My wife and I are part of a club of older adults in Kingwood and once a month we meet up for purely social reasons to enjoy a lunch out together. We started doing this when the pandemic was winding down as a way to get out with friends since we could not previously and also support our local restaurants. Each month we pick a different place or one we might not have been to in a while. We had never tried Petra, I had driven by it many times in the past and was curious as to how it was inside. Since I got to pick this month, I picked Cafe Petra and am glad I did! My wife and I were the first to arrive and when we told them we would be eating with 7 others from our club they quickly pulled some tables together. Our young server was very good, she took drink orders and delivered them to the right customers very quickly. After a bit of socializing we placed our orders and it wasn't very long and food was coming to our table. I had the Chicken Shawarma and Gyro Combo plate and it was a huge serving that also started with a nice salad. Others in our group had gyro sandwiches, salads and even baclava. My wife loved the French fries that are so crisp. The restaurant is clean and nicely decorated with Mediterranean decor, there is a big screen at one end with scenes from Greece and other parts of the region. As I said, service was very good and the servings were large enough that several of our group took home to-go boxes. We will go back in the future. read more

After a game of pickleball in a nearby gym, we went to Cafe Petra as it has good reviews and we liked Greek food Place is new. They have been around for about 6 months. It's well decorated for the holiday season with plenty of lights and decor. It was quiet when we went so was able to get seated right away. We ordered the Messa that consists of chicken, gyro, kibbi and dolma. There are different sizes... for 1, 2 or 3 persons. The chicken was very tasty with the right level of spice. Gyro was good as well. Kibbi (fried dough with ground beef inside) was delicious esp when dipped with Tzatziki. Yum! Dolmas was good too. For the price, there was a decent amount of food. Had to pack some home as we were stuffed. Staff is friendly and offered some suggestions. They have other things in the menu like seafood that we look forward to try next time. read more

Delicious food! Had the Petra Super Special for three. Came with everything and a choice of two proteins. We ordered the chicken and the lamb. Service was great too the waitress took good care of us. The place is a small cafe concept with beautiful decor and Greek music in the background. Only thing I would say is the chicken didn't have any flavor and was a bit too dry. This restaurant will do well in Atascocita! Every table was occupied by the time we left. The owner was so friendly and helpful. He was waiting tables and made everyone feel welcome. Our waitress was attentive and helpful. It was a bit warm inside, so hoping they'll get that fixed going into summer. We ordered the pickled radishes. They were crunchy and paired well with my chicken shawarma wrap. The chicken was tasty. It could have used a little more tzatziki sauce. The hummus and pita was tasty. My husband had the chicken shawarma plate with rice and hummus. The winner of the night, for me, was the baklava cheesecake! I'm sure I'll be dreaming about it tonight! It's been tough trying to find some good Mediterranean food in the area and this one didn't fall too short. I ordered the Combo Kabob Plate ($24.95) which came with came with chicken, shrimp and kefta kabob. The plate had great presentation and everything was hot when I picked it up. The overall high on this plate was the chicken. You can tell it was marinated and has a great flavor and tenderness to it. You could really taste the authentic lebanese spices in the kefta kabob and had a strong flavor of mint in it. The shrimp weren't the best, you can tell they were previously frozen. As for the rice, it was not good and somehow overcooked and undercooked at the same time. The hummus was decent and the feta salad is good if you're a garlic lover. The plate also came with pita bread but it's very thin and chewy, I would pass on that. I also ordered some tahini sauce ($0.95) which I loved as it was super lemony!! I think I would probably return for the chicken kabobs again and maybe try something different on the menu because the flavors are there in the food. Absolutely love this place! I swear I go every other day for the Chicken Shawarma and petra sauce. I read a few comments about the Chicken Shawarma being dry. There are some days I've purchased the chicken and it is moist and full of flavor. There have been a few days I purchased and it was dry and lacking flavor. You can opt between a three-person serving ($74.95) or five ($95.45); we got the five-person serving, and it six adults with so much food leftover. The family meal comes with your choice of two proteins, hummus, tzatziki, rice pilaf, five salads, dolmas, falafel, pickles, pickled onions, and pita. We also ordered the trio dip and fried cheese, but we could have done without the trio dip since the family meal already had an assortment of dips. My favorites were the dolmas, fried cheese, rice pilaf, babaganoush, and tzatziki. Cafe Petra seems to be a regional chain that started in greater Houston with eight locations and counting (League City, Texas City, Pearland, Katy, Missouri City, Atascocita, St. Francisville and Baton Rouge, Louisiana-with Pasadena and Sugar Land to come). I love the decor and details they've put into the inside. They have nice seating outside too for when the weather cools down. The menu has a good selection. We ordered the combo gyro plates and I got the larger one that included the appetizers too. Portions were great and they serve each plate with a delicious salad. Very fresh! Service was good, although, I think the waitress was new and had to ask about a few things, but she was attentive throughout our dinner. My only critique is that the beef/lamb gyro was a bit salty for my liking. I look forward to trying the redfish dish next time. They have BYOB, so bring your wine, if you like it with dinner . They say their name and ask what you would like to drink and explain different drinks if you have questions. The food is very delicious and plentiful. We always take home yummy leftovers. Cafe Petra is a much needed and welcomed addition to the atascocita area. The atmosphere in the restaurant is really nice, they actually put quite a bit of effort to give the Mediterranean feel. Service is great, all the staff is very friendly and welcoming. My wife and I have ate here twice now and we have had the baba ghanoush, combination chicken and gyro plate, the lentil soup and the baklava cheesecake. Everything was delicious and the portions are very generous. We really enjoyed the baba ghanoush and both the chicken and gyro meat. Apparently they are byob too which is always welcomed in my opinion. Especially for a nice little cafe like this place. Unfortunately the food quality has went downhill. We drove 45 minutes, because the food and service was excellent on each of our prior visits. We ordered the gyro platter with fries, the fried cauliflower. It took less than 3 minutes, for all of our food and appetizers to come out. The gyro meat was old and dried, and the cauliflower had large chunks of garlic. It was not eatable. The manger did take the cost off of our ticket. The fries and feta salad were great. We tried a variety of plates on their lunch menu, kabobs, gyro's, hummus, soups, tzatziki, spaniko pitas, salad, rice, and then of course a dessert to go- truly, everything was so good! The items from the kids menu were tasty and hearty portioned. I actually ordered a to-go order as I was boxing up leftovers! You gotta go and try it out. Two things to think about for owners: It was really warm as the restaurant was full of guest, I'm sure they are still figuring out the AC situation. This small well decorated restaurant was much needed for the area. I came with a party of seven and everyone was pleased with their entrees. We collectively agreed that the fried cheese appetizer was amazing. Out of the 3 dips in the trio appetizer the garlic dip was the table's favorite. Food was served quickly and the staff were friendly. The only critique everyone had with their side greek salads was that the feta cheese was surprisingly spicy and some didn't enjoy that. I ordered the fattoush salad which that dressing was delicious. I wish they would toss their salad well with the dressing before serving. Everyone experienced a lot of dry lettuce and on the small plate its served on it was not easy to get a good mix. I personally wish that they would heat the pita bread for the dip appetizers or even better gave an option for pita chips. Stop lying about good reviews, this restaurant is not a Greek restaurant it's Lebanese. My visitation was abysmal; not once, or twice, but three times was a disappointed.
