Overall it is a fantastic place to come and relax with great entertainment. We came for brunch and to visit a new spot. I think the brunch was over priced for the amount of food you get. $16.95 ea. It should be $9.95 ea. The service was not great at all and we are big on service. The drink took 20 minutes to come out however the manager came over and apologize for the drink taking so long and she took care of it. I actually like this place and will come back and try another section to see if the experience will be different. I will say come check it out for yourself and see what you think. read more

Great experience coming here while staying in downtown Houston. Their weekend brunch is plenty of food, all very flavorful and served in appropriate portions. For $16.95 you get spicy fried chicken, French toast, grits, donuts, bacon and sausage, salad, and a cheese plate. Ambience is excellent as it is covered but open and live music was playing. First time having their brunch- so good! It's a flat fee and you get small portions of everything on the brunch menu per every guest at your table. I didn't like that when my friend and I ordered coffee, it only came in French press and we each had to get our own French press instead of sharing one. Definitely a good weekend spot for brunch, day drinking, and night festivities. There's musicians that play on various nights and it's a chill spot. Good for out of town guests. read more

This place is a great venue for live music. I wasn't expecting the open space but there isn't a bad seat in the house. You can see the stage from just about any spot in the restaurant. It has a Texas country kinda theme and I assume they only play country music bands - which I guess is ok. The staff is very friendly and the food is good. The drinks aren't bad either. I ordered a couple old fashions. I was pleased. I hope to stop in to see a band one day, but I'm not a big country music fan. read more

Had to be downtown for a conference at the GRB Center so thought I'd check out The Rustic. Glad I did. Great selection of foods. Venue was busy, loud, fun so stay away if you're looking for a quiet conversational dinner. I took the servers recommendation for the Hot Chicken n Cheese Sandwich with a side of potato salad. Sandwich was delicious. Excellent cook on the Texas Toast bread and chicken. I'm always a little leery on ordering potato salad but this was well made and unique with a nice creamy dill base. Another plus is the huge selection of beers and cocktails. I had to leave before the music started. Maybe next time!! read more

By the time my friend made her way through the tastings, she had already spent $20+. They also charge a 20% auto-grat. Not a fan of that percentage for self-serve and counter service (you have to order food at the register). We ended up going to Mimo down the street to sit at the bar, taste complimentary samples, and then order a full glass. I'll still go back to Roots but have kinda lowered my expectations of the wine selection and value. Some of the novelty has worn off. Good news is that their food is still solid: loved the mushroom toast and ricotta toast last I tried it.

There's a bar in the main lobby area and in each room where it's full bar and a decent amount of beers on tap. Drinks are pricy as it's during shows so dont' expect dive-bar prices when you're planning to get your drink on here. I'll probably be here for future shows should I find any artists that suit my music/comedy tastes.

Disappointing Experience for an Event Professional - Think Twice About Hosting Here If you're considering The Rustic Down in Houston for a special event, I would advise you to look elsewhere. While I have to commend the service team, who were fantastic and professional, the experience with the restaurant manager that night was disappointing. I had a confrontation with her that left me feeling unwelcome and regretting my choice of venue. After hosting an event, I had informed the special event manager that my coworker and I would like to stay for dinner to relax. Once we paid our bill, I asked to be seated, only to be told, "You can go put your name on a waiting list, but it's about an hour wait for a table." When I requested to speak with the manager, her response echoed the same, insisting it wouldn't be fair to accommodate us over those already waiting. This manager was inhospitable, unaccommodating, and showed a surprising lack of flexibility in a situation that could have been easily managed. With an extensive background in hospitality and event planning, including a degree in restaurant management, a master's in hospitality, and experience as a restaurant owner and hospitality professor, I was shocked by her lack of customer service. She could have handled it differently by saying, "Let me add you to the list and grab you a drink while you wait," or perhaps, "I'll see if we can find you a spot at the bar." Instead, I was told it was my responsibility to get on the waiting list earlier and that it was "my problem." This manager's lack of care and unwillingness to think creatively completely soured what had been an otherwise enjoyable evening. It's a shame, as the service team did everything right, but for special events, I'd recommend choosing a venue that understands hospitality and makes you feel valued from start to finish. read more

However, we didn't receive service until a member of our party inquired about a server. After more than 15 minutes, we were blessed with Nick! Nick is an amazing server. He was attentive, courteous, knowledgeable about the menu, personable and handsome. We ordered the Toast & Jam brunch family style course. It includes, house made pastries, fresh fruit, biscuit & gravy, French toast, peppered bacon, "hot" chicken, frittata, jicama & cucumber salad and roasted fingerling potatoes. The highlight was the French toast and "hot chicken". Both were room temperature. The pastries were tiny and not realistically shareable. The fruit (strawberries) were a garnish. The manager, Josh, was very apologetic and he resolved the issues quickly. He also offered a complimentary dessert. Turns out, the 8-layer banana pudding is the real star of the show! It's a mason jar full of homemade custard, layered with sliced banana and vanilla wafers drizzled with caramel and topped with a cloud of fresh whipped cream. It was divine. I'm not sure if she's a server or a highly decorated secret agent sent from the future to revolutionize hospitality, but either way, I'm obsessed. I have been going to The Rustic periodically since it opened and got stuck in the awesome rut of eating the same hot chicken and cheese sandwich ever since...until yesterday. I had to write a review after i finally experienced The Rustic Brunch! WOWSA! For just 16.95 you get about 9 items served to you and each items is delicious! Salad, quiche, bacon, sausage, hot chicken and fried pickles, grits and gravy, cheeses with honey butter and fruit and french toast! I was seriously blown away when the waiter walked up with the 4 plates/dishes! Service, music and atmosphere are always excellent but again, this brunch had me making sure to post a review...so worth the money! (and thanks to an awesome bar staff, i was talked into venturing out of my comfort zone of the usual awesome sandwich haha! I own a condo a couple of blocks from the upcoming flagship location opening in a couple of weeks in Uptown Park near the Galleria so you can bet me and family and friends will be coming every weekend for The Rustic Brunch! read more

I love the location and vibe of The Rustic. Our server was nice, however it became very apparent that they did not staff correctly for the Sabrina Carpenter crowd. So many empty tables, luckily we had a reservation at 5:45, while others were waiting and by 6:40 pm they were telling people without reservations that they were booked for the night (again so many empty tables). We had water, the appetizer came out before the drinks, then the drinks when only 1/2 of our 4 person table received their food. The ones served first were 1/2 through their meal when the other 2 entrees came out. Food was not as good as the past, and we aren't sure if this was a short staffing issue or the venue is just going down hill. Over all we are not in a hurry to come back. read more

We were a large group that went in with a reservation..the waitress was fine.. They were out of a lot of items on the menu. There were no burgers, except for the salmon. They were out of brisket, which was really a let down with it being a bbq type place. It would have been helpful to know upfront so we could have decided to stay or not. We ordered the carnitas tacos, which you have to have a minimum of 2 people order, had too much of a cinnamon or clove flavor to the meat. It was also very dry.The tortillas were ice cold. I didn't like that the chicken and pork were all served all on the same plate. That could have been an issue if someone had a restriction to pork. The ambiance is phenomenal and immersive, and the selections are pretty good for whatever you may want. It's definitely on the pricey side for the portions, but some things, like The Drunk Chick, are well worth it. I definitely also recommend getting it with a side of their shells and cheese, which is one of the best country style Mac and cheese I've had. Our waitress and the other waitresses were amazingly sweet and caring. Our waitress was super diligent with her tasks and making sure her tables were never waiting for service. She was and is very bubbly and welcoming. I immediately found her soothing to talking to. I have anxiety with crowds and she unknowingly helped me relax and feel more at ease. The food was DELICIOUS! The cooks are awesome! We didn't have to wait for long and our plates came out with no mistakes with our orders. The ambiance was cozy and the outdoor sitting was so nice! For a Friday night, we were able to catch the last song of a local performer finishing her set. I forgot her name, but she was really good! From the lights to the sound, seems like this place really knows how to put on a show! I tried the Texas peach. It's a gin drink that was a little on the sweet side but tastes just like a sweet peach in liquid form - average price. Our server was attentive and was able to split checks amongst our party of 9. The sweet chile like sauce brought it all together nicely. I sampled some of the pork ribeye requested medium, and wow was it tender and juicy! Definitely a must try if you're a pork fan! The sangria I ordered took quite some time to concoct and make its way to my table, but it was a strong and a generous amount. The burger was juicy and the bacon was nice and crispy! I eat everything off that plate. And that bacon. Omg! Fresh and perfectly cooked. I sat at the bar and the atmosphere was relaxed and the service was welcoming. Definitely a nice casual spot downtown. It's on Main St where all the bars are at so you can walk around after to enjoy the city

We drove here from Magnolia to meet my son halfway for his birthday. I wish I could say it was…read moreworth it, but it just wasn't. Drinks were great. Food was...meh. I ordered the country fried steak and my potatoes were cold and dry. The steak was pre breaded and had to be frozen. The country gravy was thick and well, there just wasn't enough. My other half ordered the shrimp tacos and he said they were good. I tasted my son's Texas redfish and the flavor was good. The rice pilaf was "ok". Our waiter was great. Very attentive and we appreciated his service! We did make a reservation, but it wasn't necessary because it is a seat yourself establishment. Between the soccer game and the Rastros vs Rangers game, it was hard to hear the person next to you. If you're looking for a quiet place, this isn't it. Overall, this place is great for drinks, hence "Moonshiners" and in my experience isn't great for dining with family.
