Being we are both in the auto industry, I understand the challenges that this industry currently had, from part shortage and quality tech. I did let him know his price was still more than the dealer and the delay quoted by his shop. He did tell me if he knew it was just an alternator, which is an esay repair if the part is available he could have done it the next day, as the Acura dealer. This is just a good example of istening and understanding the problem. We were on a 2 month travel trailer trip, a long way from home, when our truck refused to start. The battery was good but the truck would not crank. We contacted Rustic Wrench and talked to Robert. He said they were already booked one week out, but that if we could get the truck to him, he would try to work it in the schedule. Amazingly, the next morning, the truck started and we were able to drive it in rather than tow it. They were able to fit it in the schedule within the next 2 days, and we left with a new starter installed on the truck. I was visiting family in Apache Junction in December, and got an oil change here, for my VW JETTA TDI. I chose The Rustic Wrench because I had read they work on Volkswagens, and just thought they would be a good resource for the future. And it was a good thing I did, and had found them. 2 days before I was supposed to drive home (to Colorado), the on of my lower control arms BROKE! It was New Years Eve day. When they opened again after the holiday, I called immediately. They were able to squeeze me in, without an appointment, and decided to have both lower control arms replaced. Even without an appointment, and being squeezed in between their other appointments, I had my car back in 2 days! I cannot recommend The Rustic Wrench enough! And the cost was very "reasonable and fair" according to my mechanic friends back home. Everyone there was so wonderful, and understanding of my situation, and got my car up and running SO quickly. Recently I took my car into a local auto repair shop to see what was causing a noise on my car. It was a wheel bearing and would be $717 to fix. I didn't want to spend that much so I thought I should get a 2nd quote from another place. I went to yelp to see who had good reviews and The Rustic Wrench showed up. I called them and talked to Tucker. I told him the problem I was having and that another shop had looked it. I said could he give me a best and worst case scenario on cost. I told him $717 ( I know, my mistake ). He said worst case would $500-$550. I asked him if I could bring it in at 8am on Thursday. ( 2 days later ). He said sure. I told him I needed it back by noon which he said shouldn't be a problem. Hindsight, Tucker sounded way too agreeable to everything I wanted ( kind of sounded like a car salesman ). Any way I showed up Thursday at 8 am. When I said I had an 8 am appointment he could not find it on his computer. He asked who I talked to and I said Tucker ( who was sitting next to the guy I was talking to ). He asked Tucker about it and he said " Oh yeah, I talked to him on the phone. I don't know the costs of parts are but I gave him a price around $500" I left my car there and they said they would call me when they had an exact cost of repair. I waited until 11 am to call them to see what is going on with the car. Tucker answered the phone and said he would check. The other guy got on the phone and said they are waiting on a lift. I told him I had an 8 am appointment and specifically said I needed it back by noon. He apologized and said he would see what they could do to speed it up. He called me back and said it would be $707 and the would discount it to $667 because I was upset. I ended up letting them fix it and it was done at 2:30 pm. A plus was they did fix the problem. A huge negative is they have a car salesman that answers the phone and says anything you want to hear to get you in the door. Two mistakes I made. 1) Don't tell them the price quote from someone else. 2) If Tucker answers the phone ask to speak to someone else. Lesson learned. read more

I have to be honest with you. I had no idea my little city had another auto repair place so close by. Boy was I pleasantly surprised! I walked into such a clean, friendly, modern shop. I was greeted promptly by Dawn who was just the sweetest office manager. They promptly got my truck into a stall and within twenty minutes told me what they thought was wrong and what they thought the best option would be. I left the truck overnight and was happy to find I was called early the next day and given an expected time I could prick up my vehicle. They called a little early to let me know that my truck was finished and they were able to get my vehicle warranty to completely cover my service. I can't say enough good things about this place. They've made a loyal customer of me. I definitely will be going for anything I need for my vehicles and I would feel comfortable recommending them to my family and friends. Recently I had a blowout on the freeway and true to their word they replaced my tire and I just paid for the new roadside coverage on the new tire. I made an early appointment at RW to get a full brake job (pads, rotors, and fluid flush) on my wife's VW EOS and I left the car for the day. No shuttle service or loner vehicles available so I caught an Uber ride home (add $15). And eventhough I had a 9:00 am appointment It took them all day to get it in the shop, find the parts and get it done, and I picked it up right after closing time (I called them). The best I can tell they did a good job (the brakes work), but it was, in my opinion, pretty expensive ($1,050). I did some pricing on upgraded pads and rotors (Rockauto, Autozone, NAPA) and they obviously mark the parts up (from retail) quite a bit. However, the fluid flush was quite reasonable. In the end it worked out okay and they did an adequate job of sorting the brakes ( no diagnostic work required). The office person I dealt with was polite and accommodating, and the service good, but not exceptional. All in all, they did the work I asked for in a full day for a little more $ than I expected. Not bad, I suppose, in this day of new compact cars that cost $40k - hope this one keeps going and going and going! read more

I took my Jeep Patriot in for service a week and a half before Thanksgiving. I chose this shop because they had great reviews. Everyone I spoke to there seemed knowlegable and nice. They recomended various services and repairs which I agreed to and one of the repairs was to put in a new drive belt and tensioner/pullies. After the completed work the car ran fine until I took it on a 650 trip into the mountains in northern New Mexico for Thanksgiving which is in a remote area. Two days before Thanksgiving I was driving on a remote highway and all the dash lights started going on and I lost power steering and then the car completely shut down. Luckily I was able to get it off to the side of the highway. Once I opened the hood I noticed that the brand new drive belt had come completely off. I was stranded for over five hours on the side of the remote highway before I was able to get it towed and get a ride to where I was staying. It goes without saying that at that point I was not very happy or satisfied with the work done at this shop! read more

This place is great but maybe not so much on older vehicles and they for sure do not want to take ownership of a mistake. Went for a bent hose which they replaced and also replaced the coolant cap. By the time I got home coolant was all over the engine and driveway, so in less then 10 minutes I knew there was a problem. They obviously never tested or checked their work. Went back and they replaced the whole system, which they said happens with old cars when you touch one thing you break another - hmmm, okay.... anyways, got it all done. Sold vehicle the following week and within the first week the new owner called me that the system failed, so I wasted good money on something they did not fix nor replaced correctly. This review is long over due as this has been some time ago but just a shame that this happened the way it did and that the owners did not take any responsibility for a sloppy job. read more

These guys were the best priced shop I could find for a big job. I was worried because the name of the shop makes it seem like it specializes in old American classic cars. But when I got there, there was Audi, Mercedes, and Japanese cars. The shop was big, clean, professional equipment, and you can see all the cars being worked on from the lobby. So these guys were not hiding anything. I was feeling better about leaving my BMW. They finished it same day and the job was perfect. My car is 21 years old with 453.5k miles on it. So taking it apart can easily break something else, but the mechanic did a great job. Car runs great and he fixed the issue. I've been driving my car for almost 2 weeks and still no issues. These guys are AWESOME. Not only are they friendly and helpful, they are honest and transparent. They did a full free inspection on my old camper van, explained everything in details and gave me fair estimates. They did the work necessary on my transmission and when I had more issues with it due to my car being old and difficult -- they fixed it and made sure it was safe to drive. They fit me in their schedule fast and the whole staff was super sweet and playful to my little puppy who stayed in the waiting room with me for hours. These folks are awesome!! I called on a Thursday to see if I could get an appt to have my truck AC repaired. I needed to tow horses to Flagstaff that weekend and really wanted my AC working. Although they understandably were booked till the following week, the lady said if I could drop it off Friday, they would try to at least look at it to see if it was something simple. I got a call Friday mid day saying one of their techs were able to determine it had lost pressure due to a blown line. They were able to replace the line that day and recharge for a very reasonable price!!! The folks there are super nice and do great work, I will take everything there now. The door of trust never opened with these people. I requested a quote for some repairs and I got it fast but the parts were abnormally high and they didn't list a brand and part number for any of the parts (for example, it said spark plugs - $215 and that was it). In back and forth emails I asked them several times to give me the brand and part number of the parts and they REFUSED - each time they gave a response that would not answer the question, such as "it's from our vendor." They did offer to tell me over the phone but I explained that was not good enough, it needs to be in writing on the quote and or at least in an email - again they REFUSED. I cannot comment on their quality of work because again the door of trust never opened for me to walk through and allow them to work on my car but I can say that their quality of honesty and transparency is in the toilet. It's obvious that they heavily mark up the price of parts and maybe most of their customers don't question it. Honesty goes a long way with me and lack of it is a deal breaker and this place failed miserably in that category. read more

I've been meaning to get a review written for the rustic wrench but time slipped by. Just before the Covid lockdown, we had taken our daughter's 02 Buick LeSabre for some repairs. It was leaking fluid. I bought it for my daughter a year prior. She's 15, and it was a perfect car for her age - ugly, not real fast, but safe. Anyway Beggars can't be choosers. But that's not why I'm writing this review. We took it in, they did a diagnostic, and the thing was a boat anchor. Too many leaks and it it would have cost too much to fix. I pulled out my credit card and fully expected to be charged for their time, which would've been no problem to me. It's a business and they have to stay alive. They did not charge me, and I'm sure they spent at least an hour on the vehicle. Talk about pleasantly surprised. Maybe they felt sorry for us because they knew I had to get rid of the vehicle and no one would probably Buy it! Whatever the reason, they were very professional the facility is very clean, and I was impressed with their service. We recently purchased a little Nissan versa, and I plan on bringing it to rustic wrench when it needs service. The only negative and it's really not a negative because when you find a mechanic that you can trust, you'll drive quite a ways, but it's a little bit off the beaten path. I did not give five stars, because I've used them only once and wanted to leave a little room for the next review. Also, they are veteran owned and run, I believe. read more
