The car was actually aimed at a different place down the street but it turned in here. Now we have a new fave! Michelle, our hostess & server, warmly greeted us as we came in, making us feel like we were locals & kept our coffees hot. We quickly placed orders for breakfast and enjoyed every bit. Hubby had the Big Biscuit breakfast and I had the California Omelette w/added onions. Good flavors and generous portions (enough that I am taking most of my omelette home for later!) IMHO, hashbrowns should be "browned" with crunchy edges. I'll throw them in the skillet at home when I reheat everything. The restaurant is inviting with nice Americana-type decor and clean from the front door to the restrooms. We make the trip from SW WA to Bend often to see kids/grandkids, so we're happy to add this stop. read more

I had family stop in today to get a bite to eat. After they were seated in the back, they got left and received no service. After some time and the employees looking over at them, they finally got some drinks but the employee wouldn't take their food order. After waiting more, they finally just left money for their sodas and left. Very obvious they were serving every one but the lone Mexican family passing through. May as well just put a sign on the door like back in the days. That way we won't waste each other's time. read more

This is a quaint restaurant that we stopped in for lunch. I really liked the interior as it reminded me of old school diners that I grew up with. Folks, Don't sleep on this place. We had evening plans on the mountain torpedo'ed by bad weather and we were PLEASANTLY surprised by the quality and execution of the food. Definitely family friendly and not too hard on the wallet. We only experienced a few minor missteps that took it from five to four stars. Best part? We'd definitely come back!! UPDATE!!! My boyfriend and I came in to have some breakfast before going up the mountain to play in the snow, we walked in and there was a group of 7 ahead of us, we waited and after the party was sat no one came back up to greet us. I am a restaurant manager for Applebee's and know that even when you're busy it is important to acknowledge your guests. Nobody ever said hello or that they would be right with us. We ended up leaving and going to another place. I would not recommend this place to others unless they want poor customer service. read more

We spotted this restaurant as we passed through Sandy, on our way to Gresham. We stopped to eat here on our way home. We are very glad that we stopped. Our server was very friendly. She made it feel like the family restaurant it is named. My granddaughter said that the place felt like it had been built a long time ago. She didn't say that it felt old. Big difference. Delicious food! Our party had the pulled pork sandwich, chicken fried steak, pancakes, crispy chicken wrap and sides for all and we all absolutely loved our meals! I have to give major props to Sandy Family restaurant today! I've lived here for a while now and haven't had a chance to try out this restaurant. I ordered the French dip because my mother in law said it was good! Unfortunately there was a hair in my sandwich. I'm very shy and non confrontational but my waiter was super kind about it and they got me a new sandwich. They also didn't mind that my toddler was screaming and making a huge mess on the table. I consider myself to be a Reuben sandwich connoisseur and the Reuben here deserves a solid 9.5/10. Bread perfectly crisp, not soggy at all, but still has enough dressing and sauerkraut with plenty of tender corned beef. Gahhh, I wish I could relive eating it, it's rare to find a Reuben sandwich this good. The cajun tots were perfect on the side - very crispy and just enough seasoning without being too salty. Prices are fair and staff is super friendly. This place has so much charm and is the perfect stop on your way to/from Mt. Hood. I have passed this restaurant multiple times traveling through the region, and decided to try it yesterday while in Sandy. Off-street parking while limited, is available next to the building. The dark exterior did not deter me from entering, but the interior darkness almost had me turn around to leave. The lunch crowd was very light. Service was almost immediate and cordial throughout the meal. First impressions: The place feels like it is struggling with limited lighting, a prior at-counter bar now relegated to a catch-all for paperwork and restaurant activities, and seats in booths split open and not taped up to at least look better. The chicken sandwich on a bioche bun was tasty but I opted for a cup of clam chowder vs standard side of french fries. The clam chowder tasted okay but was not a thick, rich broth with potatoes and vegetables with clams...it was a light broth with clams and seasoning. Tasted watered down. At an upcharge of $3.00 that cup of soup was too expensive and not worth the change out. The interior physical space was done too dark and not lit well...paneling of the booths were plywood stained brown...looked cheap...walls were dark brown and the carpeting was dark too... I would not jump to return to this restaurant as it is not visually appealing, and food is not exceptional....for the price paid. Recommend the owner(s) take an objective look at their place and get help updating it to be more attractive inside..Menu was also limited but choices were okay. read more

I moved to the Sandy area about 10 years ago. It took me a few years to try this restaurant. I was very impressed at first. The chef salad was the best and a few months ago I got one and shared it with two other people. The first time I got one I believe they were approx. $11.95. The one I got today was only enough for one person and it cost me $18.50. I know this is happening to a lot of restaurants. Getting less food for more money. When I went in at 4:00pm to get the salad, the place had no other customers. People can't afford to go out any more. It's getting ridiculous. read more

Had the special which was bacon and eggs on a biscuit with country gravy, cheese, and hash browns. Delicious! Biscuit was light, food really good and plentiful. Service was friendly and quick. We were camping nearby and came into town for some thrift store shopping. We got a recommendation from a Goodwill staff member of this local restaurant. I like to support locally owned restaurants when I can. I thought I was walking into a bar at first since it was so dark inside and they had a 'don't serve minors' sign. That thought disappeared quickly when we were greeted by a very friendly waitress. She was personable and downright funny. Wish I could remember her name. Knew the menu well. Service was top notch. They also serve some alcoholic beverages so that explained the sign. We ordered a mushroom, bacon and Swiss burger with tater tots (requested extra crispy) and a hot turkey sandwich. They had a good selection and breakfast all day so it was a hard choice. My first bite of mashed potatoes and gravy found that they use REAL potatoes with some chunks left in and make their yummy gravy from scratch. Just like gramma. The turkey was thick slices and I devoured the whole plate. Definitely above my expectations. The burger was handmade (not manufactured preformed and frozen), the mushrooms were fresh and plentiful and the burger was cooked just right. My friend had asked for her tots extra crispy and they were perfect. Phenomenal. We will definitely return and tell all our traveling friends! read more

We came for dinner at 5pm on a Saturday night. We ordered our food, and 6 minutes later, they wrote the dinner special on the board. Dinner starts at 4pm. We would have loved to have the option of the special. If there is a dinner special, it should be on the board at the beginning of dinner service. The waitress should have at least told it to us. This place is a disaster. Servers seem to think that masks are an accessory to be worn either below the nose or as a new-fashioned 2021 A/W necklace. Nobody tells you that when you enter this "restaurant" you'll be sucked into a black hole of waiting in a COVID breeding party. Almost all customers looked just as miffed about their tediously long waiting time and can only just muster a fake smile when asked by their overworked and oblivious server how the food was. While I truly want to be gracious for the overworked chefs and servers, it's hard to muster that compassion when you get a plate of food that looks like it has been scraped off someone else's. I've now been sitting in the car with our overheated dogs while my GF has been trying to pay (at the counter) for the past 10 minutes. This is 90 minutes of our lives we'll never get back. I have been here several times in the last few weeks. Food I wood give a four star. The service is not very good. So far only one waitress has been good. Thanksgiving dinner there was not good at all. Not only did the waitress was horrible. Walked away when I was ordering. Never got my drink at all. I had to ask several times just to get the water refilled. And just to clarify. There were 4 waitress in there. And only half the tables were filled. So not that busy. This is a place to go if you don't feel like driving into Portland and you live in Sandy. But not a place I will be going any more on a regular basis. I didn't have the highest expectations but wow I was disappointed, this is the definition of bland. We ordered and tried the breakfast burrito, Santa Fe skillet and the country potatoes. The burrito was not awful but it was extremely bland, no seasoning whatsoever not even salt or pepper, the peppers and onions that came with it were completely uncooked and raw. The same thing can be said for the skillet and the country potato's completely void of flavor it was like biting into a raw potato with a side of raw onions and peppers. The pancakes were surprisingly really good, they were sweet and the blueberry's were flavorful. The service was also really good. Contrary to its rather bland exterior, the Sandy Family Restaurant is a great diner-style stop on your way to Mt. Hood. The portions are large (as you might expect from an American diner), the staff are very friendly and genuine, and it never seems too busy. I'm surprised this isn't a more well-known place given the number of potential customers that drive right by it. Plus: it has a huge rack of antlers hanging over a stone fireplace, and a huge American flag on the wall. read more
