My husband and I just dropped off our youngest son at IAH at 5:00 AM and figured we'd have breakfast before heading back home. We got here at 6:00 AM and were the only diners. The server was setting up for the morning rush and had her back turned to us. It took a few minutes before we were greeted by her. We ordered coffee, but the server told us it'd be a few minutes because she had to make a new pot. I was a bit surprised that considering the morning rush that a fresh pot wasn't ready or in the making until we ordered. It didn't take long, but seemed to be poor planning. Our food came out fairly quick. We ordered the Super Slam and the BYO Slam. The sausage seemed a bit cold still when I bit into it. I'm not one to complain about my food and send it back. Charlene was our server and she was okay for the most part. She didn't know what came with the Super Slam so I had to pull it up on their website. I had to ask for refills on our coffee as well. She could've been more attentive since we were her only customers. Denny's is very rare for us to dine at because we don't usually go out for breakfast unless we are out at the crack of dawn. The guy in the picture walked us straight to the back of the restaurant through a lady mopping the floor to sit in the back, away from a dining area where people were eating. Another staff member quickly approached us and guided us to the front of the restaurant. I could tell she was disturbed about what just happened, and so was I. What happened to Denny's? My husband and I woke up and thought we should have some Denny's. We hadn't eaten their food in years, so we were looking forward to it. Now we both agree that was the worst breakfast we have ever had. We wish we would've just stayed at home and made the breakfast, or even went to McDonald's or whataburger. A Denny's typically starts out with an automatic 3 stars, given the reliable boilerplate experience. If a Denny's were to get a little less than that, it would be because it's one of those stores that is unkempt and/or the service is sullen. That's not the case at the Kingwood location, a faction of Houston proper some 23 miles northeast that prefers to go by its more popular name of Kingwood. This Kingwood restaurant is a 4 star Denny's. It's one of the nicer stores I've been to. I look at some of the other reviews with a slight amount of bewilderment. What could have possibly gone that sideways? That might have been other patrons' experiences, but it certainly wasn't mine. I knew from the get go that the experience at this Denny's would play out well. As you approach it, the store is tidy and nicely maintained. The way some things are decked out inside indicates it may have undergone some modernization. The service was quick and friendly, and I got to sit where I liked ... and I was eyeing those semicircular booths in the center. The food, breakfast prior to IAH, was good. It was one of those "build your own Slam" 4 item set ups, and I took it a step further by adding some hash browns. They have this dialed, given that Slams are much requested breakfast platters, meaning they are served quickly and served hot. I liked everything on the platter, but especially liked the earthy-crunchy 9 grain pancakes. And, true to Denny's form from sea to shining sea, the presentation is consistent and the prices are fair. I'll say a few other things very quickly. First, this Denny's sits on the frontage road of US 59, the Eastex Freeway. So does the one in Humble, which is actually a few ramps south and closer to IAH airport. From a perusal of their exteriors, I chose to go to this one because I got a better vibe from it. I was glad I made that choice. Then, while breakfasts at Denny's are reliable and have that uniform taste, take note that Denny's does some dinner platters quite well. I'm referring to pot roast, turkey, salmon, and chicken dishes. While it's not currently on their menu, they have featured a chicken Mediterranean, put together with feta cheese and sundried tomatoes, that is much tastier than you'd expect and works well with rice and broccoli, or other sides. Even if this rendition is not available, a good chicken dish is usually on the dinner menu. It's just that that morning, the timing and taste buds called for breakfast food and I was not disappointed. This review is for the Kingwood, TX location. First, on a positive note, the service staff is generally very good and accommodating, and the breakfast food is OK - not spectacular, but predictable and "good" - still not sure why waffles aren't on the menu. I give this location lower marks for the ownership/ management. We have a regular weekly group of 4-6 men. Several times our group has arrived to find no air conditioning and/or heat. In talking with the staff, this can last several days before repairs are made. Believe me, Houston in the late spring-summer-early fall requires air conditioning! The franchise owner and his managers are doing the staff and customers a great disservice by ignoring such problems!!! read more

I give them a 3 star only because the staff is so polite and have great service. The food was Subpar. They have ONLY 1 grill person to make ALL the orders. They are severely under staffed in the kitchen. The poor lady in the grill is busting her butt to get everything out. They need more staff in the kitchen. You can see she is doing an amazing job, keeping calm and trying to fulfill all the tons of orders but it's ridiculous to expect her to do everything by herself. SHE NEEDS HELP!!! No restaurant should have 1 grill person EVER. I hope management or the owner can see this and help staff your succeed and provide the service they are trying so hard to give. I did not go in with an open mind. I've had bad experiences when this Denny's first opened years and years ago. But, my family wanted to go, I'm just along for the ride. I was pleasurably surprised at the cleanliness. Let's be honest, we never expect these places to be spotless. But pretty clean, the waitress was very attentive and accommodating. Im such a nerd because I'm so excited to write my first review as elite. Don't worry I'll never forget where I came from. So a friend, their 4 year old and I came into this location this morning for a catch up brunch and I must say it was much busier than I thought it would be. The parking lot is a little small at this location, but there are two sides. We are greeted quickly and put in our order and I swear the turn around was exactly 10 min. The food came out quick and hot. We got two everyday grand slams from the $2$4$6$8 menu and a kids jr grand slam. The total tab was like $18. We did have one problem and that was the coffee. It tasted burnt and watery. The tab was so cheap there was no point in asking to have it removed. I think we rolled in right after the breakfast rush too because the restaurant emptied out as soon as our food cane out. It was quick, good and cheap. My favs. read more

I love Denny's! Every time I come here I'm greeted with a smile and the Hostess is excellent! It gets pretty busy at times and that means 15 min wait but the hostess moves quick and makes sure customers are being seated. I never had a problem here. The food is consistent and the service is great. I love to eat here for breakfast and I like that the menu has healthy choices for those of us who try to eat healthy sometimes. My favorite dish is the Fit Slam. It's egg whites with spinach, with an English muffin, turkey bacon, and a bowl of fruit. Always comes out fresh and delicious!
