did was sit me in her chair and go over my style preference. Then her assistant asked me if I wanted to drink, getting me the coffee I ordered. They washed my hair and Samantha gave me one of the best blow outs I've ever had. I told her that my hair normally falls within 10 minutes of walking out of the salon and she took great care in making sure my hair was voluminous and sexy. I will definitely be back! read more

I decided to try bamboo and fell in love. Have been coming here for a long time and meaning to review but I always forget because Im too busy obsessing over my wonderful hair ! Love this place. Brittany does my hair and she is awesome. When I first started going here my hair looked like crap. It was really damaged from processing and extensions and using bad products. Now my hair is so soft and looks a thousand times better. Just got my hair done today and Brittany did an amazing job with my color- I got balayage. I also really love the products she suggests for me. Some have definitely ruined my hair. But Jimmy just did my hair and he listened to every single thing I wanted while he also made my hair look so healthy and fresh! He made me feel comfortable which was great because I always get so nervous cutting my hair (which i'm sure most people do) I got a glaze, haircut and blowout and the price was so great. The parking lot only has about 3 to 4 spots but you can find street parking nearish. Everyone is friendly and Louie has done my cut the last 2 times. I loved my most recent cut where I cut off like a foot of hair. They are known for color but I haven't committed to that yet. They do not push product on you which I really like. Nothing turns me off more then the up selling of unnecessary treatments and product. So I will be back. read more

I've been to many SI salons and while there are a lot of good salons that handle long hair well, rarely do I find one that cuts short hair well. It was my first time here and based on the reviews I took a chance. I was assigned Tori and wow, so impressed. She was so sweet. I have really short hair and messed it up by trimming it myself. Louis is an amazing stylist and is extremely talented and so are all the others. What I love about this salon is that the entire staff is friendly and the services are extremely affordable, especially on Staten Island. Louis is extremely knowledgeable and i always leave it up to him! The outcome is better and better every time! I love this place. And I love Lois. He's been such a sweetheart & he always does my highlights the way I want. When they wash out a lil, they look even better. I recently made a mistake by going to an inferior salon ( just a simple root touch up I thought, what's the worst that could happen?) boy was I wrong! Walked out with patchy, damaged hair, orange roots. Lois was kind enough to take me the next day to fix my disaster even thou he was all booked for the day. The idiot who ruined my great highlights said " it's Ur hair, they just turn orange"... Well guess what, Lois took orange out in 15 min. If I could give it 0 stars I would. Those people are the most unprofessional and weird. They canceled my appt then claimed they never received it. Even though I had the confirmation email. Then told me the stylist has "somewhere to go" and honestly she looked really weird to me so I'm glad she didnt touch my hair. They offered to make another stylist to do my hair and I only agreed to because I need to change my hair color for an event. After waiting for 20 mins she left lol. Deadass left and the dumb receptionist made it sound like it was my fault instead of fucking apologizing. Idk why are those people so disrespectful it's not even funny. I pay you to do my hair, so at least know your limits. No manager was around. Most unprofessional place ever. Packed with weird looking people, let alone they have Luis working at that salon lol, he sucksssss just like Torre(they both don't know what they're doing Louis will ignore all your instructions he burned my hair last year and had the audacity to still charge me and Torre colored my hair orange instead of light brown on my first visit and apologized) and I was hoping Sam wouldn't be as bad based on her IG work but apparently it's all bullshit. Went for makeup and hair styling for a wedding. I brought pictures of what I wanted my hair to look like and my hair came out even better than the pictures; not too done up like prom hair, more romantic with curls pulled back off my face. Lina did both my hair and makeup. My makeup was to die for.. I got full face makeup and lashes, the makeup lasted the entire night! The lashes lasted an additional 3 days before I started plucking them off. Lina did an amazing job!!!!! And the prices were reasonable! Highly recommend! I was so happy with how everything came out. Having never been to Bamboo before, I just selected a time slot and went with Brittany. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted right away and offered a drink - multiple times, even though it was so busy. The guy who washed my hair was very personable, and I swear he massaged a headache right out of me. Brittany, my stylist, was so sweet. She took the time to listen to what I wanted, give suggestions and educate me on what was best for my hair - which I really appreciate given how clueless I am! My cut and styling turned out great. When I was finally recommended to Bamboo salon I was hesitant to think they would for the bill since I hadn't found anyone it liked on SI. Fortunately I was wrong! From the moment i walked in, everyone was on their toes ready to help and make me feel comfortable. I was offered a drink and have never waited more than 5 minutes for my appointment. When I did meet my stylist, she was so sweet, and really focused on what I wanted to have done. Usually I am very indecisive so she made me feel super comfortable by being confident in her work and doing what she thought was best. And in the end it was perfect. I also went back for a wedding and had my makeup done here. Needless to say, flawless.
