Scrambled eggs, with chicken fried steak, and Side Hashbrown Casserole
    Edward M.

Went out with the family to celebrate my father in law for Father's Day. Nothing fancy just solid comfort food and decent portions. I ordered scrambled eggs with chicken fried steak, and it hit the spot. After we sat down, I saw another customer get their sandwich and salad, and honestly, I wish I'd seen it sooner looked damn good. The wife went with the Benedicts and also some pancakes. That's where things fell flat. The ricotta and poppy seed combo didn't work, and the pancakes were dry and too doughy. Not a total miss, but definitely uneven. Still, not a bad place for a casual meal with family. Just gotta order right.

Service was awesome even though we arrived 30 minutes before closing. We were not rushed, we enjoyed our meal and Bloody Mary. Everything was delicious. Ambiance is casual, very clean and pretty large restaurant. We even got to charge our phones while we ate. Would come back again to try other food and drinks. I recommend visiting this establishment.

we ate breakfast here after we left the airport found it on the way out of the airport. I had the pork chop breakfast and it was tasty and my eggs were cooked to perfection ... and my bloody mary was good ... The service was a little slow but she did her best and kept the coffee refilled .. My son his brekfast but my daughters pancakes were not that good... loved the gringo pepper sauce , so tasty on my pork chops...

I honestly had an enjoyable experience at the toasted yolk cafe! I had the avocado toast, which was under-salted, though I prefer this so that I can salt to taste. The za'atar salad side was also something I enjoyed here. I must mention, there were quite a few tiny fruit flies at this location which lessened the ambiance for me. I understand only so much can be done with the cafe being this busy (and it being Houston!), but unfortunately this was not very appealing to me. They also offer mimosas which were quite nice!

We will come here for brunch every time we drive through this area. Fantastic everything. The menu is so fun and creative but you still know what you're getting. The selection of eggs Benedict or "Arnold" is amazing and I was so impressed with my Alaskan. A full portion of salmon over two English muffins with 2 perfectly poached eggs....amazing. My Bloody Mary with the okra and pickle was just what I needed. Thank you thank you..

This place gets busy, but for good reason! The menu has a good variety, though I wish there were more sweet options (plenty of savory!) I'm a big sweet breakfast gal, so I wished they'd had more extravagant waffle/pancake/crepe creations. I went with the southwest bowl with scrambled eggs. It's a good portion, super fresh, and flavorful! The guacamole has a little kick to it which I enjoyed. The apple sausage is also so good in it! The music and noise level is a little high, so wouldn't quite recommend it to anyone with hearing issues that wants to have deep conversations.

This is what you get when you send under cooked eggs back. Are these really over easy. Shouldn't the white be cooked and the yolk runny.

Haven't been here in awhile, now we remember. Greet and waitstaff are great, friendly and attentive. Support staff needs work. Bartender for espresso, takes way too long, ordered coffee 10 min later ordered breakfast and we got food before the espresso. Ordered eggs over easy the whites were snotty, so they were sent back, the line cook decided to make a point and returned them over cooked. Now we remember why it has been so long. So we won't waste are time again.

Came here for brunch the other day. There was plenty of seating and no wait time. I ordered a pineapple mimosa and a pretty basic breakfast. 2 eggs, bacon, pancake and a hash brown cake. I think the has brown cake had some kind of cheese in it.... It was different... I think I would have preferred regular hash browns. Other than that the pancake was amazing and fluffy. There was a bar area that you could watch tv at, perfect for sports. It is pretty big and roomy in the restaurant. I will go back and try something not so basic next time.

Fresh off my flight into Houston I was hungry and needed breakfast and a drink. Found the Toasted Yolk on Yelp and saw that they had both. I got the 2 eggs and cake (pancake or French toast) and substituted the hash brown casserole for oatmeal. For my drink I had a Paloma. Everything was delicious. Staff was nice and service was fast. I would come here again next time I'm in Houston.

The food was outstanding. Well cooked and tastes great. The service was quick and excellent. Coffee was good. Atmosphere was casual with a few TV's and seating area was well lit. I travel to Houston often and will be back.

When we arrived, First Watch looked pretty busy, but we were pleasantly surprised that we were seated right away. The hostess was very kind and welcoming, and our waiter was just as nice... cordial, helpful, and attentive throughout our visit. The service was definitely one of the highlights. For food, we both ordered the Trifecta. I chose the waffle with potatoes instead of eggs, along with their chicken sausage patty, and I added a side salad with mixed greens and a lemon herb dressing. I also added a side of chicken. Initially, I thought the chicken breast would be about $2.50, but before placing the order our waiter came back and clarified that it would be about $5 and would come as strips instead of a full chicken breast. I appreciated him coming back to correct that. When the chicken came out, it was sliced into very thin pieces and was a little lukewarm. I mentioned it to the waiter, and he apologized and handled it professionally by removing it from the bill, which I appreciated. Overall, the food was okay, about a 3.5 out of 5 for me. The waffle was tasty, just as I remembered, and the potatoes were good as well. However, the chicken sausage patty wasn't very good. I personally didn't enjoy it and ended up leaving it on the plate. My husband ordered the pancake with pecans, scrambled eggs, and a side of grits with butter, and he enjoyed his meal. One thing I did like was that you can now pay your bill directly from your phone, which makes it really convenient when you're ready to go without waiting. Overall, the big win here was the service and hospitality. The staff was friendly, attentive, and efficient, and we appreciated being seated quickly even when it seemed busy. The food was decent, though I've had better, but the service made the experience pleasant.

Arriving around lunchtime on a weekday, I had the place to myself which allowed me a unique opportunity to take the place in. That being said, this spot is not overly French cafe themed, but instead a classic suburban strip mall spot with nods to the French peppered throughout the menu and decor. The booth area is well-designed, the spot was clean and the table touched by light so after a great experience chatting with the cashier I was crossing my fingers, hoping the food matched the vibe. I had a crepe Mexicana (because who has ever heard of that?!), a croque monsieur with tomato soup, and a dessert crepe because y'all know I always save room for dessert. It took a minute to be prepared, but I'm willing to wait for a fresh made meal. Everything, was delicious. Crepe texture was on point, and each crepe was stuffed to the Gods. Our server did not have much insight on any favorites, choices or menu items, as admittedly "she doesn't eat their food." Perhaps she has a specific diet and hates taking orders. She skipped right over me and took everyone's order before me (males) even though I was speaking to her. I really dislike when someone says that as they should know it's not good for business, however I simply take it as they don't like their job or is not sociable. It was the first time for my whole family, as we've skipped it many times for its parking lot neighbor--cheddars. (Please keep doing that). Black Bear Diner is a mediocre, moderately priced, cookie cutter dining experience for breakfast and lunch. It has a large menu of mostly same named breakfast/dinner all day menu kind of set up. Food comes fast, pancakes apparently come with no butter. The blackberry lemonade was enjoyed by my family (it is VERY sweet and I don't enjoy sugar), the pancakes portion to bacon ratio is poor, the white cheddar bacon mac n cheese has the same skimpy bacon ratio; is very forgettable and may have the same supplier as Panera bread's Mac in a bag. Now the star of the show, the bear sized chicken fried steak, is normal sized. I inquired if I'd gotten normal by mistake and was told the normal portion was about the size of a (tiny woman shaped hands in a circle demonstration--about this big). The giant steak is how we landed there in the first place--I've been wanting to try it forever. However, that's the takeaway. I wanted it, I tried it, I do not crave it and won't be going again. We really wished we'd ate at home that morning. This is not a get out of bed or a desired dining experience. In fact, I found it annoying to wait in line to pay for something you are in a hurry to get away from.
