Fire on the Mountain Burger
Craig G.

Quite good and affordable. I'm leery of amusement park food, but our entire party of six enjoyed all of our meals. Service was quick and we had a nice view next to the window. I had the bacon cheddar melt with fries, the latter were nicely seasoned with a crust. My wife had the chili and a hotdog and onions. My son-in-law had the Fire on the Mountain burger, which he said was not a spicy as it had sounded. The grandkids both had chicken nuggets and fries, while my daughter had a cheeseburger and fries. It's a shame that it is behind the ticket turnstiles as it would be a worthy option while visiting the other mountain top attractions.

This is my lunch. Nothing....

Waited almost an hour then left without our food. Legend has it that if you ask for #968, you can get my $40 order, free. Enjoy.

Rock City's Big Rock Grill

Rock City's Big Rock Grill on Lookout Mountain is a great spot to stop for well made burgers and sandwiches that is convenient when you are hungry. Everything here is delicious and flavorful and a relatively good value. I like the atmosphere of the restaurant and the relaxed and laid back feel. They are definitely worth a stop for quality food.

Decorated for Christmas.

Bring a book because you will need it while you wait for your food. A pillow might not be a bad idea.

It was really hard to decide on a rating for our experience. We were super excited to try the 1885…read moreGrill while in town. We went early in the afternoon on a weekday, so it was very quiet. It was also a beautiful day so we sat on the patio. I love that they work with local organizations for fresh vegetables and meat! Our waiter was very nice and fairly attentive. But the food... For the good - the crab cake was delicious. It was like all crab meat with no filler and was very tasty. The pimento cheese was also SO yummy. You could tell it was made fresh and had a great flavor. The pita it came with was fine, a little over-grilled. I was not crazy about the fried okra. I wish the pieces weren't just cut in half, because to me they had that slimy okra texture inside. My gf said they weren't THAT bad, but I really had to push myself to eat them. The rosemary fries have a great flavor and were crispy (I prefer thicker fries but my gf enjoyed these). I LOVE mac and cheese and was super excited to try theirs. It was very creamy and had a good flavor but there was way too much cheese for the amount of noodles. Like the ratio was pretty off. Now for THE issue. My gf ordered the Filet Mignon, medium. It came raw and without the blue cheese compound butter. By the time the waiter came to check on us, I was half done eating. He took the steak to be put back on the grill and brought it back with a bowl of crumbled blue cheese. It was still raw inside. He brought us extra fries, but by the time it came back I was done eating. She asked for it to go and it was STILL RAW. She had cut it, so it was super obvious if you looked. The manager came and talked to us and they took it off the bill, but for a $40 filet mignon it should not take 3 tries to cook it right and it still not really be right. She said there are cold spots on the grill and they're training a new line cook, but it was not a good look... I'd maybe give more of a pass if they were packed, but there was no one eating inside and maybe two other tables of folks outside.

They were okay, but for 5 bucks...what do you expect?‍. I would say the accompanying butter was supposed to be honey butter, but it seemed like regular butter to me! The server was polite, but I was scratching my head because she started with---"Let me go see what's not available anymore." Shouldn't she have done that before speaking to us?? The atmosphere is relaxed, but there isn't much to the decor. It was just casual.... there was brown butcher paper on top of white table cloths...kind of tacky really. It was busy, however, which added to the noise. Hubby and I both ordered the 1885 burger. Now, we are talkin'! The burger was delicious! . It was juicy and tasty. Just an all around fantastic burger. This alone is what will bring me and hubby back. The loaded baked potato was standard, but good too. It sounds like this experience wasn't great, but like I said, the burger alone is enough to go back to enjoy.

Every one of the sides looks so good and fresh that I wanted to get each one of them just to try it! The fish was cooked perfectly and was nice and tender. The added little muffin I didn't expect was a nice touch and delicious. The collard greens were SO GOOD. I'd get them again. So flavorful and cooked well. The beets were fresh and the goat cheese carried so much flavor. For the desserts, we got the carrot cake with pecans and chocolate cheesecake. Both were soooo good. I would get both of them again, especially the carrot cake which was so warm and moist. And the candied pecans were such a nice complement to the cake - not too sweet at all. The ambience is super nice and fresh, and our server was so sweet and engaging. The hostess as well. Everybody there was so nice and welcoming. Hunter recommended adding Pepper Jack cheese and Bacon, as well as the Brussels Sprouts with Maple & Bacon. Everything was wonderful. There were way too many Brussels sprouts. It also would have been nice if they were cut into smaller pieces. They had a special dessert of Blackberry Cobbler with Vanilla Ice Cream. This brought back childhood memories of my grandmother's cobblers. My husband had the Brownie with Vanilla Ice Cream.

Our waitress was prompt and answered our questions. I was happy to see they had gluten free bread/buns. I ordered the Whisky and onion smash burger on a gluten free bun and it was so good I tried to replicate the topping with what I had back at the Airbnb we were staying at. When I get home I'll check out the ingredients better and give it another try. I had a side of green beans nicely seasoned with bacon as my side. My husband, bless his heart, ordered the honey pecan chicken salad sandwich on gluten free bread so I could taste it. It was also delicious and he had a side of home fries to die for. We would definitely come back and try more of their menu if in the area again.
