For those of us who frequently dine in Cool Springs, we've needed a place like this for a very long time! True, no area of Tennessee offers fast food, cheap eats, and every single American franchise like the enormous span of businesses between exits 67 and 69. But the Rutledge finally fills a long-standing void for an upscale restaurant with serious cuisine on the east side of I-65. THE PROS - The Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich is so fabulous that I think it rivals Prince's South, 400 Degrees, and Silo as one of the top hot chickens in Middle Tennessee! I didn't see that coming, maybe the best-kept hot chicken secret in town! The batter is unique with fine crumbs and the perfect spice level, all surrounding the most tender chicken patty. It comes with pickles and a very good slaw. The spinach and artichoke dip is seriously among the best I've ever tasted, with ample pieces of artichokes and a flavorful parmesan sauce like I've never had! I think we needed more chips though. At this point, I was about ready to hand out a 5-star rating! THE CONS - The shaved prime rib in the French Dip Sandwich was very fresh, but the meat needed to be warm, not cold. The brie on the sandwich doesn't work either, flavorless, gooey, distracting. Admittedly, the best french dip on the planet is only 2.5 miles away at BrickTop's and nothing compares! Unfair or not, this french dip needs work. THE PRETTY GOOD - The lobster mac & cheese side item is enormous, and both the size and richness require a party of four to share it! The crispy breadcrumb topping is stellar and the chunks of actual lobster are amazing! But I prefer cheesy macaroni over creamy macaroni, and this is extremely creamy! Again, that cream sauce is so rich you can't eat it alone! THE SMALL DETAILS - Little things make The Rutledge a great restaurant, from the comfy white chairs to the insignia on the kitchen glass. Having no ice in the cold water is such a refreshing change (many people don't want ice, yet every restaurants insists on it). And the bathroom doors open outward instead inward, finally! Very few restaurants offer this, forcing one to touch the bacteria-laden door handle after washing their hands before returning to eat. Thanks for the little things Rutledge. I went to The Rutledge for brunch today with a friend and was immediately shocked by how empty the restaurant was for a Sunday during brunch time. I think we might have just been early because it did end up filling a little more. We ordered the cinnamon rolls which were delicious! I then ordered the French toast for my meal - also, delicious but it wasn't served with any syrup which I found odd. The breakfast potatoes were a great balance of salty and savory. My side of bacon was crispy and yummy. My friend ordered the avocado toast, which looked yummy. We ordered the mimosa flight which was only mildly disappointing for the price considering the juices we received were orange, pineapple, and cranberry juices - all from a bottle, not fresh squeezed or anything to really warrant the price point for me. I'm leaving four stars because I did feel like the brunch options were good, the prices were generally fair for Nashville food, and the staff were attentive. Not sure where to start.... I have never seen a restaurant staff so confused, or have trouble with the basics. First note.... I'm not old, or complaining in any way. But this place is having a struggle on whether it wants to be a dance club, or higher end restaurant. On several occasions our waitress either forgot something, or said, "I'm so sorry, the music is so loud, I couldn't hear what you are asking for". Multiple wrong dishes where delivered to our table throughout the night. Not a big deal, but come on. With Covid are they throwing that food out, or putting it back into inventory to serve again. As for the food, ordered three apps. Received two of them before our meal. Then the third arrived with my meal. Also, let me spare you the disappointment of ordering the "sweet corn" appetizer, or side. I had both..... It equates to $6 for one ear of corn, or $12 for two. Sliced 4 times/long ways, and thrown on the grill for a minute or two. Appetizer version was seasoned ok. "Entree Side" version had no seasoning, and was pretty bitter. They were out of nearly any and ever beer. Waitress blamed the distributor(s) because of Covid, but no other local restaurants seem to have this problem in the area. I picked up the tab for a business meal with 5 guests, including myself. A casual survey at the end/walking to our cars was, "eh it was okay". For the amount of my check, I expected a better response. My own personal opinion is the same as my customers. In the end..... If underwhelming needed a new synonym - it now has one... i had high hopes for this place. I really did. The place is gorgeous. Don't get me wrong. We walked in and it was a really awesome ambiance off the top. The problem came after sitting down and ordering our first course. 1st of all. NO MIMOSA IN THE WORLD IS WORTH $17. I can get behind a spendy mimosa or Bloody Mary (especially with lots of garnish) but for a standard - out-the-bottle mimosa you've got to be kidding me ! So i passed on a boozy brunch and just went for the food. Overall we had deviled eggs to start (supposedly topped with candied bacon) , a few waffles for the kids (where two sliced strawberries constitute a $3 up charge ) and salads and some sushi for the adults. EVERYTHING was bland. There is literally no flavor character to anything we ate today. That and the presentation was awful. The deviled eggs were topped over and split onto the plate and the sushi was rolled loosely and impossible to eat. The service was ok... for a Chili's-but not for an upscale restaurant... not even mildly. We will NEVER BE BACK to this place. Why waste time in cool springs with places like this when you've got great options around the corner like Tupelo Honey, Brick tops or 55 South just a short drive away? My husband & I dined here again lastnight... He got the salmon because he remembered how good mine was last time we ate here, and I got one of their most popular entrées (lobster rolls)... I also got a kale couscous salad... The food was delicious... I suggest requesting their citrus vinaigrette to add to the salad, which I did. NOTE: I do have a major complaint about this place... Even though it's an upscale restaurant, the alcoholic drinks are over priced... I had the signature Pineapple Mojito, and it was delicious... But, I about fainted and threw up my food, when I saw the price of that drink $14.95... It mostly consisted of ice, Club Soda and mint leaves... So, it was a rip off... Stuck in a RUTledge There are times when the food in a restaurant isn't right. There are times when the service isn't quite there. And there are places where the management is inferior. Rutledge managed to hit the trifecta tonight. The only thing worse than having a bad dining out experience is having it at a place where the manager and staff don't give two craps. One of us ordered a filet, cooked medium rare. One of us ordered a burger, cooked well. The third ordered an item on the menu called steak rolls. Here is the description from the menu: "steak rolls, served with chimichurri." The burger came out and was sitting in a pool of blood. The steak was a smack on the butt from being able to run back out in the pasture. The "steak rolls" were seemingly cooked thoroughly but only because they were DEEP FRIED like egg rolls. That's right. We were just as surprised as you are. You were expecting steak and biscuits and not carnival food, right? Well, we were, too. So while steak rolls was over there eating his Midway special, the other two of us sent our meat back to finish cooking. And waited. And waited. For about 20 minutes. I forgot I was hungry. When the food came out, it was the manager who brought it, along with a lukewarm apology to match the steak. The burger was cooked this time. The steak was actually still a tad under but at least edible. We hurriedly shoveled our food down as Steak Rolls had been finished for some time. The check came and we were surprised there had been no adjustment to the bill. Steak Rolls inquired about this and the waitress snapped back, "well we did refire it for you" as though that somehow squared things up or even possibly that they did us a solid. She yanked the ticket off the table and hastily retreated to the kitchen saying she would check with the manager. A few minutes later, she came out and slapped the revised check down, now with a 10% discount, and said "there ya go." There we go, alright. Right out the door, never to return. Bottom line: to err is human. Especially in the kitchen. To put the customer's experience and happiness first above all else? That's what sets the super heroes apart from the rest of the pack. There is no room for mediocrity in this post-apocalyptic dining landscape we find ourselves in currently. read more

Pleasant surprise, mostly with with quality of the food. I was hesitant at the beginning what to expect, since when I was trying to make reservation in "open table" credit card was required to guarantee reservation. AT the veru end that make a sense. Service was good. Happy hour is not a big deal, is one dolar of regular Price. Appetizers are half of the regular price and ends at 6pm. Now the all what we ordered was delicious, starting with Tuna Tacos and Spinach Artichoke dip. Avocado and Shrimp salad excellent and very generous portions. Quite a few very tasty shrimps. You will not leave the Rutledge hungry. Atmosphere is pleasant, noise level low and is easy to have conversation during the dinner. Like a lot a big art piece on the wall by the Artist named Alec. This is a case of 3 strikes. I have tried, y'all. For 5 years I have tried. You simply cannot charge people for high end food if you're not delivering high end plates. I have never had a steak cooked to the proper temperature .... A $48 filet? Come on. Here's my third strike ... coming from a chef who noticed every last detail. A discounted happy hour shrimp cocktail at $16; Over cooked, over seasoned , an unnecessary excess of (too sweet) cocktail sauce that's a little hard to get to in some shot glasses for presentation of shrimp that has not been cleaned properly. Like most bars and restaurants maneuvering through Covid the number of customers was down but it was still loads of fun being out. The staff was friendly and the service was attentive. I ordered the spicy tuna roll and a charcuterie board. Both of these items taste good with the tuna roll being the better of the two. The cheese on the charcuterie board was warm so it made me wonder how long it had been sitting out. Some of the edges on the cheddar cheese were hard. Since they are cut in cubes this is a good indicator of age. I was also disappointed to see that several of the grapes were mushy and should have been weeding out befor serving. Lastly..they have delicious hand crafted cocktails that are the real star of the establishment. read more

Friday evening my friends and I went out to celebrate my boyfriends 24th birthday here. We had a reservation for 7 and were seated promptly when we arrived at a nice large circular booth. Our server brought us all waters and I asked what beers they had and he said he would get me a list. Usually when someone says they have a list, I assume that means they have more than 10 beers. Unfortunately, their selection was minimal, just your typical beer menu. My friends and I all love sour beers so we were hoping they would have at-least one available but they did not so we all stuck with Coronas. For appetizers we ordered the skillet cornbread, lobster roll, and steak rolls. Everyone really like the skillet cornbread, honey butter that was served with is was delicious. The lobster roll was underwhelming, after eating a lobster roll last weekend from the food truck this was sub par. The ratio of lobster meat to bun was off. Only the center bite of the roll had an adequate amount of lobster (reference the picture I posted). The steak rolls were okay, not bad but I wouldn't order them again. The entrees no one seemed to have any complaints. The French dip was very good, I have a high standard when it comes to French dips. The prime rib was perfectly cooked and the au jus was yummy. I got roasted Brussel sprouts as a side, though they had good flavor I thought they could have been cooked a little longer. My friend ordered the seasonal pasta with was made with pumpkin and a Cajun Alfredo which she really enjoyed. The Scottish salmon and the filet were also good but the asparagus served with them were not cut properly so the ends of them were inedible. Overall, the food was good. The ambiance was nice and the bathrooms were very clean. I figured since we were celebrating a birthday we would have been offered something considering the hefty bill for all the food and drinks we ordered. The service was okay. Was quite disappointed with this place after hearing such great reviews. I know staffing is hard right now, but our server was rude and barely spoke to us. We order the charcuterie board and our meat was gray, the strawberries were old, and the grapes were mush. We both ordered avocado chicken sandwich which was salted to death and barely edible. We ordered the Lobster Roll and it was okay. It was rather fishy and under seasoned. Bread was good and well toasted. The chips were really good and crispy, just not seasoned. The best part of our order was the Banh Mi Shrimp starter! That was a pleasant surprise! It tasted fresh and exactly like a Banh Mi. The Cheese Plate was surprisingly large. Both cheeses we're good - a creamy selection and a sharp one. The accompanying fruit spread was really a watered down jam - we weren't fans of it. Nuts were great and bread was good. The meats that accompanied were good, but a little skimpy on the prosciutto. We really didn't understand the flavored Triscuits that came with it (maybe more bread or a water cracker would have been better)? Overall it was decent. They offer lunch specials and beautiful cocktails but no bread while you wait for your meal :/ The food was great though, no complaints! I got the ahi tuna salad which was some perfectly! A total miss. Not sure where to even start with this one. To begin with it is LOUD inside the restaurant. Thumping dance club loud, so loud my wife and I could barely understand each other and we were sitting directly across from each other in a small booth. So loud the server came back twice to verify what we had ordered, and even she stated she could not hear well over the noise. Then the food. I ordered a filet. Medium. It arrived and did not looked like it had been on the grill very long. One cut with the knife exposed an ice-cold, uncooked center. Off it went back to the kitchen. 10 or so minutes later the steak was returned. Well done. And the the Brussels sprouts, that went back to the kitchen with the steak, were now cold. The guy who returned it to our table shrugged and walked away. Another weird thing, Our tabletop was polished to a mirror finish, and our plates spun with the slightest nudge of a fork or knife. It was utter comedy watching each other trying to cut through our meat. The prices on the menu suggest this should be one of the better restaurants in the area. It is not. We hit The Rutledge at a great time. It was not very crowded in the middle of the afternoon. We were drastically underdressed, but it was fine. We had the shrimp for an appetizer, and it was great. I could have just eaten it. For our entrees, we had a lobster roll and a variety of sushi. The reason for the four is this place just didn't hit right. The food was good, but not worth the price. The atmosphere was too fancy for us. Next time we will try a hole in the wall instead. read more

I can't believe how bad this experience was. It started with the service. We sat at a high top table by the bar. The bartender dropped off menus and waters and never said a word then, went behind the bar and began talking to his co workers and making drinks for the service well. I waited 13 minutes before I got up and walked to the bar to order a drink. Moving forward, I had the prime rib(was the only great thing about this experience). My date ordered the filet which had to be recooked twice due to it being extremely over cooked the first time and undercooked the second time around. A manager never once came by and talked to us or addressed the fact that it took an hour to finally get a properly cooked steak. We came to the Rutledge at the Franklin location, for our son's birthday. Service: Over all the service was great. They made him feel special and acknowledged his special day. Food: we ordered the banh mi, pressed sushi, rib eye steaks, and lobster bisque. Banh mi: was mediocre at best, the dish should not be called banh mi as this was missing the essence of what a banh mi is. The veggies were not dressed with any type of seasoning, the shrimp was deep fried with no Vietnamese flavors. It's more a po boy than it is a banh mi. The veggies and shrimp were placed on nan, and covered with what tasted like teriyaki sauce from a Japanese take away. Great dish, but should not be called Banh Mi. It was a disappointing banh mi, and would've been an ok po boy at best. Pressed sushi: tasted like it was pre-made, and had been sitting in a refrigerator waiting to get served. The riced did not have adequate seasoning for sushi rice, it was served too cold, so the rice was kind of hard. You will get better quality type sushi at a Japanese take away. Asian components of the dishes tasted as if the chef does not have adequate knowledge of what these dishes should truly be. Rib eye: cooked perfectly. They were great. Lobster bisque: no true lobster flavor. You could taste the alcohol from the white wine that was in the soup. As if the pan wasn't hot enough when the white wine was used to deglaze it. It tasted like cream with white wine, but with the color of lobster bisque. Over all, the service was great, food is below mediocre and not really good value for money. We did not say anything to server because we did not want to ruin our son's birthday experience. Overall just ok. read more
