Wow! Just left the tasting room for an incredible lunch. We had the crabcake sandwiches and a butter cake dessert. Our server Matt was exceptional, the food was delicious and fresh. Very happy we had lunch at the tasting room today, highly recommend. Atmosphere was beautiful and clean. Updated aug 3: we went back again! This time for dinner. It was amazing! Was my hubby's bday so we went all out and tried the lobster chowder, fried clams, lamb, scallops, lobster whipped potatoes, and creme brûlée. There's no better place to go in Frederick, MD for the perfect high end celebratory dinner! We enjoyed the lovely modern atmosphere and the menu had plenty of options for both my husband and I. After 15 years on my bucketlist. its sad to say this was a disappointment. We were promptly before our reservation time (7:15 on a Thursday 5/20) and had a friendly waitress see us right away. Apps came quick; crab dip was impeccable but the bread pieces served with it werent quite toasted and not quite soft? I wasnt sure what was going on with it but the fried green tomatoes were perfectly ripe, fried, and the sauce amazing!!! We waited a VERY very long time for the salads (Im guessing 30+ minutes) and just sat... and sat... the waitress did apologize for the long wait but I mean come on kitchen, its two salads that dont have house made caesar dressing or anything fancy....... It was an avg caesar salad. We each had 2 of the smallest croutons, and 1 small sliver of anchovies was placed on the salad (1... just 1). Main courses were a long long wait as well after the salads... we had the manager come and apologize as well as the waitress both saying the kitchen got really backed up. Things started going down hill.... it was hot and stuffy in the restaurant and we were just loosing our appetites waiting so long. The scallops dish were cooked well but two of them *incredibly* peppered and all scallops very very heavy handed with salt. The peas that were the side just were room temp and some were cold?? The dish was a hard miss. Veal ossobucco was a over cooked (should be pot roast tender), WAYYY too salty, and an absolute pairing mismatch with whatever the heck that avocado mush was? The taste of it was sharp, bitey and bitter, and didnt go with the dish at all.... the risotto side was overly salted as well and tasted like from a box. :( Our lobster mashed potatoes were forgotten all together and never made it out... and, my girlfriend called earlier in the week asking to make a note that it was for my birthday and to do something. Nothing happened apparently. Since dinner went south, way quick, we opted to just not say anything as we were starving at this point, didnt complain as we heard a complaint from another diner and a server(s) in the back just blasting them to each other. We were out on the first date in a long time and just didnt wanna deal with any drama so kept quiet. Also, I noticed as a build up of "dark" colors (I guess stains) on the long white cushioned bench seats towards the bar area... it needs to be steam cleaned. Theres no issue spending good $$$ on a dinner like this but we cut it short due to all the issues and just wanted to leave. I hope this review helps others. read more

Great impromptu dinner! After our initial choice for dinner seemed a little dull, The Tasting Room was conveniently located next door, which provided an upscale metropolitan vibe as soon as we walked in. The host was very dapper, and he quickly seated us...and our food was brought out in a timely manner and had an artistic presentation...overall, quite lovely. My only gripe: this place can be tight, and on numerous occasions, the wait staff had nearly missed collisions with one another. The Tasting Room is definitely a date night restaurant with its smooth ambiance and decadent menu, especially in the evening. We were very impressed with the Sunday brunch on a cold winter day! We arrived at 1125am and had no issue getting a table for 2 without a reservation. Our waiter was super friendly and helpful; he went above and beyond the call of duty when I let him know of my mild dairy allergy and worked directly with the chef to minimize or cut out any dairy products in my meal. In terms of what we ordered: Brussel sprouts to share -- soft and flavorful, yummy bacon bits, and definitely recommended! Omelette -- my hunch is that this is probably filled with seasonal vegetables; a large portion that my husband inhaled Breakfast nachos -- these have a more sophisticated name on the menu, but it is essentially soft tortilla chips on a layer of black beans and topped with ground chorizo, fried eggs (x2), salsa verde, and avocado. I couldn't finish all the chips, but it certainly my satisfied my craving for a Mexican flavored breakfast. The Tasting Room was busy but not hectic as we left around 1245. Definitely recommended on a visit--it also won the Best of Fredrick 2019-and I know we will certainly keep it in mind the next time we visit! read more

I am absolutely in love with the Tasting Room! We went for our anniversary and were immediately treated to complimentary champagne and a nice loaf of bread. The ambiance at The Tasting Room is truly charming and warm, and it manages to strike a balance between extremely upscale and welcoming to the t-shirt and leggings brunch crowd. It was really a pleasure being waited on by the gracious and doting staff. We ordered two dishes off of the brunch menu and were not let down. I ordered the Chicken and Waffles and my dining date destroyed the crab dip and Eggs Benedict. Both were extremely well prepared and made with wholesome ingredients, we came away with looser belts and happy stomachs. I just had the best chicken I have ever had in my life. It was a couple of thick slices of a very tender breast and a to-die-for crispy chicken thigh. It came with peas and carrots in a pot pie-like sauce. Absolutely amazing. My daughter got the steak and it was cooked and seasoned perfectly. I wasn't sure what wine to order and the owner was kind enough to make a few recommendations. Two I had never heard of and a Chardonnay. I tried all three and ended up with the chard. I had a Caesar salad, the dressing was good and I love a Caesar with an anchovy on top and there it was. Being in Maryland I felt I had to get the crab cakes and they were fab.... All crab with just a bit of binder and served with homemade cocktail and remolaude sauces. They did not disappoint one bit. The Tasting Room has a very nice list of custom cocktails and infused drinks. While I did not try one on this visit, they sounded quite yummy! Service was as one would expect at this price point. I went to The Tasting Room with my sister tonight. It was my first visit. My first impressions were positive. The decor is modern, but the tables are kind of close together, so it can get pretty intimate with the people at the next table. The hostess was very friendly and our waiter was attentive. We ordered the calamari and it was probably the best I have ever had. It was perfectly cooked and came submerged in a good broth. My sister had the lobster ravioli and it was delicious. I had veal two ways with porcini polenta. The best I have ever had. For dessert, I had molten chocolate cake... It was very good but I think the one my daughters made was better. My sis had key lime cheesecake with candied lime zest. It was very good also. Overall it was a very decent experience and i will return to sample more of the eclectic menu!!! read more

Dined early on a Saturday night, good atmosphere and super nice staff. We started with steak tartar which was more like a very cold marinated meat salad, the meat was perfectly chopped and tender but unfortunately I couldn't enjoy any beefy taste because it was drowning in a heavy vinaigrette. Second course was beautifully seared scallops, but again in an unfortunate sauce of over sweet fennel broth. Our server Marley was excellent and helped me pick some new wines that we really enjoyed. Recently we had the best meal we've had anywhere in quite awhile, at The Tasting Room. Both the food and service were superb. I hope they do not try and fix it, because its not broken. Their prices may make this more of a special occasion place than a frequent "go-to" but we'll certainly be back. Cuisine is best described as "New American" with an imaginative flair typical of "farm-to-table" restaurants. The crab dip was excellent and big enough for four people (too much for two to share), complimentary bread was nice and interesting. What was really cool were the six different groupings of "wine flights" samplers. Two people with similar wine tastes, and unafraid of one another's germs, easily could share a (generous quantities) wine flight. The separate glasses also come with a placemat that explains what-is-what, a very helpful and often overlooked aspect of "flights" of anything. My crab cakes were excellent, as was my wife's veal tenderloin. Mine came with great potatoes in a sauce, and a fine caesar salad that our outstanding waitress (ask for Cynthia - memorably professional) helpfully warned about the anchovies therein. I'm a big eater and could not eat it all. Next time, no crab dip. On the topic of price, the on-premises menu had higher prices than the online (Open Menu) version by a few dollars here and a few dollars there. I don't begrudge them this, but informed customers should know. The foregoing, with tax and tip (Cynthia got 25% out of us, which we about never do) set us back $140. So no, we can't do this regularly and few people can. But for that special occasion, you really can't go wrong at The Tasting Room. read more

Excellent first experience! The ambiance is stunning and perfectly romantic for my birthday dinner with my husband. We started with the shrimp and the fried green tomatoes which were both tender and battered to a crispy perfection. I paired my meal with the earthy red wine flight which went really well with the filet mignon. The filet had a perfect crust, was perfectly medium rare and was served on a sizzling cast iron. My husband had the same entree which was also perfectly cooked to medium rare. The potatoes au gratin were buttery and smooth and melt-in-your-mouth. We split the Namelaka for dessert (Columbian dark chocolate with raspberry and purple potato sponge cake) and it was just to die for. Stan was our server and he was very knowledgeable of the menu, provided perfect suggestions, and was very attentive. We most definitely will return to the Tasting Room. read more

My wife and I were able to escape for a date night over Valentines weekend and we ended up at The Tasting Room. We hadn't been there since we moved up here about 6 years ago, so we were curious to see if it was as good as we remembered. It certainly was. I was craving steak and I opted for their bone-in ribeye. It's easily one of the best steaks - if not the best steak - I've had in Frederick. If Tasting Room wasn't such a fancy joint, I probably would have gone caveman style and gnawed on the bone.
