We stumbled upon The Tasting Room and we definitely lucked out! We sat at the bar for appetizers and drinks and ended up ordering their white wine flights and the burrata. The burrata great and we loved trying new whites that we've never had before. The service was good and I love that they have indoor and outdoor seating options - it's a very bright and pretty inside and a must try date night spot in Frederick! read more

I have been all over the US and dined at so many "hot spots" or classics and in my mind, no place we go can hold a candle to The Tasting Room not just for delicious and inventive menu items but world class service and care that goes above and beyond on every visit. While there may be another restaurant in town with a famous chef and it's good but in my opinion doesn't come close to the amazing evenings we have at TR. last night was no exception. Just a perfect evening that we badly needed. No matter where we end up in the country, The Tasting Room will always be "our" restaurant. read more

My friend and I came here for mid-day drinks and dessert and had an excellent experience! The space is beautiful and full of natural light. We got there around 1:30pm on a Saturday and had to wait for about 15 minutes which was no problem. We ordered the Caramelized Banana Cheesecake (with milk chocolate chantilly, ginger snap, and coffee ice cream) to split, which was SO delicious. To drink, I got the Seasonal Apple Pie Moonshine (whiskey, apple cider, ginger, and mulling spices) warmed up, which was perfect after we had spent the morning hiking in the snow near Frederick. If I'm back in the area, I would definitely return for a full meal! read more

Great service and delicious food! The crab dip was amazing and the lamb chops were superb!

Worth the drive on a lovely weekend and delicious food. Check the hours that it's open. You don't want to drive there and find it closed!

There are many excellent restaurants in Frederick, but for food quality and ambience, The Tasting Room is the best. Very service oriented. For special occasions and general dining. Romantic, but a casual vibe. Never had a bad meal here. Consistently outstanding for food and beverages. A neighborhood gem. read more

Another gem in Frederick, MD. Decided to try this corner all glass restaurant for our saturday brunch. They have outdoor seating but heat outside feeling like 100degrees, we opted to dine indoors. It was a nice cozy little restaurant with its linen covered tables that makes me think date night. Servers were engaging and attentive. Food was excellent and beautifully plated. We got fried green tomatoes, pblt sandwich, fish and chips, and molten butter cake for dessert. Fried green tomatoes had a light batter and was hot and crunchy with remoulade sauce topped with corn chutney looked and tasted delicious. PBLT sandwich - pork belly, bacon , lettuce and tomato sandwich. It should have a sign that says 'Eat me!' So sinfully good Fish and chips- light beer-battered cod came with 3 sauces, caramel fish sauce, tartar sauce and spicy sesame aioli. Another good choice. Molten butter cake - warm butter cake with a nice crust and lemon glaze. As I said earlier this place reminds me of date night - I see a lovely dinner in our future. read more

My wife and I came to Tasting Room with two friends to celebrate a birthday. I was able to make the reservations via OpenTable seamlessly. This was our first time in Historic Frederick and we were pleasantly surprised by how lively the streets are. Street parking is available for free on Sundays and there is paid garage parking across the street. When we sat down we were given the house bread and butter which had the restaurants "TR" logo embossed in it. From the brunch menu we ordered the following: Salmon cake benedict Filet mignon Steak and eggs Truffle fries Chocolate tartufo Chocolate cheesecake Every dish was executed well. The salmon had a great crisp on it, as did the filet. I ordered mine medium and moved it over to a serving plate since the steak arrived on a sizzling plate. The truffle fries were served along a delicious garlic aioli. When it came time for dessert we couldn't decide which was better. I recommend trying it all depending on what your sweet tooth prefers. Overall, TR is a great place for a date night or intimate group setting. I'll definitely be adding this to my rotation. read more

This is a nice restaurant. Flavor was incredible on everything we ordered. Both appetizers were delicious. The lobster chowder had so much flavor. The steak I ordered was cooked perfectly and had a wonderful flavor to it. Service was excellent. Would certainly return! read more

This has become a staple in downtown Frederick. My favorite thing about this restaurant is that it's never straightforward. They always have their own spin on food and cocktails. A great example was their fish and chips; you normally think I large beer battered fried cod and fries, but not here. I was in love with the creativity they had in their sauces and spices that went into making this fish and chips something new. Their wine selection is incredible, and the servers knew a lot about the variety and helped us pick out a bottle to match exactly what we wanted. We went with another couple and it was a great time. I highly recommend this for groups looking for a elevated but less formal outing. read more

The Tasting Room is an excellent brunch option. For starters we had the great service and recommendations from Jess. We wound up ordering the Spanish octopus, the burrata, and the duck soup. The soup was great for a rainy day. Nice an hearty. The octopus was accompanied with lamb and was a nice addition to the dish. Hands down the best bite we had was the burrata. The rosemary bread made in house was a great touch. read more

The worst steak ever. Service poor. Staff very rude. I would not recommend - go to White Castle for a better meal.

Valentine's Day Dinner. This was my first time at the Tasting Room. I had heard so much about it that I think I was expecting too much. First, the decor was upscale minimalist. Second, it is much smaller than I thought, but comfortable. It only went up from here. The Hostess, Manager and Wait Staff were friendly and helpful. We felt very welcomed. The menu is not huge but has a nice variety. I regretted not having an appetizer. I had a blood orange martini which was a wonderfully tasty cocktail. We had the halibut and scallops. Not much food for the price, but both dishes were very good. The halibut is mild and paired with flavorful but also mild veggies/pancetta. I don't like spicy food so it was perfect for me. The sauce with the scallops was very tasty. The Brussels sprouts could have been seasoned better. Brussels can handle complex flavors but these were bland. We finished with the butter cake which was lemony goodness. I will go back but I think I'll try the rack of lamb and the crab dip. Overall I don't think the food is truly worth the price but I do recommend The Tasting room. read more

Nice selection of wine both by the glass and the bottle. We generally sit in the bar on a weeknight. Interesting and varied menu choices, everything is well prepared, service is attentive, but not overly familiar or smothering. They just started regional wine tasting dinners that are fun. If you see duck confit, give it a try - not normally my cup of tea, but it was amazing! read more

I ordered carry out: lobster ravioli ($20), crab dip ($18), filet mignon ($50). I wasn't expecting so little with the lobster ravioli! Normally I like lobster/squid pasta/ravioli, but this was not worth it for the portion and cost. The crab dip was good, I'd order that instead of the lobster ravioli again. The filet mignon was good. Although the side of potatoes au gratin and the crab dip tasted about the same. I called hours in advance to pick up before their closing time (8pm). I was there at about 7:45pm, waited at the bar until 10 past 8pm, was told it'd be ready in about 5 minutes after I got there. I'm not sure if I'll want to spend around $100 again based on the experience and portions of food I received. read more

Great selection of browns and great manhattans. Fresh and friendly staff with a sense of elegance no matter the time.

I've lived around Frederick for a few years now and I've always heard great things about tasting room, but I've never had the opportunity to try it out myself.. So glad I finally got to! The menu is very unique and creative and the staff is wonderful. I wish they were open earlier and prices were lower... but that's just Frederick I guess! read more

Took my girlfriend for her birthday and wow. Tuna Tartar, a new item, done uniquely wonderful. Loved the classic salad before an amazing bone-in pork chop and delicious lamb chops. Always order the potatoes au gratin and just add the mushrooms, because mushrooms. Red wine by the glass: their cabernet was superb. The young man Zach that hosted us was on point and the whole kitchen deserves a round of applause. Thanks Tasting Room, will definitely return. read more

Yet another excellent experience at this establishment. We had a 5:45 pm reservation this last Saturday and immediately were sat at our table. Major applause on their social distancing for tables within the restaurant as well as outside. Very quickly we were asked whether we preferred tap or sparkling water and we almost immediately knew our wine & food orders. We had a bottle of the 2014 Worthy "Sophia's Cuvee," a Cab. Sauv. and it was perfect to be paired with our meal. To start we ordered the Beef Carpaccio, which was excellent. The bleu cheese and arugula pair very nicely with the filet mignon! Bread was also served to the table. It was both soft and fragrant. The olive oil, and what I believe was rosemary and garlic, really shined through! As well as Caesar salads to go along with our entrees. For my entree, I ordered the braised short rib. It fell apart, and was so absolutely tender and perfect! The truffle hash and pea purée made each bite to die for. My partner ordered the Colorado lamb and it was equally as delicious. We exchanged a few bites and it too my all to not steal the entire dish. The sweet potato mash was absolutely velvety!! For desert we decided on the molten butter cake, to share. It was served warm and was also very good. Though, after such a savory meal the sweet and tangy almost overwhelmed me. The flavor and texture was delightful. We always look forward to a meal here, and will absolutely be back! read more

We came up to Frederick for the art festival. Always fun. We decided to have lunch at the Tasting Room where we've had good meals before. This time while the restaurant is nice, the service was good and the food presentation was good, the only good thing was the French fries. The lamb burger was heavily spiced, masking any lamb flavor and was cooked to a crumbly death. I ordered it medium rare. When talking to the waiter who came to check on us, we got a nonsensical answer about lamb being a temporate meat. We cook lamb burgers all the time to medium rare. If you can't make it the way it was ordered say so. It should have been comped but of course it wasn't. My wife got the steak lemongrass salad. Presented nicely, no taste. Not sure what's going on here but also overheard other patrons not pleased with there orders. This is not the place we've enjoyed other times and now we won't be back again. Why spend $50 for food not cooked well. Or in my case waaay to well. read more

The Tasting Room has been put on a pedestal in the local area as the best, most elegant and fancy restaurant in the older town of Frederick, Maryland by locals, critics and even other reviewers on this website. While the statement is true of it being the most elegant in Frederick. It is not so fancy that scare off guests because of it. The ambiance is nice. Fancier looking white table cloth, candle lit tables, leatherback menu, ornate gold ceiling, pretty much the look for any "fine-dining" french restaurant. While at first glance, the general ambiance makes the restaurant seem like the vibes would be more haute and foufou than they actually are. The restaurant still features a prominent sports bar section and generally louder volume which makes the restaurant look and sound more approachable in my opinion. You can still have your fancy elegant nights if you so desire, just ask to be seated away from the bar and it will be quieter. The service here was excellent. Very attentive all the time. They took very diligent care to warn one of my peers about items on the menu that would cause for him to have an allergic reaction and even provided substitutions as well. I should also mention service was quick. For my party and I to be: seated, drinks & appetizers ordered and served was around 15-20 minutes. Now the food, I was able to taste two appetizers: the Crab Dip and the Beef Carpaccio. The crab dip was tasty with the rich cheese sauce and old bay, but overall a bit overpriced for what you were paying for was essentially just a regular cheese sauce with a small amount of crab meat inside spiced with a ton of old bag seasoning. Crab Dip is a really common find in Maryland, and this just feels like a very average version unfortunately. The Beef Carpaccio was a good dish overall, great balance of flavors with the pepper crust, the salt from the capers and acidity from the shallots, but the frisée salad was an unneeded component in the dish adding no prominent flavors or textures. Also the crostini to eat the beef carpaccio with was cut a bit too thick before roasting making the crostini as hard as a rock. Moreover, I'd still happily order the Beef Carpaccio dish, just skip the crostini and use the softer sour dough that they hand out as my bread of choice but the Crab Dip would only be if my peers would want to share it. As for the entree's, I shared with a peer the braised Short Rib and roasted Rack of Lamb. Both of these dishes were much better received in my opinion. The short rib was pull apart tender with an ultra rich and flavorful demi-glace sauce that I made sure to polish off. The variance of texture from the toothy oyster mushrooms, the crunchy potato pavé and the tender meat itself made for a nice contrast. The lamb dish was initially a tad rare but the excellent service and came in quickly changing the cook to a more medium. The lamb dish also having a very rich sauce but had a stronger tang. The sides also a very strong contrast in texture. Highly recommend them both. For dessert, I would highly recommend splitting the Crème Brûlée with another person. The dish is very flavorful with the fruit atop and the rich crème brûlée itself makes for a great combination except it is too sweet and heavy for one person to finish in my opinion. Also since it is more expensive, if you split the dish it makes it more worth it I guess. Overall, the Tasting Room is a great restaurant in the downtown Frederick area with larger portions compared to similar "elegant french restaurants". It can be for both a friendly gathering at the bar or more formal occasions at their other tables. The food is not so innovative or really out there in terms of experimentation of flavor but it is usually comforting nonetheless. I would go again if there was an occasion to go, but not alone on purpose. read more

The Tasting Room (TR, as stamped on their pats of butter) is where my workplace hosted our holiday luncheon and it was worth the drive (especially because I was lucky enough to get in on a car pool). The location is in downtown Frederick and there is both metered street parking and paid garage parking (I did not see any cost-free parking spots) and was dissatisfied that the restaurant didn't offer validation. Jeff was our waiter and he could not have been friendlier or funnier! We were a fairly large lunch group of 10 and he did a great job making sure our dining experience was great. He, unfortunately, could not do anything about the poor choice in blinds the restaurant chose. Two co-workers sitting at the window-facing half of our table were consistently blinded by the afternoon sun. The staff was unable to offer anything to fix this issue so my co-workers wore sunglasses... Indoors. During the meal. On to the food: The meal was exquisite! I sampled many appetizers: The heavenly lobster mashed potatoes (huge pieces of mouthwatering lobster in a cloud of mashed potatoes), the Oy Vey, which was a velvety smooth chopped chicken liver mousse with a tantalizingly salty duck fat seal, served with crostini apple compote, the warm and cheesy crab dip with crispy crostini... Even the complimentary house bread was delicious! I also indulged in a Mock-tail, the Spice Road. The blend of pineapple, grapefruit, orange flower water, and ginger beer was unlike I had before. Quite bubbly, but also had a bitter undertone on a count of the ginger beer. For my entree, I had the Argentina Power lunch: I went with a medium-well filet mignon. It was accompanied with a red chimichurri sauce which added the just the right amount of heat and crispy French fries (I had the option to substitute with another vegetable side, but let's face it, fries are my favorite vegetable). My medium-well filet was a stiffer cut than my sunglasses wearing co-worker's medium-rare, but of course, that is expected. Hers cut like butter, people! For dessert I ordered the Creme Brûlée. Oh boy, that caramel crust was a gorgeous thick layer of crunchy goodness and the smooth, rich Brûlée was delicious and thick. Thanks for an amazing meal, TR! read more

Service:5/5- very good..food took a little long time but service was good Food:...honestly I judge the restaurant by the free bread that they give in the beginning ...it's a $$$ place and they give cold/hard bread...sigh.. and then to be completely honest...pasta/filet mignon are the most popular??? But ...it taste like any other pasta or steak. It didn't taste bad! But will I pay $$$ to eat this? No. read more

I would definitely award a 5 for this great restaurant in Frederick. The one issue I bring to the table is the charge I received on my bill for blue cheese olives in my Martini. Paying over $40 for an entree with the filet mignon at $60, just increase the price of the Martini to account for olives. Staff and service is great and the food is phenomenal. read more

The variety of wines and ever changing experimental cocktails keeps us coming back. They respect reservations and will actually keep a table empty for you instead of seating someone, which is rare. The service is always good. The food is typically good. The lamb burger was slightly over seasoned but not inedible. Prices are slightly on the more expensive side but still affordable. My only critiques are some seats are in direct sunlight, making it hard to see when the sun is shining right in your eye line. Also, if you are seated by the side entrance, the draft during cold weather is noticeable. For someone who is always hot, I was actually getting cold. My last critique is when a table was being reset behind us, the white table cloth put off a good bit of dust and lint. I was glad we didn't have food on the table at the time or I may have been slightly annoyed. Regardless, we will return. read more

We have been going to The Tasting Room for years. We just recently went twice in one week and I must say, I am always so happy with the experience. The new chef is doing a great job. We went for brunch and enjoyed the shareable options and some entrees but they really shine at lunch and dinner. If you like filet mignon, theirs is unparalleled down to the accompaniments. Last night four of us each ordered one and as a family who usually gets four different entrees that we can share, that is truly saying something. Other current menu stand outs for me included the duck wings, panko shrimp, scallop crudo, Pernod and cockles, foie mousse, and octopus. read more

We dined here recently for a family birthday. The food is overpriced. Two of us ordered the filet, which is $60. We both ordered medium rare...what arrived was medium and medium well. When I mentioned this, the server suggested I cut into the middle where it was not as cooked, which is not an acceptable solution. They ended up taking half off of one of the filets. The Brussels sprouts were oily and not very flavorful other than the pieces of bacon. The chocolate cheesecake was delicious. They also brought out a scoop of ice cream with a candle, which was nice. My teens enjoyed the mocktails. Overall I was disappointed and don't plan on returning. read more

October 25th, 2019 will be a birthday dinner I will be happy to forget about one day. I made reservations via OpenTable, and left a note indicating that two people (myself and a friend) were both celebrating a birthday. The beginning of the night started great, the Hostess confirmed the information about the birthday, and selected a perfect location in the back of the restaurant beside the window for some privacy. When my friend showed up a gentleman I assume was the manager took and hung up her coat insuring we'd see our server soon. This gentleman was at the Hosting desk with the young lady, and knew of the birthday that was spoken of. All that was to set up the drop off in the quality of service we experienced once the server actually made it to the table. He started off well enough, asking about any allergens. I have a slight tomato allergy, and my friend worries about it more than I do, so I told the young man. Obviously this information was not passed to the kitchen as both the started and entree have tomatoes added to the dish, and could have easily been taken out of the dish. It's not the first time in life I've had to remove tomatoes from a dish, so I was fine. It just begs the question why ask in the first place? Neither myself or my friend are big on surprises, but this was a special dinner more so for her, and I wanted her to enjoy something different. There was no display of celebration, which would have been fine, had I not seen another table get a full celebratory display as I received my check. At this point I'm left to think the server dropped the ball because after paying the bill I had to find her coat which was located on a hook that wasn't disclosed when the jacket was taken at the beginning of the night. BLUF: The food and drinks are amazing. I ordered Starter: Fresh Pork Belly Drink: Penicillin Entree: Monkfish The pork belly was good, the tomatoes are not necessary for the dish, I assume they are there to add acid since the belly is fatty, but they are not needed. Overall it was a good starter, just don't expect to share. This is a one and done for me, I've had better. The "Penicillin" is a drink for SERIOUS SCOTCH FANS. This is not a drink to play around with, there is a strong peat flavor that I'm sure the casual drinker might not enjoy. I had two, so I was very happy with the balance and complexity of the drink. I was excited to try monkfish for the first time, I've heard wonderful things such as it being "poor mans lobster", I never wanted to cook it myself because I didn't want to ruin it, so this was my opportunity to have it done right. The flavor of the dish was great, but the fish itself didn't live up to my expectation. I won't hold that over the kitchen, but I should have gone for the lamb or pork rib chop She Orderd Starter: Spanish Shrimp Drink: Lemonade Vodka based drink (The name escapes me, and is not located on the website for reference.) Entree: Organic Salmon I can't really write a review for anyone else, so I'm not 100% sure how her overall meal was, but she did state that something on the salmon dish made it very sweet to the point that she almost didn't want to see it. read more
