Visiting Houston. Wait time is a little annoying be prepared to wait about 20-30 minutes if you're eating inside because they have to also compete with DoorDash and online orders. I got medium tenders and added a coleslaw to go along with the fries and Dave's is pretty good, it is more seasoning than Canes obviously. I came to Dave's Hot Chicken during the Drake's Bday promotion when you get a free single slider via the app. We got there around 6:30 pm and there was a line out the door, which was as expected. This was clearly not the staffs first rodeo so the wait time was not nearly as long as we expected. After we ordered our food came out pretty quickpy as well. I choose medium heat since it was my first time trying Dave's and I was sure of the spice level. The flavor was good and next time I'll try a spicier version. This chicken left a lot to be desired. With all of the social media hype and pandemonium I was really excited to try this place. And while I will say the spice level was perfect, it really lacked additional flavor. The fries were decent, and the sauce was definitely something that I could do without. On a positive note the coleslaw was really good and they do have some great high sea slushy and I enjoyed that. Separately, I don't know if this is the location's issue or not, but when we walked in and placed our order. We were the only people in the restaurant and it took us 35 minutes to get our food. I was in the area one day craving a chicken sandwich and I have never been to Dave's so I thought this was the day. The lady that helped me order was very nice and explained how everything works. From the spice levels, to what is on the sandwiches. Unfortunately, I was let down by the taste and spice level. I got the 2 sliders with fries in the spice level "extra hot". I would say that my spice level is pretty good and I can tolerate a good amount of spice. I think they said the "reaper" spice level required a signed waiver and I didn't really want to do that so I just went one spice level down. I got my food to-go and ate at home. The food was still fairly hot when I got home and the smell of the spices smelled promising in the car. The fries were good but the chicken sandwich was not spicy at all. I was really let down because I wanted it to be spicy and even any remote flavor. The sandwich had some kind of sauce on it and pickles and I would say that the pickles were the best part of it. I wish that if the sandwiches were that much and spice level the second most hottest, that it would be pretty good. They provided extra of the sauce that comes on the sandwich but I think that it didn't help make it taste any better. I was having a conversation with a friend and she brought this place up and was surprised I had never tried it. 15 minutes later we were on our way to Dave's hot chicken! I like some spice but my friend recommended I get the mild since she found the medium to be unbearable. I regret listening to her because although the mild did have great flavor it did not have the kick that I wanted from "hot chicken". I ordered the slider and tender combo and WOW the chicken was perfectly crispy. The sauce was super flavorful as well and I loved the thick cut pickles that came on the side. The fries had some sort of old bay seasoning (my favorite) and were also perfectly crisp! Personally, one slider is plenty of food for me. These are not "sliders" they are full on sandwiches haha. I could not finish all of my food unfortunately but everything was very very good. Special shout out to the staff working the Friday lunch rush (2/9). Place your order at the counter and they will call your number once your food is ready. Easy. Ambiance (3/5): Pretty much what you would expect. Modern and clean with a good amount of seating. They have a couple of tables outside too which is nice. That's where I sat on my most recent visit. Drinks (3/5): Your typical soft drinks plus shakes. I always appreciate a place that offers shakes but I have yet to try them here. Food (3/5): I've had their hot chicken sandwich and their fries and mac and cheese. Good and bad here. The mac and cheese underwhelms so I'd avoid that. Th fries on the other hand are legit. They're crispy and seasoned well. And now, the star of the show: the hot chicken sandwich. Like most places, you choose your hotness level. Unlike all hot chicken joints, here you'll get their special chilled Dave's Sauce (similar to Cane's sauce) and honey. Lather your sandwich in Dave's Sauce. It's legit. I wouldn't put Dave's at the top of the hot chicken standings (there are some local spots I like better) but for a chain, it is solid. The place inside it's nice and small with cool graffiti murals. The food is great and tasty !! Got my self the number 3 extra hot!! Overall great in food and ambience but, due to service definitely will not come back and just keep going to my regular rice village location. Service here is just bad. Daylon will great you with the most unpleasant smile and so making your order process unpleasant. The food handler she was just unpleasant as the cashier. I've been a regular at this location for quite a while. I used to order at least once a week and was always impressed with the consistency and flavor. I hadn't ordered in about a month, but decided to give it another try today because I was craving it. Unfortunately, this experience was really disappointing. I placed a pickup order through the app (I live nearby), and while I understand pickup food can sometimes lose a bit of freshness, this order was noticeably off. Everything was cold, soggy, and tasted old, as if it had been sitting for a while before being packed. The biggest issue was the lack of spice and flavor. I ordered my cauliflower sandwiches in medium and hot, but both were completely bland. The stickers on the containers said "no spice" and "medium," which might've been a labeling mix-up -- but neither sandwich had any heat or seasoning at all. The breading was undercooked, soggy, and falling apart, making it hard to even eat. As a vegan, I don't have many options around here, and this used to be one of my reliable go-tos. As far as the chicken and waffles, they advertise 6 Dave's bites and 4 waffle sticks but when I opened my to-go container, I was given 4 Dave's bites. It's kind of frustrating that I was shorted food considering the entree itself is really small as it is. It was in a mini to-go container. Fries or a drink aren't included which is annoying because for $3 more, I could've gotten a 2 tender meal that includes fries and would have gotten bigger portions and fries. I can honestly say this place slacked in my expectations horribly. Everything was significantly underwhelming from the service, the price, and most importantly the food that was provided to me. The inside of the place is also nothing to marvel at. Just a typical quick food lobby with some tables and chairs. It was more of a lackluster smoked heat flavor and it tasted terrible. The sauce provided was even worse. The fries were soggy and lacked seasoning, I could've bit into a barely cooked potato and been confused on which was which. The only reason I'll give one star is the chocolate milkshake that was just straight from a frosty style machine.
