Thursday night is 1/2 price burger night. Their Smash burger was excellent. Excellent happy hour specials.

The Rustic Spoon is a must visit! The food is absolutely delicious. The chicken and waffle oh my goodness delicious perfectly crispy on the outside, just how I like my waffle. The chicken is a boneless thigh tender and juicy. My sister said the seafood omelette was full of good seafood very refreshing and flavorful. Also, while I didn't order the potatoes but I tried them from another plate at the table and oh my goodness I love good potatoes. The atmosphere was quiet and spacious, making it a great place to enjoy a relaxing meal. The service was exceptional, friendly, attentive, and welcoming from start to finish. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for great food and great service. I can't wait to return!

I decided to give Rustic Spoon another try after not being impressed with my Cuban Sandwich in my first visit. Both visits the service was great! The staff were inviting and friendly. It was a cold day so we asked to be near a heater vent and they offered for us to sit near the fire place. Now let's get to what this review is really about THE STUFFED FRENCH TOAST! It had a nice presentation and was absolutely delicious! It was more of a desert so I got Brussels sprouts to balance it out . Both entrees could have feed 3 ppl.

I came to celebrate my sister's birthday, but to her surprise, I brought our other sisters and our mom along with us! The staff was in on it and Anthony did such a great job playing along. My sister was so surprised. They seated us at the best table in the house on the loft with a view. We caught up over some delicious food. We didn't get any boozy drinks because we just got off the plane, but the Bloody Mary looked good. A woman at another table had a flight (maybe wine) that looked yummy, too! I ordered the scotch egg. We all shared our dishes which included a seafood omlet, mushroom toast, & crab cake bites.

Came in on a Saturday at 11am. The wait was about 60-90min for a table inside so we decided to sit outside which had no wait. We were a party of 4. The waitress was very nice and friendly. I ordered the mushroom toast as my entree and it was tasty! They didn't skimp out on the mushrooms or toppings. My friends ordered the mushroom omelette, fried tomatoes and steak and eggs - they both enjoyed and finished their plates! I really liked the biscuit, good flavor and a bit salty but it was fine. The coffee was just ok, nothing special. Fairly affordable meal and would definitely come back to try their other items.

If this isn't on one of your favorite brunch spots in the Hampton Roads, you're doing brunch wrong. If you can, I recommend making a reservation as they can get pretty busy quickly during brunch. Parking is fairly easy to secure in the parking lot out front. Today I wanted to deviate from my normal carnitas hash and I ordered the special of the day, carne asada hash that was loaded with meat and fresh jalapeños and crumbled cheese. So fresh and flavorful with every bite. Another sweet treat from the specials, we tried their cinnamon roll with extra additions of candied walnuts and caramel rum butter. My boyfriend got his usual shrimp and grits--absolutely to die for with the savory sauce and plentiful amount of shrimp and sausage. The mimosa flight is always our go to pick for drinks. Our server was attentive and we always enjoy a lovely, filling brunch from the Rustic Spoon in their indoor dining area. Rating: 5/5

This restaurant can get pretty busy on the weekend so I would reccomend making a reservation unless you don't mind sitting at the bar. With bar seating it only took 15 minutes to get seated. We had the funnel cake cinnamon roll, Carne Asada Hash, Crab Cake burger, and biscuits. In short, GET THE FUNNEL CAKE CINNAMON ROLL. The funnel cake cinnamon roll was amazing. I've never tasted any cinnamon roll that topped it. 9.5/10 for me. Perfect amount of icing but not overbearing like Cinnabon. Nize drizzle of chocolate with a crunchy and flavorful exterior, and a fluffy inside with lots of sweet cinnamon spread. I can't really describe how good it was, it was just good so you should get it. The biscuits are unique; never tasted an biscuit like them but they are not my favorite. I tasted a decent amount of cornmeal or something similar, the crust is crunchy and slightly buttered but the inside is very fluffy. It's not as savory or buttery as other biscuits I had. The more I ate them though, the more they grew on me. The butter really helped to bring the flavors of the biscuits out. I thought the burger itself was pretty standard. Well cooked, but nothing out of the ordinary. Fries were crunchy and had good texture. The crab cake though was a bit salty on the burger and it got more salty the more we ate it. It did help to make up for the basic flavors inside the patty though. The carne asada hash was good. Lots of ingredients that helped to brighten the dish and differentiate it from normal breakfast hash. I liked the addition of tomatoes since I love eating veggies with all of my dishes. Our server at the bar was super attentive and checked up on us pretty often. Very fun and lighthearted as well which helped to make the experience better. Atmosphere is nice and tidy, and although it was busy it felt somewhat cozy. I would definitely come back here again, especially for that cinnamon roll.

Always on the lookout to try a new brunch spot. Ran into this gem tucked away. Recommend reservations during prime brunch time. Sat upstairs but it wasn't too busy for breakfast time. I am always looking out for my favorite breakfast dish .... Biscuits and gravy. This may be the winner for Virginia Beach. It's all about the gravy to me not so much the biscuit. My palate was cheering as I ate this and that was after I started with fried green tomatoes also a breakfast go-to if it's on the menu. My friend opted for the French toast and it was a meal and dessert in one! Basically a thick slab of cinnamon bread fully loaded. Very rich and sweet. The waitress was very nice but nothing special about the service. Food speaks for itself! Will return!

Mom & I finally made it to the Rustic Spoon. They opened as the pandemic hit, so I'm glad they were able to weather that storm.

The Rustic Spoon is an interesting spot, considering they opened just as the shutdown began. I could only imagine how difficult it was to operate during that time and with those conditions, but TRS obviously endured, and even thrived, thanks to their wonderful food and excellent customer service. When they opened in 2020, Spoon was (I believe) take-out only (for obvious reasons). That means I didn't take a shot at them until 2021 when I went with my mom. Spoon specializes in breakfast/brunch, but they are open for dinner on select nights (and provide a creative and interesting dinner menu). By the time of our inaugural visit (7/11/21), I already knew about their famous Scotch Egg and even saw a news segment focused on them on local WVEC 13. I was excited to try out the scotch egg, among other items. Spoon occupies the space that used to be Lubo Wine Tasting Room. Lubo was a fun spot that offered an excellent Black & Blue Nachos dish (and other tasty food). Spoon offers just as many delicious dishes, and they've gained enough popularity to open a second location in the Red Mill section of Virginia Beach. The original location is quaint and cozy. There is outside seating available - excellent for perfect weather days. They have a second floor, which is used daily but also doubles as a private event room. The facility is clean, organized and is quite welcoming, even when it's busy. I believe we had to wait about 10-20 minutes on 7/11/21 before we were seated. Once we were given a table, our server (Angie) was all smiles and helped us at every opportunity. I noticed Angie was serving tables all over the place (including the outdoor patio), so I came away impressed as she was rockin' things out. Based on service alone (this includes all subsequent visits after 7/11/21), I'd recommend Spoon to anyone. So, with excellent service being provided within an organized and clean facility, it's time to focus on the food. And, let me tell you, their food is excellent. My mom and I ordered the following items: Scotch Egg: Edwards sausage, breadcrumbs, smoked paprika, sauce vert Carnitas Benedict Shrimp & Grit Cake: tomato, roasted red peppers, caramelized onions, Edwards sausage, griddled grit cake Mom had the shrimp & grit cake and loved it. Her only issue was that it was too much food (as if that's a setback, haha) and couldn't eat it all. I had the carnitas benedict and it, too, was a lot of food. The carnitas were tender and flavorful and went very well with the eggs benedict. I dug this dish a lot. We split the scotch egg and it was tremendous. There aren't many businesses which offer a scotch egg (the only other place I know of that offered scotch egg was Public House in Ghent, but they phased that out, along with many other items which initially set it apart from other local spots), so when it's done right, it has to be applauded. Spoon makes an incredible scotch egg - that item alone is worth a visit. With this being a successful first visit, we've returned numerous times since. It's crummy it's taken me this long to write a review, but Spoon obviously hasn't been hurting for one from me. Speaking of future visits, here is a quick rundown of some items we've ordered since... Steak and Eggs (excellent) The Rustic Burger (mom dug it) Crabcake Bites (excellent, but they could be larger) Corn Chowder (mom dug it) Filet Mignon Benedict (hell yeah, you know I dug it) Loaded Omelet: Edwards sausage, maple pepper bacon, Edwards country ham, roasted red peppers, caramelized onions (fantastic) Bay Burger: Hereford beef patty, crab cake, lettuce, pickled green tomato, Baja sauce, brioche bun (mom really dug it) Smoked Short Rib Risotto: mushrooms, red onions, parmesan, smoked short rib, au jus, green onions, crostini (this may be my favorite TRS dish) Chicken & Rice Soup (I destroyed my bowl) Rustic Meatloaf: Hereford beef, Edwards sausage, garlic mashers, mushroom gravy, seasonal veggies (mom loves a good meatloaf, and she loved this one) The Rustic Spoon is one of my darkhorse favorite restaurants. They change up their menu enough to keep things interesting, but are also consistent with their permanent items to keep their customers coming back. They are excellent for breakfast, brunch and dinner, and provide great service on top of that. I will return again and again as long as their open! Thank you, Rustic Spoon! JV

    Scotch eggs

Virginia Beach is our lunch stop on a North Carolina-to-Delaware drives, and we wanted to try something different this time. The Rustic Spoon offered Scotch eggs, and that was enough to reel us in. Even if they weren't on the menu, however, I would have been glad that we stopped here. The food, service, and atmosphere are all great. A two-story eatery, The Rustic Spoon keeps busy but handles volume well. It's lively without being cacophonous. Our server was friendly and willing to offer recommendations, which were needed given how many glorious-looking options the menu offered. In addition to the aforementioned Scotch eggs, there were benedicts and hashes and pancakes and waffles and burgers and sandwiches and salads galore. A Nashville hot chicken is usually a go-to for me, but here, it had plenty of competition. Ultimately, my wife and I ended up with the Scotch eggs, a carnitas omelet, and a shrimp & grit cake. The eggs were breaded nicely and featured a tasty sauce. Both entrees came in sizeable portions and looked jaw-droppingly good. Fortunately, the appeal did not prove illusory. Every place has its own take on shrimp & grits, and the Rustic Spoon's includes local sausage, tomato, and roasted red peppers. The absence of tons of cheese kept it from feeling too heavy, the shrimp were nicely cooked, and the firmness of the grit cake offered a welcome contrast to the sauce that surrounded it. The hearty carnitas scored points for tender, flavorful pork and crispy potatoes. Prices were moderate (entrees in the teens), but the food was worth every penny. As much as we like to try new places when traveling, the Rustic Spoon may have to be a repeat offender. It does too much too well to be a one-and-done.

The last time I set foot inside their Pleasure House Rd location was at least 10 years ago. I celebrated my birthday there as my friends were kind enough to take me out. It was a Sunday morning and I sought out a place that offered brunch. I noticed 1608 was open and decided to head over, especially since I haven't visited them in ages. When I walked in, I noticed their dining room is dimly lit - much darker than I remember. I was greeted immediately by a kind hostess and she proceeded to sit me at a nearby table and provided me with menus (one food, one alcohol). I took my time looking over the food menu, and in the meantime I ordered a pint of Center of the Universe's Bald Irishman and a bottle of Boylan's Black Cherry soda (they do not have a soda fountain). What made this visit memorable was that 1608's bartender, Hunter, was an old acquaintance from back in my restaurant days. He spotted me and came over to say hi. After my meal, I continued to catch up with him at the bar. His presence made a pleasant experience even more fantastic. I thought I was hungry, so I ordered 2 dishes - Smoked Ham Fried Rice and the Breakfast Burrito. According to Hunter, every item is made fresh in house. After biting into each, you could tell that's true. Both the fried rice and burrito were delicious and boasted lots of flavor. Although I prefer my fried rice a bit simpler (if you give me just garlic fried rice, I am SET), 1608's fried rice (veggies, garlic, soy, basmati rice, 2 runny eggs, smoked ham) had a lot going on, which made for a flavorful dish. I liked the rice and the burrito (Korean style fried chicken breast, scrambled eggs, cilantro lime, cheddar, pico de gallo) a lot. I didn't finish either because it was a lot of food (I really thought I was hungry, haha). But these leftovers turned into a fantastic dinner later on. 1608 looked clean and organized, although I thought it was a little too dark inside, at least for brunch service. That's not a dealbreaker since everything from the food to the service was as excellent as I remember. I hope to return soon with my mom. Regardless, I'll find my way back eventually. Thank you, 1608 Crafthouse! And great seeing you again, Hunter! JV

The both of us, well three of us if you count the dog, enjoyed our meals. I went with the doggy-style version of the Chicken n Waffles. This take on the classic dish included: a bacon-infused waffle, fried chicken thigh, sausage gravy, candied bacon, and bourbon maple syrup. Overall, I enjoyed the dish with the small exceptions that the batter made the waffle really heavy for my personal tastes. I'm more of a fan of light, fluffy waffles. Unfortunately, I did not know this at the time, but the kitchen puts the syrup on the waffle for you. Personally, I like to add my own syrup because I do not like too much syrup on my waffles (and pancakes). However, those two minor issues did not take away from the dish. Also, the other aspects of the dish made up for those minor inconveniences. My partner ordered the Pongo, which was served with a fried chicken thigh, cheddar biscuit, scrambled egg, sausage gravy, house potatoes. If you are a fan of Bloody Marys, the restaurant has a selection of 4 or 5 interesting Bloody Marys. I went with the Porky's Revenge, which had bacon-infused vodka, Zing Zang Bloody Mary mix and a bacon-dusted rim. Both of us were quite pleased with our selections. Also, come here hungry because the serving sizes are quite large. Because of the large serving sizes, I thought the prices were relatively fair compared to other places the area. Actually, I would change "fair" to "generous". Both of our dishes were about 17 bucks with the 4ish dollar 'doggy style' add on. Generally speaking, our waitress was really on the ball. Although we were sitting outside, she frequently checked in us and was very professional while being funny. Hopefully, we can make another stop here during our next Va. Beach vacation adventure.

While we did have a few bumps during our dining experience last night overall far as the ambience the service and the decor hands down Top Notch so a five stars it is! We were meeting others here for dinner last night so it was a party of six and we sat in the back area of the restaurant beautiful from front to end. Our waitress Chloe was amazing super helpful when asked for suggestions super patient as well as attentive throughout the night love her. The manager Kelly was super nice as well. My husband ordered the strip and fries and he loved it everything was cooked to Perfection for him. He ordered a Crown Royal and Sprite but it first came out as Crown Royal and Coke but our waitress quickly apologized and turn that back around and my husband had the Crown and Sprite while he wasn't a fan even though this is just one spirit with the mixer he said it wasn't good enough for another. He just stuck with his water for the rest of the night. Now on to me we started out with the Rockfish bites and calamari not a fan of calamari so I'll pass on that but it seemed to be a hit at the table I did finish up a few bites and they were very very good they also brought out complimentary bread I believe one was just a Italian and the other one was a honey oat or just Oat I had that with the butter as well as the olive oil very good I can eat the bread over and over again Lord forgive me nevertheless on to the drinks... I had the lavender drop martini and a margarita both 10 out of 10 if you like sweet go for the lavender drop if you like something strong Margarita it is and this is the first time I've ordered a margarita and it came out in a tall glass and I was a fan of it so kudos to JG for that... On to my meal I ordered the beef tenderloin and asked for a crabcake to be added and I chose the fresh green beans as my side. My meal came out first I could already tell the beef tenderloin was not cooked to my desire of medium well from what I know now someone else at the table had ordered a medium steak so I may have gotten her plate but I let Chloe know and Chloe was able to take that back and get it fixed it came back out still not to my liking however I did begin eating the crab cake and the green beans and they were divine... The third attempt Kelly the manager brought out my tenderloin and it was good at that point it was so good I couldn't stop eating so like I said even though with some bumps in the road throughout our dining experience last night still worthy of five stars super excited to return... I'm interested in trying the happy hour with the different martinis as well as small plates that are at a good price. This place looked like it specialized in bánh mì, so we figured we'd give it a shot. The shop itself is really cute, and they also have boba drinks, which pulled me in because I love boba. I ordered a Thai milk tea along with our sandwiches. That's kind of where things went downhill. The tea tasted really artificial...like, not something I've had before, and the color was off too. It was also super sweet. My boyfriend tried it and said the same thing. For food, we split two sandwiches: he got the marinated pork and I got the roasted pork. The roasted pork was honestly disappointing--almost all fat. I get that pork has some fat, but this was excessive. Most pieces were barely meat, and the texture was just not good. I ended up picking around it just to eat something. The marinated pork was actually pretty solid. But since the other sandwich was such a miss, we basically ended up eating a marinated pork and what felt like a veggie sandwich. Overall, I think we'll keep looking for other spots when we're in the mood for bánh mì.

Meh, despite the good food and the convenient location (this Lendy's is much closer to me than…read moretheir General Booth location), the service - particularly the understaffing, is a problem. With Misako closed until mid-October (the owners are on a much-deserved vacation), this was an excellent opportunity to try out this Lendy's. Upon arrival, they were setting up for karaoke night (Tuesdays) and there were a few regulars already seated at the bar. This Lendy's appeared bigger than Anchor Allie's that was previously here. It's more spacious - full of games, TV's and the like. I decided to sit at the bar where I was greeted by their bartender, Courtney. Courtney was nice enough, but she was battling a neck injury which, I later learned, was the result of her, "falling down the stairs." That sucks, and she toughed it out simply by showing up for work. I remained patient throughout, but I was left to wonder what caused her to fall down the stairs. Anyways, Courtney took my drink order - Coke and a bottle of Bud Light. I received the Coke almost immediately, but after a few minutes she remembered the beer. She apologized, but it was all good since I was still looking at the menu (the long wait for the beer did factor into me not ordering another round, though). I eventually ordered a dozen wings and potato skins, and proceeded to relax and wait. In the meantime, that's when I noticed Courtney was the only person working the FOH, while the kitchen had one dude doing all the cooking (he was also the food runner). The food took a little time, but actually came out sooner than I anticipated. I chose garlic parm wings, and they were just as good as the wings I've had at the original Lendy's. The potato skins were also excellent, although the cheese could've been melted more. Regardless, the food remained the high point of my visit. I didn't finish either item, so I asked for a togo box and my tab at the same time. This is where my visit became an extended stay as Courtney continued to place me at the back of the line. Courtney took about five minutes to give me a togo box. She gave it to me without my tab, which meant I had to wait again for her to get that to me. In the meantime, she had to knock out orders for the other customers, then had to turn around and take an order for a big party who sat down behind me. The wait was understandable, but I did become antsy. After all that, Courtney gave me my tab, and I plopped down my card immediately so she'd know I was ready to get out of there. The check and my card sat at the edge of the bar for a few minutes before she came back for it. When she did, she ran my card, then proceeded to pour drinks for customers while waiting for the machine to print my receipt. I began to take issue when she stopped to chat with the regulars at the bar as if they were the only people in the restaurant. That lasted a good 5 minutes, then she proceeded to ignore me when one patron from the big party walked up to the bar to ask her for something. At this point, I finally blurted out, "May I have my check? PLEASE?" She had a look on her face that said, "S**t, I forgot," while I gave back a stare similar to Ice Cube in Friday when he said, "Bye, Felicia." Courtney ripped the receipt from that machine, gave that & returned my card, then quickly muttered, "Thank you for your patience." I was ready to turn into a-hole Justin and then gtfo there, but I said nothing, signed my receipt and proceeded to get the hell out. The real issue with this Lendy's is understaffing. My visit was a combination of events - dinner service, happy hour, and karaoke night. How are you not staffed for that? I could tell Courtney knows what's up, but leaving her alone (with just one cook) while working injured obviously resulted in subpar service. At the same time, taking extended time to chat with regulars pissed me off because I was obviously not important enough to receive the same attention. Lendy's, your food is good. But running understaffed and providing inconsistent service is garbage. I want to evenly split my visits to this shopping center between Misako, Lendy's, and Mommy Mom, but omitting Lendy's as a viable option has become easier after this visit. I'll give Lendy's another shot down the line, but if there's only 1 FOH person again when that day comes, I'm walking out. JV

When you first walk in, they have plenty of seating and a chill vibe. The wait staff is friendly and very attentive. Their menu offers a wide range of options, from burgers and wings to wraps and salads. I went with a burger this time, and it was enjoyable; my friend loved the buffalo chicken wrap he got. The best food they have, though, is their wings, so I highly recommend giving them a try. They offer a variety of sauces as well. If you're looking for a spot to hang out with friends or watch football games and you find yourself on Shore Drive, check them out!
