Stopped in for a late lunch/brunch on a Saturday. The restaurant was fairly busy but we were seated immediately. Our server Nathaniel was great! He recommended several menu items to the table. The zesty bloody Marys were delish and the star of the show, thiccc with a nice kick! The food was good, not the greatest but tasty. The Rustic Spoon is kind of an underrated brunch spot in Hampton Roads in my opinion. This is in comparison to the Bay Local, Bee and the Biscuit, and Egg Bistro establishments. It's not as well known but I believe it should be! It's located past Bayside in an inconspicuous area. The parking is not too plentiful but it is still enough. We came for a large group celebrating a birthday. Luckily, there is an upstairs dining area which accommodates us nicely. It is a brunch rest but it also offers delicious lunch/dinner options. The interior is clean and well decorated. We ordered the Bay Burger and the Carnitas Hash with a kids pancake entree. The food came out with an acceptable wait due to a large party but it was not too long. The Bay Burger with the juicy Hereford beef and crab cake was an absolute hit! The Baja sauce complimented the crab cake perfectly and the burger was done medium rare. The carnitas hash was pretty good with the sauces and toppings but it was nothing special. We would definitely come back with a small group and try the rest of their menu! Awesome experience. read more

I've tried the Rustic Spoon in the Red Mills neighborhood but not the biggest fan of it, but finally got a chance to try the OG Rustic Spoon, and I'm not disappointed! I shall say this restaurant is PRETTY! They definitely gave us the Rustic atmosphere and decor style like their name. There is a second floor along the big space on the first floor, so the restaurant is definitely good for big parties. The staff are nice and friendly too. Although the food took some time to be served, it makes sense because of how pretty every dishes looks! I ordered the Shrimp & Grits with a side of biscuit. I've had this dish from the Red Mills location before but just couple bites from my bf(using my gf card lol), and it is as delicious as it was! Unlike the typical old bay shrimp & grits, the Rustic Spoon's Shrimp & Grits CAKE is very tomato-ish, filled with cut sausages, and the grits are stacked into a rectangle and seared so it stays stacked. The shrinps are fresh, HUGE and with simple but nice flavor. They tryely made this Shrimp & Grits to proves that you don't need to put old bay on seafood to make it taste/look good. My coworkers all LOVE their food. One of them was still talking about how delicious amd pretty her burger was when we headed back to the office. We all say we definitely have to come back and try the fluffy pancake when we're off, since the menu says it'll take 25 mins to make. read more

This was the first and last time I visited The Rustic Spoon. The name should be the Rusty Spoon. The food was disappointing to say the least. The chicken was dry a day the French toast was soggy. Also members in my party complained that the food was cold, the French Fries were hard and the mac & cheese was gummy. We left more food on the plate than we were able to eat. We could have gotten a better meal at Mc Donald's or Wendy's. Than there was hidden fee that showed up on the bill. I was over charged by almost $75. Not worth your time or effort. Never will I ever recommend or go to this place again. read more

Took my Mom out for breakfast. I hadn't been here for awhile and it was a good reminder about how good this place is. I wanted to order half the menu. What a wonderful experience for my girlfriend Sally her friend and myself. Our first time there for brunch was amazing From the moment we walked in everyone was nice and pleasant. After a few minutes at the bar our table was ready. Our server Cooper was awesome! Very knowledgeable and attentive. Never hovering or rushing us. Our food was delicious! Couldn't ask for better. Cooked as we asked, good portions and seasoned well. Also priced well. Even with full tables you could easily carry on your conversation. The decor was clean and pleasing. Even the bathroom was decorated well and very clean. I honestly couldn't ask for a better experience We will definitely be back to try out their dinner menu!!! read more

I'm not sure how I've missed this place but I'm so glad that I found it. When asked for suggestions for a great breakfast/ lunch place, a couple of friends suggested the Rustic spoon. I came to the Pleasure House location. I chose to sit out side. The patio had several tables with umbrellas. To start, I knew that I wanted an afternoon cocktail. My waitress Jordan, who was great but the way, suggested their Mimosas. To save time, I ordered two drinks. I ordered a $3 pineapple mimosa and a watermelon mojito. The mimosa was the perfect balance of champagne and juice. The watermelon mojito was served in a cute mason jar, which was so refreshing and delicious! There were so many options on the menu that I wanted to try, but I was short on time. I ordered the biscuit appetizer. it came with 2 biscuits, strawberry jam, and butter. 7 out of 10. But the star of the visit was my entree. I ordered a carnita hash! OH MY GOODNESS! Talk about a party for my taste buds. pork carnita, roasted corn, potatoes, onions, and cojita cheese, and I'm not sure what 6 it was amazing. The flavors were so bright and well balanced. The food here is amazing--everything was delicious and flavorful. This is a fantastic spot for brunch, whether you're dining solo, with a partner, family, or a group of friends. There are plenty of seating options both upstairs and downstairs. Parking can be a bit tricky when it's busy, as the restaurant shares a small lot with other businesses, but it's definitely worth a visit. I'll be adding this place to my list of favorite brunch spots. read more

Our experience at the Rustic Spoon in VA Beach VA was OUTSTANDING. The wait staff was second to none, the Stuffed French Toast was as beautiful as it was delicious. Definitely a one of a kind dish. The Chicken and Waffles was delicious as well, the chicken was seasoned to perfection and the waffle was toasted, crispy and tasty. The Manager even stopped by to check on us. Came here with colleagues for breakfast, was sat quickly. Ambiance is homey with cute signs all around. Full bar. Nice outdoor seating. Tried the orange creamsicle biscuits and they were to die for! The cream on top was not too orange and the biscuit was obviously mixed with something besides cornbread mix that made it more moist. Ordered the pancakes and was a bit disappointed. They were not fluffy and lacking in any real flavor. You had to put a lot of butter and syrup on it and the pancake kept soaking it up because they were so dense. Cute two level place with great seating and atmosphere. We went on Mother's Day so it was crazy from the word go. We started with their famous Scotch Egg which was PHENOMENAL!!!! Like we all could've just eaten those! Their Bloody Mary - OMG so delicious in flavor and I'm a HUGE fan of celery salt and a bacon slice - not many restaurants serve it that way. The filet was perfectly cooked and the yolks were left with the perfect easy flow. Everyone said the food tasted very good however our food was lukewarm at best some things even cold. Had it been any other day than Mother's Day, probably would have said something but we did mention it to the manager at the end so he was aware and perhaps prevent others from having the same issue. Overall - it is definitely worth another visit as the flavors were spot on! And those Scottish eggs - YUM! read more

The Rustic Spoon was sooooo good oh my goodness. I went here for brunch and it was actually pretty busy for a Tuesday morning! The atmosphere was casually classy and it was very cute. The service was great as well! Our server told us her favorite items on both the food and drink menus and it helped us decide what to get. It seemed like she was serving the entire restaurant at one point but it didn't feel like we waiting long at all or had to ask her for more refills or anything like that. Very good service! I loved that they also had a lot of vegetarian options as well and the menu was well-labeled to show which ones were vegetarian/gluten-free/etc. I thought this was super considerate! We started with an espresso martini as well as the cereal shooter flight! The martini was very well-balanced and the flights tasted just like the leftover milk after eating a bowl of cereal! There was a cinnamon toast one, fruit loops, Reese's peanut butter one and a cocoa pebble shooter. The cocoa pebble shooter was my favorite (this was the sweetest one to me)! The mushroom toast was our appetizer and it was SO GOOD. The hero was definitely the mushroom but it paired perfectly with all the other ingredients. The bread was fluffy and not too tough to cut apart. A nice savory and umami dish for sure :) The meatloaf was probably the best meatloaf I've ever had. It's pairing with the gravy and the roasted tomato corn salsa was like heaven. The carnitas hash was amazing. It was tangier than I imagined it to be, but I loved it. I expected it to be more salty but how they managed to have the tangy-ness in every bite was perfection. The dark chocolate waffle was so rich but not overly sweet/bitter! I could definitely taste the cocoa in it even without the chocolate syrup and I thought that was impressive. The spoon stack (soufflé pancakes) were not as sweet as I imagined! It was a little more eggy but was still delicious. It was super fluffy and paired nicely with the fruit and whipped cream. I will caveat the spoon stack does take about 20-25 mins to make so if you plan on ordering this as your main entree, definitely plan to wait a bit longer for this since it's a delicate process the chef has to take! I think it's worth the wait if you've never had them before :) Overall this restaurant is a 10 out of 10 when it comes to the quality/service/atmosphere! I would recommend to anyone and everyone looking for a delicious brunch place :) read more

This is a return every meal kind of place. We went for breakfast and the food was amazing. As a family, we tried about everything. I had the pulled pork hash and an order of biscuits. My niece had the blueberry biscuit with icing. The bacon was very peppery. And the graduate had the biscuits and sausage gravy with eggs. We all walked away satisfied and happy. Brought my husband here yesterday for brunch for his birthday. I do like to support local and so I believe with a few tweaks this place could probably be stellar, but unfortunately we didn't feel it was worth the money paid :( We started with the blueberry biscuits - these had good flavor, but were very very dry. Knowing how to make these fluffy and moist would be a game changer. They don't have an espresso machine, so there are no special coffee drinks; this to me is a huge thumbs down. Any restaurant who knows a thing or two would be wise to invest in coffee-related sales. The coffee was fine. I think this place caters to the boozy brunch crowd, which we don't care for. A mimosa is cool every once in awhile, but it's not where I spend my dollars mostly. Invest in an espresso machine! On to the other food; my shrimp and grit cake was swimmmmmmming in gravy. Swimming. The shrimp was also super tough. My husband had the French toast and they gave him a steak knife to cut through it. Red flag. The bread was dense but the custard filling was actually quite nice and the cream was also very good. He did order a side of bacon which looked like it had only been cooked for 60 seconds. No way, José. Make that bacon crispy!!! The service was also just...fine. We probably could have been checked on more. I think this is a place you probably have to truly try for yourself. But, we did not feel that Rustic Spoon was worth a $50 lunch. Some details and improvements to this place could make it really great. read more

I made a reservation here for brunch and since it was for a larger party I had to call it in. It was a very seamless process and they were flexible when I updated the party number. It was a Sunday so the restaurant was busy but the service was still great. It has a very comfy atmosphere. I ordered the hot chocolate and it was delicious, but came out a little too hot. For an entree I chose the steak and eggs and it was very good. I prefer more spices on my steak but it was still very satisfying. The biscuits are amazing with the butter that's served on the side. I tried the stuffed French toast of a friend's plate and it was also very good! Overall everyone had a great time and I definitely want to return and try their other dishes! read more

This restaurant sits in a spot that you'd miss if you didn't know it was there. Once inside it is very nice. Beautiful woodwork. We were seated upstairs which is like an open loft. We ordered the scotch eggs - phenomenal! I would've been satisfied with just that! Also tried the fried oysters Benedict. You get 2 oysters on each half. They do get soggy because of the egg, sauce, and green tomato. I do wish a fried green tomato was used. I think this would've given more flavor ands somewhat saved the oysters. The filet mignon was cooked as requested and tender. The hollandaise sauce didn't have much flavor. Staff was accommodating and very knowledgeable of the menu. The manager checked on us and was also very kind. Will return to try different items. read more

Absolutely loveddd this brunch spot! The food and service was on point I left pretty satisfied! The restaraunt is kind of small, I don't recommend large parties coming here together. The decor and the ambuince of the place is nice! It gives me a cozy fancy vibe. There is also a wide spread bar if you prefer to sit there. The menu had a wide spread of variety of breakfast foods. I struggled trying to decide what I wanted because it all sounded so good. I ended up getting the chicken and waffle sliders. It was pretty good! And my french toast dessert was the icing on the cake. I was too full to eat it there but it was good. Nice shareable size enough for two people to eat off of. read more

They have a wide selection of alcoholic beverages to satisfy any craving. I opted for the Short Rib Mac Melt, which was very tasty. I would say the one downside was the meat was tougher than I'd like on a sandwich. The macaroni was very tasty though, I just think the carnitas or a pulled pork would be an ever better combination. It's a very reasonable price especially coming with fries. My cousin's kid got the stuffed French toast which is gigantic & I think the biggest hype about it. We called and ordered a little bit of brunch from The Rustic Spoon.. The gentleman on the phone was nice when we ordered. I ordered the Scotch Egg with a Loaded omelet and homefries, hollandaise sauce on the side, and Lilly Mae's biscuits... My sister ordered calamari and Lilly Mae's biscuit's also. Everything was ready when we got there When we got there the parking lot was loaded... They were really busy today. Its our first time eating there so we didn't know what to expect. We were greeted right away and shown the bar so we could get our order. The bartender/cashier was nice when she checked us out. It was a little loud in there due to all the people there so i'm assuming this is the go to spot... The loaded omelet was very good with the hollandaise sauce.... That sauce really did the trick.. The scotch egg was $10, so after seeing the size of it i felt ripped off a bit... But after tasting it I know i'd get it again.. The sauce that came with it made it even better!! Food was subpar and that is just for what was given correctly. I came with my partner and friend and both of their orders were incorrect, cold- like had been in the fridge for an hour kind of cold, and overall not seasoned or flavorful at all. Both of them decided to not eat and we would have asked to have something else swapped out had we seen our waitress again. They swapped her for someone else after we waited almost 35 minutes to order drinks, finally ordered our food around the 1 hour mark of being there, received it about 45 minutes later and then had to ask someone else (this would've been the 3rd or 4th person we'd had to interact with) to get the check. Definitely not a fan. The building is crowded, uncomfortable and we were seated in a tucked away corner so we were easily forgotten. For my dining pleasure, I tried something new and went with the Bennie & the Grits. This dish piqued my interest because I never heard of grits cakes in the four decades of living on this planet. For about 20 bucks, the dish included three fried grit cakes with ground sausage, grilled shrimp, more sausage, two poached eggs and a side. Although the serving size was HUGE, I was not a bit fan of the dish. Note, I didn't think the dish was prepared badly, I just didn't get the concept of the fried grits (this from a grits lover); however, everything else with the dish was pretty good. If you are a Bloody Mary lover, you might some interesting varieties of Bloody Marys here. Additionally, I really appreciated that The Egg Bistro ranks the Bloody Marys based on spice level. When I walked in, I noticed their dining room is dimly lit - much darker than I remember. I took my time looking over the food menu, and in the meantime I ordered a pint of Center of the Universe's Bald Irishman and a bottle of Boylan's Black Cherry soda (they do not have a soda fountain). What made this visit memorable was that 1608's bartender, Hunter, was an old acquaintance from back in my restaurant days. He spotted me and came over to say hi. After my meal, I continued to catch up with him at the bar. His presence made a pleasant experience even more fantastic. I thought I was hungry, so I ordered 2 dishes - Smoked Ham Fried Rice and the Breakfast Burrito. According to Hunter, every item is made fresh in house. We actually drove about 30 minutes specifically to try them, but unfortunately they weren't available. Even though I was disappointed, I still had a really nice experience. The café wasn't busy when we visited there was only one couple dining in, it was clean, and the customer service was great. The employee who helped us was friendly, welcoming, and very kind. Since they were out of the malasadas, I decided to order the banana latte instead. I'd give it about a 7/10. For context, I'm always searching for a great banana latte because I love flavored coffee. One thing that frustrates me is when coffee shops advertise flavors like cookie butter, lemon pound cake, or red velvet, but the drink just ends up tasting like sweet coffee with no real trace of the advertised flavor. I was pleasantly surprised because this latte actually tasted like banana. It wasn't the best banana latte I've ever had that title still belongs to one I had in Las Vegas but it was definitely one of the better ones I've tried. The only reason it wasn't rated higher is because I noticed a sugary base flavor that overpowered the coffee a little for me. I personally prefer flavored lattes where I mainly taste the coffee cut with milk and the featured flavor heavily, not just sweetness. That's purely my preference. The fact that I finished the entire drink says a lot. I've had plenty of flavored coffees that I couldn't even finish because I disliked them so much. This wasn't one of those. I enjoyed it, and I definitely didn't regret ordering it. Now...the real star of the visit was the lumpia. It was AMAZING. Crispy, flavorful, and easily some of the best lumpia I've had. I actually tried another lumpia spot recently, and while it was decent, Ohana & Co.'s lumpia completely won me over. It's honestly the reason I'll be back. I have an eye appointment in the area next week, and I'm already planning another stop. I'll definitely be ordering the lumpia again, and this time I'm hoping they have the banana malasadas because that's what I originally came for. I also want to try one of their platters. Overall, I'd absolutely recommend giving Ohana & Co. a try. The customer service was wonderful, the café was clean, the banana latte was one of the better ones I've had, and the lumpia alone is worth the drive.

My wife had the Blackened Shrimp Tacos and Rum cake. Let me tell yall, that Rum Cake was absolutely delicious!! The service was phenomenal!! Huge huge huge shoutout and thank you to Mario for making my wife and I feel so welcomed and taken cared of!! The Food and Mario's kind service is literally the reason this establishment is getting a 5 out of 5. If you go here, make sure to ask for Mario, he's great! I otherwise would have specifically requested the order be made without the them. I am not a big fan of mushrooms and especially the fragrant kind like the shiitake variety. I feel like I had mouthfuls of mushrooms in each bite and that's all I tasted. Perhaps I will order something else they are more known for the next time I believe they specialize in Szechuan cuisine.

Came here with two others for brunch on a Sunday. Weather was great and we were happy to be able to sit outside. We arrived at 9am so there was no wait but please note you might need a reservation (although rez are not taken for outdoor tables). Our waitress was amazing, friendly, informative, honest, and fun. She started us off with three great mimosas. Between the three of us we ordered The Good with Edward's ham, the French toast, and the shrimp and grits. Stop here. Pause for a minute. I cannot explain to you how good the food is!! Seriously. This may be the absolute best place to eat in Hampton Roads. From the design of the dish, to plating, to the flavors, it is all amazing. The Good is a basic eggs/potatoes/meat plate but even that was done so fantastically it blew my mind. The French toast is basically half a loaf of brioche stuffed with yummy - it may be impossible for a normal human being to eat. The shrimp and grits isn't like anything you've ever had. The shrimp are huge and the grits are served in a cake-style so this isn't just a big bowl of grits with some shrimp in it. That dish tasted great too. This is hands down the best breakfast place to go to. The list of food that is amazing could go on all day from the crab cake bite appetizer to the chicken and waffles and even the dark chocolate waffles everything is so amazing. The specialty food they come up with every time is awesome putting Mac and cheese on a sandwich literally genius. But this place goes so far past good food. It's wonderful down to its core. The employees are all fantastic and upbeat and positive. Quick to get you what you need and always ready to put a smile on your face. Management is even top tier always on site always approachable. I will always come here for breakfast. Shout out to Nikki and Greg who served me this time but you have great servers like Angie and Olivia and great kitchen staff like Jamie and Anthony. Rustic Spoon is a great spot for brunch with a warm, welcoming vibe. The place is nicely decorated and feels cozy. They have dining upstairs, but we stayed downstairs. While it's not super roomy, it didn't feel claustrophobic at all, and the lower-level dining area can comfortably fit a stroller, which we appreciated. For food, we ordered the seafood omelette and the Reuben sandwich. The omelette was flavorful and well-balanced, but the real highlight of our meal was the calamari -- it was absolutely delicious and a must-order. Our server was very patient and extremely attentive, which made the experience even better. Overall, we really enjoyed our visit and will definitely be back to try more dishes. The food, I can't speak honestly say my pancakes were good, my omelette was okay but the hash browns were too thin and overcooked to a crisp. So I recommend the pancakes if you're thinking of trying this place out and anything else you'd have to decide on your own.

The ingredients tasted fresh, the bowl was filling without feeling too heavy, and the flavors blended together so well. It's one of those meals you keep thinking about after you leave. I also want to mention the staff because the hospitality truly added to the experience. Everyone was friendly, welcoming, and attentive, which made the visit feel even more enjoyable. Overall, this was a great first experience, beautiful atmosphere, flavorful food, and excellent service. This is definitely going on my list of go-to restaurants whenever I'm visiting Virginia Beach again. First, the service was absolutely wonderful. At no point during our meal, did we ever have to wonder the whereabouts of our waitress, which hilarious (BTW). Also, she did a wonderful job explaining the specials and providing recommendations on what to have...and importantly what to drink. The restaurant has a huge variety of breakfast dishes, so I think everyone should be able to find something that they would like. Personally, I went with a seafood omelette (I forget what it was actually called and I'm too lazy to look it up). I was quite pleased to see that the omelette was jammed packed with seafood. Relative to the area, I thought the prices were fair. Since we arrived pretty early on a Saturday, we did not have to wait for a table. Or maybe, we didn't have to wait because we had a reservation. If we stay at the same hotel for our next Va. Beach visit, we definitely will return to Citrus for breakfast/brunch.
