This was the first visit to the Rutledge for everyone in our group. We were also so lucky to get to enjoy this lovely restaurant, for an early lunch, with very few other guests present. ( Christmas Eve lunch wasn't at all busy, but our server shared that they had reservations for that evening for over 200 guests!)Food is beyond fabulous, lovely atmosphere, friendly staff & great service= a total win. Though everyone loved all of their entrees, the lobster roll is perfection, huge chunks of lobster cooked perfectly, on a wonderful toasted roll. My husband and I took out of town guests here. From the moment we sat down it was a nightmare. It took forever to get drinks (I get it if the bar is busy, but this was an absurdly long time). The waitress completely forgot our appetizers, never acknowledged it and acted as if we were an inconvenience to her the entire time we were seated. Our food came and everyone had a meal but me. She came back to check on us after their food came and I still didn't have mine. It eventually came out when everyone else was more than halfway done. The manager said she'd comp it, though it was still on the bill when we got it. The icing on the cake was when my husband put his silverware down and just stopped eating. I asked him what was wrong and he said it was already a bad enough experience that he didn't want to say anything, but he pointed to his plate and there were three long hairs in his food. Safe to say we will likely never be back. Franklin has too many good places to deal with this level of service for the price tag. Super disappointing. read more

My friends and I are nashville natives. We were very excited to try this place out after hearing such good things. Everything we ordered we loved!! For apps we got the lobster roll, steak roll, and the cornbread. For dinner, I had the French dip with glazed carrots and it was amazing. Service was fantastic, seating was comfortable, atmosphere was so great. It was nice and quiet and chill. Off the bat, prices don't seem out of control and there's something for everybody. We got the charcuterie board, the chopped salad, a bowl of tomato soup, the hand cut ribeye with baked potato, and the lobster roll with fries. The charcuterie board was missing something but I can't really put my finger on it. It could use more bready stuff whether it's more bread or maybe some kind of cracker, and I was actually surprised there was no locally sourced honey. We also didn't get any sort of explanation from our server on what all was on the board which isn't super necessary but it would have been very very appreciated. It was overpriced for what was included though for sure. The chopped salad was also missing something, it was on the bland side, but I did like it. But my husband made a great point: name one of the flavors from it. I can't. The tomato soup was pretty good, I think it was actually bisque? I thought the hand cut ribeye was really good. Best thing on any of our plates. However! It arrived blue rare, he ordered it medium rare. He's not a fan of mooing steak. I am. But it wasn't my dish, it was his. The lobster roll was okay at best. I thought by what I got that they don't use the creamy sauce. I just saw other peoples pictures of the lobster roll though and mine looked NOTHING like that. Mine looked like garbage next to those pictures. They totally do use creamy but I didn't get any of that. I got lobster on a roll and I have no clue what they put on it but it was a huge disappointment. The fries were okay. Baked potato was really undercooked. It has great reviews in other places so maybe we just ordered poorly, but maybe Tuesday is not the night to go? With most reviews being so great, I'd say give this one a try but maybe set your expectations low. And don't order the lobster roll on a Tuesday night or a steak if you like anything more cooked than rare. read more

We came to this restaurant for our very first time on a holiday evening, so our review may not be fair for other times that are not as busy. We made a reservation and were greeted warmly and seated immediately. We had plenty of time to look over the menu as it was almost 10 minutes before our server arrived at our table to take our drink orders. The ambiance here is a full 5 star, so in that time, we were able to enjoy the atmosphere , as well as the very exquisite glassware in which they serve water (and then wine). We sat at a two top, which was very nice for acoustics on the busy night. Hubby ordered the angel hair pasta with a meatball, he pronounced it as a solid five star meal. I eat gluten free, and I will say to my gluten free friends, this is not an easy place to eat. Most of the menu has gluten. I ordered the avocado chicken sandwich without bread...and my pet peeve...they didn't bring it as described in the menu. The description says it has chipotle mayonnaise, when it was delivered there was no mayonnaise, so I asked and regular mayonnaise was delivered. The next time our server came by, i asked for the chipotle (meanwhile my food is getting cold), when it finally arrived, it was delicious. Sadly the chicken was so tough I had to ask for a steak knife and the steak knife was even struggling to cut it. But the flavors were good. Will we return? This is a hidden gem of Happy Hour fare in Franklin. Unfortunately, it is only from 3pm-6pm but the deals were great! We got a cheese plate and spinach and artichoke plate. The cheese plate was large and the waiter brought us extra bread for no extra charge! The spinach and artichoke dip was fresh and probably the best I've ever had. It was not overly cheesy but had delicious Parmesan on top. The server was quick and attentive when our wine got low. A wonderful experience- cannot wait to come back for dinner! read more

Not worth it. Very fake feeling. Feels like they copy pasted a magazine picture onto the place with none of the authenticity of a nice restaurant that their prices imply. Bright lights, dirty tables for the duration, bar being used for paperwork, uncomfortable seating. We only got the lobster bruschetta and steak egg rolls. Both were good but nothing special. Old fashioned, a mule, and some red wine to drink. Wine was actually good although it was a 3 oz. pour which is disappointing. (I could have missed that fact on the menu.) We looked up the times both on google and their website before coming around 8:30 which said they closed at 11. The bartender handed us our checks before our second drink was finished around 9:30. When asked what time they closed she said 10:00. We apologized for staying and told her the website said 11 which is why we came in late... she just kinda smirked and said "oh, it does? Haha." Then turned and left? Not really sure what time they close. Maybe it just wasn't a good night to go, but there's a weird disconnect between the environment they're going for and the service and food provided. read more

No good restaurant should be serving Cab from 2017 let alone charging the same price as a 2015. Also, they served the wine in white glasses and excuses it as they ran out of red. What a nice Happy Hour and dinner I just had! I was worried about coming here with some of these bad reviews, but we had a large group of 15 already planning to go for Happy Hour 5:00 Friday so figured I'd give them a shot and go. So glad I did! The servers were attentive, and nice. We had 1 main waiter plus 2 trainees. They weren't perfect but they fixed errors right away and were great overall. The food and drinks were absolutely wonderful! They have a nice selection of wine, beers and cocktails, plus a small selection of small plates for special Happy Hour pricing. The shrimp cocktail and spinach/artichoke dip & chips were excellent. The quality of the ingredients impressed me, shrimp were BIG, and spinach/artichoke dip way above par. We all ended up getting dinners too. I had the lobster roll starter as my dinner and it was fantastic- HUGE chunks of lobster in potato rolls mmmm. Hubs had the ahi tuna plate on salad greens (sans dressing, Weight Watchers 0 smart points!). Others in our group had shrimp/avocado salad, Thai filet salad, harvest salad, ravioli,and burgers, and everyone was very happy with their meal. All in all, this place has great atmosphere, with really nice food and wine, and attentive service. We spoke to the manager David and he said they had had some missteps in the past but were working hard and improving. We certainly had nothing but praise for our experience there. Celebrated my parents' birthday at the Rutledge and it was an excellent evening. I ordered the steak and it was close to magic. The steak was really tender and properly grilled. After the main course, I decided to order some cookies with milk. Those cookies really did a great job closing the evening. Quick recommendation - please consider playing classic jazz or perhaps instrumental jazz music. The right kind of music could improve the atmosphere of the restaurant. I also recommend adding some sliders when serving cold beverage. We didn't get any sliders for our drinks. They made our table a bit "messy" with that rings of condensation on the table. Last but not least, please consider adding some lemon or lime on your glass of water. Don't just put tap water and add ice - we expect that when we dine at mom and pop or whole in the wall restaurant. The Rutledge is neither. I can't wait to return. Perhaps next time, I will try the sushi. read more

My husband I went for happy hour and sat at the bar. The decor and atmosphere are great. The service was awesome, the beer was cold and my old fashioned was amazing. Half off most apps is a huge plus. We ordered the spinach dip and shrimp bahn mi - both were good. After two apps weren't starving so decided to share a couple of sushi rolls - this is the reason for 3 stars. The sushi was terrible. The rice was mushy and the seaweed was chewy. We are fans of the Rutledge in franklin so couldn't wait to check out the new downtown location. We loved it. It's a beautiful space with really interesting artwork. Everything we ordered was delicious. My daughter had the filet, my husband had the ahi tuna and we had some some great appetizers too. Our server, Lauren, couldn't have been more sweet, attentive, and knowledgeable. Their wine list was extensive and she was really helpful in selecting a bottle. First time diner at The Rutledge. Love the ambiance. Corner booth with 4 other friends made conversation easy. The shrimp cocktail appetizer is delicious but a bit pricey for 4 shrimp. The lobster roll has an interesting taste but too little lobster and way too much cold bread. Having eaten lobster rolls in Maine, this was the most non-traditional lobster roll I've ever had and wouldn't order it again. I tasted mostly the tarragon in the sauce. The lobster mac and cheese had more lobster but was a bit dry and overcooked but the flavor was nice. Service was good. I'll give it another try. read more

It was the "okayest" meal I've ever had. The restaurant itself is beautiful and the bar is nice. The drinks were pretty good. The rest could be described as "meh." The cheese and nut plate consisted of grocery store cheese cubes and salted Planters nuts. The server couldn't even tell us what cheeses we were eating. When you have a cheese plate at an upscale restaurant, you expect someone to be able to tell you what's on it. There were no daily specials. We asked the server to give an opinion about which items to select and it was obvious she hadn't tried either item. The food itself was...just fine. Not great, not gross. But for the prices we paid, we expected much more. We frequent restaurants of this echelon, and it was certainly not up to par. Pass on this one if you're expecting a memorable night out. read more

We showed up on a Saturday evening and the hostess asked for our party size, we told her 4. Once she realized we did not have a reservation she told us unfortunately they would not be able to seat us. There were empty tables everywhere. This is a good place, but I would not recommend ordering any salads. They're very lacking in ingredients for the price you pay. I would recommend the mashed sweet potatoes and Brussel sprouts. The veggie burger was not good. It was mushy, and lacking any flavor. The French dip sandwich we okay, aside from the bun/bread it was served on, which was completely stale. On that, the waitress said, "I've heard that before," offering nothing to fix the situation. So just order side dishes, and you're good to go. read more

Tried appetizers at the bar because I'm a gastric sleeve patient. Tried avocado deviled eggs...horrible. Everything was bad except the egg holding the horrid mixture on top. The bacon topping was I swear chopped up bacon dog treats. TERRIBLE Then I tried the steak rollups. The deep fried flour tortilla tasted like old over used oil and absorbed it completely. The steak inside could have been good but they put oily cheese in and combined with the fat release for the meat, cheese and tortilla drenched in nasty oil I felt like I drank a glass of vegetable oil. Bar service was a solid "10". Restaurant was beautiful too. Very hard working staff didn't miss a beat. It's hard traveling for business when you are limited to what you can eat and when you find a couple good looking protein based items they fall flat on their face. BTW The manager came by and Zi showed him this review prior to posting and he was an absolute gentleman!! Hotel next door gave me a recommendation on this place. We recently ate at the Rutledge & the food was absolutely spot on. We live in west Nashville & it's a bit of a drive for us but we'll worth it. Katie was our server/bartender. Her personality was perfectly splendid & made us feel like we were her family eating at her home. I went this past weekend with some friends. We made a reservation because it was a Saturday night, and we heard that it was good so thought it may be busy. When we walked in, it immediately felt like they just realized they made a mistake. It appeared that one of the "hostesses" gave away our table of 5 to a walk-in. Took a while for them to seat us, so Not a great start. I ordered 1 cocktail, and a salad as we had a late lunch so I wasn't super hungry. The music got progressively louder over the course of our meal, for no real discernible reason. It was not overly crowded, bar was not full and there wasn't a line. Mind you, this was a little before 7p, so the lack of patrons and the unnecessarily loud music was baffling. And, annoying club-y music at that. Looking at the menu, the prices preclude your average 20-something that this music would likely appeal to. Cocktail and food were fine, not bad or disappointing, but certainly nothing spectacular. What Was Spectacular was what They thought their extra dirty Belvidere vodka martini was worth...wait for it...24.00.!! WTF My entre salad was 26.00. Also a little overpriced, but a meal. And, Trust me when I say that this was in No way a 24.00 martini. I have had a 24.00 martini and it was miles above this one. This was "average" at best, even with the blue cheese olives. This was just an overall very lacking experience, so unless I am out with a group that Really, Really wants to go back, I do not see ever returning to this establishment. This place has as solid wine list. Coming from the Bay Area (20 minutes from Napa), they have a decent selection of solid brands (Silver Oak, Stag's Leap, Caymus, Cakebread, Prisoner). I would love to see some Tuscans/Left Bank Bordeaux/To Kalon but I'm not complaining with the selection they have here! The ambiance is very modern and I love sitting at the bar. I've had a great meal from here which made me come back and a very average meal. So be careful what you order. I think the lobster roll is a favorite and you can't go wrong. However my husband got the caprese salad and it was a large tomato cut in places with cheese in between. Normally it's plated with basil leaves so a bit disappointed at the presentation. I got a Thai steak noodle salad. However the only thing Thai about it apparently were the noodles. It was bland and very ordinary and I asked for the steak medium and it was well done. I didn't finish it. The hostess did offer to deduct half the price from the bill after I said I didn't understand what was Thai about it. It should have been labeled a side salad with Thai noodles. We did get the lobster bisque soup which was very good but not very hot more tepid. I know there are conflicting ideas about temp for this soup. The reason I've given them 3 stars is because the surroundings are lovely and my first meal there was great. My husband said he'd go back again but I'm not that inclined. If you drink alcohol with your meal expect a hefty bill. All in all it's worth a try and maybe you'll order the right dish. Good luck. read more

Excellent meal and excellent service. We are at 7:45 pm Saturday. Place was busy. We did not need a reservation. Ordered salmon Santa Monica sushi roll, delicious. Hot chicken sandwich and vegetable burger were really good. They allowed us to substitute fries for veges(broccolini and Brussels w balsamic vinegar). Asked for extra buffalo sauce for hot chicken sandwich which was the missing piece. For dessert we had the fruit and cream. Homemade creme brûlée and homemade whip cream. Very refreshing.
