Walking into this Office Depot is less like a retail experience and more like an unintended pilgrimage through a warehouse that time--and janitors--forgot. If you are coming here for the FedEx drop-off, may the saints guide you, because the store certainly won't. There are zero visible signs indicating where to leave your packages. I eventually discovered that "service" here is a theoretical concept rather than a practiced reality. I spent enough time standing around waiting for a human being that I nearly developed a patina to match the floor. Speaking of the floor: it is impressively dirty. For a place that sells cleaning supplies, they seem remarkably hesitant to use them. The aisles are packed with merchandise, yet the store manages to feel abandoned--like a cluttered monument to corporate indifference. If you enjoy scavenger hunts in dusty, unstaffed showrooms, this is your Mecca. If you actually want to ship a package or be acknowledged as a breathing entity, literally anywhere else in the Richmond would be better. read more

I WAS ROBBED when I purchased a HON® 510 25"D Vertical 4-Drawer File Cabinet from Office Depot for $679.99 and it was delivered smashed on the side. I made multiple attempts for 11 days where it sat outside my front door to have it picked up, and they never picked it up and never returned my money. I had someone come and take it to the dump. Attached are photos of it sitting outside my front door and a photo of the file cabinet when it was in the truck when it was being taken to the dump. Thursday night around 8:20 pm and the entry path was blocked. I just drove up the exit path. It's only 8:20 pm. No one was in the store, except a man and a women. I went there to scan some docs to a memory stick. I needed help with the copier; and a fellow was about 20 feet away. I greeted him and asked if he works here. He was bent over and stood up to show me his red t shirt and said: 'Do you see my shirt?' I said ok, I need help and with a stern look, he said: ' I don't know nothing about copiers' Talk about rude. I finished my work and paid the very nice cashier. I went to my car in the garage and reached the exit but the garage chain door was fully down. And it was 8:57 pm. They close at 9 pm. I called the store phone number and someone said he would be down. A couple minutes later, it's the same guy who would not help me with the copier. After he arrived , i said hello. He was silent. I wrote a complaint letter and a few days later, a contrite email came back and said they would look into this. This was a bad customer experience. read more

As for the store it has generous parking on the 2nd floor, the space is clean, well stocked and intuitively organized. The staff were helpful. Everything about this location is bad with the exception of one thing: a single man that appears to be a combination of a cashier and a store manager. I don't know your name, but you keep this store running. I have so much respect for you. Every other employee at the store seems to be asleep or possibly working with limited mental faculties available to them. But you cut through the noise. It was pouring rain when we entered Office Depot this day. It was also about 30 minutes before it closed. We came for stationary items including scissors, tape, cardboard paper and other miscellaneous items. We had our hoods on when we entered. We were greeted promptly by a man who said "good evening gentlemen." Which was kind. But my group had two women and me in it. And I was in the back. He was obviously embarrassed and apologetic but that set the tone for the visit as we then shared awkward encounters and eye contact the rest of our visit. It's a fun thing I get to bring up with the Black women I was with here and there but not so much fun in the moment. We were the only people in the store due to the rain and time we went to. Finding the aisle that we needed was super easy but finding the items we needed was hard. Wasn't the most organized stationary aisle. We actually found the things we wanted in a different aisle with other products and we thought that it was an odd place to put it. Checkout was easy and simple. There are multiple cash registers for the times it's super busy. I think with a little bit more organization, it could be a 3 star but I think we spent a little more time than necessary here trying to find what we wanted. This is my go-to office supply store for supplies and services, particularly high-speed scanning. The store is centrally located and has ample covered parking on the 2nd floor. What distinguishes this store from so many others these days, however, is the staff. Incredibly courteous and helpful - a shoutout in particular to Jose who managed to help in the most unexpected way when I accidentally dropped my keys in the gap between the elevator and threshold. He was able to come up with a solution in minutes and I'm now a customer for life! read more

Adrian was doing the heavy lifting today - and is the reason for 4 stars and not 2 or 1 Adrian is a rock star and asset to this store. I rushed in for an HP XL black ink cartridge and I was greeted nicely by Adrian. He offered to dispose of my empty coffee cup and pointed me to the correct area of the store to find the (always overpriced, even more than the H-P site) ink cartridge area. Not finding anyone else in this cavernous store, I tapped Google to make sure I found the correct one and it was $6 over H-P's pricing. Not so good. Belatedly and after my Google search, another employee answered my bleat for help and was borderline aggressive, like I'd woken him from his winter hibernation. Another woman near folders and dividers seemed angry too. But not Adrian, still at the entry/checkout, nicely asking if I found what I needed, sympathizing that the world now needs **everything under lock and key. Great employee: Give him a raise and let him manage the crew if he isn't already doing so. Retail work is hard, I did it too to make bills. But Michael and his coworker both pointed out pictures from particular schools that this store directly supports. I'm just really impressed with Michael and his coworker for going out of the way for something that doesn't benefit them directly at all. Plus, the prices are swell and they've got lots of stuff. This one-star review is for the aggressive, argumentative, unprofessional associate who initially started my exchange. On his shirt is a name tag with "James, Sales Manager" on it. I'm guessing he's about 30 years of age, 6' tall+, more than average weight, baldish, and shaved head. This guy should only be customer-facing AFTER he completes training and coaching. The issue was small. I was exchanging an item I purchased online for store pick-up. I requested to be refunded the amount I was charged, not the amount listed in the store, which differed from my online purchase. The issue was resolved only after a highly argumentative exchange with James. James escalated a small problem by telling me what I said, to which I disagreed and corrected him on what I was requesting. (He got 50% of what I said correct). He says to me "I'm sorry you're having a bad day". The last thing he said to me that motivated me to turn away from him and to other sales associates for help was, "I don't have to help you; this is a private company or organization." I said loudly and twice to the other sales associates "Can I just pay and leave, please?". Thankfully, another sales associate intervened, telling James he'd help me. This sales associate was someone I initially talked to as I walked through the store. My experience and observation of this sales associate is A+ for professionalism, work ethic, and very customer-service oriented with his low-key manner. I think this EXCELLENT sales associate is about 30 years of age, a thin black man under 6'. I'm so grateful and appreciative of his intervention and help in completing my purchase. GIVE this excellent sales associate a raise and promotion! Meanwhile, James is down the counter, petulantly talking to himself under his breath but loud enough for me and others to hear. I also want to point out that when I first stood in line waiting for help, the two sales associates mentioned above were behind the counter. James was not helping anyone but looking at his phone or something in his hand while the other sales associate (the excellent customer service-oriented Black associate) was helping a customer. PLEASE DO NOT SHOP AT OFFICE DEPOT! Here is my tale: I have a business account at Office Depot. A month ago I spent over $100 at the store on Geary Street IN San Francisco and returned 4 ink cartridges at the same time. I was told I couldn't get the $12 dollars they promised me until the next time. Two weeks later I went back to the store and spent almost $200 and asked for the the $12 they owed me. They said they had no record of the ink cartridges despite the fact they were listed at the top of my previous receipt. I went home and called customer services. The first person I spoke to hung up on me for apparently no reason. Somewhat miffed I called back and asked to speak to a manager. I was put on hold for 40 minutes and then hung up on. Undaunted, I called back and got a very nice young woman. She called the store to find out what was going on and the store hung up on her. So together she and I wrote a report of the whole thing and she said I would hear from Office Depot in 2 days. While I was on hold the 2nd time I priced my items from my last shopping trip on Amazon and discovered I would have saved $50 had I shopped with Amazon. So I called the store back and canceled my business account. After a week, I had not heard from Office Depot so I called back. The person I spoke with was able to read the account we had written the week before. I told him I wanted my $12 credited back to my card. He said he could not do that. I would have to spend $10 dollars in the store to get back my $12. I told him I didn't intend to spend one more dollar in the store. I just wanted the promised $12 credited to my card. After a good deal of back and forth where he said he could not do that and I said he could find a way, he put me on hold and said he would get back to me. A few minutes later he returned to say that he would do as I asked. and I would get a verification from Office Depot in 2 days. It has now been nearly 2 weeks and this morning I got an email from Office Depot saying I could have my $12 dollars after spending more money at the store. So there!! Now one might ask why I bothered. I even told the gentleman if I didn't get what I wanted I would put a negative review on every site I could find. Don't come here if you have questions (Rude customer service) Recently tried calling for KICK BALLS, because they are sold and advertised all over their website. No use calling their phone, I doubt anyone wants to answer and if it's the same gentlemen who answered LINE 3 in the Tech Department, I reiterate it is REALLY no use. I politely asked if they sold kick balls. "This is an office store." In such a condescending way. Tone. Attitude. After a long day, it can be hard to speak to customers but being rude to them should never be an alternative. I asked 1 question. "It's not my problem" is a very interesting phrase. It's been years since I heard it in a store or restaurant. I heard it today. Hence this review. We all know Office Depot at Geary and Arguello is basically a deserted dump. They have a terrible time keeping employees. Maybe if they paid their people better and installed comfortable lighting they would do better. Their copiers occasionally work. I emphasize occasionally. Today I had a large copy job. The copier quit halfway through the job. The three-hole punch bin was full. When the problem was rectified, the machine wanted me to start over. The staff sort of helped me and mostly didn't. "It's not my problem," said the head of the printing department at one point. "It's not my problem"???? You are a representative of Office Depot! A customer, me, is not getting a solution to my problem! It IS your problem! "It's a Xerox problem, they supply the copiers." So there are no copier vendors in the city of San Francisco that can supply reliable copiers? There is no independent vendor that will supply quick service? I find that rather hard to believe. I would suggest that Office Depot probably found the cheapest local vendor for copiers and service, said, "Cool," and went with them. Hence their copiers work only occasionally. Today, as this problem was unfolding, I raised my voice. I regret that. My voice-raising attracted the attention of another staff person, maybe a manager. As I was storming out, my printing job not done, this person said, "Have a nice day, sir!" in full sarcasm mode. Full sarcasm mode is not what's called-for at that point. What's called for at that point is, "What can we do right now to make this right and keep you happy?" This location is going downhill fast. Used to be friendly service and a good place to shop. Although they shrunk the store to 30% of what it used to be, they usually had what I needed. Fast forward to today. The store on Harrison closed recently, and apparently that management moved out here to wreck this location. Now it seems nearly all the staff have it in for the customers, the vibe is really harsh, and it's a much more hostile place to shop. There are so many items that they sell which don't even have a price on them or on the shelf- basically you'll find yourself having to either stand in the cashier line to get a price then return, or try and find and flag down someone on the floor. It seems a lot of these employees feel stuck in this dump and it's pretty transparent. They've even closed off access to the restroom in 2023, blaming it on "Covid," of course. But wait- they also blame it on junkies leaving needles all over the place (even though the door is secured with a code and there are of staff wandering and gate keeping). I guess they don't realize there is AN ENTIRE PARKING LOT ABOVE THIS STORE for junkies to shoot up and probably have a hobo orgy without much resistance or even staff awareness. Maybe the landlord is responsible when people kill themselves upstairs? I dunno. So I guess if you want to be treated like a junkie and forced to find a place in an alley or elsewhere to deficate or urinate when the urge suddenly hits you while shopping for office supplies, tech or shipping services- this is the place! I'm sorry if the staff has been stuck with this situation, it sucks, but it creates an even bigger problem in the neighborhood by forcing people to rush out and figure something out quickly. If they were more attentive to handling pricing, customer service, or even pretending they enjoy their jobs it would be more bearable, but such is the state of late stage retailing. read more

I needed to swing by Office Depot because it was the closest place near me that sold bulk card stock. When I set out to journey over to Office Depot with a couple friends, I did not expect to stumble upon the hidden gem that was this office supply oasis. Upon entering, a warm and friendly employee welcomed us with gleeful joy behind his eyes. I would soon come to know this man by the name of Michael. But we'll get to Michael in a second. From the get go I knew that this place was not an Office Depot, but rather an Office Home. Before asking around, my friends and I tried to find the card stock for ourselves. Before long, we had gotten distracted by the balloon animal shaped stress balls and extensive pen aisle. We asked a kind woman at the front about the card stock and she helped us set on the right path towards aisle 10. Then it was time to check out. We came for card stock, and we ended up with that and SO much more. A stress ball, a pill organizer, a pack of gum, acrylic paint, and even a square mobile POS scanner. Every need: met. For context, a friend and I are preparing to sell at a craft fair this weekend. We were discussing our pricing and inventory plans while Michael was helping her check out and I was patiently waiting my turn. He enthusiastically chimed in to contribute to our conversation and inquired about what we were going to be selling. You could tell the interest was genuine as he had a smile on his face the whole time. As we told him all about us and the kind of things we design, his face lit up with excitement for us. Another sales associate came to check me out and helped me with a price tag issue while Michael helped my friend sign up for the rewards program (good thing too - we definitely will be coming back!) Once we'd both checked out, we dreaded having to leave. It'd felt like we just spent the night catching up with old friends over a couple drinks. We thanked Michael and his coworker for their help and wished them the best. As the automatic doors (I don't remember if they were automatic but this place was so luxurious my brain is filling in that mental gap) opened, we couldn't help but share a collective grin at the incredible service and warmth we'd just experienced. I'd give 6 stars for this wonderful store if I could. If you live in the richmond area, you must do yourself a favor and spend even just a couple minutes with Michael and the rest of the all-star staff that reside at the Geary Office Depot. read more

"Excuse me sir, is there a reason you're going into the women's bathroom?" It wasn't so much the question as much as the tone and overall aggressive demeanor of the employee here. I had to pee quite badly, and I'd just seen someone go into the men's. I suspected the bathrooms were single occupancy, and the men's restroom would therefore be locked. I had peered into the women's to check first if it was, in fact, a single toilet -- also if it was free and empty. This isn't the first, second, or even fifteenth time I've done this. I do this all the time when I need to go. I asked the employee if he knew what gender neutral restrooms are. "I'm just trying to keep the women safe if that's alright with you," he pretty flippantly said as I went into the men's restroom. Cool, this employee is a black man. I am a gay one in sequins and a pretty flamboyant voice. So if it's alright with you, Office Depot, I'm thinking about my safety pretty often, too. Not that it really is any of your business. But from one minority to another: this wasn't discrimination, but your behavior was pretty brazenly in poor taste. Made worse by the fact that I'm pretty sure he was following me around like I was going to steal something. As I was over getting envelopes, he speaks in his headpiece in my aisle, "I'm on it," and then starts picking up different envelope boxes and putting them back down as I shop around him. I'm sorry you have to work at this shitty store. And hon, I'm a journalist - also an active Yelper and an outspoken complainer. I'm sorry you made my day bad. Maybe I can return the favor? As for the store - the experience was fine. I've only ever been in here a handful of times. It's big and has what I need. I am very behind on a project and decided to shop here for supplies instead of going on Amazon. The price was about double as it is there. The store was generally empty of customers. Terrible service at printing department. I had a very disturbing situation with a person name Caitlin Bernard, she is super rude and unprofessional. When I came to pick up my prints , one day later then scheduled, her excuse on my never processed order was - "We are underpaid and overworked here.." and to make it worse, instead of apologizing she yelled across the table that I can take my prints somewhere else.. I called on manager but he didn't seems to care much about the situation... Probably one of the biggest attitude stores I have been to. All I wanted was three gift cards on separate credit cards so I can get my points on those cards, and it's not like I kept insisting I just asked once, but they made a big fuss as if I was some scam artist and pretty much treated me like a criminal and I was in their way. I was going to Kinko's on Stanyan Street to use the photocopy machines for copies, scanning and emailing, but the lines are always so long just to get in due to covid. I took a chance and went to Office Max/Office Depot located on Arguello and Geary (just a few blocks away) to see if they had the same service. YUP! They sure do and there's parking as well. There are NO LINES and the instructions are easier to understand than Kinko's. I needed to blowup a picture 30"x32" and found this service also available at OM/OD. CORY helped me. I'm not very tech savvy, but Cory took the time and his patience got the job done. He made it work like cake. Thank you, Cory!!! You rock!!! So, if you need a blowup picture, do not stop.
