We had such a wonderful experience at The Rutledge in Franklin! We started with the prime rib rolls, which were absolutely delicious. For dinner, we had the special Cobb salad and the Tuscan shrimp pasta -- both were fantastic. The atmosphere was perfect for a date night, but what really made the evening special was our server, Cameron. He was incredibly personable, very knowledgeable about the menu, and offered some great recommendations. You could tell he genuinely cared about making sure we had a great experience. And definitely save room for dessert! The apple cobbler was amazing -- honestly, it's worth going back for all by itself. Everything from the food to the atmosphere to the service was wonderful. Woof... so after talking this place up to my coworkers we go and it was a totally different experience. I was talking up this drink I originally had there, but also had at the sister location in DT Nashville that they called to get the recipe and surprised me at the table with after raving about it (the international) the waitress proceeded to argue that I had the name wrong it was a pretty gross experience. Do not look at any online menus wait until you get to the restaurant. We had a colleague who is celiac we asked about a separate menu (you would have thought I asked if they did brain surgery) because there are no markers on the regular menu, the waitress proceeds to lecture the person on what they should order at restaurants... She was a different individual interacting with the mens end of the table than she was with the lady's side. We opted to share several things. Thankfully the food is still on point. My wife and I took my father and mother out to celebrate their 47th anniversary. We went for lunch as they don't like driving when it is late. Three of us had cheeseburgers and my wife had the French dip. The burgers were good. Nice paddy cooked to our choice with fresh toppings. My wife's complaint was the bread for the French dip was not crusty as she was expecting but otherwise good. We all had drinks and the bill was right at $200. What a beautiful restaurant! First time here and been wanting to try the one in Nashville but my friend lived closer to this one. They had the Après winter theme set up and it was really nice. And they even had a photobooth area which I didn't partake but wish I did. I got the lobster bisque and the lobster roll with fries and both was delicious. The Rutledge has an upscale vibe, delicious cocktails, and decent food. My husband and I recently dined here during a day date. I loved the decor and vibe of the restaurant. It had the upscale vibe I like for time away from my kids. It was a very open restaurant. The service was efficient, but impersonal. It lacked the warm and welcoming hospitality you'd expect at a more upscale spot. I started with the Sapphire cocktail. This was my favorite part of my meal. It was delicious and a nice balance of flavors. I love little details like nice glassware. I loved the etched cocktail glasses. I ordered the 8 ounce Filet and a side of Brussels Sprouts. Both items are listed as a la carte with the steak described as having a cognac caramelized onion butter on top. What arrived was confusing. The side I had planned to share with my husband was under my steak and the plate was some sort of saucy stacked mess. I don't like A1 and the sauce reminded me of that. I didn't want to complain while trying to enjoy kid free time with my husband, but this was utterly disappointing. The steak was okay, not good enough to order again. I did a poll on my instagram page and 100% said they'd be surprised to receive this mess when ordering an a la carte steak. Other photos on Yelp don't look like this either. My husband enjoyed his Braised Short Rib. The short rib was tender. The mashed potatoes and carrots were okay. We finished off the meal with Limoncello and Mascarpone Cake. This was a lighter dessert. It wasn't super flavorful or worthy of ordering again. I'd try this spot again, but more for the ambiance and cocktails. Threw a baby shower there for some friends and the restaurant and staff did a great job. The server Anna was spectacular. They were so easy to work with on pricing and menus, drinks included. This place is a bit of a sleeper--the food and drinks are always outstanding. We moved to Brentwood five years ago and discovered The Rutledge shortly after. We've loved it from day one. There are plenty of dining options in our area, but none have been as consistently delicious as The Rutledge. Every visit reminds us why it's become one of our favorite spots. Part of me selfishly wants to keep it a secret, but after five years of great meals and experiences, I felt it was time to let everyone know just how amazing this place really is. One of my favorite places in Cool Springs. Lobster roll is the bomb. Upscale place, reasonable prices and the service is always great.

I had to think about this compared to other restaurants where I'm going to spend nearly $200 for a fairly straightforward meal of a side salad, burger, sushi, dessert and drinks. The service was good, although he was a bit pushy trying to encourage some members of our party to buy an overpriced bottle of wine that would only be a $2/glass savings. The cocktails were terribly overpriced and quite small. $20 for a small-ish lemon drop martini. $8 for a beer, so nothing crazy there. Their tap system doesn't work. A plain, but thick and substantial burger was good at $22. The surf and turf sushi tasted nothing like surf and turf, but it was still good and nicely presented. I didn't taste lobster and there seemed to be some shaved filet on top. The side Caesar was good. Desserts were the high point. The apple cobbler was enough to feed 6 people. It's a nice place, modern interior, but was nearly empty. Perhaps 4 other tables at 6:00 pm on a Sunday night. So the moral of the story, is that at the price point, this is a 2.5 place. What's odd is that the ownership must be so pretentious and counting on the Williamson County location, that there is not a single response to an inordinate number of low scoring reviews, mostly around price and food quality for that level. A month ago 4 of us at work went for a gals birthday for lunch. Walking into this place it has a beautiful atmosphere and that it is very expensive. Well we are in prime lunch hour in Franklin where places are normally out the door with wait times and the first thing we notice is the only people in here are us and maybe 2 other tables the whole lunch time?! Three of us ordered the French-dip and one ordered the lobster rolls, none of us finished our food. The other three just left their food there. I personally felt the meat was WAY too done and greasy, the fries were good though. I did end up taking my other half of sandwich home but didn't end up eating it because my stomach hurt so bad from lunch, I figured it would be safer to throw out. The company paid for the lunch, but I would not go there again as the food quality and quantity did not live up to the prices and I would not pay that. read more

I could tell the table across from us was having problems and had sent their steak back a couple of times. The server looked annoyed but I'm not sure if it was with the customer or the kitchen. A busy Friday night in Cool Springs and we walked into the Rutledge and got seated in seconds. Several tables still open at 6:00, ok there is a reason. Started off with drinks, the Old Fashioned was ok, the ice was clear! For dinner I ordered a Lobster Roll, Lobster Mac & Cheese and a skillet corn bread. The Lobster roll was a little dry and was bland not much flavor, needed some melted butter, the Lobster Mac was creamy and hot but again lacked a cheesy flavor. Meh. Truly not impressed with this place. Three stars to me means "it was alright, but I wouldn't spend my hard earned money here again." It wasn't too busy, but the service was slow. As far as the food goes: Shishito peppers: incredibly overcooked and mushy. Great flavor, though. Shrimp pasta: I could/have made something way better at home. In my opinion, it was an oily, bland mess. Half chicken: my husband liked it, but again, wouldn't pay for it again. For the price, we expected to be wowed. Summary: The Rutledge is a nice restaurant with a balanced menu and great service. Food tasted delicious, fresh, and prepared with love. Beat for parties of 2 or 4, as they only have two tables which sit 5 or more. I would go back with a smaller group or on an intimate date night. Now the Deets: A last minute change of plans required us to try and find a reservation for 6 on the Saturday night! It was a happy surprise but difficult to nail down. I called the Rutledge and they were able to get us a reservation at 8:30 PM, requiring a credit card and forewarning me that cancelations would be a $25 per person charge. Now, if that's not motivation for someone to keep their reservation, I don't know what is! Lol. Having confirmed with everyone that there would be no more change of plans, we scheduled the reservation and got excited for a lovely night at the Rutledge. Arriving early, we sat at the bar and enjoyed drinks while we waited for our travel. French martini was good, white wine blend was yummy, and House old fashioned hit the spot for the guys. When we checked back about our table at our reservation time, they assured us it wouldn't be long. Turns out. The tables for larger parties are very limited and the current party was lingering. Botnally totally fine, but there was a babysitter situation putting pressure on our time as well. Anyways, table was ready about 20 min after resy time, but no sweat off our backs. Two drinks in, we were all having a good time. Apps: Tuna Crisps, & California Roll were a hit. Avocado Deviled eggs and Charcuterie board were yummy, but not worth getting again. Sides and salads: the Rutledge salad was fresh and flavorful, definitely hit the spot and the Lobster Bisque was one of the best I've ever had! Large chunks of fresh lobster and a perfectly Creamy base. Drooling now, just remembering! The lobster Mac and Cheese was delicious and cooked very well. Loaded baked potato was certainly Loaded!! Steaks and Seafood: no complaints from the Filet fans. The Bone-in Cowgirl Ribeye was tasty but not worth the price in my opinion. Salmon was worth it!! Wine: The malbec was a hit. We also ordered a bottle of the "super exclusive" Rutledge Cabernet Sauvignon that "wasn't even on the menu yet." For $120/bottle, 3 of us enjoyed about two $20/ glasses of wine and it paired well with the steak. I'm not big on buying expensive bottles of wine at Steak houses because I usually bring my own and pay the corkage fee. The markup on wine is usually not worth it in my opinion, but that's just me! Feel free to try and change my mind. No dessert was offered, we were all stuffed anyways, but may have indulged if it was offered. We ate here for my birthday dinner. We had a reservation and they printed out a birthday card which was a nice touch. The prime rib, potato, and blackened mahi mahi tacos were excellent. Probably the best fish tacos I've ever had - the chimichurri sauce on it was so delicious! The only downside was the Brussels sprouts, theirs were probably the worst I've ever had a restaurant and I often order brussel sprouts as they are one of my favorite foods. On a slow Monday night for a party of 8 we had terrible service, and there was nothing upscale about the food. My wife had done her homework and knew what she wanted, starting with their "Top Shelf" Manhattan. When we asked which Bourbon was their "Top Shelf," all we heard was your choice, and that the The Rutledge was now making their own Bourbon. When we asked the price, all we got was "it depends" on which Bourbon we selected - which is entirely accurate and completely useless in helping someone make a choice. Moving on from there, 1/2 the table wanted wine so we ordered a bottle of Quilt, only to find out 20 minutes later they didn't have it. Our replacement order of a bottle of The Prisoner arrived just as I finished my meal. Can't make this up. When it came time for the check, it was split 4 ways even-Steven, with no item by item receipt. We asked if tip was included, and our waitress said no. When we did the math, the answer was yes, or there was an 18% surcharge for splitting the ticket. This waitress is a sorry example of a profession I proudly served in. Chef Elmo would turn in his grave if someone on his staff treated people this way. The food would have to be astounding to overcome the service mess, but it wasn't. No chef was required to make my shrimp and pasta, just a little extra pepper sauce on a very skimpy traditional menu item. And the consensus of the folks who went with the "Signature" Meatball was, meehhh. One member thought "North Italia's" was superior. I will say the monochrome ambiance is just that, and sets the tone for the place. As this was our second experience, and what a downgrade this visit was, it'll be a while before we head back to The Rutledge. read more

We have been to The Rutledge for personal and business dinners and so far it has been consistently 4 out of 5 stars. To get to 5 they need to pay more attention to the needs of the table as well as work on changing the entry selections seasonally. We were pleased with the signature cocktails and drink options and had a great time. That was Jan 1. Had lunch The Rutledge, not very busy and we were seated immediately. The décor here is classy and is relaxing. Our server Stacy is a joy, great personality and the best part of the visit. Ordered the Steak Rolls appetizer, they arrived hot, tasted good, and the sauce was an interesting flavor for the steak. For lunch ordered the Meatball Marinara and Lobster Mac & Cheese. The flavors for the marinara sauce and the meatballs was good but the bottom of meatballs were overcooked. The Lobster Mac & Cheese disappointing. The first order had to be sent back to the kitchen...the pasta was cold. The second order was hot, but the dish should be called Mac & Cheese with some lobster thrown on top. This dish has the potential to be incredible, but in this case the potential was unfulfilled and it was a bowl of expensive Mac & Cheese. First of all the construction and design is fantastic. Do you think you're in Vegas and is fantastic for Cool Springs. Something different for the adults. Years ago, I was told you could tell the income of an area by going to the meat selection at the grocery store. Look at the steaks and see how thin or thick they're cut. The surface area of a steak is going to be the same either way. The thicker the cut, the more money in that shopping area. It's an optical illusion of perceived value. I had to know this information as a quick read of these demographics for my job. This is before demographics were available on the Internet 25 years ago but it's still relevant. Well, this tip works in restaurants too. Look at the $48 ribeye. It was $32 thin. On top of that, it was tasteless. I had a douse with salt. The compound butter, usually a red flag for lack of flavor in the proteins, didn't help. It was, however, perfectly cooked, medium rare. Many of the reviews here are very accurate. I dined at Rutledge on Monday, January 11, 2021 at 7 pm. The interior design of the dining area looked really nice. I appreciated how the tables are arranged and spaced out, which gives the overall restaurant an openness and a flow. For starters: Don't be fooled by the shrimp wontons, they're just shrimp wrapped in wonton wrappers. I thought the hot honey was a weird sauce to eat with the "wontons" because it's so sweet. Sweet chili sauce would've been better. Honey sauce needed some spice to cut the sweetness. The Buffalo salmon sliders were pretty good. Salmon was cooked well. Steak rolls tasted reminiscent of a cheese burger, which I found to be a heavy starter. The gouda was so rich and the steak was nicely seasoned. For entrees: The Scottish salmon was just an average grilled salmon. Nothing Scottish about it. The sweet potato mash was overwhelmed with cinnamon. The 1/2 rotisserie chicken tasted moist and seasoned. Brussel sprouts however tasted undercooked and bitter, unfortunately. The meatball was so dense and dry, it needed to be stewed in a sauce. The side of lobster mac and cheese was great, I'd recommend it. Service was okay. Food came out quickly for what seemed like a busy snowy Monday evening. Really want to like the Rutledge as a sort of upscale sports bar, but it's still just not hitting all the notes. Draft selection is still sadly puny - 2 IPAs, a stout and a lager with a rather off flavor. Still don't think the bar manager likes beer. The cocktail menu is more extensive and wife complemented the sapphire cocktail, but stuck to just one. Lobster roll main sounded great to share. 4 halves and a pile of fries. Fries were hot crisp and nicely seasoned. Lobster had been fussed with a bit, some combination of spices that didn't entirely work. Perhaps we were jaded, having just had Cousins food truck's fabulous main rolls. It was plenty for the two of us, but wouldn't order the Rutledge lobster roll again. It's an attractive space, parking's plentiful, service is good. I've no doubt we'll give it another shot, it really should be a place we seek out regularly.
