We are visiting our daughter and son-in-law in Santa Cruz, CA but "normally" live in Virginia. We needed to get a warranty deed notarized to send back to Virginia. It required two signatures -- one each for me and my husband. Pros: we were able to schedule an appointment with the notary online. The shop was within walking distance of our daughter's, and was easy to find. We were greeted professionally when we arrived and throughout the transaction, and were seen immediately. Our documentation was carefully checked. Unfortunately, though, we can't say that our transaction was a good value. The UPS store back home charges $5 per signature, whereas this store charged $15 each or $30 total. (and, our local library does it for free). To be fair, it's possible that this is the going rate in California. The gentleman also didn't tell us in advance that the notarization requirements/seal look different in California than in Virginia -- so we're holding our breaths to see if the document will be accepted on the Virginia side. read more

I went to get a paper notarized at this UPS store. I started to have a mild asthma attack and the person doing the notary keep staring at me. If you know anything about a new diagnosis of asthma on of the main symptoms are mucous plugs and wheezing. I kept clearing my throat and took my inhaler twice. It's on camera. The person doing the notary was coughing and people behind me were cough. I cleared my throat and he raised his voice at me saying if you're going to cough cover your mouth. So let's see I've experienced racism before and neither white people got a lecture for coughing. I don't recommend this store and I will not be going back. read more

This review is for my experience today, returning Amazon goods. I was helped by a nice young lady named MAEZE-- shoutout to management! Promote this girl! She was extremely professional and welcoming. She multi-tasked several customers plus the phone ringing, w/ no other staff, with poise. Great instincts and customer service. I hardly had to say a word. Other times, it's a boy or two at the counter who act like they'd rather die than help you. Don't take it personally lol. It's a small little shop so it can feel crowded if there's more than 3 customers. People can be a little intense in the parking lot, so be careful driving. read more

Apprehensive review.. more to be continued...2.5- 3 range.. The guy here is very up front and to the point which for some folks can be off putting. I had never been told I could not ship to my brother in college. I have always used PO BOX in the address.. apparently I am not supposed to? Taking out the PO was essentially the difference between this guy helping me or not. I called my little brother to clarify address and po box.. typical 20 something "yea... whatever works" answer. Awesome... Going back to the guy he finally looked at the address and said no problem just write this... woot. victory. Lol I was charged an extra $6 by the manager for "computer use time" just because I used the computer to log into Canvas and print my lecture notes. I stopped by the UPS Store with what I felt were some complicated transactions. I had a return with a UPS-printed label for a watch but no packaging. No problem. UPS had an envelope that worked for the task. I had two documents to be notarized as part of a legal application. No problem. Friendly notary was immediately available and quickly completed the needed documentation. No waiting at one of the copiers so my 50+ paged document was quickly copied. Back to the front desk for a quick discussion of the options for mailing the legal document with tracking. Everything was accomplished professionally, quickly, and gave me a lot of confidence that what had seemed to be complicated and time-consuming wasn't. I admit that my timing was excellent since it wasn't a Monday and it was early enough that the store wasn't busy. I also deliberately waited until after Christmas to avoid the crowds trying to mail items. I'm very grateful for the great customer service at this store and would highly recommend it. read more

I cannot leave a worst review...this store is awful!!!! First of all they "pretended" they attempted to deliver my package, being home all day the attempt was never made (LIARS). So I had to change the delivery to "pick up", I put my fiance's name to pick it up as I work out of town during their business hours. They LOST my package, and told my fiance that they couldn't release it to him even if they didn't loose it, even though I put his name on the pick up detail. AVOID THIS PLACE IF AT ALL POSSIBLE...have never in my life dealt with such POOR or AWFUL customer service!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The other store on Sylvania (accross from Costco) is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't have enough GREAT things to say about the customer service there!!!!!!!!! read more

I went into The UPS Store in Santa Cruz today to send a package (a pair of defective boots) back to Zappos.com (whose customer service experience was absolutely fantastic!!!!). In times past, The UPS Store's workers are generally helpful in lending tape to customers, and doing other things to make customers feel good. So I came in without just the top flaps of my box taped, and otherwise had the form printed up and the box ready to go. The "manager" of the store told me in a tense voice "that will be $1 for the tape." I replied, "Are you serious?" I really thought he was joking! He proceeded to sternly tell me that "these things cost money," and "someone has to pay for it." Not a flicker in his eye, not an ounce of warmth or a smile...just a hard, unhappy, disgruntled, "No. I need your dollar." I replied, "Sir, any other UPS Store I've ever been to has allowed me to use their tape if I brought in my own box. Are you for real? Seriously? A dollar?" Ironically, I hadn't brought in my wallet because I was just making a drop-off. In fact, I had tape at home that I could have scrounged around for, but I figured I could just borrow the tape gun behind their counter (as I've experienced in Marin, Scott's Valley, Charlotte, NC, Ithaca, NY....every The UPS Store I've frequented over several years). This guy says, "You can't borrow it! You wouldn't be giving it back, would you?" So we proceeded to have one of those types of conversations that one dreads having...between a person who is trying to give a company business and speak like a reasonable person to (hopefully) another reasonable person....and another person who is more like a computer program (immovable and cold) than a pulse-bearing human being. The manager proceeded to repeat that it's "company policy" to not give tape to customers. I questioned, again, stating that I've experienced very hospitable treatment at other stores in the same chain...AND tape...so how could it be "company policy?" At this point, he was raising his voice ever so slightly, and as such I was on the verge of tears...to which he replied, "Don't go there." I asked him for his manager's name so I could file a complaint. He answered, "I am the manager." I asked him for his name so I could call UPS directly to file my complaint with them. He stood there silently, refusing to budge. AND....to top it all off...he proceeded to place the plastic sleeve (the pouch with the adhesive on the back), which contained my UPS mailing printout in it, across the box flaps on top so that the pouch itself taped it shut automatically. He began to bring the box to the back, to which I questioned, "Will it be okay like that?" And he replied non-emotionally, "Of course it will." Then why did he put me through 10 minutes of horrendous customer service???? If the box was fine as-is??! And didn't even need the stinking tape!?! Wow. I think that giving the courtesy of 2 cents of tape is going to cost this man at least $200 in future business! Apparently he is not interested in running a thriving business. I highly recommend The UPS Store in Scotts Valley if you can make the hike up....they are super-sweet and don't penny-pinch on the tape. read more

I went in here to drop off a Zappo's return. Easy enough, right? Not even! I asked for a piece of tape, not longer than 16", to close my box. The guy at the counter (only person there) said, "One dollar." I thought he was kidding, because that's absolutely ridiculous. A dollar for a piece of tape? I asked if he was joking, and he said no, and pointed to a sign that said tape is a dollar. I ended up just using the shipping label as tape because there is no way I'm paying a DOLLAR for some tape. I'd understand if it were a more nominal value - say, 10c or even a quarter if the package is large. However, tape is free at any other UPS store, as is customer service. I wish I could give this place negative stars. The owner is SUPER rude and a total crook. His prices are a rip-off. On top of that, I had left him my credit card number to charge me for mail-forwarding. Not only did he not forward any of my mail, he ended up putting erroneous charges on my card without my permission or knowledge! When confronted, he denied the whole thing. Once I showed him the charges on my credit card statement, he still argued about refunding the money. I finally got him to agree to refund the charges and over a week later he still has not done it even after my bugging him about it repeatedly. He keeps claiming he is "too busy". Now I have to go through the bank to deal with it and as you can imagine, it's a HUGE pain in the ass!! What a piece of S**T this guy is! I have no words... This is NOT something you should ever have to deal with, especially with something as mundane as a mail-box. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE!!! read more

I'm surprised that this place is still in business. The owner is extremely rude and treats his customers with a lack of respect. In addition to that, I drove all the way over to print a document and have it notarized only to be told that he doesn't allow printing any longer because he blames a customer for breaking his computer in the past. The only UPS store that I've ever been denied a print job after a drive over with my toddler and not the time or ability to run back and forth to bring him a document. He was rude, dismissive, and acted as if he didn't want my business anyway. Stay away from this place. read more

This is the absolute worst customer service I've ever experienced. The Asian man that wears glasses is incredibly rude and unaccommodating. He locks the doors before the posted closing time. He is not friendly or helpful in any way and it seems as though he would rather not be there. I'm surprised that this location is still open. I will drive across town to the store on Almar just to not deal with him. He will refuse to take a return package and tell me that I have to go to the post office, but if I go to the other location on Almar, they will gladly help me with a smile. This place REALLY sucks. I was in a hurry to ship out a book before class and came in there hoping to send out a book for cheap. Prices were ridiculous so I asked if there was anything cheaper or if I could ship via USPS and the man replied somewhere along the lines of "this is a business and we charge extra so we could make money". Don't quote me on that but that's what he was trying to explain to me like I was an idiot. At this point, I was ready to leave, but I desperately needed to at least package the book to ship it out elsewhere. He tried charging me somewhere along the lines of $3 for a standard 8 x 11 yellow envelope. RIP OFF. And then I needed to tape it up and he wouldn't give me tape. He tried making me buy the tape. What a mark! Bounced! NEVER go here, you WILL have a bad experience. Went to the downtown USPS instead. I've had positive experiences over at the UPS store next to the Safeway on the westside. They actually package stuff FOR you and charge decent prices with the option of shipping with USPS or UPS. read more

This place is a paragon of incompetence. I have been sending online print requests to them (usually for 2-3 black and white pages). I always call them to make sure my job has been printed and is ready for pickup - (after their 24 hour waiting period). They always say YES, it is ready, come and get it. And then I go there and not only has it not been printed, they can't find it, need to wait until some customer stops using their "only computer", or some other such wretched excuse. I have now tried 3 times to get the same 2 pages, always with the same results - nothing! I still don't have my copy after about 5 days of this!I have sworn never to go back to this place again. read more

When I asked him to help me he said " can't you read, do it yourself , the instructions are right here ". If I could give negative stars, I would. Went in the day after thanksgiving to drop off a package, and the owner says VERY rudely "drop off? Okay, I got it, you can go now". My husband told him we needed a receipt and he says "ok, whatever". My Husband tried to "kill him with kindness" so he asked how he was doing and the guys reply was "don't ask, I don't want to be here. Here's your receipt, now you go". I used this UPS store for notary. $10 a signature, typical price. If you have a lot of pages to sign (such as for a mortgage loan), USE A MOBILE NOTARY. I went to another UPS store and this couple ahead of me were paying the $10/page fee; I bet there must have been at least 20 pages and a $200 notary fee. read more

Since new ownership took over; I've noticed the customer service has drastically changed for the better. I'm so happy to not see that sour face that used to dwell there with total lack of disregard for the customers in general. It's about time this place has new blood in it and I'm happy to report the new ownership truly deserve 5 stars.
