The cool thing about the location is they have their own coffee shop and bar and a few sitting areas so you can hang out before the show. The coffee shop also offer pastries and is open from 7 am! As far as the comedy part itself, we've been to a Monday open mic night - which I didn't expect to be great but we wanted to do something a little different for date night. The employees are nice and they even warned us that the talent might not be the best, but we still had a good time. The stage is nice and well lit and the seating areas all have good views of the stage. Overall I think its a nice addition to the neighborhood - something to do other than eating and drinking. Hopefully they bring in some good acts pretty soon!

After all, nobody wants to be stuck sitting next to someone who is excessively intoxicated while trying to enjoy a comedy show. It's nice that the club prioritizes everyone's experience. However, I was disappointed with the Halloween Candy Martini, which was actually candy served in a martini-style cup, not a drink. I was expecting something festive and creative, but it consisted of Skittles, M&Ms, and gummy bears. When I think of Halloween candy, I immediately think of candy corn and other seasonal favorites. The selection felt cheap, uninspired, and poorly thought out. To make matters worse, the candy was served in a plain plastic martini cup without any festive decorations or Halloween flair. It was such a missed opportunity to create something fun and memorable, especially for a Halloween-themed treat! On a positive note, the mocktail I ordered was absolutely on point! Overall, I really enjoy this comedy club and will definitely return. I just wish they had put more thought and creativity into their seasonal offerings. Insert SpongeBob montage: 8 minutes later... She finally takes our drink order. Fast-forward to 8:00 p.m. We're watching countless tables get their drinks while we're still sitting there empty-handed. I'm a patient man, so I just smile. Of course, our waitress comes over and tells us our drinks are being made and that she'll go check on them. With every pass she makes and every smile she gives us, I'm sure she can sense just how happy I am. Let's jump to 8:10 p.m. Other tables are already on their second round! Yay, them! They've met their two-drink minimum. Sound the alarm! Whoop whoop! Meanwhile, we're still waiting, with our waitress continuing to reassure us that our drinks are being made. Fast-forward another 10 minutes. The guy behind the bar literally comes over and asks if we've ordered drinks. Excuse me, what? And guess what? There are no drinks being made behind the bar. The fact that it took 40 minutes to get a simple drink absolutely baffles me. Now, I also asked our waitress if they had gentleman's cubes for an Old Fashioned. I literally described a big ball of ice, and she assured me they did. Instead, my drink shows up with little ice cubes. Whatever, it's cool. If you don't know, just ask someone who does. It's really not that complicated. I'll let that one slide. So, after 40-plus minutes, we FINALLY get our drinks halfway through the show. Being the smart person I am, I decide to order my second drink since, you know, it's REQUIRED. Wouldn't you know it? That one arrives in record time: five minutes. I was shocked!!!! Insert screaming emoji face. Apparently, the bar does know how to make drinks after all! Now, to be fair, they did make a nice gesture at the end. I walked away with an $188 tab for seven drinks. I'll let you do the math, but we don't even pay this much in NYC!! You'd think after an experience like that, there would be a substantial discount or, at the very least, a sincere apology from management. Instead, they simply slid tickets to some random show into my bill. The show is during Thanksgiving break and features someone I've never even heard of. Don't get me wrong. I'm genuinely grateful for the gesture. But common decency would suggest that someone from management come over, act like an adult, and apologize for the mishap. We never once received an apology. It's just human nature. If I screw up, I'm going to say I'm sorry and ask how I can make things right. I'm not just going to assume that handing someone tickets to a show during Thanksgiving break is going to solve everything. Especially when I'm pretty sure I'll be out of town. And, by the way, don't forget that two-drink minimum! My advice? Order the cheapest thing on the menu twice and save yourself the headache of waiting for your waitress to return. At least you'll meet the drink requirement without spending half the show wondering whether your drinks are being made. Fun fact: After bringing me the bill, our waitress came back to the table MULTIPLE times within minutes to see if I was ready to sign. Now THAT was some impressive service! Talk about convenience. As for the inside stage area, it has some nice sound quality although it can get hot due to the amount of people it can pack inside. Ballyhoo! drew quite the crowd which I'm not surprised with. There's a bar in the main lobby area and in each room where it's full bar and a decent amount of beers on tap. Drinks are pricy as it's during shows so dont' expect dive-bar prices when you're planning to get your drink on here. I'll probably be here for future shows should I find any artists that suit my music/comedy tastes.

We reserved a preferred four-person table in the lower section closer to the stage. The venue is at Marq*E, with plenty of free parking. Doors opened at 6:30 p.m. for a 7:30 p.m. show, and since preferred tables are first-come, first-served, we arrived about an hour early to get a good spot. Check-in was easy: we showed our ticket QR code, received wristbands, and were directed into the showroom. The seating is arranged with two- to four-person tables right next to the stage, additional tables about 10-15 feet back, and theater-style seating farther behind. We picked a table in the middle, which turned out to be a great view. I'd recommend arriving early if you have preferred seating--you probably don't want to be too close to the stage unless you're okay with potentially catching some comedian spit! Servers came around to take drink and food orders. We had already eaten dinner before arriving, so we didn't order anything, but I appreciated that the staff were very friendly and not pushy about trying to get us to order drinks or food. It made the experience feel relaxed and comfortable. The acoustics were great, and both opening comedians were funny. Martin Amini put on a really good set and had us laughing throughout the show. Overall, we had a great night and a very enjoyable experience at the Improv. If there's a comedian you follow coming to town, it's worth checking out. I love Cirque shows…read more My wife and I figured we'd see a show while living in Houston and they were in town, so that's exactly what we did! This show was great! I have liked all three of the touring shows I've seen, but this was my first time in the Big Tent! It was a super hot day out, but the AC kept things nice inside. Don't expect big, comfortable seating with ample space to stretch out because these kinds of things are meant for packing people in. It's OK, that's what I expected since that's how most event-type places are. I'm glad there was an intermission so I could stretch out my back a little, though. Parking was easy getting in and out, although I could see it taking a bit longer if you get there a bit later than semi-early or if you get out of the tent a little slower. My favorite act was the juggler!

It will cost you $12 to park. The good thing about the parking is it was super organized so even though there were long lines of cars trying to park, the lines were moving; and once I had paid, the attendees directed me where to go and it took me less than a minute to park. Before you can enter the Grand Chapiteau, you have to go through your typical security measure. There are no metal detectors but they will look inside your purse if you have one. I was here with my sister and she didn't have a purse so we didn't even get checked. She did have a jacket on her but they didn't check it. This means you could sneak in your own snacks/drinks should you be inclined to. Why would one be inclined to sneak in their own snacks/drinks? Well, a bottled water/soda will run you $5. Nachos will run you $10. A Cotton candy will run you $8. Hot dog will run you $7. You see where I'm going with this? If you're coming here with your family (kids, wife, girlfriend, whatever), then you be better be ready to be dropping some $$$$. As for the show, it's your typical CDS stage/seating. You have the round stage with the seats surrounding them. I was lucky enough to get good seats to the right side and three rows from the stage so I was able to see everything clearly. If you opt to sit toward the back, some times you can't even see the faces of the performers clearly. The show started at eight on the dot. Some of the performances are pretty typical CDS where it would amaze you what a human body can do with training (contortionist, balancing act, juggling). Some of the other acts were more creative (invisible circus, finger dancing, animal impression). One act in particular was a combination of both where you have this dude playing yo-yo in the middle of the stage, but holy cow, he could control them yo-yos like they were a part of his body. I felt like he should have been competing in international yo-yo championship or something. All in all, I was happy with the show. This was also my sister's first Cirque Du Soleil and so everything was brand new to her and she was thoroughly impressed with the performances. CDS is always a fun event to go to and I definitely will go to whatever other Cirque Du Soleil shows that would make a stop in Houston.

It's small enough that you can actually feel close to the artist, which makes the experience much more personal than a huge arena. I love being up close and personal with the talent, and HOB is one of those places where that's actually possible. The venue has a good concert atmosphere without feeling overwhelming, and I've always enjoyed the energy of the crowd. It's easy to see why so many artists stop here when they want a more intimate show. Overall, it's a solid venue for what I go for.
