On a work-related trip I had the chance to visit Croft at McLemore & was very pleased. First, there was happy hour where Summer took good care of us at the bar. Then, Victoria (primarily) did a fine job keeping up with our large group. It had gotten dark so didn't get full advantage of the nice view but the rustic feel inside was appropriate. I started with the tomato soup which had an interesting dollop of crab meat in the middle to jazz it up. Some got the bacon instead as first course & it was good (sans the jalapeño for me). My main course choice was the broiled snapper with mashed sweet potatoes & beans. Very tasty (though the sides might have been warmer). To close, a very nice pecan pie tartlet, I'll call it with ample whipped cream - right up my alley! read more

We are staying at the resort so it was very convenient to have dinner at this restaurant. We did make reservations at a time. The service was excellent. We ended up sharing a salad, which was delicious. It was had the perfect amount of dressing on it. We ended up splitting the bacon appetizer. The bacon was delicious the little biscuits that came with it were not my favorite. We ended up splitting the flounder which was absolutely positively stuffed with crab meat. It was so delicious. It was a smaller size portion, but we did split it and it was perfect enough because it was so buttery and delicious. We ended up getting a dessert because we were celebrating our 33rd wedding anniversary and we ended up splitting the fried apple pie, which I could've licked the plate. It was so delicious. It was a lovely evening. We sat out on the patio. Great food great service. It was really a special night. Everyone said happy anniversary is to us which made it extra special. Croft restaurant at Cloudland at McLemore was the only thing disappointing about the magical resort atop Lookout Mountain. We were there for Thanksgiving, and spent over $600 on our meal, and it was quite average. The seating was especially disappointed as we had made our reservations well in advance and were seated in a makeshift area at a conference room table with conference room chairs that were not comfortable. There were two giant TVs playing a football game right by our table. Unlike the rest of Cloudland, this indeed was not magical unless you were wanting to celebrate Thanksgiving in a sports bar. We went back for breakfast the following day and ordered a shareable breakfast board that was noted to come with biscuits, ham, salami, and pimento cheese, which sounded delicious. However, rather than biscuits, the board came with tiny rolls that were too small to serve as a vessel for any of the items in the board (and definitely not biscuits). Nothing about Croft worthy of its stunning location within the Cloudland resort. read more

It's located in a nice resort type hotel. The resort was decorated beautifully for Christmas. There weren't a lot of dining options available during our trip and this was open. This is not a review of the food. We won't be back. Not to this hotel either. Need to understand you are a part of a Hilton hotel - one and the same. If I don't want to eat in the hotel restaurant bc of your attitude, then I don't need to spend money to stay here period. I was having a nice vacation but thank you for ruining that by nit-picking over breakfast. Of all the petty things to aggravate your customer base over. Aka paying hotel guests spending way more than whatever you're trying to save on bfast. Service with an attitude problem. I don't need food comped so you can continue to be rude to me. I'll pay for my meal since clearly you aren't employable for long. Managed poorly bc they try to act like they're a separate entity than the Hilton hotel. Untrue. This reflects poorly on Hilton. Don't make your miscommunication problems between the hotel and front desk the customer's problem. Poor customer service. I shouldn't have to be privy to the inner problems between the front desk and the restaurant. If I pay for a breakfast rate to stay in a hotel then whatever that entails needs to be explained by the front desk of the hotel upon check in. Which also needs to be explained at the restaurant host stand or ask us when seating us if we are part of the breakfast hotel rate to try to push us into the cheaper buffet. I was suspicious when the hostess was reading us the menu of food options before seating us but then didn't ask us a question - she just stared at us and I wasn't following / I asked if it mattered and why are we going over menu items right now at the hostess stand with 6 parties behind us in a line waiting to be seated? So it's obvious they're trying to hide the fact that the buffet option is intended for the Hilton rate guests and the off the menu is a separate thing perhaps trying to seat different people in different areas of the restaurant? Idk good grief but whatever you're trying to accomplish isn't working. Work on communication skills. And when I call the front desk to ask what the deal is bc I'm suspicious this was never explained, don't tell me it doesn't matter bc it's all charged to the room and the waitress gives me an attitude problem about it when she tells me something different and I state that's not what the hotel is telling guests. Good grief. And the front desk and the restaurant manager need to agree...fix your problems Croft this is nonsense - people on vacation don't want to deal with bc you're trying to cheapen the breakfast option. We won't be back. Way to ruin an entire weekend trip with a waitress with a nasty attitude who clearly had an internal meltdown the second I was frustrated and trying to communicate my source of frustration which was being told different things by the hotel. This is the fault of Croft v Hilton getting greedy over breakfast rates. Stop making it the customer's problem. Poor communication. Poor choices to save money. This is not a seamless customer experience. Be consistent. And stop making your problems the customer's problem. The manager not coming over the talk with us and forcing the waitress to handle the issue when she's clearly spiraling also isn't fair to her. Avoid and hide isn't how you resolve anything. My wife and I had a 2-night stay at the Cloudland Resort Hotel where this restaurant is located. This included two breakfasts and two dinners each. In summary, the food was pretty good overall. The hotel has been open only since May, but not yet up to 5* as yet. Both the breakfast and dinner menus are contained on one page. Dinner has 7 starters, 3 soup/salads, and 8 mains. For breakfast I had the same both days: toasted bagel with smoked salmon and cream cheese, with an egg on the side. Wife had a pastry basket. With coffee our combined tabs for the 2 days was $83. We received a Hilton food and beverage credit of $60 as Hilton Diamond. First dinner wife ordered appetizers: The vidalia onion tart looked more like a small pizza. She liked it, and I didn't taste it. Second appetizer was a plate of 4 crab hushpuppies. We shared these, and I liked mine, but I thought the fried wrapper rather overpowered the crab. Her third appetizer was mac and cheese. It was a large portion big enough for two. She thought it too salty and ate only a bit. For me it was fine, but I had enough to eat with my order. I had the tomato soup with some crab added in. It was a small portion and just OK, and they served it with a teaspoon, which I thought strange. My main was flank steak with potatoes. I ordered it rare, but it seemed to be more like medium rare. We were eating outside, and with the light it was hard to tell. Flank steak is chewy, so it likely didn't matter. With the rest of the food I filled up and didn't quite finish it all. Dessert was three scoops of raspberry sorbet. Along with 3 glasses of wine, the tab with tax and tip was $198. For dinner #2, my wife ordered a "grains salad", which to my mind was bizarre in appearance. She wasn't too hungry and decided to take it home in a box. Her starter was a charcuterie board with a pate, some cheese, smoked salmon, and some olives and pickles. She had all the salmon and a few bites of the pate and cheese, which resembled pimento(??) I sampled the pate, which wasn't anything special, but I did like the cheese with a couple of crackers. My dinner was a starter of lamb ribs and then braised short ribs over a bed of grits with fava beans and peas. The lamb was 5 rib bones with some meat attached, served with a peach bbq sauce. One had very tough meat, while the others were good. The braised beef ribs were the highlight of either meal, the only really exceptional dish. Wife polished off half of it, and commented it reminded her of shepherd's pie. With 2 glasses of wine the tab with tax and tip was $98. Service was leisurely, but we weren't in a rush. All the people we met during our stay were great. We found the AC too cold for dining inside and ate both times on the outside patio. Since school has now started, there were no kids at the hotel. There is mandatory valet parking, and hotel guests are charged $43/day. I don't know what the case is for guests from outside, so I'd check first before reserving. read more

Wow. What a beautiful experience at the Croft! Not only was the view stunning, but the food, service and drinks were delectable! For starters, we had the lump crab hushpuppies and smokey mac and cheese. Personally, I am not a fan crab--it's typically too strong and overwhelming in the seafood department, but these hush puppies were PHENOMENAL! The lump crab was baked into them (not just simply placed on top) in the most perfect ratio to the rest of the batter, not oily or too dense, and the remoulade topped it off perfectly. The Smokey Mac and cheese was cheese overload in the best way possible. The bleu cheese breadcrumb crumble and Smokey bacon were delicious and the perfect additions to the creamy sauce. The Grains Salad was fresh and crisp, and the soft boiled beet pickled egg was cooked to perfection. As for the braised beef short ribs...they were fall-off-the-bone and simply incredible. The demi glace was rich and flavorful, and the candied vegetables superb. Cheesy grits balanced out the dish and made for a hearty meal! For dessert, we got the Campfire Bread Pudding. The bread pudding itself was really yummy, with a nice crust and fluffy inside, however, it could have been much hotter (came out a bit cold/luke warm). Overall, it was good, but had a bit too much toffee syrup for my liking--a nice drizzle would have done the job just right. I likely would not order again. Not pictured is the Just Dance drink. Balanced just perfectly for a great taste similar to a margarita! The service itself was a bit slow, but I am sure they are working out the kinks to a new opening. Our waitress and other staff were great at being attentive, answering our questions and providing some wonderful recommendations. With the hotel being so new and us being one of just a few tables, the ambiance was very quiet and peaceful, with a beautiful view of the mountains and soon-to-be pool. I can foresee though when it gets more crowded that the ambiance will be much louder and likely echo-y. Overall, incredibly impressed with the meal and excited to be back for breakfast in the morning! read more

We ate at Croft for breakfast and for dinner. For breakfast, I had the eggs benedict. It tastes like somebody went to put salt on it, and the top fell off. Replaced it with the mountain breakfast. The worst scrambled eggs I've ever had. How do you mess up scrambled eggs? Chewy bacon, not crispy. And the sausage was Jimmy Dean's quality. Now, even worse, the dinner. My wife had the steak au poivre. About $50. Supposed to be cooked medium. It was well done, and cold. I'm talking take a slice and put your tongue in the center of the meat, it's cold. I had the croft Burger. I asked for it medium well, and it came out well done. It was dry and, once again, cold! So our server took both meals back and my wife ordered the croft burger this time. This time the burgers were hot, however, well done and again, dry! The good? The seasoned fries are excellent! They do have left hand milk stout on tap. One of my favorites. Our server, Logan, was awesome! This is a beautiful, high end resort, with subpar food. read more

Food: Grouper bites were delicious as a starter. The Ahi entree was incredible. Service: Emily was our server and she could not have been more enjoyable to talk to and brought our food out promptly. Atmosphere: Incredible view from our table! The entire hotel is beautifully decorated. Our only suggestion would be for them to acquire better chairs in Croft. They are super noisy when moved. We ate twice at Croft during our stay at Cloudland, and both meals were excellent. I ate the brick chicken both visits, and my husband had the tilefish one night, and salmon the next. We found the salads, the entrees, and dessert to be absolutely excellent. Our servers were warm and helpful (Winter on our first visit, and Victoria the next). We would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

We had an underwhelming experience at the Croft for breakfast/brunch. The food leaves much to be desired and the service even more. I asked for cheese on my eggs and they came out without. Not a problem but may I have some ketchup? I had to ask twice and waited for about 10 mins total. My husband ordered poached eggs and they came out with the yolk fully cooked. We sent it back and asked for the French toast. The French toast was decent however not good enough to redeem the overall experience. The staff as a whole are very nice but not at all operationally sound. Despite open tables and multiple servers, we had to call across the restaurant to get anyone to come to us (trying to make eye contact/flag someone down was not enough). We got an appetizer, the appetizer was put on a tray with another parties meal, the tray was taken from the kitchen to the outside patio, and unloaded to the outside table. The server then tried to give them our appetizer and ultimately put it back on the tray, came inside, handed the plate to a different server, and then brought to us. There no a handle on dish consistency for back of house or order of operations for front of house. While the drinks were enjoyable, the overall experience was marred by inconsistent food quality and slow, disorganized service. I would hesitate to recommend The Croft for breakfast or brunch. Which is unfortunate given the limited dining options on the resort it's associated with. read more
