The French toast one friend got looked yummy! My other friend got the clams and a chicken Cesar salad which she enjoyed. We reserved for upstairs room for a small group Christmas party . We were happily placed by the nice wide window and made it more endearing to see the view outside. The place is packed with multiple different groups but not like claustrophobic. We were also near the Christmas tree so the picture taking is too cute. As usual we were greeted by the staff as you enter. They were warm, friendly and accommodating. Upstairs, our waitress is nice, efficient and gave us time to order since we were a big group. My new go to brunch spot! The inside is very cozy and comfortable. Wasn't too crowded or at least didn't feel that way, though about 80% of the tables were filled. Our waitresses were very sweet and came to check in on us numerous times throughout our visit. I ordered their seasonal apple cider sangria (went here during the fall / winter season) (10/10). The carnitas hash and a side waffle (10/10). Also got a Caesar salad with shrimp (8/10, was a little dry but good flavor) along with garlic mashers (9/10). This was the first and last time I visited The Rustic Spoon. The name should be the Rusty Spoon. The food was disappointing to say the least. The chicken was dry a day the French toast was soggy. Also members in my party complained that the food was cold, the French Fries were hard and the mac & cheese was gummy. We left more food on the plate than we were able to eat. We could have gotten a better meal at Mc Donald's or Wendy's. Than there was hidden fee that showed up on the bill. I was over charged by almost $75. Not worth your time or effort. Another great recommendation from yelp, it was a bit crowded for mother's days but was able to sit at the bar being a single. Bartenders were busy but still were cheerful and attentive. Had the filet eggs Benedict's and they were great. I would recommend and return. read more

Came here with a group of my friends to have brunch. I haven't been here yet and heard good things so I was excited to try. It was a rainy day which sucked and the lighting inside was also dim so the mood wasn't as vibrant as it could've been. We talked at the table and decided on what we'd all order so we could try each other's food. We started with the Sweet Potato Biscuit with ham and pepper jelly off of the specials menu and then the Crab Cake Bites. The Sweet Potato Biscuit was light in Sweet Potato flavor and the ham was pretty salty. Everyone loved the Crab Cake Bites. They had little filler, they came with a nice sauce to balance and were served on top of a slaw. Coleslaw is usually hit or miss for me but this slaw was yummy and a great pairing with the crab. We ordered The Stuffed French Toast, the Edwards Country Ham Benedict, the Short Rib Mac Melt, the Apple Pie Pancakes from the specials menu and the Loaded Omelette. My friend also ordered a pancake to go with her omelette but it never came. I was worried about getting the Ham Benedict that was recommended by the server after trying the same ham from the sweet potato biscuit but I had already ordered it all at once so I had to go with it. I will say the Benedict balanced out the saltiness of the Ham and it was better than I expected. Everyone loved the Stuffed French Toast and thought it was very balanced in flavor and not overly sweet. The strawberries, merengue and candied walnuts gave a perfect bite. The Omelette was a bit underwhelming and the Short Rib Mac Melt was solid with a great smoky flavor. The portion of Apple Pie Pancakes was large and they were thick and fluffy. They are baby friendly and will assist you in setting up your table for baby seats or high chairs. They also have upstair loft style seating. There is an adjacent outdoor patio area. Their restrooms are clean and are located down stairs and upstairs as well. The service is very prompt, polite, and courteous. There is ample parking that's free but share the space with multiple businesses in the strip mall complex. It is a bit tight, but manageable. The food options for brunch are plentiful and don't disappoint. Even pairing several sides makes for a great alternative to the custom order options. Our waitress was good and attentive throughout our dining experience, and the service was pretty good as we did not feel like we had to wait too long for food. We each ended up ordering some type of Benedict - he got the Crab Cake Benedict and I ordered the special for the day, which was some sort of fish (I think Cobia). Both were fresh, tasty and well seasoned. The portions were perfect and left us stuffed. We also ordered the Build Your Own Mimosa with orange and pineapple as our juice options. Saw the stuffed French toast and spoon stack on the menu so I just knew I had to go here. Went for a sitdown brunch. The ambiance was loud and the service wasn't very good. I was only able to get the stuffed French toast (15$) because the spoon stack was sadly not served on the weekend. The stuffed French toast was pretty good but it wasn't really a stuffed French toast, the top of the French toast just had a lot of the "stuffing" but on the inside there wasn't any of the "stuffing". The Rustic Spoon is kind of an underrated brunch spot in Hampton Roads in my opinion. This is in comparison to the Bay Local, Bee and the Biscuit, and Egg Bistro establishments. It's not as well known but I believe it should be! It's located past Bayside in an inconspicuous area. The parking is not too plentiful but it is still enough. We came for a large group celebrating a birthday. Luckily, there is an upstairs dining area which accommodates us nicely. It is a brunch rest but it also offers delicious lunch/dinner options. The interior is clean and well decorated. We ordered the Bay Burger and the Carnitas Hash with a kids pancake entree. The food came out with an acceptable wait due to a large party but it was not too long. The Bay Burger with the juicy Hereford beef and crab cake was an absolute hit! The Baja sauce complimented the crab cake perfectly and the burger was done medium rare. The carnitas hash was pretty good with the sauces and toppings but it was nothing special. I came to the Pleasure House location. I chose to sit out side. The patio had several tables with umbrellas. To start, I knew that I wanted an afternoon cocktail. My waitress Jordan, who was great but the way, suggested their Mimosas. To save time, I ordered two drinks. I ordered a $3 pineapple mimosa and a watermelon mojito. The mimosa was the perfect balance of champagne and juice. The watermelon mojito was served in a cute mason jar, which was so refreshing and delicious! There were so many options on the menu that I wanted to try, but I was short on time. I ordered the biscuit appetizer. it came with 2 biscuits, strawberry jam, and butter. 7 out of 10. But the star of the visit was my entree. I ordered a carnita hash! OH MY GOODNESS! Talk about a party for my taste buds. pork carnita, roasted corn, potatoes, onions, and cojita cheese, and I'm not sure what 6 it was amazing. The flavors were so bright and well balanced. I've tried the Rustic Spoon in the Red Mills neighborhood but not the biggest fan of it, but finally got a chance to try the OG Rustic Spoon, and I'm not disappointed! I've had this dish from the Red Mills location before but just couple bites from my bf(using my gf card lol), and it is as delicious as it was! Unlike the typical old bay shrimp & grits, the Rustic Spoon's Shrimp & Grits CAKE is very tomato-ish, filled with cut sausages, and the grits are stacked into a rectangle and seared so it stays stacked. The shrinps are fresh, HUGE and with simple but nice flavor. They tryely made this Shrimp & Grits to proves that you don't need to put old bay on seafood to make it taste/look good. My coworkers all LOVE their food. One of them was still talking about how delicious amd pretty her burger was when we headed back to the office.
