The meats were very tender, especially the ribeye. You also have the usual selection of raw seafood and veggies in the center buffet line. They also have a side line for hot foods and jelly desserts. Service was excellent. Our waiter Jun was very attentive and friendly, explaining every detail to us during our first visit and always coming by to check on us. They had some technical difficulties with my cooker, so they even gave me a 20% discount just because it was taking a bit longer to boil at first. I would definitely come here more often if I didn't have to drive to the opposite side of town.

Pork soup 4/5 Could be more porky but subtle and decent for layering meats and veggies Tomato broth 4/5 Cuts the fat of the protein due to slight tartness but not too overpowering so I fairly enjoyed this soupbase! Meats Beware they are thicker than you think so just get one order of each meat cut first before doubling on meats! The quality was fine and tasted fresh. I think my favorite was the pork since I was impressed by how clean it tasted. Beef was again kinda thick but by 4 plates in I got flavor fatigued. Oosthmetheus jelly (10/10) Saved. My. Life. Refreshing and slightly sweet and tart just what I needed! Service 10/10 Very accomodating and attentive however this is a FOOD review so it is not factored in when rating the stars. P.S. they open until 1am on certain days, so that is a plus if you are craving hotpot late at night. Ambiance Chill. I think this place is better for dates or friends however children could go but they wouldn't be able to explore and enjoy the many options due to the young pallete.

One thing I really appreciate is that every server, no matter who we have, always asks about food allergies. It's a thoughtful touch that helps ensure everyone can enjoy their meal without worry. The drinks are always delicious, and their Happy Hour menu is easily one of the best in the Heights. It's really really nicely rebuilt inside this place, when it used to be a church. I do like their rice bowls, but it always comes with 6 bites of rice and 3 bites of protein. Service was quite prompt, since we were part of an event. Lastly, I disagree with their offering of their beer garden as a private event option when this place has 4 fans in each corner of the room, strong indeed, but better be strong because it has no AC. It's Houston, 90+° on average, 6 months of the year. Ugh.

Being recognized among the 25 best new restaurants in the country certainly caught our attention, and we were curious to discover what made this Houston restaurant so special. We arrived with high expectations, and I can confidently say that the experience did not disappoint. The first thing that stood out wasn't the food, but the people and the atmosphere. From the moment we walked through the door until we left, the hospitality was extraordinary. Our server, Jorge, was wonderful, but what truly impressed us was how that same level of warmth, professionalism, and attentiveness extended to the entire staff. Everyone made us feel genuinely welcome, something that speaks volumes about the restaurant's commitment to hospitality. The atmosphere complemented the experience perfectly. The restaurant had a lively, welcoming energy, with great music playing at just the right volume, loud enough to enjoy but never interfering with conversation. It's those thoughtful details, combined with exceptional service, that make a dining experience truly memorable. Then came the food, and this is where the experience became even more interesting. We started with the Savory Scallion Waffle with Fried Orange Chicken, and what an incredible combination of flavors! The chicken was cooked to perfection, with a beautifully crispy exterior that reminded me of traditional Southern fried chicken. But what really elevated the dish was the orange sauce. Its sweet and tangy character complemented the savory chicken beautifully, creating a combination that felt both familiar and surprisingly different. The scallion waffle was equally impressive. It had everything a properly prepared waffle should have: a lightly crispy, golden exterior, a soft and tender interior, and plenty of flavor. What made the dish exceptional was the perfect balance between savory and sweet. The richness of the fried chicken, the sweetness and acidity of the orange sauce, and the savory notes of the waffle worked together in complete harmony. Nothing overpowered anything else. Every component complemented the others, making this a truly memorable interpretation of chicken and waffles. Next came the Chilled Noodles, a dish that immediately caught our attention because, unlike the noodle dishes we're accustomed to, these were served cold. It was an interesting change, but one that worked beautifully. The flavors were excellent, delivering everything you would expect from a great noodle dish, with the ginger and scallion adding a wonderful savory character. However, what really stood out to both of us were the pieces of pickled shiitake mushrooms. Their earthy, rich flavor, combined with a subtle tanginess, added an unexpected dimension to the noodles. It's amazing how one ingredient can elevate an entire dish, and in this case, the mushrooms did exactly that. What initially seemed like an unusual choice turned into another pleasant surprise. Of course, no brunch would be complete without a couple of good cocktails, so we ordered a Mimosa and a Bloody Mary. Both were very good, but the Mimosa particularly stood out. It was well prepared, refreshing, and had a generous pour of alcohol. They certainly didn't skimp on the champagne! It had just the right balance of flavor and strength, making it clear that Agnes & Sherman takes its cocktails just as seriously as its food. A great complement to an already excellent brunch. Just when we thought we had experienced all the culinary surprises of the afternoon, dessert arrived. We ordered the Pandan Nice Cream Sundae, and this was probably our most unexpected discovery. Nice cream is a plant-based alternative to traditional ice cream, and I wasn't entirely sure what to expect from a vegan frozen dessert. To our surprise, it was incredibly flavorful, wonderfully light, and refreshing. The pandan brought a delicate, distinctive flavor that made the dessert feel different from a traditional ice cream sundae. It was satisfying without feeling heavy or overly rich, making it the perfect way to finish brunch. Definitely a pleasant surprise and something we would happily order again. The restaurant was packed during brunch, so I would strongly recommend making a reservation in advance. Also, be prepared for a little challenge when it comes to parking. There was no valet service available, and finding street parking can be difficult, especially during busy hours. My advice is to arrive a little early and allow yourself extra time to find a spot. Looking back at our visit, what impressed me most was how everything came together. The extraordinary hospitality made us feel welcome from beginni

Gotta give shoutout to the decor and ambiance. It's super cozy. Probably weird to say but I loved the tiles in the hallway to restroom. So the food. Outside of the novelty the flavors are just ok. It's cool to have these Asian twists to western food but nothing really wowed me. Even tho it's popular I'd say pass on the chicken and waffles. The butter was delicious and the waffle was crispy but I'd rather have a regular scallion pancake. And the orange chicken was like any other. Think I prefer the smaller crispier pieces u get at other places. They do give u good amount of meat tho since it whole thigh. The best thing was the shrimp toast. It's like honey walnut shrimp but with toast. They have a layer of shrimp mousse and the sauce on top of toast. Unique way to serve a classic flavor. The hamburger fried rice was solid. Like a Big Mac but fried rice. My mom said it tasted like Zatarin dirty rice. Not bad but yeah I'd give it another shot to try their brunch menu which looks better and has more options. But first impression is that it's alright. Didn't hate it. Didn't love it. And it's out of my way so I doubt I'd go again.

We ordered: Hong Kong milk tea - good, no complaint Chicken wings - arrived after our entrees. It looks delicious but was bland, really lacking flavor and undercooked. I didn't really get to enjoy this dish! Sizzling Steak - we asked for the sauce on the side. But the dish was not sizzling and the plate wasn't even hot. The steak was tender, noodles al dente, but the sauce lacked flavor as well. I couldn't really tell what sauce I was dipping into. Service is fine, considering there was only one waitress and only two other small parties while we dined. Unfortunately, I think this would be my last trip here, considering that the one dish I crave from here, sea urchin pasta, no longer tastes right. So sad.

Everything in…read moretheir menu is something great, with some of my personal favorites being the Homestyle Trio with Eggplant, their Mapo Tofu (off menu, no gatekeeping), their Spicy Chicken Noodle Soup (a wee too spicy for me personally, but I love the simplicity of it), and the General Tso's Chicken. The eggplant dish mentioned is very rich and flavorful, with the eggplant cooked to be soft and almost mushy (but in a good way), nicely complimented by particularly the beef. Their lo mein is a little watery on various occasions, but still maintains a great and very nice flavor. Their fried rice is one of my favorites in the area and is always very well made no matter the time of day. The fried chicken wings, crab puffs, and crab bomber appetizers are both just such standouts in what is often an overlooked part of the menu by many restaurants. I have nothing but praise about how this place handles food. The staff is all really nice and welcoming from entrance to walking out the door. They are very good with order additions or food/allergy restrictions and the dishes always come out in a timely (but not rushed) manner, no matter whether it is a weekday morning or a busy dinner crowd. I'd recommend the lunch special for anyone coming around that time, as the deal of egg rolls, soup, and an entree or 2-3 sushi rolls for a low price is a steal. The ambiance nice for sure and the tables are clean, though I do sometimes get disoriented by the wallpaper they use (I think it's just me though). Whenever this place first opened, I was very disappointed in the restaurant. Meals were salt with a side of meat and rice and was just overall underwhelming. But now, it is one of my family's go to places whenever we need quality food in a short distance. Definitely worth a try, even over other restaurants in the area that serve a similar menu.

She now knows that they do have serve a salmon dish that comes with jumbo shrimp, steamed vegetables and the rice of your choice. This dish was pretty good. I could have done without the jumbo jalapeño though. I enjoyed the seaweed salad. It came with a bed of lettuce and a creamy dressing. Not the typical seaweed salad, but enjoyable nonetheless.

It is very much a chain restaurant, and it has that polished, standardized feel to it. I've eaten here a number of times, and while I wouldn't say the food stands out above some of the other Chinese restaurants in the area, everything I've had has always been good. I've never gotten anything that tasted bad or had an order come out wrong. It's just consistently solid. One sleeper hit on their menu, though, is the lava buns. They're warm egg custard buns like you'll sometimes find at dim sum places, and they are really good. Honestly, they're probably one of my favorite things here. I've even stopped by after already having dinner just to get an order to take home for dessert. They're definitely best hot, so I'd recommend eating them pretty quickly. The design of the restaurant is probably more memorable than the main food. They really committed to a specific industrial, techno-chic look with neon signs, animated menu boards, exposed metal, acrylic panels, textured wall details, and movies playing by the bar. The theme is carried throughout the whole place really well. At the same time, all of the metal and harder surfaces can make the inside feel a little cold and unwelcoming. There isn't much traditional indoor seating. Most of the seating inside is at the bar, with additional tables outside under some shade. Because of that, it's probably not my first choice for sitting down for lunch during a hot Houston day, but it works really well as a pickup or takeout spot. The staff has always been friendly, and they have a good system for getting people in and out. The parking lot is a little small, but since a lot of people seem to be picking up food, spots turn over pretty quickly. Overall, The Rice Box is convenient, dependable, and does what it does well. It definitely feels like a chain, but the design has a strong personality and the food is consistently good. It's not my favorite Chinese food in the Heights, but I've never had a bad experience here. And the lava buns are absolutely worth getting.
