Talk about a hidden gem! My husband and I spent his birthday weekend just up the road at the "Live…read moreA Little Chatt" tiny home village, and Canyon Grill came highly recommended by our Airbnb hosts. After a lovely celebratory meal, I can absolutely see why! Reservations are recommended, though I'm sure you'd be able to walk in and grab a table. We were seated in the main dining room, which is bright and upscale without being stuffy. If you're wondering about the dress code, this is a very casual spot. Shorts and polos for men would be absolutely fine, and a top with jeans or even shorts would be just fine for women too. That said, you can totally dress up if you would like! The menu is simple, with classic dishes prepared expertly. We started with some of their house bread, which is served warm with whipped butter. Yum! We also got an order of the chopped romaine salad, which was served with fresh garden tomatoes. For entrees, my husband ordered their signature dish: the "Slash and Burn" catfish. It's fried in a seasoned batter, and served whole with some fun garnishes. The fish itself was flaky and cooked to perfection. I ordered the 9 oz. filet, which was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Seriously, this was one of the best steaks I've had in a hot minute! For sides, we shared the garlic mashed potatoes and some more better boy tomatoes. You do get a free dessert on your birthday, and my husband chose their ice cream sundae. If this wasn't the best restaurant sundae ... the ice cream itself tasted housemade, and when we asked our server if it was, she said it's not, but it is a special brand from Belgium. Wow!

For appetizers, we had the Spicy Feta Dip with warm, soft bread, and Fried Mushrooms topped with White Truffle Oil and served with Horseradish Sauce. Absolutely amazing!!!! For my entrée, I went with their signature dish... the Slash and Burn Catfish. WOW... crazy good! Great flavor and fried to perfection. You actually use a spoon to scrape the meat off the fish. This is a must-have dish! Others in our group that weren't feeling as adventurous enjoyed the Chicken Piccata, Grilled Shrimp, Sautéed Triggerfish, and steak, all were excellent. Pro tip: Save room for dessert!! We got the Strawberry Shortcake, which is a MUST HAVE, and the Amaretto Brownie, which was pretty great too! The service was amazing and very attentive throughout the meal. So, if you live in the Chattanooga area or are just visiting, what are you waiting for? This is a must-try place!

We then decided to go ahead and order, go explore the area a bit, and come back and pick it up. Go back in and proceed to order. She says "it's really only 25-30 mins tops. Nothing stood out for any reason. Pulled meats dry and bland. Both chicken and pork. Brisket was ok. Beans had a funny taste. C liked the potato salad. Sausage was meh. Onion rings from a clear bag. Pickles too. Fake butter bread. Sauce was sugar-sweet. Not a fan. No thanks. No more for me. '26 - 125

It just looks more like a bar rather than a place that would serve high quality fresh meals. Everything was clean and the service was great. We got a high top in the bar area and they had a high chair that was tall enough for our son to reach the table. It was great! We ordered the caesar salad to start.... made perfectly. Then we got our entrees. Pictured below.... Both exceeded our expectations! We got our son the kids buttered noodles and he ate a lot of my chicken that I ordered. Great dinner and we ALL highly recommend!

On a recent trip to the area, we decided to stop here for lunch after reading the great Yelp…read morereviews. I must admit that the reviews were spot on. Everything about this experience was top-notch! From being seated quickly upon entering, to explaining how the ticket validation thing worked (more info at the end), customer service was some of the best I've been shown. The ambiance is chic but casual-great for both cozy date night or fun family night. Our server was so friendly and patient as we asked questions about the menu. I ordered the grilled salmon with spicy crab remoulade and my guy ordered the smoked wings with a side of fries. I was happy that I was able to select my own sides from the ones on the menu so I opted for the fried Brussels sprouts with maple and bacon and the buttermilk whipped potatoes. After a short wait, our food was brought out. This was truly one of the best salmon dishes I have ever eaten! The salmon was cooked to my liking, the potatoes were soft and fluffy and the fried Brussels sprouts were absolutely divine and perfect. The remoulade was a little salty but it may have been just been my taste. The potatoes helped with that so it was not a deal breaker. My guy was pleased with his food as well and I could tell he enjoyed everything he ate. We agreed that we would take this trip back just to eat this meal again. It was truly a wonderful experience, from beginning to end. I highly recommend trying this gem out! Pro Tip: The restaurant validates parking. If you park in the lot across the street, do not prepay on the app or online. Ask the servers at the front to validate to save the $18 parking fee before you order and within 15 minutes after entering. Unfortunately, we didn't do this and the restaurant cannot reimburse the money after you've already paid. You've been warned!

As you walk in the door, you are welcomed in to a cozy little space with 6-8 tables. The room is covered from floor to ceiling in wood paneling and makes for a very warm and homey feeling. From a cleanliness standpoint, you could eat off the floor. The menu was broad and contained all sorts of Southern favorites, ranging from BBQ pork, to smoked chicken, to seafood, to burgers, to hotdogs. All of the items were extremely reasonably priced with large sandwiches around $4.50, full dinner plates for around $8.50, and kids meals for around $3.50. As seafood seemed to be their specialty, I went with the fried catfish plate. It came with two sides, so I chose fried okra and slaw. I also received 4 hush puppies as part of my meal as well. The meal came with 5 large strips of fresh catfish, masterfully breaded in a light cornmeal batter and perfectly fried. Catfish can often have an overpowering flavor, but this catfish was incredibly mild. The fried okra, hush puppies, and slaw were delectable and well portioned. Couple that with a legit sweet tea and I was all in $8.95. My wife had a smoked chicken sandwich that was truly unique. Normally smoked chicken is of the shredded variety; this was whole slices of chicken breast. The chicken had a great taste and was served with a unique hot sauce that perfectly complimented the chicken and slaw that was served on top of the sandwich. Total - $4.50. In summary, J's Hole in the Wall was a great choice. They served delicious food at a great value with a smile. You could tell this was a locals' place as almost everyone there seemed to be a regular. If you are on I-24 passing between Nashville and Chattanooga, this place is worth a short detour!
