About as good of a date-night restaurant in Franklin as you'll find. Modern decor (Hey, is that a Banksy?) and great cocktails, beer/wine selection. The Rutledge offers a sophistication without the attitude. We've been here twice. The service was great and the food was spot on. Great place for couples, but also good for a business lunch or after work hang. Only complaint is that it's a little hard to get to. Wish they had an entrance right onto Carothers. This is a great alternative to J Alex or Bricktops in the Cool Springs area. They have an impressive bar and out of the three tenders there one was really nice Becuase I heard her introduce herself to other patrons. Ours was not as jovial but she made us some great drinks. We went to the table and our service was good but it was obvious the waiter wanted to be somewhere else. The meal was really good. I had the ahi tuna salad which was the special and everything came out perfectly. So, while the service was good, it's obvious that they (along with everyone else) is short staffed. I would recommend this place for a date night or just stop in for an upscale drink. Just remember to be nice and hopefully the staff can snap out of being a bit of a downer. read more

Tried appetizers at the bar because I'm a gastric sleeve patient. Tried avocado deviled eggs...horrible. Everything was bad except the egg holding the horrid mixture on top. The bacon topping was I swear chopped up bacon dog treats. TERRIBLE Then I tried the steak rollups. The deep fried flour tortilla tasted like old over used oil and absorbed it completely. The steak inside could have been good but they put oily cheese in and combined with the fat release for the meat, cheese and tortilla drenched in nasty oil I felt like I drank a glass of vegetable oil. Bar service was a solid "10". Restaurant was beautiful too. Very hard working staff didn't miss a beat. It's hard traveling for business when you are limited to what you can eat and when you find a couple good looking protein based items they fall flat on their face. The experience was absolutely phenomenal! The vibe was very modern and chill. The food was delicious. You must order the lobster rolls! Buffalo salmon sliders were bomb! Drinks were great as well. The restaurant is nice. Our service was good but the food was mediocre at best. We didn't eat our lobster appetizer because it tasted so fishy. My husband had steak and said it was terrible as did our friend. Very pricey, which we knew it was from looking at the menu ahead of time. We were expecting more of Capital Grille quality food. I've yet to find a food I didn't like until now. I was hesitant going to this restaurant because of the reviews and the menu. Looked like mediocre food at best. But we decided to give it a shot for my birthday. Y'all. It was. So.bad. Continue for a long, awful story of my worst dining experience ever. Walked it and the place was almost dead. Get to our table and a sweet note was there wishing me a happy birthday. Order an espresso and fries for the baby. My husband doesn't have a water and asks for one. 15 min later everything arrives. Apparently the espresso machine broke but is all better now. Fries are hot and well seasoned. Espresso is Luke warm, watered down drip coffee. I still truck on, that can't ruin my experience, we order our appetizer and entrees. Tuna tartare is our starter, it arrives like 15 min later. Looks like half dollar chunks on mushed avocado with two slices of radish on top, sitting in a pool of soy sauce-like I made something similar when I was in middle school. Still gonna give it a go- OMG i want to spit out ( and y'all I eat everything!) it was so salty it made my mouth pucker. I thought maybe if I mix it up? Even worse it was so salty I could not even try to choke it down. I chug my water. I had to send back, my first dish ever to send back. So bad, my heart sinks, this is going to be awful. My entree arrives a good 20 minutes afterwards (we arrived at 12:30 and finally got our food at 1:30). We had to ask our sever when the food was going to arrive, 5 minutes later she is bringing all of it out. As a previous server, I figure it has been sitting there under the hot lamps. I ordered the salmon Benedict, when the plate was in front of me I wanted to gag. Looked like salmon you get out of a bag at aldi (no hate, I shop there!) on top of ready made quinoa that you buy precooked at the grocery store and heat up for a quick lunch, with "poached" eggs on top with a drizzle of some pink sauce. It looked horrible, it tasted even worse. Quinoa tasted just like it looked, out of a pouch. The salmon had to have been dragged through the same salt lick as the appetizer and when the egg was pierced not even a dribble of yolk. The sauce had to have been a scant 1/4 tsp of spicy Mayo (supposed to be hollandaise). To make matters worse it was all just barely lukewarm. Y'all I couldn't eat it, it was so repulsive. I wanted to vomit. And I had no water to try and wash it down. Hubby order chicken and biscuits, they were so dry I wanted to cough just looking at them. He couldn't even choke his down. He said disgusting. My MIL ordered a medium filet (I know, I know) for her salad and it came out well done. The salad was so soggy , I can just imagine it dying under those lamps. The dressing on her salad was eatable so she graciously shared with me. We were just so stunned that a dining experience could be so bad. Horribly slow and inattentive service, absolutely inedible, thoughtless food. I believe we tried to leave as fast as we could because my mother in law was about to lose it. We packed up all the crap, I just wanted this experience to be over, so fast. I wanted to also get out of there before my mil went to talk to the manager(they have been there 4 times before and had A great experience, I can't believe that) She spoke with the acting manager, turns out our server was the bartender also, which explains the slow pacing of things and the general manager was not there. The absolute worst dining experience of my life. Ever. And I love to eat and I couldn't find one saving grace for this place. With what we experienced today this place will absolutely shut down. Do NOT waste your time or money here. ETA: the acting manager did offer a refund, but my mil did not take it and said she just wanted to talk to the GM. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I went here a few months ago and got food poisoning. I decided to give it another try and again was very disappointed. The sushi rice wasn't cooked and they only gave me 6 piece instead of 7and the manager said I had eaten 3 which wasn't accurate. The rice wasn't cooked and the sushi didn't taste fresh. We had asked the manager before ordering if the sushi was fresh and he said yes. When I didn't continue to eat the sushi he asked if everything was ok. I said that it wasn't fresh and he argued with me that it was. I was in the food industry for 10 years and Trent Daniels was lacking being professional. He argued with me and accused me of eating more than I did. He didn't seem to care how the customer experience was. His approach with us made the whole experience horrible. I hardly write reviews but felt people should be aware of the quality of food which is lacking and the customer service. We will not be returning to the Rutledge and will definitely be sharing this experience with our friends read more

I went this past weekend with some friends. We made a reservation because it was a Saturday night, and we heard that it was good so thought it may be busy. When we walked in, it immediately felt like they just realized they made a mistake. It appeared that one of the "hostesses" gave away our table of 5 to a walk-in. Took a while for them to seat us, so Not a great start. I ordered 1 cocktail, and a salad as we had a late lunch so I wasn't super hungry. The music got progressively louder over the course of our meal, for no real discernible reason. It was not overly crowded, bar was not full and there wasn't a line. Mind you, this was a little before 7p, so the lack of patrons and the unnecessarily loud music was baffling. And, annoying club-y music at that. Looking at the menu, the prices preclude your average 20-something that this music would likely appeal to. Cocktail and food were fine, not bad or disappointing, but certainly nothing spectacular. What Was Spectacular was what They thought their extra dirty Belvidere vodka martini was worth...wait for it...24.00.!! WTF My entre salad was 26.00. Also a little overpriced, but a meal. And, Trust me when I say that this was in No way a 24.00 martini. I have had a 24.00 martini and it was miles above this one. This was "average" at best, even with the blue cheese olives. This was just an overall very lacking experience, so unless I am out with a group that Really, Really wants to go back, I do not see ever returning to this establishment. My mistake for giving the restaurant another chance. I ordered the filet n lobster Mac n Cheese-the filet was a bad piece of meat and covered in a typical brown gravy. A goo filet doesn't need sauce or gravy. The lobster Mac n Cheese was missing more than lobster. I could not even eat my meal. My husband ordered the salmon and it was under cooked and he sent it back and they cooked it more. Nobody even came to apologize. We have not been back to this place in quite a while. We tried it originally and we're a little disappointed in the food quality for the price. Made a reservation for Mother's Day and had to cancel. We have been coming to The Rutledge since it opened. We have always been extremely happy with the service, food and atmosphere. This is a fun place with folks happy to be there. Some of the negative reviews I have seen just don't jive with what we have experienced in probably 30-50 visits over the past two years, I think some folks just like to complain on here. We had a wonderful Christmas Eve dinner. The service was wonderful and all the food met our expectations. We had the corn bread and shrimp egg rolls for appetizers - both delicious. I went with some girlfriends yesterday and it was amazing. Not only was the place gorgeous and sleek but the staff was so friendly the minute we walked in the door. From the moment we sat down, we were instantly greeted by not only our waitress but one of the owners who recommended some of his favorites, which is always helpful when trying out a new place. There is nothing on the menu for vegans. Their veggie burger tastes like cardboard. I can't remember the last time I had to force myself to not spit out actual food that I ordered. Let me start by saying, I came in with very high expectations since one of the AVPs that I work with had previously picked this place and he's a foodie so in my own head, this was going to be a phenomenal pick. Couple things to point out: - It was a Sunday evening at 730pm, party of 4 - One of the beers we ordered was no long available - The medium rare prime rib ordered came out overcooked (brown throughout) - they corrected this somewhat but the second prime rib could have still cooked for less. Horseradish for the meal would have been a nice offering instead of having to ask - The margarita I ordered was snagged away before I finished it - The creme brûlée we ordered was no longer available -Some items on the plates were cold and some were scalding hot, the food temperatures did not seem very regulated to complement each other The waitress was very sweet and nice and apologized for all the scenarios, I don't think it was her fault. The place felt upscale however it lacked a sense of vested interest in service from management and to be honest, the ambiance felt pretty cold. Nothing about it made me want to go back. We also chose this recommendation after we crosschecked the food to dollar value online by viewing other reviews and photographs and I will say, I was a tad disappointed. We had made the reservation via Open Table and had noted that it was a birthday. This info never made it from the hostess to the waitress. Trust me, we were not seeking a parade of waiters or instruments, but we did possibly think a minor dessert gesture recognizing the birthday girl would have been a nice touch for a dinner that cost $300 with the tip. Those are the minor details in the food industry that set the best apart from the mediocre 80%. Will I return? No. Would I recommend it? Give it a shot, maybe your experience will be better than ours. read more

We went newyears eve and we got sat right away! Our server was great! Very attentive and made sure everything was right for us! Really excited to have a solid go-to in the area. There's other restaurants that are serviceable but not nearly as good. We had a bit of sticker shock looking at the prices on the menu, but they are quite understandable when you see the portion sizes. The lobster roll starter is really good and full of delicious lobster meat. It's plenty big enough to have as an entree. We tried the pressed sushi which was actually very clean and fresh tasting. The only knock on it is that it's very large and not bite size like most sushi. We finished our meal by splitting the French dip. This is a good sandwich. Not the typical dip, this utilized Brie cheese to give it even more richness. The au jus was the right amount of salty beefiness and the bread holds up really well to dipping without being overly crusty. We did have 2 drinks with dinner as well and they also didn't disappoint. They were good with a taste of alcohol so you didn't forget you were actually enjoying adult beverages. We have nothing bad to say about it entire experience and we'll definitely be back! read more

Dear Rutledge, I live in cool springs and want you to do good. This is why I give 5 stars We need more independent restaurants in the area. I was impressed with the renovation and overall atmosphere. It looks nice with high end finishes. There were two disappointments I had with our dining experience. 1. We sat at the bar and had two drinks prior to dinner. I had a Tito's soda and my wife had a grey goose martini. When I got the bill, it was $39. At first I thought either my wife or I had 2 drinks due to the price. Then I realized that you are charging $18 for a martini and $13 for a Tito's and soda. That is crazy! That's the most I've ever paid for 2 drinks outside of New York or Vegas. I'm not confident you will make it in this area charging those prices. The martini cost more than the pasta entree I had for dinner... 2. During dinner, the music being played felt like I was at a Calvin Harris concert. It was loud and did not match the atmosphere. You are in Cool Springs, not virago or Las Vegas. Looking around, your clientele was business or middle aged couples. No reason to be playing Sweet Lovin' or other club music at a high volume. Fix your drink pricing and understand who comes into your restaurant and I think you will succeed. read more

This is a newer upscale restaurant that has a good variety of apps and entree's. We had the French Dip which was one of the best I've ever had, tender shaved prime rib, choice of sauces and a pile only fries. Others had the chicken which was great as well. This rest aurant has been on our "gotta try" list for a while now and we finally had dinner there. We will never go back again. I had just gotten off work and was tired and hungry and hubby suggested we go to our favorite steakhouse. The wait there was an hour and a half. So we went to another place we like to eat at and their wait was over an hour. So looking through Yelp I saw the Rutledge and gave them a call. They had no wait so off we went to give it a try. We walked right in and nearly walked right out. The noise level was unbelievable. Everything in the place is hard surfaces and the sound - even though the place was barely half full - was deafening. But this was our third restaurant of the night and by that time we were so hungry we decided to stay. Our server was very pushy and when we told him we needed a minute he huffed off. We were served glasses of water - no ice. When I asked for a glass of ice he gave me a look. The menu left a lot to be desired and the prices were over the top for what you got. $20 for spaghetti and meatballs? $18 for a burger and fries. And my husband decided to get a glass of wine. Drinks were also off the chart expensive. The server came back and told him that they did not have the wine he requested - $12 a glass - and did he have another choice? He pointed to another wine that was $14 a glass. Hubs got the steak rolls which the server and the menu described as shaved prime rib. The meat was so tough and full of gristle. At one point he pulled out a 6-inch string of meat and gristle that was disgusting. No way this was prime rib. I ordered the fish tacos. The two skinny strips of fish were dry and grilled to death were on a bed of dead coleslaw. The chimichurri sauce was obviously not fresh - it was nearly black - had way too much mint. The one - and there was only one - bright spot in the whole experience was the seasoned fries. We both filled up on these since our meal was inedible. All of this sounds bad, and it was, but the real kicker came when the bill arrived. The total was nearly $80!!!!! I knew there must be some kind of mistake. I looked at the ticket and the server had charged us $32 FOR A GLASS OF WINE!!!!! UNBELIEVABLE!!!. When my husband's original choice of wine was not available the server brought him a $32 GLASS OF WINE!!????? That glass of wine was more than the cost of the food. I was livid and ready to speak to the manager but hubs was just ready to get out of there. He hates it when I cause a fuss at a restaurant - full disclosure - I'm a chef and very critical of restaurant food but only occasionally will I make a complaint. So we paid the bill and left. A truly horrible experience on so many levels. Stay away from this rip-off restaurant. Franklin has so many great places to eat. This one is not one of them and needs to be out of business soon. read more
