Friends of mine went to the Tomato Cafe for lunch and asked if they could bring me back something. I had them order me the tomato mozzarella salad (how bad can you screw that up right)? When they brought it to me, the greasy dressing was dripping from the container. The salad was way over dressed (should have asked for it on the side). The container was not closed properly, there were no napkins or any silverware in the bag. Half of the croutons were stale and the other half were so completely drenched and mushy from the oil they were falling apart. Inedible. I tried one of the tomatoes (shouldn't the Tomato Cafe have the best tomatoes around)? Hardly. The tomatoes were completely mushy and flavorless. Again, inedible. I decide to call them and let them know how bad this salad was. I told the "gentleman" who answered the phone how bad the salad was and his response was "uh, okay". Never apologized, never offered to make another one, to refund my money....nothing. Rude people, offense and horrible/inedible salad. Will NEVER order from here again. read more

Good food but will never go back again. How can you substantiate $5.00 for a 12oz. bottle of Budweiser??? $3.50, $3.75, even $4.00 is fair but $5.00, really. Sorry, gave you 3 stars because of the food but you are ripping people off on the beer. read more

The first thing I LOVED about this place was the fact that they were the ONLY eatery that bothered to open on the day of the cupcake festival. How foolish of the other business owners to be closed on a day when there were people swarming the streets, right around lunch time, in search of something other than cupcakes to eat! As we approached I was pleased to see they have outdoor seating, because the location is lovely and on a beautiful day it would be ideal. Upon entering there's some counter seating at the front window, and a case and cooler with some great looking desserts on display. We walked in and the place was really mobbed due to the circumstances. But the staff was really hustling and we were immediately greeted by a sweet young man with a pony tail. He answered my questions about my dietary restrictions, explained that they would be happy to accommodate, and regretfully told us there was a 20 minute wait. We left our name and went back out to the cupcake festival for 10-15 minutes. When we returned, the owner recognized us, (not the original fellow who took our name) confirmed the name and seated us right away. The place was really hopping, and again, the servers were apologetic for the crowd but were very attentive. We were waited on quite efficiently considering how busy they were. They even put my cupcakes in their blast freezer to keep them from turning to mush on me! The place has a real hipster feel about it. A lot of chalkboard signs and casual looking young servers. They were great about altering my food to meet my dietary restrictions, and my friend was thrilled with her dish. The only reason I'm holding out on that 1 star is because I'd love to see more gluten free vegan options on the menu. Other than that, no complaints! read more

i love the tomato cafe. it is a nice casual environment, great for any meal. the staff is super friendly. the food is great. i went with some friends going back a few months and got the tuna nicoise. it was delicious as was the appetizer we shared, the bruschetta of the day. aside from that dine in experience i have ordered pizza from the tomato cafe several times and in comparison to everywhere else in the area theirs is the best. i come from staten island where i have been spoiled my whole life with some of the most amazing pizzerias ever. from what i have experienced up here the only pizza that compares is from tomato cafe. the gelato was yummy too. read more

I was pleasantly surprised with The Tomato Cafe in Fishkill. The atmosphere was casual and inviting. I went during lunch time and it was packed. I was greeted right away and given a menu for take out. The menu had a great selection but yet not overwhelming. We had the burger and the wings with fries. Both were delicious and satisfying. Stopped here for lunch on the way to the walkway over the Hudson. Had a grilled cheese with gruyere and bacon with some tomato soup on sourdough. Not the best grilled cheese I ever had but was enjoyable and the soup was decent as well, a good dipping sandwich. We also tried a BBQ pizza which was a bit too greasy and too sweet for my taste. Sandwich with soup was about $10 so not too cheap but worth visiting for a quick snack if you're in the area. read more

The food was delicious, and four star. The service was amiable but slack. Fruit for the French Toast was not brought until requested, though it appeared on the menu. The service was slow. On a lovely Sunday we had brunch outside. Who would have thought there was so much traffic, cars and motorcycles in Fishkill. The china was not quite clean. I will try it again on a weekday if I am up that way, maybe they are better when they are not so busy. read more

I've eaten here several times now and overall had good experiences. The food is really good and prices did not seem bad. I knocked a star off for our last visit because we got two cups of tomato soup w bacon (they added $2/cup for the bacon!) two salads with ahi tuna, one small pizza, a caprese salad and 3 nonalcoholic drinks and our bill was $71 before tip. That seemed a little excessive to me. The salads weren't priced bad but the soup and pizza seemed high for what they were. We will return, but not as often because as a family of five we have better more affordable options with comparable quality. read more

Only 4 Stars? This is the 2nd place I ate when I moved to Wappingers Falls and I go back regularly, I'd say weekly. Waitstaff are pleasant, friendly & attentive. Nice menu, nice variety and daily specials that are varied & attempt to please all tastes. Their soups are great, especially their unique soups. Roasted red pepper & gouda, and I'm not a fan of gouda! I make a good butternut squash soup, they serve theirs with apples. I'm not a huge fan of the apples but its a great soup nonetheless. Excellent pizza & I say that as a newly relocated Bronxite who could throw a rock & get great pizza. Great salads, but I wish they'd have more than just vinaigrettes. Flank steak tender & well prepared. Burgers great. Even the Italian food wasn't bad. Desserts were outstanding, mostly small types of dessert, cookies, lava cake (get it!). I'd highly recommend the Tomato Café, but if not, no worries, more tables for me! As I mentioned, great soups but I have to say, lately its been just Gazpacho & Minestrone. read more

Walking into the Tomato Cafe, you think "this is a charming cafe with character". Nicely decorated and warm greeting. The menu has much to offer in terms of breakfast, lunch, brunch and pizza. It was hard to narrow the choices and then we noticed the specials and it made it more difficult. The service could have been exposed to more experience but still not bad. Food came out hot and delicious. Kim ordered a specialty salad- baby arugula topped with grilled chicken, 3 bean salad, goat cheese, with a parsley and cucumber vinaigrette dressing. I had the Baked Eggs which was served over tomato, prosciutto, and mozzarella cheese with a side of potatoes and diced, crunchy bacon. Delicious food and charming decor. read more

The food here has always been excellent every time we've dined here. The only reason we give it three stars is the lack of service after your food arrives. On multiple occasions we have waited 20+ minutes for our waiter or anyone else to bring us our check after we've finished our plates. Some people will get up and just ask for their check and a box for any leftovers, but at a place Iike this (with the good business they do), you shouldn't have to (especially when the service on the front end is so fast and efficient). Improve your service, and I'll upgrade to five stars. read more

Food was very very good. My husband has been here a few times and enjoyed the food so we decided to stop in for brunch with my mother-in-law. She loved the open omelet with her own choice of toppings. I had lunch and went for the turkey B.L.T. It was great. The turkey wasn't like fake cold cut turkey, it was like "carved from a thanksgiving turkey" turkey. It was too windy to sit outside like we wanted so we sat inside. Called the manager/owner who sounded too busy to care and then echoed the server's sentiment of not caring. Only response if that "we hope you come back." Was in charge of a conference at a local hotel and needed dinner and lunch the next day delivered. Scott was thorough in asking about the guests. Based on my answers he suggested items from the menu. Every suggestion was enjoyed by all. One attendee lives local and wanted to know who catered because she wants to take her family to the restaurant! One of the top items was the Harvest Salad! My husband and I saw this place a year ago and couldn't wait to try it once we were in Fishkill again. We brought our 3 older children and stopped in on a Sunday afternoon hoping to have a great meal before getting on the train back to NYC. We walked in the door and it was downhill from there! They gave our table to someone else and then scrambled to find us a table. Lunch took forever, and when we heard the women next to us, ask the waitress why there lunch was taking so long...we almost walked out right there without our food. It finally came within a few minutes, my eggs had that greasy diner after taste, the french toast wasn't anything special and the worst was the calzone (which was why we came in, in the first place) was not the one that my husband ordered..the traditional one with the sauce poured all over it. No, it was a breakfast calzone with egg, cheese and bacon and mustard on the side and it was barely edible (really dry). Maybe we hit a bad day? But I have no desire to go back :( read more

Typically my review for this place would be good however I was so disappointed today that I feel compelled. I went in on a Tuesday morning expecting three other people to join me, I ordered beef barley soup and to my amazement I get a cup of barley and chicken broth with chunks of corned beef and sliced pastrami. At this point I am the only person in the restaurant. I'm staring at the waitress for a good couple of minutes and then she finally comes over and I show her the soup. She brings it back to the kitchen comes back and tells me but that isn't the normal beef barley and she doesn't know why he did that. She did profusely apologize and asked me if I wanted to go to the counter to speak to the owner. I said I wasn't sure what I was going to do but then quickly decided to leave after seeing her tell the owner what was wrong and he didn't come over to speak to me. What terrible business practice number one to misrepresent your food so poorly and also to let a table to get up and walk out because the owner didn't want to come speak to me. read more
