This is a charming and very cute boutique hotel. I love the colorful walls and the simple fixtures that make everything look neat and put together. The staff was very friendly and accommodating during my stay. My room was clean and neat and there were no issues. I wished there was room service available, but there is a restaurant in the lobby for anyone who wants to grab something to eat. The hotel is also conveniently right next to Pike Place Market and is walking distance to the ferry, shops, entertainment etc. Unfortunately I didn't get to enjoy the rooftop since it was raining the whole week, but I'd love to visit again soon. read more

I liked this hotel and the didn't have any real issues to complain about. My only discomfort was when I checked in and when I would come and go. The staff behind the counter had a major staring problem as if they had never seen a black person before. They wouldn't greet me or say anything but just stare! The only friendly people were the security guards at the door. If you have ever been a service member (i.e) like me .. you know what that's about. Overall I witnessed the staff waive and greet other people without a problem, so if you happen to be Caucasian this is a great hotel for you. read more

We stayed at the state hotel for 2 nights and what we loved the most were: -location: it was just 1 block from pike marketplace making it so convenient to walk and explore -the staff was very friendly -there was hot coffee each morning -the room was very nice and had a modern feel We stayed on the 7th floor and whenever we approached the elevator, we got such a spectacular view of the pike marketplace. They also have a small rooftop area on the 8th floor with some seating and tables, which offered a great view as well. The hotel lobby is connected to Ben Paris, a modern restaurant brunch/dinner spot with a bar. It was really convenient to pop into Ben Paris for their happy hour on Saturday from 4-5pm at the bar and head out to our plans from there. The only thing that I felt was missing was an in-room fridge. I'm the kind of person that often has leftover food and likes to keep my drinks chilled, so I felt that was the only missing aspect from our hotel stay. Other than that, we very much enjoyed our stay here and would recommend this spot. read more

Stayed 4 nights and moved rooms 4 times. I originally booked top floor balcony. A nice big room facing the city, but was unable to sleep there because the HVAC was directly above the room and practically vibrating the walls!?!? I moved down to a lower floor, and following day was talked into another top floor, water facing room at the other side of the building. Unfortunately also very loud. It really is insane. I eventually was told "people who have trouble sleeping often complain" .... But, I don't have trouble sleeping. FYI, the rooms are not all the same or have the same bathroom, so Im suggesting future guests go up and take a look at the room before finalizing check in. That being said, everything else was smooth sailing. great location, good breakfast, lovely staff, parking... etc. read more

I loved staying at this hotel! Here's why: -really nice pastries and yogurt for breakfast -the restaurant in the left side of the lobby (Ben Paris) was super accommodating! My spouse and I wanted to pop in just for a drink and an appetizer but they were full with reservations. Totally understandable. But then one of the amazing waiters overheard us talking to the hostess and offered to bring us the drinks to the other side of the lobby - where you check in and there's some really nice cozy seating. -it's walking distance from a lot of great tourist sites. literally around the corner from Pike Place Market. 25 minutes to either Pioneer Sq or the Space Needle and about 20 to the ferry and ferris wheel. -the hallway wall paper was gorgeous! -the rooms were modern and very clean. huge showers. read more

We stayed here right after our cruise returned from Alaska. We weren't sure what to expect since the area in downtown Seattle seemed like it could be a little sketchy (first time visitor looking to return!) But the hotel and the accompanying restaurant (Ben Paris) are great! The room was spacious and well kept. It also had air conditioning which was a must for us. It was close to pretty much everything we wanted to see (literally a less than 5 min walk to Pike place and only 15 to the underground tours). It also had a terrace with a beautiful view. The restaurant was superb and the guest service was great! The front desk allowed us to check in early as they had a room available (and we were exhausted since it was early in the morning). I couldn't have been more satisfied with my selection of The State Hotel for our short trip to Seattle this past October. I kept mulling over the options in the Pike Place area (even make a few other reservations) but kept returning back to it. So glad I did. When you are limited on time, location is everything. Thanks to this hotel and AMAZINGLY perfect weather (just check out my rooftop photos), it was a very successful, carefree and fun trip as well as a perfect first introduction to someone else to my fav spots in the PNW. Location. Location. Location. That really is the huge benefit and worthy price tag of this hotel literally a few steps from the market. But going further than that, the hotel stands on its own as being a great hotel and not just mediocrity validated by its convenience and proximity to Pike Place. It is chic, the staff is super friendly, professional and accommodating...and the beds are like dreamy fluffy clouds to sleep on. When I think of my experience here, one word comes to mind: quality. I felt like my money and time was well-spent and the hotel greatly helped enhanced our vacation. With easy access from the link light rail stations, booking a trip as a visitor without a car is a breeze coming directly from the SEA/TAC airport. We arrived around noon and were able to check in for our room early since it was a relatively slow time - major score! Whereas other hotels want to charge you extra for access to your room before 3 or 4pm, they will gladly accommodate if the room is ready. We had the more affordable city view room, which was fine considering all guests have access to the amazing rooftop to view the ocean. I did get a peek at the ocean side when a door was open for housekeeping and I will say, damn, that looked amazing. If you want to pay the extra ~$100/night, you wont be disappointed by that view! Since it was the off-season and a slow week, it really felt like we had the hotel to ourselves. The night we spent had the most incredible sunset and no one else came up to enjoy it! The privacy was nice. The wallpaper art is such a unique feature and upon checking out I learned about the renovation of the building keeping the outside architecture and remodeling throughout within and featuring local artists. My one issue: The bathroom shower is just open with a half glass. Unless you are right under the water, it gets really cold. This shower situation is not for couples! All in all, I give myself a pat on the back for booking with this hotel. All my trips to Seattle have been wonderful; rain or shine, I just adore it and reflecting on each one I have happy memories. But this trip was careful planning and I felt like everything was the right choice. To go even further, its located just a few blocks from a car rental (Alamo/national) so we were able to checkout and walk to pick up a car to continue on our trip up the PNW. I love the location of the state hotel. I've stayed here a few times over the years. My only complaint is that when checking in at 1:30 pm, I was informed that even though my room was ready I would be charged $25 for early check in fee, unless I wanted to wait until 4 pm to check in , I have never been charged this or told this until that minute, we didn't want to wait until 4 , as we had places to be later and want to drop our bags and freshen up before having run off again , so we paid the $$ . They did offer to hold our bags until 4 , we would of had to rush to get ready for our plans. Both the of the front desk people were very nice and explained that the earlier check in fee was new. It appears they could be under staffed or over work the front desk staff as the one girl was there the entire time we were there!!! read more

Do not stay here. Regret everything about this place. It is a hotel that has it's location as the main selling point but the lack of customer service and amenities will leave you wishing you booked elsewhere. There is only one Valet guy who is never at their stand. I dont think this hotel should offer Valet ($49 overnight parking FYI) 2 massive buses were honking at us when we pulled up to valet. 10 minutes waiting and nothing. I hop out & quickly unload my suitcase because I need to go in there and talk to someone. My husband is almost hit by 3 buses and decides it Is too dangerous & has to drive off. Completely Unacceptable! It took 15 minutes for him to maneuver around traffic to get back. In the meantime, I walk in and do not know where to check in because there isn't an employee in sight! I stand there for a few minutes confused and irritated. See a restaurant to my left, wave down a waitress & gesture that no one is there. A minute later, a guy walks in and I tell him about the valet mess up front! He gets another gentleman, named Gabriel who checks me in and offers me a Lemon Vodka Shot. Confused out of my mind at this point and offended now. Am told valet was busy. The vodka lemon shot is a tactless welcome. First off, I cannot drink alcohol because of my medical condition, so you might want to ask your guests ahead of time if they can drink before holding a shot in your hand. Secondly, an apology would have been great or an offer to have someone help me with my suitcase. Good service means more than a shot! I'm not at a pool party in Vegas. And how do you determine who gets a shot? Will you offer that to the older/elderly people, whom by their facial expressions, regrettably booked here too? A few guests in the elevator asked us if we were displeased with this hotel too and wow, we all shared our opinions that ended with one conclusion; we regret being here at this hotel. Enter the room that has 2 hangers, No iron, no ironing board, No suitcase stand, No coffee machine and zero water bottles. I wanted to find another hotel but we booked through a third party. I didnt want to throw money away like that. So I try to ask for the basics. A man brings an iron and ironing board to my room. I ask him for a suitcase stand, and he says, "yeah we dont have those. We used to but we dont anymore. I dont know why." I guess I'm supposed to lie my suitcase on the floor, bend and hurt my back at my inconvenience and pain. I'm livid. My husband is still driving around to get back to the hotel. I go online, click on their site and leave a voicemail for their Public Relations person Jolene because I needed some management in here! She never calls back but it doesn't matter. My husband finally arrives and asks for a manager. He gets the Front Desk Manager, and I tell Natalie of my entire experience. She is a professional pleasant young lady that did all that she can to help out. Brings not one, but two suitcase racks (even though I was told they didnt have any prior, maybe the guy was lazy idk) more hangers, and then she offers us a bigger room with a terrace. Very nice of her, and She is the only reason why I decided to try and make the best of it. But even that upgrade and her courtesy didnt make up for all this hotel lacks. They use large bottles of shampoo, conditioner and lotion in every room. For sanitary reasons this is not okay. There are many places we have stayed at, that have dispenser machines of shampoo/conditioner, soap and lotion, for the most part, guests cannot open those dispensers so it's sanitary in comparison to these large bottles that anyone before you, can open and add whatever they want to it or worse. The wall mounted dispensaries would be better suited to Keep it sanitized for paying guests. We avoided using it altogether. Checking out: no valet again. Told he was busy. Gabriel saw us waiting and took my husband to the parking lot. Guests outside saw us waiting and a lady was worried they wont get their own rental on time when they fly out Monday after seeing what was going on with us. I feel sorry for their ONE valet guy who is taking all the blame for upper management's inadequate staffing. This establishment needs to get serious about accommodating their paying guests and hire more valet, end their tactless welcome vodka shot, provide basics, More hangers, iron /ironing board, suitcase stands, coffee makers and water bottles like most hotels offer at the same price. They really do not make an effort here to make you happy. SAFETY & CUSTOMER SERVICE are a problem. You take a risk waiting for valet in your car. Bring your own products to shower. Bring extra cash to buy your own coffee . They offer it in their lobby but their coffee is not good. THEIR BOTTOM LINE IS MONEY. WHEN YOU PAY FOR THE ROOM. YOU'RE ON YOUR OWN AFTER THAT. We enjoyed our short one night stay at The State Hotel in May 2019. It has a modern and chic vibe. This brand new hotel has some pros and cons that I'll list below. PROS: 1. Amazing location - quick walk to Pike Place Market 2. Very courteous and helpful staff. 3. Restaurant on site is convenient (didn't try). 4. Comfortable bed and a strong shower. CONS: 1. Valet parking only; $50 per night. 2. Room was pretty compact, and so was the bathroom. 3. Bathroom sliding door doesn't offer much privacy. 4. No iron. This is an old hotel that had been closed down for many years that was recently remodeled and opened under a new name. We found it online as a last minute deal for our stay in Seattle. The hotel has been re-done with a modern, simple, and clean decor. They even give a little sample of adult beverage in the evening hours when you check-in. That's a nice touch! Everyone that worked there was very professional. From the doorman to the servers in the restaurant the service was excellent. As for the rooms, a little on the small side but that was no big deal. The bathrooms were very nice, and the towels were large and soft. The toiletries provided were a good quality, and the bed was very comfortable! The location was perfect as it's right around the corner from pikes market. We were in walking distance of all the touristy spots we wanted to see. Here's the problem; if you're traveling in a sprinter, (as we were), they cannot accommodate your parking. We were towed at 6:00am for parking in the street. I had called the hotel prior, to let them know that I was traveling in a sprinter and was told it wasn't an issue. When I arrived the concierge didn't know where to park my van. Is it a clean hotel in a great location? Yes. Would I stay here again? Probably not. If you just need a clean room with a fabulous view and a cool vibe, then this is the place for you. It you think you might need a bottle of water or room service or a coffee maker or a mini fridge during your stay, you might want to go somewhere else. I've stayed in a LOT of hotels all over the country and I don't think I've ever stayed somewhere that had less amenities than this hotel. I couldn't even BUY a bottle of water in the lobby if I wanted to. Had to go across the street to Target to stock up for our stay. Oh, and did I mentioned there wasn't any housekeeping during our stay? I didn't mind not having the bed made or getting fresh towels (you can request towels), but not having the trash removed from the room was a little annoying. We loved our stay at The State Hotel. Location is perfect as it is close to the public market, lots of restaurants, and attractions. The State Hotel has a beautiful lobby, the restaurant is right there and they offer breakfast in the morning as well. What sets the hotel apart is the level of service we received. I love that the hotel texted us about our reservation. I think that's a great touch and we can also text back which make it sooo much easier. We were quickly greeted and checked in by Raul. His costumer service focus goes above and beyond the call of duty. He knows how to make a guest feel very welcome. He offers an abundance of information as willing to create a guest experience that is beyond compare. The staff was very attentive, frequently checked in with us, and created an experience that made our stay feel like home. If you are looking for an easy 3 minute walk to the Pike Market, check these guys out! Riley is my front desk managerand I can't seriously say enough great things about him and my overall experience. He was knowledge and very easy to talk to. I flew in and stayed here one night for my brother's wedding. Because of my flight schedule, he went above and beyond to accommodate my schedule - I felt like a VIP throughout my entire stay. To top it off, I got free unlimited water in a fancy bottle, they refill for me at the front desk. I enjoyed the 8th floor balcony, I heard the sunset is amazing. Ben Paris is the restaurant downstairs, I hear they have a really good Fried chicken sandwich, restaurant is closed on Monday and Tuesday. Will definitely be back! Everything from check in to check out was wonderful! We received complimentary parking which we have to park in the garage ourselves only a block away! We were able to check in early so we parked out front and brought our things to our room then parked the car. The view from the terrace and windows near elevator were gorgeous. Our room was clean and comfortable. I wasn't expecting it to be so close to Pike Place Market. We only had to walk about two minutes which was amazing. We had breakfast at Ben Paris which I would gladly eat there again even if not staying at the hotel. Great location near Pike Place Market and easy to use public transit to get to nearby tourist attractions. The room was a bit tight on space but it was clean and cozy. The only issue in the room was the shower. The shower is poorly designed and allows for water to leak on the floor. Ask for extra towels to avoid a slippery floor. Raul was so incredibly nice and informative, he helped us get the best room with the most amazing water view. The roof top deck was right down the hall from our room & was the perfect way to watch the sunset along with some drinks from the bar down in the lobby (which were delicious - I got a seattle sour & my husband got the PNW old fashioned). The location alone is what set The State Hotel apart from the rest, it was literally around the corner from Pikes Place and within walking distance to some great spots - try Von's 1000 spirits for some food & drinks! We were able to park our car in a garage that's across the street (2 min walk). Walk to some restaurants for dinner, enjoy a nightcap on the rooftop patio & get a good nights rest on a comfy bed. My friend and I stayed here for two nights this past weekend and enjoyed our time here! My favorite part would definitely have to be the overall decor of the actual hotel. The wallpaper was different on each floor and it was great. Pros: - Great location - you can't beat it. It's literally a block from Pike Place. - Parking is only a block away and is secure and safe. They give a discounted overnight rate of $27 which is pretty cheap compared to other parking garages. - Nicely renovated - Lobby amenities were nice: They had a snack card with chips, cookies, etc. Continental breakfast in the morning. Wasn't a huge fan of the pastries as they were kinda dry, but I wasn't there for the pastries. - Price for two nights at $528 in its location wasn't bad at all. - Felt safe considering the location - Lobby had security Cons: - We felt like the hotel boasted their rooftop deck, but it was pretty uneventful. Basically it was just a little corner with two tables. Meh! - No housekeeping...I blame COVID - No hand towels, washcloth, or floor mat - just regular towels - No blowdryer (I intentionally leave mine at home with the expectation they have one...but, no dice) - Bed was horribly uncomfortable...take it with a grain of salt though because I like soft beds and it was firm. We will definitely stay here next time we're in town, but will probably opt for a different room. read more

This place looks better online than it is. The rooms are tiny, beds were small and the sheets felt papery, no parking or valet option (though there is a parking garage across the street), and weirdly there is only half of a door on the showers. So water gets all over the bathroom floor. I guess it was supposed to be a cool/minimalistic interior design thing? What you're paying for here is the location and the restaurant/bar downstairs. When I looked up this Hotel, The pictures on the website do not reflect the rooms ( The view towards the pike specifically) If you have a late/almost night arrival forget making it to the hotels restaurant as they close at 8pm and if they are extremely busy they wont take order even if its not 8 yet. There is no vending machines ,no small convenience section. The best thing of this hotel is,you must use your key to get into the different floors of the building (I felt super safe). Upon your arrival the entrance door is also locked and a front desk staff will always open the door for you unless you have already checked in you use your key. This hotel is in a very busy area both day and night so these safety precautions made everything else not as important. Second best thing was the soaps and lotions they were great quality none of that off odor soap other hotels use. Was this wort the price? Not at all. I over spent because I was ordering uber eats on basic necessities because the hotel didn't have anything. Breakfast are just small snacks like pastries ,yogurt and coffee. This is the best hotel I've ever stayed in. The service, the decor, the location - everything was amazing. We stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed every one of them. The staff was really helpful at all times - even once giving us a free appetizer for a restaurant around the corner when our dinner plans fell through. We got engaged (!!!) while staying here and they made it such a lovely experience by leaving champagne, chocolates, and a note in the room. Excellent customer service. The rooms are tiny, but feel big with the long curtains and big windows - we were on a corner room so we had 3 huge windows and I loved all the natural light coming through the linen curtains. It was just enough room for two people with a luxuriously large bathroom - definitely one of the best parts. Everything was of good quality, with great linens, access to good toiletries, and comfy couches/beds/chairs. One other thing I loved about this hotel was the morning coffee and the ability to get cocktails ordered to the room! Each morning there was a coffee & tea bar in the lobby and at any time we could get amazing cocktails from Ben Paris up to our room in minutes. We had a wonderful experience here and it far exceeded our expectations. We cannot wait to be back at The State hotel - I would confidently recommend this to anyone for the location, amenities, and wonderful staff. read more

I was going to post a 5 star review. Because the beginning and the middle of my state were great. But the ending is so sour , It killed all my good vibes. I was charged for a restaurant meal I did not eat. And I called to complain the first time , and the manager in duty was rude beyond imagination. I ended up taking to a nice guy on my second phone call and he said he will remove the wrong charge from My credit card, but it's still there. Anyone can make a mistake, mistakes are human. But once you realized it , own it up and refund the customer. I have not once stepped foot in their restaurant, video camera footage can probably confirm that. Or comparing signatures on bills if someone said my room number and forged my signature. I hope it was worth it for them. I will ask the credit card company to remove this charge anyway. If you go there. Triple check your bill at check out. read more

Location and decor were excellent, and truly felt like a special place to take an overnight trip. However, some issues were very stressful. Booked a room through a third party website, risky for sure because this means that you need to hope that they communicate with one another. Went to check in and was told there is no reservation recorded. Did some back and fourth and finally was told by the hotel staff that the reserved room was not available for the third party to sell. After more back and fourth we were told that there was only one room left and we would have to book it using the front desk. More back and fourth with third party via cell and the hotel staff said that they could give us the one room left. Long story short; why would you sell a room that was already part of a block sold to 3rd party? How hard would it have been to just say ok we will take care of it if the hotel knew that it was workable? Why put me through the intense stress of figuring out how to resolve the issue when one was already available. Elevate your customer experience! On a side note, the decor was fantastic and felt super special. Lastly, the next day we had our bags held while we hopped around town. When I went to the front desk to get said bags, the front desk staff helped the person behind me to check them in while I stood there waiting for them to even say hello! I mean I really want to leave more stars but there's a lot of little issues. First of all the hotel is gorgeous and right in the middle of everything. Pike place is just walking distance, target is across the street, and you have many bars/restaurants nearby. When I entered the room I felt let down, felt like a box. The room is soo small, there's no mini fridge, no room service. All this is a problem if you're staying awhile. I did a 4 day stay. Also I'm a woman and needed to do my makeup but no full body mirror so I was cramped in the small bathroom with the only mirror in the room. The room was very clean and comfortable though. If that's all you're looking for then this is the place for you. I don't know I felt like not much was offered for the price I paid. Also a $400 charge is added to your card for damages but they'll return the money once you checkout. All in all it's a nice place but not really what I'm looking for. read more

Booked here before and loved the hotel. Used a 3rd party hopper after a concert, front desk staff was confused and sent us out into the night without a room. Do yourself a favor skip the state , if they can't book a basic room who knows what else they'll fall short on. read more

We had the pleasure of being the first guests to check-in at this hotel. We got to take a photo with the general manager (shout out Rob Nichols). The staff were exceptionally friendly, offering many suggestions of restaurants, bars, and things to do. We were treated like royalty. Located super close to the Pike Place Market, you won't find a better location for a place to stay. Loved the leather accents in the rooms too! read more

I don't often write reviews unless something really blows me away. The State Hotel did exactly that! Truly cannot begin to explain how wonderful this hotel is - not only is it beautiful, but the staff are top notch. My boyfriend and I meet in Seattle because we are in the midst of a glorious 3000+ mile long-distance (boo!) relationship. It's his birthday weekend and I had chatted with the front desk staff briefly about our stay in Seattle and how excited we were to explore the city. They kindly let me drop my bags and explore before my boyfriend arrived and when I got up to my room, they had the most thoughtful, personalized birthday card, chocolates, and champagne for us. There are many beautiful hotels in Seattle, but can't recommend this one enough! Five-star staff, perfect location, and beautiful, clean rooms. I'm sure we'll be back! read more

The hotel is beautiful, location is great! We stayed one night, Prepaid to park, and had a great stay. The staff was great and very helpful. Our room, however, was not clean. We found lots of hair in the shower, sink, bed, in the toilet paper roll (like under the flap, wtf), etc. The glasses and mugs in the room were super dirty, there was only decaf coffee in the room, and there was a condom wrapper in the top drawer of the dresser. And the place smelled like cheap cigars and even cheaper perfume. We prepaid for parking, $57 for 24 hours. When we left early the next morning, we were charged an additional $33. So I paid $90 to park overnight when they told me it would be $27. So all in all, I spent almost $500 to spend one night in a dirty room. Would not recommend. read more

This place was absolutely beautiful! The design was so modern but cozy and inviting. The location is optimal due the the Pike Place Market, the Seattle Art Museum, and other great bars and restaurants. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and the staff was super thoughtful in bringing a frozen marble canister for the sparkling we brought as well as giving us some free house made chocolates. We upgraded to the terrace which is highly recommended when Seattle weather is good! The rooms were so clean and well kept, the bed was super comfortable, and it's a nice place to check in when you're trying to escape from work and other pandemic things.
