Specialties
The Sector 17 brings halal Indian, Mediterranean, and American flavors together under one roof in the heart of Oakland — just steps from Pitt’s campus at 338 S. Bouquet Street. Everything we serve is halal, made fresh daily, and built around bold, honest cooking: fire-roasted kebabs, slow-simmered curries, charred tandoori chicken, fresh-baked naan, loaded gyros, crispy falafel, and stacked hoagies and burgers for when you just want comfort food done right.
We’re one of the only spots in Oakland serving halal breakfast starting at 8 AM — and we keep the kitchen going until midnight, seven days a week. Early lecture, late study session, post-shift dinner: we’ve got you covered when almost nobody else is open.
What makes us different? We don’t water anything down. Our chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, beef biryani, and chana masala are made the way they should be — real spices, real technique, real depth. At the same time, our Mediterranean plates, wraps, and American classics mean there’s something for every table, every diet, and every craving.
Dine in, take out, or order delivery on www.thesector17.com, DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Grubhub. We also cater — from student org events to office lunches to weddings. Big portions, student-friendly prices, and food made with genuine pride. Come hungry.
History
Established in 2025.
The Sector 17 started as a dream served out of a pop-up tent. Under the name Pittsburgh Punjabis, we brought authentic Punjabi street food to breweries and festivals across Pennsylvania — including the Butler County Fair, where many folks tried Indian food for the very first time and came back for seconds, then thirds.
That love from the community turned a pop-up into a food truck, and the food truck into the brick-and-mortar restaurant you see today on S. Bouquet Street in Oakland. We named it The Sector 17 after the famous Sector 17 in Chandigarh, India — a legendary gathering place where food, culture, and people come together. That’s exactly what we wanted to build in Pittsburgh.
Today we serve students, families, healthcare workers, and neighbors from 8 AM to midnight every day — the same recipes, the same passion, just with a roof over our heads.
