So it's early , not going to lie just wanted to get a card for a possible future visit . This lady was persistent about making me a burger or something before I left so I insisted go ahead. That's fine when I got this burger. This burger was so good. I'm here now to tell y'all I will be back at this place for sure for a second round now the kicker I did not know I was talking to one of the owners of the restaurant when she made my burger. I found that out after the fact, so when I tell you that place is worth going to is worth going to and plus it's got a pool table thank you guys. Very nice to meet you ladies I'll be back. read more

I ordered from Merv's for pick up. They did not have the complete order which I didn't figure out until I got home. They missed a BLT and fried pickles which is a whole order for one in our group. I called to inform them that it was missing and they apologized but I asked them to deliver because I couldn't come back down the mountain. They refused so I asked for a refund. We will see if that comes through. Well, on to the food, it's very greasy .....way too greasy. I'm so disappointed because when we went to pick it up, they were not that busy. It wasn't packed. I know I should have checked the order but what happens to trusting they know their craft and how to complete a full order when it's paid for already......just disappointed all around. read more

The building reeks of mildew so strongly that I can't eat there without getting a pounding headache. Ordering food to go is annoying. I've ordered to-go about six times and they have yet to get an order right. If you do place a to-go order sure to check everything in your bag before you leave the building. Our to go order was terrible. We ordered burgers without mustard, all had mustard, toppings were old/past their good by date. Bun was old and crumbled, burger cold and dry. Onion rings were cold, chewy and tasted like old grease. I believe they were leftover from the day before. Definitely not what Merv's used to be. Shocked at how bad it was. Expensive and inedible. I so much wanted to love this place. Looks like a great place to shoot pool and have a beer with friends. But the burger I got was almost inedible. Burned to a crisp on the outside, hard and dry on the inside. Shriveled to less than 1/2 the size of the bun, it was like trying to eat a golf ball. First and last time at Merv's. read more

The appetizers was amazing we got the stuffed jalapeño peppers and The fried mushrooms the ranch and the home made honey mustard was so yummy the came out fresh and hot !!! Merv's has been around for a long time because their food is consistent. They have a good menu selection for everything fried. The fried mushrooms are really good and so are the onion rings! I get the lil Merv burger and find it plenty for me. I generally pair it with one of the side items just mentioned and I'm happy. They also have chicken sandwiches , fried bologna and hotdogs. People of all ages come here. A large selection of bottled and draft beers and they also have their own parking lot. A game room is in the back. read more

Went for a Sunday mid-afternoon burger. Always loved this place, but today left us very disappointed. First, meal of two burgers and sides took 45 mts to come. Waitress was nice enough overall, but never came by to tell us what was happening. We had to go to her. Hubby's came out 10 mts after mine. Onion rings cold. Asked to drop them a few seconds more in deep fryer. Came back hot, but super greasy. Hubby's tomato and onion cut so thick (which makes burger look super big) made it impossible to keep everything from sliding out. Tater tots tasteless. I had water. Still charged combo price on both meals, with both upcharged for rings and tots. Knew rings were higher; nothing on menu about tots being higher too. So, over $35 for two burgers, greasy and tasteless, frozen sides and a tea, that took almost an hour to get. What's happened to this place? read more

Waited 1 hour as people around us that came in later was served. Question waitress she stated it's on the way 15 minutes later I ask to pay for our drinks and skip the food. She said they are fixing it now, thru the window the cook said I'm dropping it now - forget it. An hour and a half for a burger shaking my head..... yes it was Sunday but upon entering the two big party's were served. I think you forgot us... shame on you. Merv's gets a thumbs down. Not-so-good food at super high prices. For a burger, fries and drink you'll end up spending about $20 (including tip). There are far better restaurants in Hamilton County that won't leave you feeling you have been ripped off. read more

It's been awhile since I've been to Merv's as it's on the other side of town from me. It's not much changed in the last decade and still serves a decent burger. Burgers are served their way, no customizations, but are tasty nonetheless. I had tots as my side, while my wife had the onion rings, and our dining companions had the house made chips. I'm usually pretty wary of places that claim to have the best, well, anything and it's usually for good reason. Merv's was no exception and it took me over 5 years to finally build up the courage to step inside. Unfortunately, despite all the glowing reviews I've read on Yelp, it confirmed my fears. I ordered a Merv Burger "Our Way" and a soft drink and my food was brought out within a few minutes. Even after seeing some of the photos on here, the portions surprised me. The photos don't do it justice. With a burger the diameter of a Whopper piled high with fresh veggies and fries that could fill a small lunch bag, I thought I was in for quite a treat. Instead, what I got was a mixed bag. The fries were a fried nice golden brown and crispy but while they were delicious and perfectly seasoned, I wish I could say the same for the burger. All the ingredients in the burger were fresh and delicious but the beef, the crown jewel of the burger, was just... bland. I broke off a piece of the patty to make sure it wasn't being overpowered by the vegetables or the condiments and... nope. I was just a giant piece of unseasoned beef. It's really disappointing because it would have been a great meal otherwise. Although the place seems a bit divey and messy, the wait staff was friendly and responsive. My server, Emily, was great. She made sure my drink was topped off and even gave me a to-go cup after my meal without me even asking. In the background, I overheard a few other staff members talking to some regulars. It just has an overall familiar casual feel to the place. Looking at all the other reviews, I don't think I'm going to let this one experience ruin it for me though. This would be a great place for a .5. One of our new friends recommended Merv's and with the bold claim of "Tennessee's Greatest Burger" we're down for the challenge of seeing if that claim holds. Well.... maybe I'm a lucky gal who's had the pleasure of dining on some REALLY great burgers. Some of these delish burgers were even in the Chattanooga area! Merv's gave us a perfectly A-OK lunch. It was even OK.5 if you ask me. A local place that looks to have been around for a while, no frills and a casual flair for an A-OK burger. Good fries and a nice offering of starters. Prices were fair, service was friendly. So.... I can't honestly get behind the claim of the "greatest" but then again, like everything in this great world it's subjective and I'm sure that there are many out there that do think it's the greatest and we can still be friends. read more

I've heard about Merv's over the years but never tried it. The person mentioning it either hates it or loves it. Today I decided to find out for myself. The verdict : I like it. It's got its own character. If Five Guys made a Burger King Whopper it would probably be very similar to Merv's Burger. They've got arcade games, billiards, and serve beer to keep you warm on the inside. The place is a bit of a dive, probably in need of a deep cleaning. But, I suppose that's part of the ambiance this side of the mountain. I got the 5oz Lil Merv burger, their way (mustard, mayo, lettuce, onion, and tomato)with the optional onion rings for an extra buck. The burger meat was freshly cooked and had a good flavor. You could tell it was cooked on a flat top cuz man o man was it a greasy bugger. The onion rings were a bit over cooked and dry. If you're pretentious this may not be the place for you. Quite disappointed to say Merv's didn't live up to the hype we had heard about it. My first qualm is that Yesterday we put in for takeout (lil Merv's burger, lil Merv's patty melt, the fried okra app and the chili cheese fries app). When we got to the register to pay it was over $30 when the 4 menu items we got were all $5 on the menu in the restaurant. $10 extra for choosing takeout? No thank you :( had we realized that/been told our total on the phone we would've just cancelled and had lunch there. Besides that, I had been told my many friends that we had to try their okra. That it was long cut and stood up to sing it or wing it's okra appetizer. When I got back to the car I realized it was just plain old okra that heavily lacked seasoning. They were however hot and crispy! Overall my food was realistically okay and tasted alright. But with the unwanted surprises in price/consistency and with the food just being fine, I don't intend on returning unless a group of friends were to go. If you choose Merv's for dinner, make sure to ask plenty of questions and dine in if you want to take advantage of the actual menu prices. read more

First impression is that the building looks like it might be an adult store. Getting past that, the food was great! The menu is pretty basic mostly centered on burgers and sandwiches with other fried foods to supplement. All four of us loved our burgers. I got onion rings and they were some of the best with the perfect balance of breading to onion. We will be back again. read more

Merv's good is still great, and I will absolutely return. However, the quality of service has declined. Our server last night was short with us and borderline rude. She rushed us with every question she asked, asking us if we were ready to order as soon as we sat down, then returning less than two minutes later doing the same. Once we received our food, it was nearly impossible to track her down for a refill. Our table was out of napkins, and I ended up hunting some down at another table because we didn't see her for a while As I said, I will still go back, and the food was delicious as always (bacon cheese fries and the patty melt--yum!). We hit Merv's about once a month. First of all they have Shiner Bock on tap.... YESSSS! Merv's is not the coziest place, it's a lot of metal and concrete which is fine but it feels cold and echoey. They have several tvs, we've been there to watch a Tennessee game and everyone was into it which always makes for a fun time. My kids who are 14 and 21 really like coming here because they have a couple pool tables, darts and video games. So burgers.... This is a great burger, I have a couple places that trump the Merv burger, but my 14 year old votes it the best. They are not quick service, they hand form the patties (I guess as ordered) so be prepared to wait a bit. We like to order and then play a game of pool with the boys and enjoy our Shiner and that usually plays out perfectly for food delivery! read more

This is the second time I have been to this out of the way restaurant that is known for its burgers. First time I wasn't I. The mood for a burger, so had a grilled chicken. I remember it being good, but nothing to write home about. This time I went with the buyer/fries combo. Had cheese and sautéed onions on it. No mayo, mustard or pickle. Our meals took quite some time to arrive and our server was young and inexperienced, but pleasant. Food was hot, flavorful and plenty of it. Dining area and restrooms are dated. Seating not very comfortable and the restaurant was cold with ceiling fans on. Mind you the day was cold and rainy, so it was not hot out. Cold restaurants make your food cold quick and I have to say his is a pet peeve of mine. However the flavor and cost will bring me back for sure! read more
