Have only eaten there once on recommendation, went by and had some breakfast. The selection was good and my breakfast biscuit was excellent. All the food in our party was good. The service was quick but there was almost nobody there, so I can't speak to that when they are busy. But I would expect these folks know how to take care of people based on their reviews. Pricing is where it gets kind of dicey. $3.64 for a small soda seems over the top. And six dollars for a ham and cheese biscuit just bumped up against "too high" pretty hard. I'm all about supporting the local business community for sure. But pricing in our blue collar community would seem to be an obvious pressure point. read more

A visit to Greg's was interesting to say the least. It is a "seat yourself" diner but there is no sign to let you know, and we stood at the door for a good 10 minutes before I finally asked someone. The food was OK, but the service was nice. We had a lovely waitress named Sally, and she was very busy. It took a long time for tables to be cleared even during the slow times. I wasn't really a fan. We visited this restaurant in mid-January with friends on a Friday at 6 PM. It was busy, but we were seated quickly. Our server was friendly and let us know right away that our food would take at least an hour to arrive. To pass the time, we added the all-you-can-eat salad bar since the server described it as having a great variety. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. I asked an employee at the counter if it was being restocked, but after checking in the back, they told us that certain items are removed for dinner service. So, we made do with the limited salad bar and waited. Over an hour later, our four meals finally arrived. The portion sizes were on the smaller side, so if you have a big appetite, this might not be the best spot for you. The biggest issue, however, was the mashed potatoes--three out of four of us found them to have a very odd flavor, and no amount of salt, pepper, or gravy could make them taste right. read more

The restaurant is set back a bit from the road with a big parking lot in front. There is a big sign at the road, so it's pretty easy to find. There are a couple businesses which seem to share the parking area, but it's not crowded. I didn't notice any handicapped spots, but I wasn't really looking either. We were able to park next to the front of the building, which has an awning that runs along the entire front so you can get out of the rain (or sun) quickly. The dining area feels large and open. It's not crowded together, and there are plenty of seating options. There is a chalkboard to the left rear with daily specials and other items listed. The counter is to the right as you come in the door. Our server asked us where we wanted to sit, so we picked a booth near the back. Drink orders were taken, and we read through the extensive menu. We came specifically for breakfast, and they offer many choices and include just about anything you can think of. I settled on eggs, biscuit and gravy, sausage, and grits. Those are my go-to items whenever I try a new place. The food took maybe ten minutes to come out, and seemed hot off the grill. The eggs were cooked a little less than I requested, but not bad. The sausage was done perfectly. The grits seemed like store-bought, but serviceable. The biscuits and gravy were excellent. The server was very friendly and experienced. All servers seemed to work well together, and I never saw an empty drink anywhere in the restaurant. Greg's offers a lot more than breakfast, so I hope to get back to try their other offerings. There are also a lot more breakfast items I need to try. I think I'll be coming back often. read more

I been wanting to try this restaurant out for about a month now. I called them on phone and they talked me into driving the 74 mile round trip to this restaurant. Got their chuck wagon steak, fried okra, Lima beans and a cold fried apple pie to go. They didn't bother to heat my apple pie up either as they just gave it to me assuming i wanted it to go. I was hoping to eat the apple pie there. Lima Beans came in a small bowl and were actually good the more I have thought about it. They were very slow in getting my to go order ready as if though they were waiting on somebody to show up. Menu items to go ordered were: flounder, strawberries and bananas, and fried okra. Well, Friend actually liked all this food and given that fact alone raises the so called "bar" up. Final thoughts: I might go back and give them another chance. I like coming to Greg's for a few reasons. First, I like the area of Chickamauga. It's slower here, so expect that (all around) before coming. Secondly, I like the food. After seating myself, I like that I can chose breakfast or lunch all day, and they offer daily specials. For breakfast I usually get something like eggs, pork chops, French toast and hash browns with onions. For lunch or dinner I usually go with "a special", a meat and two veggies. I like the chicken fingers (with ranch and buffalo sauce on the side) greens, beans, cornbread and or rolls. They have good coffee and tea. Lastly, I like the price for the value. The kids usually get a $5 breakfast that includes 1 egg, bacon or sausage, biscuits and gravy or grits and toast. I recommend Greg's if you want down-home cooking, are not in a hurry, or want anything fancy. read more

Holy cow! I was working in the area and found this jewel on Yelp. It was exactly what I was needing today; good Southern comfort food. They had a special of the day which was chicken and dressing, turnip greens, sweet potato casserole, pinto beans and corn bread. It was to die for. Seriously. As if things couldn't have gotten better, the waitress was very nice and attentive. I will for sure visit this place again. Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. I was not disappointed with Greg's. It is nothing spectacular, but is seems like a nice, hometown restaurant where you can get consistently good food. My first impression was that the poor waitresses (2 on duty) were working their tails off. Of the 19 tables in the restaurant, 13 were occupied. As a result, the coffee refills were a bit too infrequent. The waitresses also served as cashiers. The food was good and the initial service was very prompt. The price was reasonable as well. The fact that the dining room was nearly full speaks for itself, because there are at least two other options in this small town. The biscuits and gravy were delicious. read more

The corn bread was dry and the yeast tools tasted like they were made from frozen dough. I was sicker than a dog after eating this (I was starving or I would've walked out). My husband said his chicken fried steak was good, as were the green beans and fresh made mashed potatoes. I had all veggies and did not regret it one bit. First, deviled eggs were great. Also had broccoli-raisin salad, also great, but if you are thinking low-cal, probably not a good choice as the dressing was pretty sweet. My wife and I tried this place on a return trip to Chattanooga, TN. We were looking for a chain restaurant but my wife knows I love some good southern friend food so we stopped at "Gregs". I had noticed a sign 5 miles before it announcing it or we would have missed it. It was a cozy little country place and our server was Angie. It took a minute for us to be told we could seat anywhere we liked. It was a little annoying to not see anything telling us to "wait to be seated" or "seat yourself". After that, it was WONDERFUL. I ordered salmon patties and three veggies for $7.50, GREAT value for what we ordered. They had large drink cups that were never empty as Angie always returned to check on us and ensure we had everything we needed. The food it's self was delicious and surprisingly not too greasy. None of the food was soggy it or dripping in grease; the friend green tomatoes were especially yummy. We have always used flour to make them at home and we believe "Gregs" uses corn meal. They were not soggy or floppy and had a unique taste. The salmon patties I was able to pull in half and each with my hands because they did not fall apart. As we left, we got a drink to-go and holy cow, it was 42 ounces! THAT is how to do a to-go drink! I doubt I will have the chance to go and try "Gregs" again anytime anytime soon again as we do not travel out that way much. If for whatever reason work does send me out this way, I will surely bypass any of the chain restaurants to get something affordable, delicious, and for southern friend cooking, much better for me. read more

My company does business with Shaw and Greg's is a breakfast treat when we visit. Wait staff have always been friendly and fast. Eggs cooked as requested, great home fried and AMAZING sausage patties. They buy it from a local outfit in LaFayette i believe and it's the best i've ever had.
