Taylor at our hotel recommended the Tollgate Inn for dinner. Since it's Saturday night I called for a reservation, but they do not except reservations, it's first come first serve. Really cool looking restaurant ... We walked past a mile high cakes in the homemade jams, lovely!. There was outside dining in the courtyard and we enjoyed the air-conditioned restaurant. Our food came out very quickly, service was great. Mike liked the fish and chips; while smoked brisket with mac & cheese caught my eye. Our salads were generous, fresh, crispy and delicious. My mac & cheese was awesome, a generous portions, homemade, very cheesy and creamy. My brisket was okay. My husbands dinner was good. Have taken my son, daughter-in-law, and 2 grandchildren to Tollgate the past 2 weekends for dinner. Excellent food. Excellent service. We have been working outside and didn't have to dress up. The restaurant is old fashioned and has a bar (never been in the bar) that is fairly comfortable. My favorite spot in the restaurant is near the fire place during the winter to help keep me warm. The menu appears that it changes every week by the dates that print on it, however, the menu rarely changes. I recommend the green goddess salad, brisket Mac and cheese, pot roast for the dinner menu. Breakfast menu I recommend the farmers omelette, chicken fried steak, biscuits and gravy. My family of 6 went to have dinner last night and I ordered the chicken pot pie!!!! It is sooooo good all homemade and enough for me to have for lunch today! The mozzarella sticks were also very yummy and also all homemade! Typically I get the club and tater tots because it's so good but so glad I went outside my comfort zone! We had a great meal here today. The service was great, the menu had many great options, & the food was pretty good..no complaints. Everyone enjoyed their food & appreciated the choice of tots or fries, also being able to add Cajun seasoning. Their fries are delicious. The Mac and cheese was good, it was much nicer than I expected with a variety of cheeses and cavatappi noodles (my fav). They say breadcrumbs come with it, but it was the tiniest dusting so it'd be even better if they added more. The portions are huge and the prices are very reasonable. I've eaten here many times over the decades. A nice, consistent family restaurant with good food at reasonable prices. Wait staff is always very attentive. Service is usually fast even when the place is crowded as it often is. I especially enjoy their breakfasts which are traditional, generous portions and very filling/tasty. Nothing fancy. Most of the reviews I see are old, and most complain about the food quality. My wife and I ate there last week and I'm sorry to report that nothing has changed. My wife ordered the chicken pot pie. Without a doubt it was the worst chicken pot pie ever, the crust tasted like it was made from flour and water only. As they say in the movies the chicken will hurt your eyes, looking for the chicken. I was very impressed with my fish tacos, perfect amount of coleslaw, sauce and salsa. All flavors were there and not too fishy at all! The meat sampler was amazing, with the BBQ beans being a little too BBQ for me I guess? But the meat texture was fall apart yum. Spinach artichoke was perfect in all ways! Everyone here is super nice! The food sometimes is hit and miss. The bakery there is cool very relaxing.

1/7/25 Worst food we have had in a long while--anywhere. Been eating here for years and while it hasn't always been great it has at least been edible. Not what I was hoping for. Online ordered for my wife and I. I ordered the Steak Frites tonight ($19) and was prompted to chose how I wanted the steak cooked. I selected medium and was told when the order would be ready (6:10pm). I arrived on time for pickup and was told they were still working on the steak frites. Seemed odd since the parking lot was half empty. The order was given to me 5 minutes late (not a big deal at all). When I got home and opened my steak frites, they were clearly well done and dry. Maybe if they took the meat off 5 minutes earlier, I would have gotten the order at the stated time and at the requested temperature. If this is their "medium" then I suggest ordering extra rare in the future. read more

We stopped at this place on a road rip through the area. The food was really tasty. I had the Tillamook burger and tots and BOY were there a lot of tots. I could not finish it at all! My partner had the French dip, which he says was okay. He had the beef barley soup, which he said was quite good. The ambiance was very quaint, but in a good way. Lots of antiques and comfortable seating. Kelly was our server and she was just amazing. She deserves a raise for her fantastic service. She even gave us a little sample of the Hungarian cream of mushroom soup (which was amazing imo; get it if you have the the chance!) We'll be bookmarking this place for later because we will CERTAINLY be coming back! read more

We came here on Boxing Day, and I suspect they were either understaffed because of the day, or just from the difficulty finding workers in this post-pandemic environment, but regardless, they lost our order and didn't figure that out for 40 minutes, after which we had to wait for them to cook our breakfast food. Ok my goodness the bakery has the freaking BEST lemon poppyseed muffins! I live 6.8 miles away and i'm tempted to go before work! They also have affordable edible chocolate chip cookie dough... their cups of it is just $5... which is a steal compared to edible cookie dough bars. The restaurant.... on we have been twice now. We still haven't tried dessert darn it. I want to try the 15 layer chocolate cake and the Settlers cake.... someday!!! Service was freaking fantastic the first visit and attentive overall but kinda lackluster the second visit. Side salads are great, fresh, and a good portion. Chicken fried chicken is bombdiggity... their country gravy is fabulous!!! Bacon was cooked right. Mom loves the rolls.... they are soft and yeasty? But I didn't try them yet still. The fried zucchini (one of my favorites) is the slices or silver dollar type and beer battered... yum. They make their own ranch and blue cheese dressings... the ranch is yummmm the blue cheese kinda tastes the same so maybe more blue cheese?? The pot roast was like omg yummmmilicious... pull it apart without a knife and just your fork to mouth tender. Brown gravy was pretty good. Don't bother with mashed potatoes. They're ok just a classic scoop. Nothing to write home about. And they had beef liver and onions with bacon. You don't find it often but my dad loves it and said it was good. So... take that for what is worth. The decor is uber cute and old fashioned like I would imagine my grandma's :) that's a compliment. The place is deceivingly large inside. Last visit a couple years ago was not good. Mom and I decided to give a 2nd chance. The square shaped pot roast was inedible. The mash potatoes were a glob of something and almost as brown as the gravy. Mom ended up only eating the $6 dinner salad (lettuce, 2 tomato, 3 slice cucumber and ranch- the dinner salad not included with a dinner) Then she went home and made herself a frozen dinner. Such an icon over the years of passing through Sandy! We finally stopped in to give it a try for dinner. Aesthetically the place is really unique with a ton of history and trinkets on the wall. Opening up the menu I was pleasantly greeted with decent priced food! The service was prompt and friendly which made the experience feel very welcoming. So many choices I decided to try something I wouldn't have anywhere else. My wife got the chicken pot pie, which had a pretty good crust flavor and consistency. The filling was average at best. I got the special Prime rib. After ordering I noticed the placard on the table which stated the price of said special....$36!! I instantly regretted my decision, but hoped for an amazing meal. The quality of the special enhanced my regret. Prime rib was just okay, sauces were watered down/bland. Asparagus was weird, discolored yellow, tough, and not fresh tasting. Baked potato came with butter and sour cream. Nothing special about this meal. I'm rooting for this place to step up their food game, but I won't be stopping by again anytime soon. read more

I haven't been to Tollgate for about a year, my wife and I use to go here on a pretty regular basis. Tonight I had the chicken fried steak and it was the worst I have ever had!! The meat tasted like a very grainy piece of breaded meatloaf and the potatoes were like a baked potato squished to the plate with gravy on it. I tried The Tollgate Inn with some friends tonight. We had seen it on our way through Sandy and looked it up as a possibility for dinner when it was time to head home after the day trip we had planned. The menu and food looked good when we looked it up on Yelp so we gave it a try. We are happy we did! When we first walked in we noticed it wasn't very busy. There wasn't anyone at the front when we walked in and we had to wait a few minutes before anyone came to the front. Once we were seated we immediately saw the dessert menu on the table. We noticed how great the prices were and we had already decided that we were going to do dessert after we had dinner. Our server was friendly and helpful when we had a couple questions. There were times when we wouldn't see her for a while. I ended up getting the brisket sandwich with fries (I asked the server if she liked the fries or tots better and she said to go with the fries). Both the sandwich and the fries were tasty. My friend got the chicken pot pie which was almost the size of a whole pie. It was HUGE! My friend loved it. Another friend got the chicken fried steak. It was huge, but he managed to finish it. Before we received our entrees they brought out a basket of warm rolls. So good! A great meal, value and decent customer service. read more

Just had the worst service at Tollgate. We (party of four) arrived at noon, intending to catch breakfast before it ended at 12:30. We were seated quickly, then proceeded to wait 25 minutes before anyone even asked us if we wanted coffee or drinks. After we ordered coffees and waters, we had to wait another 10 minutes before they showed up. At this point we assumed they wouldn't serve us breakfast, but we at least wanted lunch or something... The drinks were dropped off, and the waitress left before asking us about our food orders. FINALLY, at 12:40 she took our orders (and let the breakfast folks order breakfast, which was nice). Another half hour later, after being at the restaurant for over an hour, our food arrived; missing a portion of my order, the sides of my friend's order, and with only two sets of silverware on the table. We had to ask for all these things in separate trips, as the waitress would only show up every ten minutes or so, listen to our questions, and then bring ONE of the items at a time, forgetting the others. We finally made do with three sets of silverware and three napkins, because she never managed to bring the last silverware set. My extra sauce was cold, and it took asking two different people for it three times before it showed up. The place wasn't even that busy! It wasn't only us either; another table got their check before their food even showed up! We were all disappointed in our food, which cost entirely too much. Overall, however, the low rating is mostly due to the horrible service. read more

Absolutely nothing to complain about here. Hubby and I sat in the lounge. It's got a bit of an "older" smell, haha, but nothing terrible or revolting. It's decorated like an old saloon, very cute and homey. My crispy chipotle chicken wrap was incredible. It was packed so full and immensely flavorful. The potato salad is good too. Not too intense in egg or mustard, but just enough flavor. My husbands burger and fries were cooked great. He said the tartar sauce was decent. It was a bit sweet. Really cozy stop on Rt. 26. in Sandy, OR. This is a through- stop town on the way to Mt. Hood and this was a cute respite. The food was "from scratch" which I could believe as it was quite good. I really like the decor of the restaurant! It has a country decor theme Our party of four came here and the food arrived in a decent time. The brisket mac and cheese was good -- in a decadent! Their chicken pot pie was tasty also. Their portion is huge, 2 people can definitely share one item. Their clam chowder was only ok -- more vegetables than clams unfortunately. My ultimate opinion? The food here is a mixed bag depending on what you order and I probably wouldn't drive all the way out here. read more
