Interesting place the Summit Cafe is. One plus is that it is off the beaten track on the Cougar Creek side of Canmore with a great view of the mountains from the patio. Once inside one lines up in the 'cattle chute' like entry to order and pay and then proceed to a table. On this particular date and time the tables were crowded with people jut siting all the way to dirty un-bussed tables from people that had left long ago. Clearly, the philosophy might be a cafeteria style where one is expected to clear and clean their own table - although from the prices asked for food I could not see a representative discount for the clear your own table. Food was average at best with a premium price being charged on all menu items. The coffee was good and hot with a great amount of bite (mountain coffee!). My suggestion would be to use this as a snack stop - coffee and muffin rather than an entree place....again, the view outside from the patio is spectacular. read more

Used yelp to find this place. Had the Amigos (basically Mexican flavored eggs bene) - was really good - salsa is just a bit on the spicy side and flavorful (nothing to be scared of) - with melted cheese and guacamole on top. The hash browns are unique but they were good as well. Only minor complaint would be the coffee sizing and seemingly lack of refills - which is a little odd for a small breakfast place, but the coffee was very good. read more

Cute place, good service and food. I LOVE breakfast for any meal; was excited to find this place thanks to yelp. Unfortunately eggs are their main ingredient on their breakfast menu; I hate eggs. Decided to try their turkey wrap panini with tomato basil soup on the side. Sandwich was good. Pass on the soup, it was plain weird. Choose their hash browns instead! Coffee is good. My husband and I stopped for a quick breakfast last week during our vacation before we headed in to Banff. This was a great little breakfast spot! I ordered the huevos rancheros and he ordered some plate with eggs, ham, and toast. It's fairly expensive for breakfast but it was also a lot of food. My dish was amazing. My husband ordered a blueberry scone to go and it had no taste which was unfortunate. It needed better blueberries or a little sugar or cinnamon or something to give it flavor. It's also very small inside. The service was very good and it seemed like everyone working there were women which I thought was pretty cool! read more

Went to Canmore for some tests at the Hospital, then decided to go for Breakfast at the Summit Cafe after reading the reviews. Was not disappointed, everything that has been said was true, wife had the omelette, came with toast, home made hash browns with fresh bacon bits and some fruit. One of the best omelettes ever. I had breakfast burrito, came with all the fixings and hash browns also, both dishes where huge with full body taste. Service was super fast and very friendly. Will definitely return. P.S. Stop by the store next door for some home made baked goods to take home or eat on your way back. Donuts were really yummy!! read more

The staff are friendly, the atmosphere is electric, and the food is tasty. It's a busy little café off the beaten path with a delicious all-day breakfast. I had the Huevos Rancheros, and it was excellent. The brewed coffee is tasty as well. Don't expect to sit inside and read a book for the afternoon, it's rather crowded, but we had no trouble finding a seat. Their table marker system is entertaining, especially for children. read more

I have overlooked the fact that Summit has mediocre food and the worst coffee in Canmore and continued to come here for years because of the friendly environment and close proximity to my home. Unfortunately I went in this past Wednesday morning with my partner and had one of the most horrific dining experiences of my life. We arrived just before 9am and ordered an amigos and a huevos racheros (as well as coffee)- we were one of three tables (the other two single diners) - our food took just under 45 minutes to show up. When it did, I asked if I would be able to have some sour cream - the very rude Eastern European waitress told me absolutely not. Per the menu board my breakfast did not come with sour cream. I looked on the menu board and I could purchase a side of sour cream for $1.65 - with a 45 minute wait I would hope that they would be accommodating or at least offer the option for me to purchase sour cream. No. I then cut into my Huevos Racheros and the eggs were cooked to the point that the yolks were chalk. I brought it to the kitchen and before I could say anything to the cook the Eastern European waitress stormed up to me and with an eye roll and a sigh proclaimed "well what now?!" - I explained that, per the menu board, my eggs should be easy over. I showed her the eggs and she told me that they were fine. I persisted and they made me a new plate. It took under 10 minutes. There was no apology, she threw my plate on the table and walked away. I have NEVER been so disrespected in a restaurant and am disgusted with my experience. I have recommended the Summit many times and will be redacting those recommendations one by one. read more

This place was busy, cramped, and the food was OK. Unfortunately the staff seemed preoccupied and had a "can't be bothered" attitude that made us feel unwelcome and cramped as we tried to enjoy our breakfast. People kept walking in, keeping a steady line of people occupying the inside of the small cafe. Coffee was good and I think on a slow day this place could be quite charming, however, I wouldn't go out of your way to visit this place. read more

Very quaint little coffee shop and restaurant. Breakfast was amazing and well priced for the portion size. Limited seating means you might have to wait for a table or if it's nice sit outside on the little patio, but if you find yourself waiting know that it's worth the wait. Their lunch menu of sandwiches looked really tasty, next time we're through Canmore we plan on trying them for lunch. read more

An adorable little restaurant tucked into an unassuming shopping center. There was a small line outside the door, but we hoped that this meant that it was worth it. Boy were we right! The lovely lady at the counter was delightful. We ordered one of the specials, a breakfast panini, a breakfast burrito, kids french toast and kids breakfast special. Everything was amazing and our kids left nothing on their plates. We especially enjoyed the breakfast burrito. It was a nice size and great for sharing. The coffee was delicious! We also loved the characters they give out to signify your order (Minnie Mouse, the Hulk, an inflatable shark). We'll definitely go back before our trip ends! read more

We stopped in on a busy Friday morning. The menu was a solid standard-issue breakfast menu. We ordered and took a seat. The restaurant had a strong local/family vibe, which made for a pleasant atmosphere. Our food was very good - nothing blew us away, but we left with smiles on our faces. 4/5 because their menu isn't giant, and while we weren't complaining about our meal, it didn't bring us a food experience that wowed. read more

Great breakfast spot people are friendly and it's a casual atmosphere. Menu shows Mexican influences and they offered our kids a toy dinosaur to play with that doubled as our table marker when order was ready. I ordered Amigos, guacamole was fresh and real potatoes done on grill were a nice touch. Only downside is the place isn't very big so go early or during off hours. But, the staff is super friendly, and the location is sweet, as their patio looks out for Cougar Creek towards the Three Sisters. The patio is a great place to chill with friends and drink coffee. They have a variety of baked goods including pretty decent cinnamon buns for that matter on weekends. read more

Pros: 1) Delicious food 2) Great views while eating breakfast 3) Friendly staff 4) Great ambience for a small cafe restaurant, kid-friendly Cons: 1) Unsteady tables (spilled hot coffee all over my leg because the table legs weren't even) 2) Tiny indoor area with limited seating - expect a wait; definitely expect to be eating very close to your neighbors unless you're in a booth 3) This place is understaffed which is a shame - the staff is very hardworking and are trying to do as much as possible, but don't expect the food to come out extremely fast. This isn't a "quick bite and go" restaurant. Took about 20 minutes for our breakfast to come out. read more
