Love this place. Everyone who works there is friendly and in my opinion they make the best bar food in Seattle, and probably the best fried mozzarella I've had anywhere. The fried chicken sandwich is made in house and is completely amazing and fresh. And of course the bar and patio are great too. I love the Twilight! And I love dive bars. The difference between normal dive bars and the Twilight is that the place has an awesome atmosphere (love the vintage hanging lamps) AND, the big surprise for a dive bar...wonderful food. If you are looking for quaint hand holding service, then stay in Belltown. Yes, there does seem to be a lot of hipsters here, which I appropriately dinged their rating by 1 star. The servers serve good and strong drinks, and if they aren't too busy to talk are really quite nice. I am a pretty blandly dressed individual, and I never get the feeling of being judged on my "cool" factor - they are always pretty decent. They treat pretty much everyone the same. There service is always fast and good and direct. This is our favorite Happy Hour place. Every time I leave here, I always feel full and happy, and my pocket book is too. This is my 2nd Yelp review since 2006! Yea, I guess I've been slackin'. It's hard for me to believe the negative reviews some of you wrote about this joint. This place is great! Definitely one of my favorite bars in Seattle. Service is always great. Yes, you do have to line up at the bar to order drinks, but I don't see why this is even an issue. It's a fuckin' bar! Erica and Hiromi are the best bartenders in Seattle. Both so sweet and always attentive. I can't say enough good things about those two. Food is awesome. They sell tater tots! Beer, Shots, Jukebox, Tator tots and arcade games! Done. Funny story: I met w/ a buddy here to celebrate my recent engagement. He gave me a hug and congratulated me. All of a sudden some random dude gets up from his bar stool, walks up to me and says "No bro hugs allowed", then looks to his buddies for approval with a "heh, right guys? I TOLD him" smirk on his face. It got awkward, so I laughed it off. Not sure if he was high or drunk. Probably both. No idea why I waited so long to try this place which is right around the corner from the house I grew up in and now another family home. Ordered food for pick up on a Saturday night and it was ready in less than 15min! I even had someone show up after I placed the original order and calling back for the second did not increase our wait time at all. Get the tots, skip the super salty frozen fries. The Twilight Burger was amazing (if you love cream cheese) and the Catfish Po' Boy fulfilled our catfish fix since our beloved Catfish Corner is gone ;( I won't complain too much about the customer service and the fact that our food did not include the side condiments that should have come with. Overall, a good takeout experience. Plus, I would like to see them stay around...It is increasingly difficult as a person of color finding a decent spot in our neighborhood to support. read more

Happy hour with $3 pints til' 8?! A mountain of Greek fries with feta and fresh oregano?! Easy walking distance for most of the central district?! Love it. Always an interesting mix of people- teachers meeting after school, bike messengers, hipster kids and old timers. Feels a bit like the basement of that one kid you used to hang out with in high school- wood paneling, Scorpions or Pixies on the jukebox, mismatched chairs- it all works. Had a late dinner there on a Saturday night. We ordered the fried mozzarella and the buffalo chicken sandwich. The buffalo checked sandwich was better than the fried mozzarella. The fried mozzarella wasn't anything special, but they give you a lot. The drinks were good and cheap! We had 2 beers for $4 a piece. We would definitely go there again! read more

I've been here before, had a great time. But, don't get the wings. The buffalo sauce is tasty, but they served up basically a whole chicken. Not party wings, but everything still attached. $11.99 for 6 whole wings, in a really thin sauce, and served without napkins. How are you supposed to eat this thing, in a bar, in the dark? And how is this bar food? It's barbaric to tear apart a whole chicken wing. By the end of it I was dripping in sauce, and had to get my own napkins. Never again. read more

Their happy hour was so effective that I drunk bawled on the bus ride home. No really, I did. This tells me two things: 1) their pours are ridiculously strong and 2) I'm embarrassing. Bonuses apart from ridiculous booze-fueled sobbing: cheap as all get-out, pinball, a general we-converted-our-grandma's-living-room-into-a-bar vibe, and a squid & whale mural in the alley entrance. My first year living in Seattle I shared a crappy apartment with three other girls about a block away from Twilight. Being that I can't do anything in the kitchen besides start fires, I spent a lot of time at Twilight eating, drinking and being merry. So lets start the twilight parade: Drinks: when I first moved here 2.5 years ago the well drinks were only $2.50 during happy hour. now they've gone up to $3, but its still great!! Especially since the happy hour extends to 8pm EVERYDAY (what other bar has happy hour until 8 everyday?) and the bartenders (in my experience) seem to have very heavy hands! I usually just get well drinks but as I recall their are several selections of beer on tap and they always have PBR for cheap. Food: My favorite thing about the food menu are the burgers!! I'm a vegetarian so this is kind of strange. Twilight has a large selection of burgers (peanut butter burger, bleu cheese, something with cream cheese and peppers, etc) and they can put a veggie patty on any burger. I've never actually eaten beef (that I can remember) so this is an awesome substitute for me, I don't really know what I'm missing. The burgers all come with your choice of a side. You can choose a side salad, coleslaw, fires, other things I forget and TOTS! That brings me to my next point. The tots are AMAZING!!! I could eat a whole serving even if I'm full. In fact I think once in my very young 20s I did in fact eat a whole serving of tots after throwing up for 48 hours straight after an intense night of citrus flavored vodka. Yes, tots helped to put an end to the worst hangover of my life. Needles to say the tots are magical. The fish sandwich is another favorite of mine. It is a little dry and I don't know about the bread choice (I think its white) but it always satisfies my appetite. Twilight has good soup too, the selection changes but all the soups I've had I've been very happy with. Lastly, twilight has an awesome patio in which dogs are more then welcome to hang out on. SELLING POINT!! There is nothing I love more then a warm summer day on the patio with my dog as she begs for some tots and I slip into a whirlwind of intoxication. GREAT TIMES. There's a ping pong table outside too. I think the patio closes early (like 8 or 9) but then its dark and everyone's ready to play big buck hunt! Did I mention twilight has big buck hunt? I fell in love with the Twilight 12 years ago when it was on Madison. Weekend nights, I avoid it given the crowd changes from diverse mix of neighborhood folks to 20-somethings with more money than sense, but any other time, it's still the best bar in town. The perfect summer day is swimming at Madrona Beach followed by burgers and beer on the Twilight patio. Perfect weeknight haunt when my partner and I need to shake off a crappy workday with a beer and a shot and a sandwich. Perfect bar to sit alone at the bar drinking whiskey and doing crosswords. This will quickly turn into one of my favorite bars in this neighborhood. I love the old round-about mini Cheers-style bar area. If you add that to the high quality food selection (from burgers to a beets salad), music, ecclectic trophy collection, karaoke night, and the magic shows (on Wednesday nights, I believe...check out all of the cards up on the ceiling), this place is quite cool. I disagree that this place is a typical dive bar. It's actually somewhere between a dive bar and a gastro pub. But, it's been cleaned off and summer is coming people. Some friends and I swung through for some of the awesome chicken wings and Olympia tall boys after church the other day and sat on the patio. I hate that we come here. But it's so close. Happy hour is great. Food is decent. But I can't take it anymore. It makes me very angry that the owner brings his dog in and doesn't pay any attention to him while he wanders from table to table begging for food and scratching nonstop like he has fleas. It's not like people don't eat here that often. Almost everyone is eating when we go. And I'd really like to enjoy the back patio, but everyone smokes out there (Why wouldn't they? There's an ashtray on every table.) and there are even more dogs wandering around. I also get to watch the kitchen staff stand just outside the kitchen door smoking every 5 minutes. Tasty. Last night's bartender had his hands all over the drink garnishes (olives in a customer's martini) after handling cash. Gross. One star for super booze value. The second star goes to the old fart magician there on Wednesdays. He's pretty amazing. I'd like to say we won't go back, but I know it won't matter. It's always packed. And I like cheap alcohol. I'm sure we'll be back for the heavy pours, but it will really piss me off! read more

We have been here a few times now, new to the neighborhood and thought this would be our new go-to local business! In less than a month, we've spent a lot of money here and even brought them new business, introducing our friends. Well, in a month we have learned their true selves and will never return and neither will our friends, and I'd suggest you stay away as well. We normally have gone in and spent good money on drinks etc, tipped really well or ordered to-go food directly with them and picked up orders ourselves. Tonight, my partner was sick so we ordered with grubhub. Somehow, the grubhub driver canceled our delivery, even tho Twilight had made the food. So we called Grubhub and got refunded automatically, and asked why our order was cancelled. Grubhub explained that the driver simply canceled the order for whatever reason. Ok fine. We still wanted to place our order and were told to simply reorder with grubhub. So we called Twilight to explain grubhubs misstep. We told twilight we were going to place another order, and just wanted to make sure the order was going to be made again fresh. We were told that they would not be making the food again fresh. We couldn't quite understand why, since they would be getting paid by grubhub twice since it was grubhubs initial mistake. By the time we would have to place another order and wait for another driver to pick up, the food would definitely not be fresh or hot still, especially after having waited on hold with grubhub in the interim to resolve the first order. As we explained this to Twilight, Dave (from Twilight) kept saying they would not make another order fresh, even tho we were placing a second order. WHAT?!? That doesn't even make sense. My partner was speaking with Dave, and passed me the phone because he couldn't believe how rude he was being spoken to. I got on the phone with Dave to explain the situation and wanted to make sure twilight would indeed be paid by grubhub twice since we were placing a replacement order at grubhubs expense and error. Dave kept going back and forth with me and said "I feel like I'm sounding like a dick here..." and I said "yeah you are...I simply want to order fresh food and make sure your restaurant is taken care of too, win-win". Dave explained the only way they would make the order again fresh is if grubhub called them directly to confirm the situation. They are probably busy at the restaurant and we are hungry so I don't mind going out of our way. So I told him I would call grubhub and get that taken care of so all parties are amicable. We then call grubhub and confirm with grubhub that the restaurant would not be taking a loss and would be paid twice and asked them to call Twilight to confirm all those details. Our call is escalated to a manager and they call Twilight and confirm everything. Cool. Problem solved, right? WRONG. We call twilight again to make sure grubhub called and sorted it out with them. Yes grubhub did call but again twilight refused to make the reorder fresh for us. Couldn't believe it. Then Dave HANGS UP on my partner. We call back and ask for the manager and spoke with Stephan. Stephan goes on to tell my partner that I called Dave a dick. Which is not true. Dave called himself a dick, and I agreed. Lol. So I get on the phone. Steven then says "I was standing right next to Dave. Oh yeah! You're right. It WAS Dave that called himself a dick" lol. This is just ridiculous. He said to place the order with him directly and to come pick it up ourselves. We reminded him the reason we used grubhub was because my partner is sick. And we weren't happy with the rude service from Dave. Steven then says "what do you want me to do? Fire him on the spot?" And I asked "why are you making the problem with grubhub and the problem with Dave my problem? We are trying to support your business and you're making it like it's OUR PROBLEM." Makes no damn sense. Stephan says "look we are just talking in circles here I don't know what you want me to do".... gee, I dunno, maybe apologize for his staff being so rude and hanging up on a customer and MAKE A FRESH ORDER? Keep your word, since you asked us to call grubhub to have them call you and confirm all this only to again be told you won't make fresh food? We wasted a good 20 minutes with grubhub to make sure it was fair to twilight EVEN THO IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH US AND TO PROTECT TWILIGHT so I just simply told him we won't ever be coming back and neither will our friends ... whatever. Like he cares. We love supporting our local businesses, but not businesses that self proclaim to be dicks, and back it up with horrible service. Even Stephan was stumbling and backtracking and passed it off as a "long day". We all have long days, but that's no excuse to be a dick to regular customers. Lame as hell. Poor excuse for a small business owner. Don't go here. Plenty of other places that are happy to keep the neighborhood alive. This place just suuuckkksss. read more

Cheap drinks, strong pours, sassy staff and solid food. I don't know what else you could really hope for except for a closer location that doesn't include being followed to my bus stop by nefarious ne'er do wells. I don't think I've ever walked out of here sober and typically I'm not spending much more than 20 bucks, so well done. Very poor customer service! I was refused a soda and water from this bar.. I'm an Australian citizen sight seeing and was part of my cousins bicycle group which stopped here for a food and drinks break. The staff crossed the line of decency when I asked for a glass of coke (no alcohol), then asked for ID. I only had my Australian drivers license with me, which showed my age as 29. They then refused me the non alcoholic soda. I asked for a glass of water and they even refused that! A simple glass of coke for a thirsty traveller? Not here! All out of towners should give this place a miss.. There's plenty of awesome bars in Seattle that aren't worshippers of bad government rules.. Such as the Kangaroo and Kiwi.. This place was a great change of pace from our usual Big Time Brewery/Duchess hang-out. It feels like you're in your big sisters really cool hip basement, the bartender was incredibly nice, they had interesting local beer that I'd never had before, and I felt at home the whole time. It seemed like the kind of place where 90% of the people are regulars...but I wasn't a regular and I still felt welcome. Minus one star for being not in a convenient location to my house...however, it is near Ezell's, so now I have multiple reasons to come hang out in the Central District. read more

I used to go to this place, loved it, when it was located on Madison ten years ago. So I was a little concerned when I heard it moved. It's hard to make a killer place better. But it holds up pretty well at the new location. It doesn't have the same 1970s living room-feel it used to (there are no cats or old globes that I could see). Now it feels more like a comfortable, dark Seattle rock bar, which is cool. Awesome jukebox. read more
