Really cool place! It was clean, well lit and plenty of seating. The food was good and the portions were really big so we could share it family style. The staff was very friendly and really helpful. read more

Rice Box is okay. My biggest problem is that their tofu is too salty and they just don't fry it well. It always tastes..."dry". It's quite weird, but the rest of my family likes their food so I get it. Also it's non-obvious which is the vegetarian egg roll and which is the meat one, since they only use a blue mark to indicate a difference...not what the difference is. read more

I was so impressed by the amount they gave! Ordered takeout on a Friday and picked it up curbside. The parking is really poor so I wouldn't even want to go without curbside. I had the Mongolian beef. The beef was tasty, but the veggies and sauce were kind of bland. I'd go back though and try something else. read more

I ordered the special thinking it would be their best meal. Turned out not to be. Egg roll was good but the noodles were bland. If I wanted that time of quality I could of gone to Panda Express. The place is nice thou. Sorry, first impressions are important. This is not a recommendation. read more

This building caught my eye since I first moved to Houston and I was very satisfied after trying it for the first time recently. The building is very pretty and aesthetic. On a Sunday afternoon it took about 10 minutes for a spot to become available in the tight parking lot so I would probably come at a time that's less busy in this area. The food was amazing and well priced for a generous portion, I got crispy orange tofu and fried rice; it was some of the best orange tofu I've ever had and I order that quite a lot. Their nitro Thai tea was sooo good too. They have a nice cute patio to sit on to enjoy the weather too. read more

Good Asian food. Not sure I'd call this fusion as they're all the "normal" menu options but it's good for lunch. Very generous portion. Has the curry which was good though not Dumplings were good too. read more

First review of 2019! Wow, and what better place to start than writing my first review based on my suggestions: The Rice Box at Greenway Plaza in Houston. I have been to this place a few times, mostly in my time working offsite at their nearby office building (5 Greenway Plaza). The Rice Box is nestled down on the lower floors of a cafeteria area surrounded by other restaurants, men and women in business casual clothing, TV's blaring the daily news and a cone shaped window looking up in the middle of a indoor courtyard. The Rice Box is a Chinese restaurant that I find to be ~alright~ for the most part. Being Asian myself, this place was about on par with other Chinese American restaurants in the Houston area (take Panda Express for example. This place and Panda Express is NOT authentic Chinese food). Nice atmosphere, great decor on the outside, nice friendly staff, but I was mostly here for the food. Will this food disappoint me or make me come back for more? That is the real question of the day. The food was... what I thought it would be. A lot of rice (and I mean a lot.), medium sized portions of protein, some veggies, and an eggroll. To be honest, not a bad price for the amount of food you get (it's like really heavy and really big). But, that container is filled with like 75% rice and 25% everything else. Get the portions right people! Other than that, 3/5, would come back if I am desperate... and there are like 6 other restaurants/places to eat in that lower concourse area, so there you go. read more

The Rice Box - Omg is that a breaking bad refrence - Asian Fusion Near Me - Houston, Texas

The chicken curry fried rice was so good. Rice was cooked perfectly, the chicken tender, and the spice level was on point. It was spicy but not overpowering. It was very flavorful. The portion size was also plentiful. The fried dumplings were fried a little too hard. They were hard and chewy but not horrible. This is the reason for the four stars. Next time I would probably get steamed because I will be back because the curry rice was amazing. read more

Big portions for sure, practically two meals in one! The lines at lunch time can get long and chaotic. If you are super hungry then go here and you'll definitely put yourself in a food coma. I like that they are very vegetarian friendly. Veggie eggroll substitutes. You can make any entree vegetarian and they replace the meat with cauliflower and mix in the sauce. Not bad! For me, its too greasy but the fried rice is really good. Some people dont realize but the box it comes in opens up into a plate. Only hard part would be if you want to take some home for later. read more

I came in for a quick to go lunch and opted for the wings box with sauce on side but I should have went with the fried rice. Unfortunately after waiting to eat when I got home I didn't check my food there and came to see that the wings were really burnt. They had a slight bitter/charred taste. At least the egg roll was good or I was really hungry cause I ate that in the car. I've had their fried rice before when A friend ordered it and I remembered it was good. read more

The parking lot is quite small for this place. it's a cute little place, very aesthetic especially if you come at night. I tried the sesame shrimp and definitely was not a fan. I also shared the sesame tofu with a friend and I LOVE IT. It was so crispy and so amazing couldn't even tell it was tofu. Next time I will try the tofu with the noodles instead of rice. It's worth the price for sure because they give a lot. Also cool chill vibes so definitely something nice to check out! read more

Simply fantastic - it's like the mall food court shop evolved into a gourmet 5 star restaurant

The service was very quick and efficient. The place looks amazing. Love the way they set it up with such a small area to work with. Love eating at greenway plaza because it was so much selection and a nice atmosphere. The food wasn't all that. The fried rice wasn't great and the pepper steak I order was so sweet and the carrots were undercooked. Will try a different plate next time and give an updated review. I got a nitro Thai tea and it was beyond amazing. Def recommend. The right about of sweetness too. It sort of looks like beer especially with the foam but it's non dairy so a great plus ! read more

Ok. Nothing soecial. Tofu is cooker well and so are vegetables but not a lot of flavor and not a lot of sauce. I need to try a few other dishes like the Mongolian. Will give it another chance. Also, when I ask got soy sauce I'd prefer if it they'd give us more than one and same with siracha. read more

Rice Box is a new fad I feel. Food is decent and in my opinion beats Asian food from food court at Malls but with so many authentic options around Houston I only visit when I'm too lazy to drive to Bellaire or wanting a change of scenery. read more

One of my favorite Chinese dishes is chow-fun. Growing up in NYC we used to make late nite Chinatown runs to the noodle shops and chow down. You don't see chow fun here in TX so when I saw it on the rice box menu I was overjoyed, especially that I work in the building. Well the first time I tried to order it they were out, so I figured ok I will have the bok choy. The menu seems that you could customize your dishes but apparently not the Bok choy- the cashier insisted it ONLY comes with shrimp and cannot be changed. So I'm thinking if it can't be changed it has to be pre-made , and who wants that??? So I passed. Today I was more hungry than usual and took a walk downstairs to see if I could finally get some chow fun. This time they had it so I ordered it with chicken, but what a disappointment. This ain't Chinatown!! First off, I asked the (same) cashier to not add oil, he insisted (again) that they have to use oil, and felt the urge to let me know that Chinese food is not healthy at all but said will ask them to just use a little, I agreed. Well of course it came out super greasy, there was also a ton of sloppily cut green onion - way too much in proportion to the dish, way too little chicken - about 4 pieces of dark meat chunks, and wayyyyyyy too much salt, like it's 2 1/2 hours later, I feel light headed, my lips are parched, and still have a horrible taste of onion in my mouth. There's no love here. Welp anyway, wasted enough time and money on this place-I guess I will continue to go without chow fun until I go back to NY. read more

I came here during lunch twice. The concept is cute, where the meat is over the rice. Alittle pricey. 1st time I came here. I order the beef and broccoli. Almost $10. It may look like there's a lot of food but in reality it's a lot of rice and the beef and broccoli is on top. I had better else where. 2nd time - I had order the beef chow fun. Almost $13. Alittle on the greasy side but I like that they add shredded cabbage in it. Usually the traditional Chinese beef chow does not have cabbage in it. It taste pretty good. Both entrees come with an egg roll. My coworker got the chicken dumpling and a small fried rice. It taste pretty good. These 2 items wasn't that expensive. read more

Honestly, i would rather eat a tire than eat any of the food from this place. Like how do you mess up an egg roll

I was always curious about this place when I saw their other location in the Heights. The food exceeded my expectations. I got the sesame chicken and was amazed by it. The chicken was battered in a sweet and tangy sauce. The portion is generous and you get an eggroll too! It comes with white rice but you can substitute it with brown rice for an extra charge. I can only eat half of the chicken for lunch and saved the other half for dinner. (8/10) Another favorite is the fried chicken dumplings! The six dumplings are fried until golden. The chicken filling is moist and savory. Dip it in their house sauce and you will be begging for another one. You can also get the dumplings steamed which taste equally satisfactory. (9/10) Fried rice: Two different sizes Small ($4.99) and Large ($6.99). Then the protein add ons are extra. You can choose from shrimp, beef, chicken, and tofu (The prices range from $1-$3 extra for individual proteins. If you order a combo of the proteins then it will be more expensive). The fried rice is made of the protein(s), bean sprouts, eggs, and chives. The meal also comes with an eggroll and a fortune cookies. A small is VERY filling. It usually puts me to sleep so I always have to wake myself up with some coffee or tea afterwards. The overall flavor is magnificent and is one of my favorite places to get fried rice. (8/10) Nitro Thai Tea: If you're lactose intolerant but is craving for a thai tea, then Rice Box created something special for you! Using some sort of black magic, they were able to infuse the tea with a charge of nitrogen to give the top head of the tea a rich and creamy blend without the diary addictive. It looks like a nitro draft beef (like Guinness) but is actually a nitro thai tea!!! So refreshing! (9/10) This location is located inside one of the parking garages for Greenway Plaza so just keep that in mind. You will have to park at one of the meters if you're not one of the employees there. read more

Too much soy sauce in the rice it's almost black other than that it's pretty good! I ordered the chicken fried rice with egg rolls the rolls are good as well. If it didn't have a lot of soy sauce I would give a 5 star. Taste is on point but a bit salty bc of the soy sauce. read more

Great spot for fried rice at a good price. If mason takes your order consider yourself lucky. It'll always be quick and taste great.

Both the curry chicken fried rice and beef were disappointing dishes that lacked in the flavor department. The Mongolian beef had a decent amount of flavor though and the sauces they provided as condiments for that dish help ensured that was the case. The reason I'm giving a 3 star rather than a 1 is because of the rice. The rice itself is good enough. read more

I always order lunch from here but never dine there but I will have to say the curry fried rice has to be my most favorites of the dishes

Delicious orange chicken. It tasted very fresh, and it wasn't drowning in congealed orangey syrup. The guy at the register was super friendly and gave me a handout to show how to fold my takeout box into a plate. I didn't get the hang of it, and felt pretty dumb! But that was a blessing in disguise since I needed to take half my food to go! I will be back again. read more

This location is terrible and I will never go back. The food was terrible and it looked and felt like my food was cooked in the entire bottle of cooking oil. This place was a little difficult to find, but I was determined to try this place!! I parked in the greenway underground garage which charged me $2.00 between 2 min to 60 minutes. I walked inside and came across a concourse of different types of vendors, bbq, Mediterranean, and the tie box to name a few. They have a full menu, with a small sit down bar with about four seats. They were very fast and very nice. The food was delicious, I ordered the general GAO chicken with brown rice. It didn't taste premade or microwaved. - it take more than an hour to bring the food out - You forget multiple orders - Angry, rude short tempered manager/guy host getting mad at customers for their own mistake - Food comes out wrong drenched in oil - Forget your drink order and have to remind them twice - Highly understaffed and untrained new folks at the counter Our team went to eat here and they usually have a big line. Even then not sure why they only have 2 people in front. This time they seemed to have a new guy to take in the order. He rings up the drink order and then forgets to make them. Our team Of 20 ordered and then we all waited for an hour for the order to come out. After an hour the food starts coming out. Initially the host is confused on whose order is whose, so they have to check the whole list again, then she starts calling names of folks. The host can't handle it, the guy who looks like the owner/manager has to come out. I was in the middle of the pack when ordered. Turns out they - Forgot to make 2 of the orders - Did not even ring up one of the guys order So as he is getting to the end of the list, I checked with the person who ringed up the order. He still claims it's coming out. Everyone gets their order except 3 of us. Asked the manager again. He rudely begins telling us, did you even order, are you on this list, I said 'the guy who ringed up is right there he just confirmed '. He angrily starts responding, what did you order we don't have you here. At this point after waiting an hour, I am already very frustrated to the point of canceling my order and going some where else. I said it's on the list and my names is on there. He keeps responding Rudely and angrily. Finally gets the order made and keeps shouting - What do you want- Fork or Chop sticks. Such an attitude. Turns out they did not even start on friends order. He still continues to wait there for much longer. I understand the stress of the lunch hour rush, but if you make a mistake and mess up or worse don't even make a customers order and make them wait more than an hour for it. Own it up. Let them know it was a mistake and get their order ready. Do not be extra rude to them or be angry at them cause you can't manage a place. read more
