Brownie

This small bakery was such a gem! I liked their baked goods so much I went twice on my three days there! The Cronut was so good and even better when you get there early. I don't know what they dip it in but it almost tasted like butter and maple syrup, YUM. The exterior of the cronut was crispy and the inside soft, oozing with butter. Don't skip the gigantic brownie. It was so rich and melted in our mouths. I forgot how many different kind of chocolates was in there but it was super chocolatey! I also grabbed a bag of the chocolate chip cookies. Also delicious! The blueberry pastry that looked like a toaster strudel was a bit dry. Would be great with coffee though, I bet. There were many other options, we wish we had more space in our stomach to try everything. The grocery side was clean. Small space but had most things you might need like snacks and Canadian/lcoal frozen ready to eat meals!

Walnut covered chocolate brownie

The best brownie I've ever eaten bar none! The croissant glazed donuts are absolutely sinful. Great little grocery too! The ladies who work at this happy little shop are so fun and exuberant!!!

They didn't have any vegetarian sandwiches ready in the display, but the staff were so kind and made one specially for me. It had grilled onion, eggplant, roasted bell pepper, spinach, and pesto, and it was SO good! There are a few tables and benches right outside to enjoy your meal with an amazing view! We also grabbed a spinach cheese pastry to go, my husband got a breakfast bagel sandwich that he really enjoyed, and we picked up a quinoa salad from their prepackaged options. Everything was delicious. Friendly staff, quick service, and lots of other snacks and goodies to browse inside the market. Parking is a little meh, there's paid parking right outside, around $2.50 for 30 minutes from what I remember. Perfect little grab-and-go spot before a hike!

I have spent many a birthday or anniversary at a local Grocery Outlet or favorite Health Food Store, Forget Disneyland - grocery stores are where the real magic happens. And Rusticana is one such blessed spot. We had just arrived in Canada in the late evening and I wasn't having much luck at two bigger grocery stores in Calgary. There was a staleness about them. They didn't feel right. And so driving through Canmore - my husband suggested I see if there were any grocery/health stores open in the area. It was nearing 11 in the evening and most of the area was quiet. I was surprised to see that there was indeed one darling store open - Rusticana. I had a good feeling - the moment I read its name aloud - and proudly announced to my husband: "This is the one." We pulled up and I ran out. It was close to their closing time, but the kind man behind the counter smiled at me and encouraged me to look around. The place was beautifully curated with magical grocery gems everywhere. I kept on ooohing and aahing down every aisle. There was non dairy milk, specialty fresh meats, freshly baked goods, and soooo much more. There was so much goodness packed into such a cute space. I could have spent hours in Rusticana - but I quickly grabbed some fun finds and made my way to the counter to pay. Pure happiness beamed from my face. We went to many other grocery stores throughout our time in Canada - but none spoke to me quite the same way that lovely Rusticana did. If you're in the area and looking for a treat - stop in here. Trust.

I put my overpriced cashews back on the shelf and explained that not washing hands and using the wash room was not a good policy. The prices are much higher than Savon's organic section so I will save money and support human rights and dignity. I am reaching out to Annette Bronsch, Manager and will update this if this discriminatory policy is changed.

I've been a resident, weekender and seasonal Canmore person so I've always been glad they are there. I think I switched when Marra's closed? The good: Nutters has almost everything you could want in the both the organic & restrictive diet realm (and over the years, I've gone from Vegan to Paleo and crosses in between). The bad: They don't get enough traffic for me to trust their bulk items anymore. I've had more moldy bulk items over the years than I care to think about. I guess they are expensive too but it seemed worth it just to have them there. I've always tried to shop here to show my support for their business but after today, I give up. I always seem to have to go to the bathroom and they will never let me. When I was pregnant, I almost didn't make it and abandoned my stuff. FFWD 4 years to today; I had to leave my cart and take my 4 year old to the courthouse to use the toilet. I came back bc I couldn't bear starting again, but I'm not doing it anymore. I will use Safeway, farmers market and on-line. It is just too inconvenient to shop for a family there when you have to travel and drag your kids around for the toilet. I just have way less time and patience now that I'm a mom.
