I've had this place bookmarked for a minute and decided to pick up lunch here because I had the strongest craving in a while for *drumroll* ... orange chicken. Nothing upscale or authentic, but orange chicken like you'd find in a mall food court. Sichuan Pepper Express fit the bill. You walk in and all of the food is premade and sitting under heat lamps for who knows how long. The lady behind the counter was super sweet and immediately helped me. The combo plates start at 1 entree choice + 1 side for $8.50. Add an additional entree for only $2 more. I ordered the Combo 3 which is 3 entree choices + 1 side for $12.50. For the amount of food I was given, quite a reasonable price. For my entrees I got the (you guessed it) Orange Chicken, Black Pepper Chicken, and Amazing Spicy Chicken. All "fried" dishes...by no means authentic. But everything surprisingly stayed crispy and hot on the drive to my office. The Orange Chicken had a good amount of sauce on the outside, but quite dry on the inside. The Black Pepper Chicken was probably my favorite and was small crispy pieces of chicken in a black pepper sauce with onions and jalapeños. the Amazing Spicy Chicken is basically the fried spicy chicken cubes you'll find at any Szechuan restaurant. This was my first experience seeing it in a mall-style restaurant pre-made. While I will always order this when eating Szechuan food, I thought the one here had a tinge of sweetness to it, which I found a bit off-putting. For my side, I got the fried rice which was your standard fried rice. I did notice that this one had quite a few pieces of raw onion in it, perhaps did not get fully cooked through in the stir fry process. As a result, a few of my bites had a bite to it because I was rawdogging these onions. Definitely a spot for convenience if you're in the mood for quick Chinese food on the go. While there is room for improvement in the quality, need not forget that all the food here is pre-made and has been sitting out until you order it. Food was delicious. Restaurant is very spacious. My powered wheelchair fit underneath the table they were just a bit lower than normal. Service was good, only comment would be to give the ppl a chance to look over the menu. It felt a little rushed, but overall they were kind and attentive. Would definitely come back! read more

This used to be one of my go to places, but after tonight, I don't think I can ever eat there again, the egg drop soup tasted like water with egg in it, zero flavor, the spicy chicken was old and cold, the salt toasted shrimp was also old and cold, the only flavor was that of salt/MSG. So I went to this place to eat with my friend. We picked it because it was cheap and they gave good portions, but this is what I saw when I paid for my food. They have cooked chicken in plastic bins, not covered and sitting on shelves. I confronted the staff and asked them what that is and she said it was the orange chicken they are waiting to serve... and that's what I had gotten to eat. Truly disgusted and if they have this sitting out in the open who knows what they do in the back. Nobody was using gloves and when I confronted the chef they moved the chicken to who knows where. The server offered samples which I gladly accepted.The spicy chicken which is what I thought that I would order was fairly hard/not fresh. I asked the server what his favorites were. Samples of pepper chicken & salt & pepper shrimp were hot, fresh & tender. That is not what ended up in my order. I dug in as soon as I got to the car & was so let down. The onions were not caramelized & were very harsh. I love onions! I was there around 5:00. All of the containers for each dish were full. I suppose they were prepared for the dinner rush. I would not have wanted to eat my food at that temperature. I heated it when I got home. The chicken was pretty tough. I think that it would have been that way had I eaten it at the time that I received it. The chow mein was the best. I'm frugal, but I'd rather pay more for higher quality made to order food. The portion was good sized.I'm sure that the food would be much better had I been fortunate enough to order & receive something that had just been prepared. I got plenty of rice and a side order of steamed vegetables which were dark and green and look like they actually had lots of nutrients in them. Regular Chinese food similar setup to what you'd see in a mall or Panda Express (except food tastes way better) Pretty cheap prices and they give you A LOT of food!! I opted for the 3 option combo (3 meats + rice or noodles) which was around $11. The only con about this place is none of the food is labeled. I inquired about a few of the meats and the guy working there never gave me a clear answer on what the dish/meat entree was. I only got responses like "this is white meat and this is dark meat " and "the sauces are different " So I was kinda guessing what I was choosing just by the look of the food. Picked up food to go, it was my first time trying this place and I was a bit hesitant to order from here because it reminds me of the fast food Panda Express but my friend said it was good so I tried it. There is plenty of parking because it is located in a commercial building plaza. I called in my order and it was ready when I arrived. They have tons of sauces and wonton cookies too. The portions are really generous and it is inexpensive. The food itself isn't 5 star worthy. It it is very good for it being fast food. It has been years since I have written a review. I used to frequent this place, which had great food. But something happened, and the culture changed, in my opinion. I went in last night near closing and couldn't get the split side (chow mien/rice) side, their prerogative, but to try to charge more than 3$ to add steamed rice as a half side is a bit much. I got fried rice + orange chicken & Mongolian beef. We preferred the orange chicken and pepper steak. Mongolian beef was mixed with too many onions, so I feel it wasn't worth it. Pepper steak was surprisingly tender and tasty. General tso's chicken had a lot of batter that was too soggy. Orange chicken had more chicken. BF really liked the thick chow mein noodles. Both the noodles and rice were good to me. Noodles were a bit greasier than the fried rice. It was a generous portion, especially for the price, but we killed our food since we were both starving. You could make it into 2 meals if you're not that hungry. We might return if we're craving Chinese food. Meaning - you pick a base - rice, fried rice, noodles and then pick entrees (1,2 or 3). They also have add ons like egg rolls, crab puffs, wings, soups. I've had their fried rice both times which I liked and their chicken and broccoli, Mongolian beef, coconut shrimp and salt and pepper shrimp. (I have been twice remember) My favourite was the chicken and broccoli and the coconut shrimp. Their hot and sour soup was really good. Sometimes places water it down but theirs was fragrant. It's quick and easy and the staff are super friendly. And it's nothing like Panda Express. Nothing. I was excited to see that there's a sichuan place in the area! It's bot exactly a traditional restaurant. Imagine a spicy panda express with the cafeteria style of ordering. They offer rice and chow mein as your base and you can choose from a variety of proteins and vegetables to accompany your meal. I had the spicy fish and spicy chicken. Not spicy but may be if u can't handle spice and has that nice sichuan/mala taste I also got hot and sour soup which was standard and v good, and the crab Rangoon which does not skimp on filling! Overall the service was friendly she was v helpful because I couldn't decide what to get. And all of this was only $16 and change and look at the portions! Fantastic Sichuan spot! You can get authentic Sichuan food at a fraction of the prices of other restaurants. You can get 3 entrees and 1 side for only $9.95. With inflation at an all time high, the prices here can't be beat! Food here is served cafeteria style with a variety of different options to choose from. My personal favorites are the Amazing Spicy Chicken and Mapo Tofu. The chicken was really crispy with plenty of spice. The tofu was soft with just the right amount of numbing flavor. The food is easily comparable to top Sichuan places in Houston such as Mala. Overall, I highly recommend Sichuan Pepper Express! I came here solo for lunch on a whim. I got General Tso and fried rice, along with egg drop soup. My meal was tasty but I have a few complaints about this spot. I was eating a huge $2 egg drop soup with a tiny spoon. Then I asked for a knife and was told they don't have any, the general tso was in very large, bigger than bite size pieces. The chili oil is pre-poured into tiny to go containers behind the register. So was the soy sauce. So overall I feel that the owner is cheap and likes to cut costs. Just serve a much smaller soup and include it with the meal, as most other Chinese spots do. Give me a soup spoon and a knife. Stop gate keeping condiments. Rant over. read more

Think of this place as REALLY GOOD mall chinese food. And 100x better than Panda Express. And as an Asian who likes mall food for what it is, this is supposed to be a compliment!! The concept is exactly like the mall food court. The menu options are pretty authentic from and not just your typical Chinese American sesame chicken and lo mein. I got the salt and pepper shrimp dish and the eggplant dish which are two dishes I would get normally get at a sit down chinese restaurant. Both were flavorful and didn't taste too MSG-y. The eggplant tasted pretty much the same as a dine in authentic restaurant. The salt and pepper shrimp dish used the smaller shrimps that you see used in fried rice. (Not the tiny one but the small one if you know what I mean LOL). So that was a tiny bit disappointing but still enjoyed how it tasted and hey, I'm getting what I paid for. Oh and they also let me try their general tso and I appreciated how I actually tasted chicken and not just fried batter. Overall, would definitely be back. Mediocre Chinese fast food. It will do in a pinch for a quick lunch. Main positive is that they have a large selection on the menu as far as your typical Chinese fast food dishes. I had the Combo 2 with sweet and sour pork, salt and pepper shrimp with fried rice as the side. Sweet and Sour Pork - not bad, but not in the style that I like. I prefer mine fried in a light batter with the sauce on the side. I've found the this dish is fixed differently depending on what part of China you're from. The pork was covered in red sauce with a light batter. The sauce had just the right amount of sweetness, but the dish was just ok.
