Horrible experience, please stay away from this store. I was shipping a high value item (passport) and asked for next day delivery. Paid $200 and asked the gentleman to confirm twice that it would be ready to deliver by tomorrow 9am, and he did. When I got home I checked the UPS tracking and it said Monday, not Saturday. I went back to the store 20 minutes later and they said there was nothing they could do. I later learned he'd selected next day but forgot to select "Saturday." He first tried to say he'd clicked Saturday, then finally apologized. It got worse from there. My husband called Chase about the situation, and they told him that if he returned the package to sender, given it had only been 1-2 hours, he could likely pick it up at the store on Saturday (the next day). Instead, we're now getting a Wednesday delivery. I tracked this down with both corporate and field staff, who confirmed the store's auto service tier defaults to a 3 day return to sender, even though a next day option exists. Field staff on high alert tried to intercept the package, but couldn't, since the store had selected the 3 business day shipping option. So this store's error cost us a Saturday pickup and replaced it with a Wednesday delivery, on a passport we needed urgently. We ended up paying 5x the next day shipping amount to move flights because of this. They didn't offer a refund either, since technically the service wasn't "completed" as expected. I was told to write to the store email and have not received any response, apology, or refund even though I did not receive the service I was told I would (and paid $200 for). It's scary that this level of clerical error happens with high sensitivity documents like passports. Staff need much better training. Until then, I would not recommend UPS, and definitely not this store. read more

This UPS store has one of the coolest employees I've countered in years. His name is Emilio. He is incredibly kind, friendly, helpful, bright, skilled, efficient, and hard-working. He should be rewarded by the company and promoted. Great job, Emilio! Even though I think Emilio is fantastic, I think UPS as a company could be much better. I tried to call customer service and was told I'd have to wait an hour. It's incredibly difficult to contact a live person. Also, one of the things that makes me so angry is that UPS charges nearly $6 DOLLARS to print out ONE label for shipping. This is an absolutely despicable and ABSURD company policy. If you walk down the street to FedEx Office, you can easily print anything for 37 CENTS per page with your phone via their self-service printer. FedEx also has much better shipping prices and overall service. And because of this I only use UPS for Amazon returns. I would use UPS for everything else if they had better pricing, a self-service print, and better shipping overall. GET it together UPS! Get a self-service printer and have reasonable prices. This place is a total rip off. Allow me to quantify my assessment with an example from yesterday. I went in to return a shirt and was told the best rate for UPS Ground was $51 + approx $8 for a shipping envelope. So nearly $60!! So I left and walked 3 blocks to Postal Chase and was charged only $17.60 for the exact same service (UPS Ground + envelope). And by the way, as I was waiting in line at UPS Store, the 2 customers being helped ahead of me were also gagging in disbelief and disgust at the prices being charged. My advice is to avoid the UPS Store unless (a) you are desperate, (b) have no other choice, (c) you have free return shipping or (d) you enjoy being exploited and taken advantage of. In my case, I saved $40 and received faster and friendly service simply by walking 3 blocks to a business that respects and values its customers. read more

I wish I could give this place negative stars. I went to drop off a return that was being sent back via UPS and was charged $15. I've done this at several other ups drop off locations and never been charged anything. My big mistake was that I had them print out the return label. I thought it would be 15-50 cents to print one page. But nope, they charged me $15!!! to print out the return label and tape it on the package (the package was already sealed). There was a huge line, otherwise I would have made a fuss. I waited ~20 minutes to get to the front of the line. I felt like I had been completely taken advantage of. At a minimum, the person working there should have told me, "sure, I can print off the label and tape it on, but it will cost $15, do you still want that?" It felt like a complete rip off. I will NEVER go to this place again and if I didn't have a life, I'd sit outside and tell others not to go inside. But I do, so I won't. read more

Brought a return here, just needed to print the pre-paid return label to send the package back. They said it is $4.80 for them to print a piece of paper. FOUR DOLLARS AND EIGHTY CENTS to print a pre-paid shipping UPS label on a piece of paper that I would then tape to the box (with tape I brought - thank goodness, probably would have been $2,000 for a piece of tape). The average cost of a sheet of paper is $.01 (when bought in bulk by a consumer, NOT UPS who buys paper in WAY greater quantities than a consumer). The average cost of ink is $.03 when printing a page of paper (when bought in bulk by a consumer, not UPS who buys ink in WAY greater quantities than a consumer). Total cost to print a shipping label on a piece of normal paper is $.04 for a consumer, lord knows it is MUCH cheaper for UPS. $4.80 / $.04 = 120 120x markup to provide a service that's already been paid for is horseshit. This UPS office needs better staffing. They'll frequently only have 1-2 people working and the line can really back up. Frustrating experience when you're trying to get in and out quickly. They are each friendly, knowledgeable and super helpful. They are also very efficient and get through clients as quickly as they can. This is my first stop every morning before work, I retrieve mail for my boss. My arrival time is around 10am and 90% of the time, parking is ample. The staff is amazingly friendly and helpful. They'll get to know you and it becomes a nice morning routine. Mark, the general manager is leaving for a much better job opportunity so good for him! He's surely going to be missed. These guys are fairly new owners of the location on Chestnut, and are working hard to improve their community image. Yes, they charge a little extra to box that gift and ship it for you. I've popped into this UPS store countless times for a variety of reasons and the staff has always been super accommodating and helpful. They also have notary services that are always available and around $10 bucks a signature. This place must be family owned because everyone is so darn nice! My biggest complaint is that they charge you $3.50 to print one piece of paper! That's insane right? I know we live in San Francisco but, you could either print 10 pages at this UPS store or go buy a printer...you tell me what's a better deal. I had needed a federal document notarized that verified my identity. There was a section on that form for the notary to fill out and the employee crossed out that section. She had attached an all purpose acknowledgement and reassured me that it would be ok when i expressed concern. She told me thats how they do it in california. She had even asked the other associate working there for a 2nd opinion and her associate said the same. Turns out its not ok and my reason for concern was correct because my application is delayed from this issue. read more

I have had multiple encounters with her being off putting and telling me different things than other workers. The most recent encounter she refused to take my small usps package and when I explained to her I was in the day before and dropped off a similar sized package, she cut me off and said, "Can't take it" and proceeded to ignore me. Melanie went out of her way to assist. But overall everyone was helpful. The customer PC isn't tied in with the fed ex printer so I had to save my document, then email it to the store for them to print. So heads up if that process works for you(comfort level). Short and sweet.I sent a letter 2 day mail,it was yet two days later and the letter was not delivered.I paid a lot for two day!! A lot! I call to get compensated the difference for the in shipping and was told there was nothing they could do because of COVID-19 ,things slip ..well I wasn't getting what I paid for.. I called ups and was told there was a letter posted at the counter explaining that there was no compensation during theses unusual times.fine!......but there was no letter posted..I feel that had I known,WHY?,WHY? would I pay 6x the money to send two day if there was a chance it wasn't going to get there on time.. One of my least favorite things to do in life is ship back items I've purchased online. It's like an extra punishment for poor judgment post "add to cart". Great news. This UPS Store doesn't mess around. I walked in confused, with an Amazon return email on my phone and barely taped closed box...no worries! The lovely guy working there took my phone, enlarged the obscure code and took the box without a single question. Great service. I also wanted to mail a small gift to Chicago (baby gift season) and the cost to ship was very reasonable. Wonderful experience and service overall! I walked in with a smile, friendly greeted the woman at the counter and showed her my box to ship. From the start she was irritable, rude and not interested in her job. Nobody else was in the store, so there was no pressure to assist any other customers. I took my business to USPS down the street, believe it or not they were pleasant and provided shipping options without terrible attitude. I've heard from other neighbors that this UPS store has terrible customer service. I was absolutely appalled at the recent service I received from the UPS store in the Marina... I relied on the seemingly-friendly owner to help with my relocation to the East Coast. I had 9 boxes total (nearly everything portable that I owned -- clothing, shoes, bedding, and even my large LCD TV)... I knew that their services would be expensive, however, I felt it was worth the investment and decided to go with a trustworthy carrier. I chose UPS because I had utilized their services before. I found myself in a similar situation (however moving my belongings from Chicago to San Francisco). The service was great, affordable, on-time, and the pick-up/delivery staff was amazing. Choosing UPS was a no-brainer for this move, as well. After a large, LARGE bill (~$1,000). I left all of my belongings to the mercy of the owner at the UPS store on Chestnut. A week later, when my boxes were delivered to my new place in NYC, the shipment was short by one box (the box w/ my TV). The delivery man had no record of it, and neither did the local UPS station. Next, I called the owner of the UPS store on Chestnut. I explained my situation (and obvious concern). He nonchalantly told me that my TV was sent 3 days after the rest of my shipment. Apparently, he didn't have the correct packing equipment to send it to me, and he had to wait. I asked the obvious question: "Why didn't you notify me of this?" He could have called, emailed, etc. That's when the owner proceeded to hang up on me. I gave him the benefit-of -the-doubt and hoped that we were accidentally disconnected. I called him back, and of course, received his voicemail. My one request per my voicemail was that he contact me via phone or email with my shipping information and/or tracking number for the remaining box. No return call. I was appalled. Appalled that I had spent a large sum of money at his business, and he had the audacity to hang-up on me rather than offer a professional explanation/apology. I never received a return telephone call. In this economy, really??? There are so many options out there. It's a shame that this owner had the poor business sense to treat a customer this way. If you have the choice, choose any of the other UPS stores in beautiful San Francisco. I'm sure they will be more-than-willing to help you. (Or at least provide you with the basic service you paid for)... read more
