Second Line has taken a bit of a fall, sadly. When it first opened, it was the joint for me. I went quite often. Tonight was my first visit in a bit, and I'm surprised that some issues remain issues and other issues are new ones. Take, for example, the cluster that is the host area and getting seated. How is this still a problem? It's not the wait time that's the issue but the disaster that is getting a name on a list, the hosts monitoring tables, getting tables cleaned and turned over, and finally getting seated. Get it together, my gosh. The service is either on point or way off. It's never consistently one way or the other, and it really depends on the person. For example, our guy tonight needed at minimum three reminders for simple requests like a straw, napkins, mayo, and the check. He was too busy playing on his phone and taking pictures to do his job. My apologies for getting in the way. The food is no doubt great and it's certainly worth a trip, but if you're looking for an experience (or a great one at that), save this for another time. read more

I went in a on nice Sunday afternoon to find a friendly staff and plenty of seats. I sat at the bar and ordered a drink, followed by a shrimp & oyster po boy sandwich. Both were excellent and the service was attentive. read more

We were recommended this restaurant. Completely disappointed 5 out of 7 of my group. We sat at 11:20 am and didn't order u til 11:40, which was ok because we had to wait for 2 friends. After ordering, it took almost 45 mins before we got our food. The guy who delivers food to the table, used the restaurant and didn't wash his hand. Completely disgusting, but oh well, we were already there and had ordered. I got the chicken sandwich with onion rings. The chicken sandwich was soggy. Onion rings was good. We got the pancakes, which was nice a fluffy. Syrup wasn't overwhelming sweet, so that was actually pretty solid. The Gumbo was salty and too soupy. The catfish dish was mediocre. The OG w/ grit was avg. My friend said it didn't have any cajun flavor to it (and this is a cajun restaurant). Egg sizzle was average and El chappo ese? My friend said that was decent. Our server had a nice smile, but she didn't look like she wanted to serve us. No one apologized for the 45 min wait for our food and they charged us 20% gratuity tip. Horrible. read more

Heard such great things but left hungry and disappointed. The only item I enjoyed was the gumbo. Service was not awesome .. could not answer menu questions, disappeared often and forgot to credit the deposit they required for the reservation. Dessert was a cold rock hard brownie with ice cream and I was so sad to leave my favorite course uneaten. Bummer... read more

I've been here like 4x and I think this is my first time reviewing it on here. I really enjoy this place. I came here for the first time with my honey on a first date monthsss ago and I've taken all my friends since! I enjoy their cocktails and the catfish and spinach is really good. I had the oyster salad last week and it was on point as well. The red beans and rice? I would pass on. Not terrible but not how I like mine personally. I plan on returning here plenty more times to come. I wish I would've taken pics but oops! I was having fun lol. read more

Good experience. Food is well executed NOLA comfort food. Ambiance is clean and modernish but pretty undifferentiated and abnormally loud. Place was heavily staffed and service was acceptable. Food was good but priced significantly higher than typical rates for the level of quality / creativity. Not a bad joint but not a destination either. read more

Unfortunate evening. Spent a lot of money for poor food. Fries came out burnt. Received a strange excuse. Fry oil must have been old. We got some free bread pudding that was mostly inedible. One serving was still frozen. Server was nice. He tried. But had to ask him to back out fries that were burnt. Auto-grat on top of it. Disappointing as I live close to the restaurant. Wont be back. Seems like a trend in Midtown. read more

Had a hankering for a shrimp po boy..server suggested the roast beef. Should have listened. I love iris and Kelly's food but the shrimp po boy left much to be desired. I had a total of about 4 shrimp on one half and the other half maybe 3. I may be off on my count but it was a lot of bread. Albeit very yummy bread but for $18 I'd love to see more shrimp. Like left over shrimp on my plate number of shrimp. Fries are banging read more

Flavors on point! Catfish dinner, shrimp & oyster po'boys. The greens reminded me of my dad's, rice & beans are reminiscent of Popeyes but way better, wholesome. I forgot the name of those loaded fries with steak were good but I would've preferred my fries crispier to hold up to the (poutine). Always enjoy fresh lemonade from the bar too. I was visiting from out of town and wanted a nice brunch spot. My boyfriend ordered the shrimp and grits and he LOVED them. I wanted the catfish entree but was told that it was not a brunch item but only a lunch item and that lunch was not served until 4pm. I thought brunch was breakfast and lunch so that was a bit confusing. I ended up just ordering the catfish poboy with no bread or anything just the fish with a side of red beans and rice. I was disappointed since where I am from, catfish is usually very flavorful and seasoned, this however was not. The red beans and rice were also not my ideal red beans and rice as it was very watery like soup. I was starving so I did eat it but I would not order it again as it was a very bland meal. read more

The Second Line - Shrimp and grits - Cajun/Creole Near Me - Memphis, Tennessee

Oh 100th review! You, Second Line, are worthy of this title, this lovely milestone in my yelping history. I found you on Yelp when I began as a user back in January 2015. Much like a drug, I became addicted to Yelp because of neat little finds in my hometown like you. How had I missed your adorable little house exterior? How had I not heard of your New Orleans fare? How had I not gotten a whiff of the delicious scents coming from your grill while walking down Cooper oh so many times? The Second Line was destined to be a Yelp discovery for me. I remember looking at the menu on Yelp last year and exclaiming, "If I had a restaurant, it would have almost the exact same menu!" I stalked news articles about this place, I looked at it longingly while going to other Overton square restaurants. I made several attempts to try and con people into going with me so I wouldn't geek out alone at the place. But all to no avail. A few weeks ago I read that they were starting to open for lunch! Glory glory hallelujah! Then I made a precautionary call to ensure my daughter wouldn't be turned away. The hostess lady on the phone said, "Bring her ON!!! We have high chairs at the ready." The weather was gorgeous. I got a prime parking space across the street. My two year old was in a great mood. Things were shaping up to be a perfect experience. We walked up to the darling little house that is the restaurant. There was a nice lady watering the plants outside, just like it was her home. Adorbs! Then we were greeted by the most personable hostess I have ever met. She was delightfully funny and accommodating. She was the one who had spoken to me on the phone earlier. I asked if I could be seated on the patio. She made sure I was comfortable with the temp outside and we were seated in 2 minutes. Just my daughter and I on a patio in midtown. No sweltering Memphis heat. Listening to Overton Square saluting Billy Joel (who I dreamed might make an appearance.) Priceless. We had a glass of ice water, the menu, silverware, and a high chair at our table when we arrived. Our server gave us a minute or two before greeting and asking what I would like to drink. I got sweet tea because, well, the kid. I then ordered what I had been waiting to try for a year: pimento cheese fries, a fried oyster po boy, and a side of red beans and rice. I explained to the server that I didn't think I would be able to come back soon and I had wanted to try this food for a long time. I knew I would never be able to eat all of it. She didn't seem too concerned with any niceties or anything, so I laughed to myself over the ridiculous amount of food I was about to have on my table. The fries came about 10 mins later. They came in a cute mini cast iron pan. I was dubious about the gravy under the gorgeous pile of melty pimento cheese. I only eat gravy on meat...never on potatoes. I also just knew that these fries would be limp and gummy under gravy. I took out a portion and put it on the little baking sheet pans that they use for plates (love the quirkiness of that btw.) Aaaand the first two bites were pretty unexciting. I was preparing for major soggy disappointment. BUT THEN the third and sequential bites were amazing! Crisp fries + melty, spicy cheese + tasty sausage + fresh crawfish + earthy gravy = comfort in my tummy. Success! Then, about 7 minutes into my appetizer, the server brought my po boy with red beans and rice as the side. And that's when I figuratively broke into my happy dance. The bread on this sandwich is so fresh. It tastes yeasty and it flakes like a perfect hoagie should. This thing has shredded lettuce which is the only way to do lettuce on a fish sandwich. The sliced tomatoes are not too thick or thin and perfectly ripe. It has tasty mayo that doesn't feel heavy. It has sliced pickles (I hate pickles but I totally get their purpose.) Then it has an unreal amount of thick and perfectly cornmeal battered oysters. I didn't even want the red beans and rice after I took a bite of that sammie. I knew I was going to eat the whole sandwich then and there because there would be no taking this home to get soggy and gross. This had to be enjoyed in the moment NOW. And enjoy I did. I took three obligatory bites of the red beans and rice. They took me in a food coma driven daydream back to Poydras Street in New Orleans where I walked a mile in bare feet. My swollen feet could take no more fancy shoes. I had just downed an incredible amount of red beans and rice with a side of sausage accompanied with innumerable amounts of Jack Daniels. The air was sweet, the music was jazzy, and my tummy was full of comfort. You could say that is the Second Line in a nutshell: aromatic, jazzy, and as comforting as the winsome midtown home it is. read more

Oh the hype! This place was crowded when we got there but we fortunately were able to be seated. The par review is based on quality of service and taste in food and partially because of an absurdly loud and annoying table near us. First, our waitress made us wait maybe 15 or 20 minutes just water and then another 15 min to actually get our order. And we saw her go back and forth to other tables for water and such. This happened throughout our meal and whenever she came to us, she was out of breath and acted panicked and hurried, but we honestly didn't think it was understaffed that night and the restaurant wasn't completely packed. It was bizarre. Maybe we had poor vision goggles on after our long 7 hour drive, but it was unpleasant. If we wanted anything, we knew we had to get it elsewhere or from someone else. Food: we got the fried catfish and the catfish in tomato sauce, along with the fried oysters as an appetizer. I didn't love the blue cheese sauce that came with the oysters and maybe fried oysters aren't just my thing - it seemed greasy and not very fresh (but I guess that's why people fry oysters to start with). Overall, I rate that plate a 4 on a 10 scale. Not worth getting. The fried catfish was much the same, but more tasteless. It mistype tasted like the batter and it was pretty fried and overcooked. I got tired of eating it after two bites. The other catfish, however, done creole style with the tomato sauce was delicious. It was a bit salty, but I balanced it out with my side of tomato salad that I got. The other table next to us has some rowdy, inebriated folks who were causing a complete ruckus because two other tables requested to move and were annoyed by their theatrics too. Overall, an unpleasant experience, partially redeemed by the fact that that the restaurant itself is a cute little house, seated us quickly and had two of five things as good. There are surely better options out there! read more

Items Selected: The Original Andouille + Crawfish + Pimento Cheese Fries The Johnny Snack - Hot Ham + Cheese with Beef Debris with Spinach Madeline Pecan Bread Pudding - Salty Caramel + Vanilla Ice Cream Opting against Restaurant Iris in favor of Andrew Michael Italian Kitchen for Friday dinner, and unable to fit the revered Memphis fine dining establishment into our schedule given their Sunday and Monday closure, it was to Chef Kelly English's more casual Second Line that we headed for a late 2pm brunch on Mother's Day and opting to sit at the bar as opposed to waiting for a table it was to Cavs vs. Bulls game four and friendly service from a young female bartender that we were treated, LeBron James' game winning three and one of the best bread puddings I've ever tasted more than making up for a menu already sold out of several items including a Goo-Goo Cluster Sundae ordered early on but given to another table for reasons only explained by a service 'mistake.' Larger in size than it looks from out front, particularly given the al fresco patio tucked behind the restaurant and shared with Iris, Second Line embraces the more casual side of New Orleans cuisine honed by English during his time in the Big Easy training under the tutelage of Chef John Besh, and with nods to his mentor in the form of prawns at the top of the menu it was with a few Second Line signatures that the meal progressed, one sandwich and one appetizer plus the aforementioned dessert providing a sizeable and affordable snack without spoiling appetites for dinner later that night. Still crowded despite the off-hour, many ladies and their families lingering over all-you-can-drink mimosas or glasses of champagne despite tables at that point devoid of food, it was perhaps fifteen minutes after ordering that a tray and two cast iron pots arrived, the former containing a ham and cheese Po-Boy topped in rich gravy alongside buttery spinach soufflé while the second Staub piece contained a veritable mountain of hand-cut spuds that maintained plenty of crispness even when topped with bubbling pimento cheese and a heap of spicy sausage plus sweet crustacean that tasted as though it was just plucked from its shell. Admittedly a bit miffed that the sundae had been sold out from under our noses, but certainly not willing to pass on Bread Pudding made by a chef trained under Besh, it was much to our surprise that two ramekins of the caramel soaked brioche were served for the price of one and although we'd originally planned to share just one in order to save room for later such restraint was immediately cast by the wayside after the first bite, the custard-soaked brioche with crispy edges still quite capable of soaking up slowly melting ice cream without becoming mushy while toasty candied pecans added just a touch more sweetness to all the butter and vanilla, a classic no less perfect than that at Luke and perhaps even superior given the texture of the base. read more

If you want great New Orleans Cuisine... this is the place for you! The bartenders are awesome. The Fried Oyster Salad is "crave-able" (yes I crave it), and there's a spicy shrimp dish that makes you wanna slap somebody's Momma! (Never your own! ) This is the laid back version of Chef Kelly's restaurants. I've loved it since the opening and I'm a loyal patron. If this is the second line, I'd hate to see the third. This restaurant screws up in all of the small ways. First, we waited around 45 minutes for a table, no biggie. So we walked around the district until they called us. When they call you get 10 minutes to report back to the hostess, we returned in 8, with the evidence of their incoming call on our phone log. Well they gave our table away to another group and told us to wait for another table. Now I've never asked for a comp and I didn't ask them and wouldn't have accepted one, but they really should have been in damage control and offered us a glass of Pepsi or something while we waited AGAIN. We were seated about 15 minutes later. The menu is pretty compact, which I think is great as way too many menus today are bloated. But it is lacking variety. You're basically looking at eating a po'boy and that is about it for main courses, which kind of seriously shortchanges creole cuisine. Our waitress was very nice and she recommended the BBQ shrimp as an appetizer and the best item on the menu. The appetizer took around 30 minutes to arrive. The wait time is disappointing and the portions were even more soul crushing. At $14, the BBQ shrimp is one of the most expensive items on the menu. So what do you get? About five shrimps in BBQ gravy and a mini loaf of French bread. It's like, how much profit do you need to make off this one dish? At that point you're almost robbing from your patrons. Our server said the French bread was excellent. I'd say good, not great but nothing was wrong with it enough to mention. The main problem is the portion sucked. I shared it with my date and it barely whet our mouth. For our po'boys, well it took an additional HOUR and FIFTEEN MINUTES to reach our table. So that's a grand total of nearly two hours of waiting for food. Three hours if you count the wait for a table. Even at this point, I said to myself, "if the food is awesome all is forgiven." It didn't work out that way. The profit-driven portions strike again. My roast beef po'boy was sorely lacking roast beef. While I appreciate the fact that it wasn't sliced but in fact chunks of roast beef, the sandwich left me feeling like a poor boy. With any sandwich, the bread to meat ratio is critical, and the bread just dominates this small spread of beef. Also, the French bread was clearly stale before it was toasted, because it was crunchy throughout the loaf and was flaking all over the place. My onion rings were unique in that the crispy batter disappeared like cotton candy when it entered your mouth. I kid you not, I found myself just chewing on a limp onion, as the batter had no crunch and it literally just vanished into grease in your mouth. The batter used for the shrimp in my date's po'boy was much better. The French fries were just good. Nothing great but solid. I wanted to like this place because it's in a good location, eating on the gated patio is nice and had a good view aimed at the west for sunsets, there's an outside bar and just the right amount of tv's on the wall. And the staff seemed nice. But if you keep the patron waiting for 3 hours the food better deliver above and beyond. The Second Line, sadly, doesn't do that. I wouldn't recommend it, and recommend trying one of their neighboring competitors. read more

I've reviewed this place before, but my previous review seems to have evaporated... Anyway, went with friends last weekend. I have to say the hostess at the front door was anything but friendly. I was kind of put off by the cold reception. The rest of the evening was fine. Our server, Haley, was great, service was excellent. Always there just in time to refill drinks. She was friendly and very helpful. PD had a cocktail and I had a few beers. PD declared the drinks were great, the beer menu was good. Not extensive, but featuring Memphis beers on tap. We shared a cheese fries for an appetizer, it was really good. Fries were excellent, well covered by the cheese. The main courses were good, but my po'boy was a bit soggy. The red beans and rice were a bit dull too. Food was good, but not great. read more

My absolute favorite item: the cheese grits. I'm not sure what's them, but it's heavenly. I'd eat these grits everyday if I could! The cocktail drinks here are unique and delicious. I've been dying to come here, and when my girlfriends suggested this spot as our weekly ritual date spot, I more than happily obliged. First things first, the PIMENTO CHEESE FRIES. omgasm. just get them. they're drizzled with a exceptionally right amount of cheese, with andouille and crawfish to give it that little spunk in your mouth. SO GOOD. fried chicken yo po'boy - its pretty good. I'm not going to say its the best po boy i've ever had (since i've been to nola), but its not bad for an upscale foodie take on po boys. I think it could have used a little more meat, it was slightly breadier / more fried than i would like it to be. but its not bad! a good option for memphis, but im excited to eat through the menu. The atmosphere is so cute, and i love the decor. The servers are very on point, and was always refilling my water, which I super appreciate! Also one of my friends ordered a coke, and she got a refill without asking which was incredibly convenient and much appreciated! Highly recommended if you love cajun/creole food and you are a foodie. Good spot for a date night. They have a bar counter top thing where you can watch the game and drink drinks if you'd like. This is one of my favorite places in Memphis and my very favorite place in Overton Square. With the New Orleans based menu I was pretty skeptical as I fancy myself as a bit of a NOLA food "expert" and rarely eat Louisiana or "Cajun" food outside of the great state of Louisiana. I was seated the first time before I figured out the LA/NOLA tilt so I stuck it out. Man, I am so glad I did. I love this place. The food and the portions are great. The PoBoys are superb. Love this place! Food is always on target. In the summer the back area is open (with more bar spots). Bar spots = quicker service instead of the long 1 hour wait. Chef Kelly English is a disciple of famed New Orleans Chef John Besh and it shows in the quality and authenticity of his food. I came in for an authentic New Orleans dinner from my hometown and I was amazed by how good it was up here in Memphis. Without a doubt the most authentic New Orleans experience outside of New Orleans. I started off with a great cocktail as I ate at the bar and then went in for the shrimp poboy with a side of red beans and rice. Both were absolutely delicious, what made the poboy unique is that they ship in the poboy bread from New Orleans which makes all the difference. For dessert I ordered the bread pudding and omg am I glad I did. It came out piping hot with a great whiskey sauce and candied pecans topped with vanilla ice cream. OMG was this a great meal and I will certainly be back. read more

The one thing that is kinda bothersome about all these restaurants is that they don't take reservations. We had a group of 6 so I was a little nervous about the wait. Luckily, we got there around 7:30 and didn't have too bad of a wait...probably due to ice still being on the roads. I don't know if it's the fact I hadn't eaten all day, but I actually really enjoyed their food. We got two appetizers, the gulf shrimp midnight snack (which also comes with a loaf of bread!) and the andouille, crawfish & pimento cheese fries. Both were ridiculously good. My only complaint would be the crawfish tasted a little fishy, but I understand sometimes that happens. For my entree, I got the fried oyster plate. Definitely worth the $16. I was so incredibly full afterwords. It comes with a side of fries, a few hush puppies, and a little side salad. I have to say out of all the entrees mine looked the best :). read more

When you love New Orleans as much as I do, sometimes you just get a hankering for some good Cajun/Creole cuisine. Several friends recommended The Second Line, and I've driven by it enough times to see that it looks like a happenin' place, so I finally decided to give it a go. Let's start with the atmosphere, appearance, etc. I LOVE the location. It's in a cute little Midtown house-turned-restaurant, and the color scheme and decor really give it an old New Orleans vibe. The staff was also friendly, cheerful and knowledgeable about the menu. We each ordered a cocktail to start off. I ordered the French 75 and my husband ordered the Sazarac. I wasn't impressed with the French 75 as it was too Gin-heavy, and I'm just not a Gin girl. I don't recall French 75's in other restaurants containing Gin as an ingredient, but maybe I'm wrong. I guess I ordered it being hopeful the other ingredients would sort of mellow it out. I took a sip of my husband's Sazerac and thought it was really good, so he offered to trade drinks with me. He's more of a Gin guy anyway. The cocktails were the same/average price as pretty much any restaurant in town, and the Sazerac left me with a good buzz after halfway through it. But now let's talk about the food. My hubby & I ordered the BBQ shrimp appetizer for sharing and the chicken & sausage gumbo. We just returned from New Orleans the previous weekend (our 12th trip down), so we were truly hopeful we had found our place here at home to tide off our Nola cravings in between trips. Guess we will have to keep looking, sadly. The BBQ shrimp appetizer has 8 shrimp in it, but for the price? I was expecting LARGE shrimp. They tasted very worcestershire sauce-heavy, which was no bueno in my book. Also, the loaf of bread accompanying the shrimp, intended for soaking up the sauce, was too flaky and not ideal for this purpose, plus it tasted more like Wonder Bread than the French bread you'd get in New Orleans. Even more disappointing was the gumbo. I was actually a little excited because it's served with corn bread. I've never had corn bread with gumbo before, but I love a good corn bread, so I was game. I prefer a darker, richer roux, (which this did not have) and it tasted very okra-intense. And where was the chicken? I found maybe 2 little shreds of chicken in my bowl. The sausage tasted like Hillshire Farms smoked sausage instead of a good spicy andouille we enjoy in New Orleans. I've made better gumbo in my crockpot at home. Also, I prefer just a tad more rice in my gumbo. The included corn bread was also a letdown. It was extremely salty, and I prefer a sweeter corn bread. Finally in an attempt to salvage our food letdown, we ordered the bread pudding for dessert. Other than the vanilla ice cream on top tasting more like food service quality, it was delicious! The candied pecans and the whiskey sauce were really amazing! In short, I'd come back here for a cocktail and/or dessert, and my husband said he'd come back for a Poboy, but The Second Line will not make it on my full rotation for restaurants to dine in Memphis. read more

The food was really, really good. We started with the barbecue shrimp; the shrimp was sadly overlooked and chewy but the sauce was absolutely delicious. I had a shrimp po boy, which was also good. We had greens and cheese grits, as well. The greens were super flavorful but definitely had a kick, and the grits were soooo good (and I'm not a grits person). There was a fairly decent wait, but on a Friday night that's no big deal and we grabbed a drink at the bar. The service was incredibly slow -- they didn't bring remoulade out with the po boy, so it got cold while I was waiting. Additionally, it took twenty minutes for our waitress to bring me the beer I wanted with my food....eventually I told her never mind, since we wanted to leave, but she insisted on bringing in....another ten minutes later. read more

So, I'm not quite sure how I missed reviewing this place...my husband and I are here like all the time. Long story short, we LOVE The Second Line. A Brit quaint, it is always booming with a diverse crowd of folks who just love food. I've had quite a few things on the menu, including cheese grits, greens, catfish plate, catfish po'boy, cheeseburger po'boy, and the list goes on. You really can't go wrong coming here; there's something for everyone. The bartenders and wait staff are pretty amazing and super attentive. It's like they know your wants and needs before you know you want or need it. No visit is complete without having the bread pudding. I'm pretty sure Chef English puts his entire soul into making that pudding...it is literally ev. ree. thing. I was turned onto the Second Line by a friend in Memphis. The location was easy to miss, but I'm sure glad I managed to find this place! After parking, which wasn't the easiest of tasks, I wandered in and took a seat at the bar. The Mezcal drinks sounded interesting but after learning they were out of Mezcal I opted for a local beer. I paired the beer with an order of the loaded cheese and gravy fries, which my friend had recommended...I was into the andouille sausage component but was a bit intimidated by the promise of crawfish in the gravy. The skillet came out and much to my surprise included large chunks of sausage plus entire crawfish! Although a new flavor to me, and one which I'm not sure I'd go for again, I'm very glad I gave it a shot. The portion was very fair for the price and had a complex profile from the sausage, crawfish, gravy and pimiento cheese. I also ordered the Verno po'boy and found the flavor and tenderness of the chicken to be perfect - definitely something I'd order again. read more

Came for HH, and overall enjoyed my visit here. It was a Tuesday afternoon, so it was super empty which is exactly how I like it. Walking in, there wasn't any employee/host in sight, but then it became clear that at the time, there was only 1 server busting her ass before the rest were coming. When they did all come, they were all really friendly and chatted it up while they bussed tables. I got sat outside, and the server was really nice in giving recommendations. I tried the Mushroom Po'boy w/ fries, and it was pretty good! I liked the po'boy; the mushrooms were flavorful, though I found it interesting that they weren't fried like a typical po'boy. The fries were sort of a disappointment, they were greasy/burnt. Honestly, if it wasn't for the service and amazing outdoor ambience, the food isn't good enough to get me to come back. Maybe it's harsh since it was only the fries, but hey, how do you mess up fries? read more

Our waiter was very personable and helpful. We both had the Redfish and Crawfish Pontchartrain--and it was one of the best seafood meals we had ever had anywhere! There was also a nice selection of local craft beers on tap. read more

Servers dirty hands and nails. One meal delivered to table and at the same time told us they weren't serving my meal. Went home without dinner. Charged us for food we never got. Luckily caught before we left. Bathrooms smelled like weed. read more

One of the best meals of my life. This place is Cajun themed. I ordered the catfish dinner plate w/ hush puppies and cheese grits and my wife ordered the grill shrimp salad and rice and beans. You have to try the cheese grits and beans and rice they rivaled anything we had in New Orleans. Their specialty cocktails are amazing too. Try the "Smokey and the bandit" read more

This place was a nice cute spot. We went here later in the evening about an hour before closing during the midweek and it wasn't too busy. They have a decent sized outdoor patio that we sat at and the patio also has an outdoor bar area. Overall the place was ok. I wasn't WOWed by the food but it was good. We had the Dinner salad and the Fried Shrimp PoBoy with cheese grits. The grits were probably my favorite thing followed by the PoBoy and then the salad. The grits were a little dry but the corn taste was great! I also enjoy the shrimp on the PoBoy whichcame with tomatoes and mayo. I was expecting more from the salad. The grilled shrimp on it was good but I didn't really like that it didnt have much of a dressing except for the lemon we squeeezed on it. It was a good size though. I also had the Almost whiskey drink. That was quite tasty read more

The Second Line - Great Food, Good Drinks and live music on The Patio for Saturday nights in the spring. - Cajun/Creole Near Me - Memphis, Tennessee

Let me start this by saying this place might be in my top 5 favorite places in Mid-town, maybe even Memphis in general. It's a very small restaurant (it was a cottage-looking home converted into a restaurant) so it was a little tightly packed for a party of 3 on a Sat. night. However, we got seated in about 20 minutes which was definitely faster than the 45 minute time estimated. The seating they have is bar seating (It's basically a bar) but that type of stuff isn't a big deal for me as I only care about the food. I ordered the Verno w/ fries and a drink. The chicken in the Verno was probably some of the best I've had in my life. The portion sizes were great and when I got the bill, it was about 13 dollars as opposed to the 20 dollars I thought it was going to be (if you order a meal, the side and the drink come free. I thought when I looked online that the sides were an additional 4-5 dollars), since we brought extra $$$ thinking it was going to be more expensive, we also opted for dessert and we got the bread pudding which was also pretty good. This place is definitely a 5/5 hands down, if you don't like sitting in a bar stool there are some tables in the back but considering the place looked like it gets busy often, you might have to wait a little longer if seating is a big issue for you. This place will definitely become a go-to for me anytime I'm out in mid-town for sure. read more
