With the arrival of our first nice fall cool front, my wife and I decided to go to Bill's and sit out on the patio. What a spectacular day and as usual the food was great. I had a cheeseburger with onion rings and a handful of the fried mushrooms and fried zucchini slices. My wife had a burger with tater tots. The burgers at Bill's are so good. The buns are buttered and lightly toasted on the griddle, the burgers are big and cover the entire bun; they are cooked to medium but are not dry at all. Sides were piping hot and tasty. Ice tea is home brewed and as usual, drinks are self serve but the food is brought out by the lovely server we have seen there for so long. About the only thing that isn't perfect is the way that TXDOT did the sidewalk in front, it used to be all open for vehicles to pull in and park but when they redid the road and widened it the made an entrance/exit at both ends of Bill's property and with the raised sidewalk it makes parking your car in the front spaces a bit hard. read more

I had this place bookmarked for a visit (but can't remember why) and was in the area last weekend so I stopped by for lunch. Currently there is road construction going on directly in front of the restaurant and there is parking in front and on the sides of the building. The sign says "since 1945" and looking at the building I believed it. Inside it's one small room with a long bar with stools and a few tables with chairs. It has an old bar vibe to it with many old baseball hats stapled to the walls along with a few lighted beer signs. However there were no visible beer coolers or taps. I guess they keep the beer either in the back or under the bar. The only drink dispenser I saw was an iced tea container. The floor is not level and slanted towards the front door. There is a larger and covered outdoor eating area adjacent to the building too. The limited menu consists of only a few hamburgers and sandwiches along with 3 steak options. I ordered the regular burger with fries and the food took about 10 minutes to arrive. First thing I noticed were the home made fries. That's a plus! They were hot and had a very good potato flavor. I appreciate any restaurant that goes to that trouble. The hamburger was dressed and also enjoyed. I guess that the beef patty was about 1/3 lb. Overall, I gave this meal a 3.5. The burger was solid in content but I noticed the the beef could have been seasoned more. I was not asked how I wanted the patty to be cooked. Table service was friendly. Bill's Cafe is a casual, neighborhood type of eatery/hangout. It has a very limited menu and is probably frequented by locals living nearby. I would return but wouldn't make an effort to drive here unless I was close by. I round down to a 3 overall score only for that reason. A 4 score to me is somewhere that I would make an effort to return even if not nearby. read more

This was our first time here and we loved it! The food was SO good! The prices are affordable, and the service was great! The inside was super cozy, and the outside was really spacious. I had the wings, and they were marinated and super hot and crispy! The side salad was also good! It looked way better than that picture on yelp. The house dressing was really delicious. OMG....... While this isn't a current review of Bills Cafe, it IS a blast from my childhood past! This week, I was in town for my fathers funeral, and while 'taking a walk down memory lane', driving around my old stomping grounds, I thought I'd take a spin by. I figured Bills Cafe had been long swallowed up by the sprawl of Kingwood. I was absolutely GIDDY to see it was still here! Talk about a RUSH of childhood memories!! I used to work at Bills when I was a kid in high school! I loved Robs parents, Bill (Robs dad) and mom treated me like family way back in the early 1980s when I bussed tables, and washed dishes at this place. Back then, it was THE place to go for mouth watering, Texas sized steaks, and mighty good bbq! Unfortunately, I came on a Sunday when they were closed, but next time I'm in Kingwood, this will be a 'don't miss' place to stop in for a steak and an ice cold beer! After having this burger spot on my radar for nearly 10 years now, I finally made it during a departmental lunch meeting. I just had no idea it was more of an ice house style burger spot. We decided to sit out on one of the palapas since it was such a nice day, only bad part was the wind which blows any light objects away. There were not many people on a Tuesday for lunch and our order (6 of us) didn't take very long at all. Service was attentive; although it's a little strange here that you can get your drinks self-serve as you walk up to the restaurant, whether it be water, tea, sodas or even beer. I highly recommend the bacon cheeseburger and chili cheese fries, if you can eat it all. The burger patties are about 1/2-lb and they use fresh, hand-formed beef. They aren't seasoned all that much so you are able to really taste the beef. They will cook your burger to order too. The fries are hand-cut and for the chili cheese fries, they add shredded cheddar and a homemade chili to it. This is definitely not canned chili. Most of my colleagues ordered burgers. One person ordered a grilled chicken sandwich which looked pretty good, but the thick onion rings didn't appear to be hand-battered. I'll definitely put this into my rotation if I'm craving a burger for lunch. No doubt this is one of the best homemade burgers in the Kingwood/Porter/Humble area. Seems like Bill's has been there forever and they open around 4 pm Tues-Fri and for lunch on Sat. Far out,a awesome fresh made fully loaded cheddar cheese , bacon and jalapeño burger with fresh cut fires ( with skin) and onion rings rules! Sherri/ Cheri/ Sherry ( not sure) is amazing! She is super sweet and upon my second return to feast had remembered that I needed a few Shiners and a burger STAT! I love the 70's/ 80's dirty oilfield feel due in fact to the numerous hats lining the walls. Very refreshing to find people still drinking a few beers with lunch while on the clock. Appears to be a Kool spot for wrecker drivers to hang out as well, sans beer of course. Can't wait to get back to the states for some Bill's! I'm really glad for Yelp on this find! Bill's doesn't serve chicken fried steak. They even have a sign on the wall that says "No, we don't serve Chicken fried steak, and we never did!" Lucky for me, they serve up a mean burger. Thick patty, very juicy, and huge. They're burgers are similar to Dry Creek or Beck's: very tasty, but not at the top of my list. I usually get their fried okra instead of fries or rings- I like the variation, not to mention they're pretty freakin' good. This is the go to place in Kingwood mainly for the atmosphere, I think. There aren't many places in the area to dine outdoors- on a nice day this place has the best patio complete with a fenced in play area for kids. Come prepared to eat, I mean EAT! read more

I've been here several times and have never had issues. My only complaint would involve dining inside and being forgotten sometimes. It's not much of a bother however because I do understand that most people dine on the patio. I see how it could be easy to forget the few seats they have indoors. Bill's is definitely on my top five burger joints. Out here on the north side of Houston, it's the only place I'll come to for a burger if I'm not in a rush and going to a drive through. Bill's Café is an anomaly. It's this little poorly decorated hole in the wall burger joint by Kingwood. The indoor area looks like a relatively crappy bar while the outside looks like someone without much money or sense put it together. But damn, does it work. First, I'm surprised how long I've been in the area and never made it here, but I'm glad I finally did. Much like Fight Club, Bill's has rules. 'Rules' include not asking about chicken fried steak, because they ain't got it. Don't ask about getting a baked potato either. What's good, everything. lol My suggestion is that you go there for burgers and beer. Bill's has the best burger in that part of town, hands down. It actually competes against some of the burger elites in Houston, but Bill's has a true "I really don't give a crap" vibe that isn't forced like other places. They have essentially 5 things on the menu. You can get a burger, a chicken sandwich, a BBQ sandwich a 30 oz T-bone and a 60 ounce sirloin. There are 5 different cheeses to choose from along with goodies like bacon, mushrooms and jalapenos. Get the damn burger. Unless you're my wife, then do whatever the hell you want and don't touch my burger. When you order your burger, or whatever, make sure you don't just get fires or onion rings, tell them to split it up to fries, sweet potato fries and onion rings. You can also throw in and/or sub fired okra and maybe even fried pickles. The batter coated sweet potato fires are kind of required. Now, to prove Bill's doesn't really give a crap, they have one of those big long sliding top cooler setups filled with beer and limes with koozies sitting on top. You go get your own beers and then just tell the waitress how many you had of which. Bill's goes by the honor system and doesn't really give a crap, because they know you'll be so intrigued by the honor system that you aren't going to be a lying beer stealing coward. The waitresses are laid back, but they also won't take any gruf from anyone and probably could care less if you leave because you're in too much of a dang hurry. Bill's is a casual, ah screw making the movie and grab another beer kind of place. Don't go there if you are in a rush, because you'll kill the mellow. Now, at some point, you're going to go there and order a steak, just because the curiosity is going to get the best of you. It got me, and the next thing I know I had a significant portion of cow sitting on my table. I went 30 oz T-bone for $23. I did the f/sf/o combo and I also had my salad. You know the crappy white part of iceberg lettuce? Yeah, it's that with some sliced carrots thrown on top. Pass. The steak isn't what you'd call a prime cut. It has a bit of an attitude. Although the flavor is actually pretty decent, you know it's jealous of the burgers. If your goal is to make sure your lower intestine is impacted with beef the next morning, mission successful and relatively tasty. The thing is, unless you want to OD on protein, you're going to get a better steak for the same cost down the road at Saltgrass. Bill's is a top notch burger and beer joint that just wants to dare you to have the steak just like it'd trick you into putting your tongue on a frozen pole. It's all in good fun, but not really necessary. BTW, I am going to split that 60 oz sirloin with someone at some point. Maybe I can develop some good old fashioned gout by doing so. Bill's isn't where you go looking for entertainment. You go to Bill's with a group of friends for great burgers and a couple of hours of talk while making the rounds to the beer cooler. Great, great, great burgers!!! Very quirky place. Here's something to note though, and this is why I didn't rate Bill's 5 stars: their menu. Ok, I get it. If it's not on the menu, they don't have it. So I ordered a double cheese burger (not on the menu). When I got the Bill (pun intended) they charged me for TWO cheeseburgers!!! Kinda funny, but kind of expensive. Woulda been nice had the waitress told me, "we're gonna charge you for two burgers." I would have just got the single. My advice: just stick to the menu. Bill's ain't fancy, but it's good.
