The Secret Group is a venue that hosts local comedy shows as well as live music, theme nights, and other events. It's located in the heart of EaDo. You can park on the street, or the well lit paid parking lot directly across the street from the venue. I attended Vivian Tu's (@your.richbff) "Rich AF" book tour. The vibe reminded me of the original Emo's in Austin. It's grungy and divey and is reminiscent of past venues in EaDo before it became gentrified (anyone remember the Meridian?!). The line to get in was long and moved extremely slow (which was unfortunate because it was very cold that night). The venue has multiple rooms. The room where we were in was packed with chairs and it was hard to move around to get to the bar. It was nearly impossible to pass by people at the bar without rubbing up against them. Needless to say, it wasn't very comfortable. The only saving grace is that the drinks were strong and cheap so I was able to look past the discomfort of not having personal space at the bar. They have a bar in the main lobby area as well as bars in each of the rooms. The snarky neon signs in the lobby are pretty funny. This place is no frills, but I appreciate their effort to support local artists and comedians.

Very nice, quaint, great staff, location is convenient. Lots of places to sit, great space for events.

Definitely not what I expected but one of the more interesting small music venues I've seen. Came here to see a few bands (pacmanthemovie, local act plus red handed denial and unprocessed, good folks) and it was the smallest stage and room I remember, maybe few hundred capacity but honestly that was nice! Mix here was decent, acoustics good enough and staff helpful, good assortment of drinks and a couple bars across this whole space. Keep in mind, it seems like there are three spaces (bar, venue, and open mic area (?)) in this venue, you can hear the band and the act in the other room in the hallways to restrooms so that was cool. Bar seems to open up for DJ nights later, when we left the show around 11am it was packed on bar side. Never been to Houston before and this space and area in general were quite excellent, wouldn't mind stopping thru again.

I perform here several times a month. The comedy scene is my social life. Boring, but true. Many don't know this but there is comedy at Secret pretty much every day. The bartenders are amazing and it's always good times,

First time at the secret group for K-pop night and what can I say besides it was awesome the environment was lively the crowed was amp'd up the bar wasn't insanely busy so drinks were made surprisingly fast. The bartender looked like he wasn't having a good time but he was quick and efficient at his job so I can't complain. The venue was clean the speakers sounded perfect and it was a really enjoyable night and amazing experience.

I came here to see Transviolet. I loved the venue because of the small size so wherever you choose to stand to watch the show, it's always a good view. I did, however, choose to stand up front by the stage. Getting into the venue was easy - the dude who worked the door was super chill, friendly, and just gave out an overall good vibe. The bartender who was working was also super cool and friendly. I haven't been here for a comedy show yet, but I definitely wouldn't mind coming here and check it out some time in the future. Also, if one of the bands I follow come into town to perform here, I'd definitely come check them out.

This is a Houston, TX gem. Comics from across the country and local. They have some hit-and-miss comedians but mostly hits. They have a bar and good vibes all around. Give this establishment a shot. I've been multiple times, and I won't lead you astray

Finally, the owner came over after much back & forth & offered a free drink. After that, the Riot manager offered to refund us if we left!!!!! We accepted One drink. They could have handled it so many different ways. Starting with Not telling us we were LESS important to them than their other customers. They could have been honest upfront & offered to give us the difference in ticket price. But instead, they don't care & they just hope you don't know what's going on!!!!! Terrible customer service. Or, maybe they want the people sitting in their reserved seats to look a certain way. I feel if we tried a third time we would AGAIN be seated in GA. They do not care!!!!! They were Rude & acted inconvenienced that we said anything to them!!!! No idea how to run a business or treat customers! This is a regular scam they are running. We talked to others after the show that also bought reserved & sat in back corner GA folding table. The manager told them "they should have bought VIP if didn't want to sit there"!!!!! THEN when show started & VIP tables in the center needed to be filled, they moved the GA people to those tables and NOT the couples who had questioned why our payment was not honored. This was the ultimate insult. The manager was angry with us that we dared to ask about our seating. These Riot does not deserve a dime of your money.

Honestly, the butter popcorn was the best thing I ate from the Punchline. There is a two drink minimum which is pretty common for comedy clubs, but out of all the drinks we ordered only one actually tasted good and of course it was the smallest drink on the menu just filled with a lot of ice. The club itself was spacious, with enough room that we didn't feel like we were sitting on top of each other. The service from both our waitress and waiter was excellent, and they were attentive and friendly throughout the show. One issue that really stood out was the carpet our chairs sat on. It was wet and seemed to be soaked with some type of liquid. We attended a late show, so I'm not sure if it was left over from the previous show or if the carpet had been cleaned and simply hadn't dried yet. Either way, leaving a comedy show with soaking wet feet was definitely not a pleasant experience sandals or not. Ron Funches was AMAZING! He absolutely made the night worth it. His performance was hilarious, entertaining, and easily the highlight of the evening. Also got to see Ian Terry in the audience that also was great surprise. I most definitely will be back soon hopefully to better drinks.

My friend purchased tickets through Groupon. The second time we went, the employee gave us a free upgrade from balcony to mezzanine which was awesome. If you want to splurge, they do offer the royalty throne seats which they will auction off at the start of the show. As royalty, you do have some control during the show which adds to the fun. The Emerald Theater is small and intimate and is designed as a library. When you enter, you receive a welcome shot and a membership card. Each seat has a QR code that you can scan to order food and drinks before and during the show. I've gone to two productions and both have been hilarious! The cast was actually different between the two shows and they both did a fantastic job! I saw "Romeo and Juliet" last summer. The show was raunchy and went off the rails pretty quickly. If you're easily offended, I would recommend skipping this show. It loosely followed the plot and was so wild (in the best way)! A few months later, we saw "A Christmas Carol" (3, 2, 1, Dickens!). We were chatting with one of the actors, Tatiana before the show and she offered me the opportunity to take a shot with her. What I didn't realize is that I was going to be doing a shot on stage with her at the start of the show to prove that the alcohol was real (it was straight rum). She took 4 shots of rum and held her own! It was actually quite incredible lol. The show was so funny and not quite as raunchy as Romeo and Juliet. The Drunk Shakespeare Society also performs "Drunk Dracula" in October. They have a pirate show that's going to debut this summer as well (which I'm sure will be hilarious). This is such a fun experience and I am looking forward to going back!
