Service was great and the food portions were quite big, at a great price. This was my first time there and it won't be my last.

The atmosphere is family friendly and has freeway access just off 1960 in Humble. Portion size is moderate--doesn't feed a bear or a small human, which I am. Our server did not have much insight on any favorites, choices or menu items, as admittedly "she doesn't eat their food." Perhaps she has a specific diet and hates taking orders. She skipped right over me and took everyone's order before me (males) even though I was speaking to her. I really dislike when someone says that as they should know it's not good for business, however I simply take it as they don't like their job or is not sociable. It was the first time for my whole family, as we've skipped it many times for its parking lot neighbor--cheddars. (Please keep doing that). Black Bear Diner is a mediocre, moderately priced, cookie cutter dining experience for breakfast and lunch. It has a large menu of mostly same named breakfast/dinner all day menu kind of set up. Food comes fast, pancakes apparently come with no butter. The blackberry lemonade was enjoyed by my family (it is VERY sweet and I don't enjoy sugar), the pancakes portion to bacon ratio is poor, the white cheddar bacon mac n cheese has the same skimpy bacon ratio; is very forgettable and may have the same supplier as Panera bread's Mac in a bag. Now the star of the show, the bear sized chicken fried steak, is normal sized. I inquired if I'd gotten normal by mistake and was told the normal portion was about the size of a (tiny woman shaped hands in a circle demonstration--about this big). The giant steak is how we landed there in the first place--I've been wanting to try it forever. However, that's the takeaway. I wanted it, I tried it, I do not crave it and won't be going again. We really wished we'd ate at home that morning. This is not a get out of bed or a desired dining experience. In fact, I found it annoying to wait in line to pay for something you are in a hurry to get away from. They bussed us out of there while I was still picking at the burnt hash browns and something tells me that black bear makes its money just before cheddars opens at 11. Food: I ordered the pancakes with two eggs w/cheddar cheese and 2 slices of bacon. It was ok and did what it needed to do in that moment but left more to be desired. Service: It was a Monday and I waited for 5-6 minutes to be seated because they only had one waiter for a semi full room of people. When I was seated I ordered to go and used the restroom. The restroom was really clean and a plus. The food came out pretty fast too. The vibe in there is an older crowd and they all seemed retired and just enjoying someone else cooking for them. lol The meal was $12 so that's reasonable! read more

Online order for delivery: I live in another state and wanted to have something delivered for family for Thanksgiving. Found this place on my food delivery apps. The price was perfect. I loved that it was several items including a dessert. Food was delivered fast. My brother said it smelled good when it arrived and also tasted good. Have visited on four different occasions and on everyone it's been a very helacious wait with no assistance (event after being understanding and consulting with management). It has the proper setting to be a nice homestyle breakfast/brunch type of vibe. But first I'd say make sure that your staff is being attentive to patrons that are entering, make sure servers frequent the table to check to ensure everything is okay, refills,etc and make sure that communication is clear between foh and BOH because on three of those occasions we had multiple orders that were wrong and one not even brought out to our guest that we were treating. Best place for the area - it's really hard to find restaurants by the airport. The area was just kinda sketchy. It made me feel better that this was a chain. Didn't find the original spot we wanted to go to so we drove passed this place and decided to come and try it out!! At first nobody was at the front, I guess they have one person seating people and at register too.. but as soon as he saw us he was quick to sit us down. The menu can be better with pics so we get an idea how it looks!! We asked for the bacon cheddar hamburger, western bbq hamburger, turkey sandwich, and side of onion rings!!! The size portion and flavor was on point, very good hamburger meat..super juicy! They do ask how you want your meat cooked, and that's pretty good. The only issue was I don't know what type of cheddar cheese that it didn't keep melting when burger was still warm. You might want to shop around for a better cheese, other than that everything was delicious The strawberry milk shake was good too!! My son loved it!! Ice cream in your shake?? Our server, Gregory. Excellent. Excellent service. We very much enjoyed our dining experience. The restaurant. Much to look at. Good crowd but not awful. Not too crowded. Husband had meatloaf. He liked. He loved the green beans. Funny our server could anticipate just what my husband would favor with his meatloaf. It was very fitting. My husband was very pleased with his meal. We waited 15 minutes before they took order, sweet cleaning lady helped us get our waitress. I ordered sausage gravy with biscuits, horrible heavy and tasteless biscuits with floury tasteless gravy. We also ordered the Bear's choice - 2 thick-cut smoked bacon, 2 sweet cream pancakes & scrambled eggs with a side of spicy sausage patties. The food was standard and the service was meh. I was set on ordering Grandma's famous cobbler for dessert, but the waiter nonchalantly dropped the bill on the table without saying a word. It turns out we pay at the front (near the hostess stand), and can order desserts there. We were first timers, and it would've been nice to have a heads up, instead of having to find the info on our own. My husband paid the bill, so I looked over the itemized bill after we had already left. We were charged for a "soft drink" ($2.99), although the only drink we ordered was 1 coffee ($3.49). The waiter did ask if I wanted lemon for my water, so the "soft drink" charge could be a charge for the lemon. Our three year old son slipped and almost busted his face in the wet foyer. I understand that some water is unavoidable, but after alerting the front staff that this happened they said "I'll take care of it" and after 5 minutes I had to ask to see the manager when his response was "There's nothing we can do". My response was, "well I'd hate for somebody to slip and really get hurt". I can't be the only one who has been anxious to try this new restaurant that has been seemingly popping up all over the city. The ambiance was very laid back and it wasn't crowded for a Sunday after church. I finally made my way in and unfortunately did not enjoy my experience. I mean, it wasn't completely terrible, I just expected more. We were seated rapidly. It is very much diner style. It's quaint. Our server made some recommendations and we ended up having the 2 egg breakfast with their sweet cream pancakes, tri dip and chicken meal, and 3 kids meals (Alfredo, 2 pizzas) the kids enjoyed their meals. The tri dip was dry and had an unusual flavor (our first time trying it so it may have been normal) The pancakes were pretty good. Sweet, slightly dense. The link sausage was a much better quality of meat than I'm used to from some other breakfast spots. Everything came out lukewarm and we waited a really long time for our food. Had to ask for refills on more than one occasion and they weren't busy, so idk. All in all, didn't seem like a bad place. Worth one shot, but not looking forward to returning. read more
