I typically visit the Layne's on Shepherd and had never visited this particular Layne's before. In the future, I'd probably skip this location because, in my view, it just doesn't live up to the standards quality-wise that I expect from Layne's. Not sure how people who visit Layne's in College Station would rate this location, but I see a few differences between the Shepherd and Ella locations. The Shepherd location has decent parking - you could easily drive around to the parking lot to eat if you wanted to. The design of the Ella location, however, makes that more difficult. We do like the drive thru "tunnel" at Ella, which has a really cool mural featuring a chicken dressed as an astronaut, lol. Cue: Cibo Matto's "Know Your Chicken." The issue is: once you leave the drive thru, you only have the option of driving on to Ella, and it's the stretch of Ella near 610, which is always super busy! We drove back to a side street, but you also have the option of sitting at tables outside. If there's an issue with your order, like there was with mine, and you're not sitting outside (it's too hot anyways), you then have to drive back around through the drive thru and back on to Ella. This is a hassle. On a different note, I will break everything down by numerical ratings:: 1. Toast - 1/5. Totally burnt. Dark brown color. 2. Gravy - 2/5. Tepid, no flavor. Whataburger's gravy is better. Haha 3. Layne's Sauce - 2/5. Usually good, but flavorless here. 4. Fries - 4/5. These were good but the oil the fries were fried in seemed old. Also not many fries in the box. 5. Tenders - 3/5. Fried kind of hard, not juicy. The toast was so bad - I just broke off a small piece. So I couldn't really enjoy my lunch. At first, the cashier at drive thru apologized. Then she reversed course and actually had the nerve to say this is how we make the toast here. No ma'am, you are straight up lying, lol. Cue: Montel Jordan's "This Is How We Do It." Hahaha. Seriously, you could have just stuck with the apology and re-made the toast (which they did), but arguing with customers after an apology about poor quality is wild. No Thank You. I doubt I would return.

I was given some of smallest chicken strips I have ever seen. The person who took my order was also rude. Almost $11.00 for this?

Terrible. Never going again. Customer service is not up to standard. The person that took my order was rude. I received three small chicken strips for about $11.00. I will not be back.

I've had Layne's before in College Station and always thought that the similarity between the meals here and at Raising Canes was very funny. I was recently made aware that a location opened up in Houston and had a craving for some chicken fingers so I figured I'd check it out. As others have mentioned, this location does not have any options to dine inside. The primary way to get a meal here is drive-thru but there is also a window and a few tables outside. I got the 5 finger meal and loved it, I might even say that I thought it was better than Canes. The sauce was more peppery and the breading & seasoning of the chicken was perfect. The only reason that I'm not giving five stars was because the customer service was so-so and can't stand when there's a tip screen at fast food places. Regardless, that won't stop me from coming back and I'd highly encourage everyone to give it a try.

Absolutely amazing service. Mrs. Nelly was extremely helpful and accommodating to us as we ordered our meals. The food was excellent and arrived to us speedily.

I've visited Layne's in College Station as well as Layne's in Katy, and enjoyed both greatly! So I was thrilled to learn that the long-awaited location on Ella had opened. My excitement grew when I pulled up and saw a Halal Guys employee eating at the Layne's. Clearly, this Layne's was the place to be. I liked that Layne's packaged the food in a cardboard box rather than the styrofoam we see so much elsewhere. And the Layne's sauce had that bold, peppery taste just like all of my other visits to Layne's. Layne's also gives you plenty of sauce in the five finger combo. You can go all in with your fries and still have plenty of sauce left for the fingers. That aside, I was pretty let down by my visit. Unlike the other locations I've visited, there is no dine-in space at this Layne's -- it is just a drive-thru and a few picnic tables. The Texas Toast -- my favorite part of a Layne's combo -- lacked the saltiness and butteriness that can make it so good. The tenders from this visit were unmemorable. I expected that the arrival of Layne's to the Loop (well, basically) would replace Cane's as my official chicken tender vendor. But the outstanding Layne's flavors, which are in no shortage at the Katy Layne's, were lacking here thus far. Until they are in full force, I think I'll be taking the turn Layne to Cane's.

We always order from the spicier side of menus, and there's no question when you get your food that they aren't playing around. The chicken is juicy, full of flavor, served on a perfect bun with cole slaw and a couple dill pickle slices. The lightly-battered, seasoned waffle fries are exactly what they should be. The woman who took our order was so nice it almost felt like a hug from your favorite aunt.

I remember the hype this place got as they started out and moved from their original spot to this new spot on Shepard. Now that they have inside seating, I figured it was time to check them out. I was in the area at a local bar with friends, and a few friends ordered Mico's through DoorDash. It looked and smelled so good that I decided I had to have it that night, but at the restaurant. I pulled up to what looks a new building. They share a lot with other businesses but I was able to get a parking spot easily. The restaurant is spacious with lots of seating. They also have bar seating by the register. When I looked around, I noticed alot of people waiting on food. It was a mix of food delivery drivers as well as patrons that had ordered and waiting. There was a customer at the counter going off on the employees and I got to commend the young staff for keeping their cool. That being said, the young staff was friendly and trying their best, but they were drowning and the mood in the place was off. Items were forgotten. People were not getting their food in the order of when they ordered. Four parties ordered after me, with similar items and everyone got their orders before mine. I think I was forgotten and only after one of the staff noticed me waiting did they come and look at my receipt. Time from ordering to receiving my food was close to 40 minutes. This is a hot chicken place that is trying to be somewhat fancy. I was served my food on a nice plated plate. Nice touch, but it felt off for the food being served here. They also give utensils in cloth napkins. No paper towels or napkins in sight. Hot chicken is messy and the cloth napkins was not doing it for me. I ended up up knife and forking my sandwich to keep the messy hands from happening. They also serve their fountain drinks in small cups filled to the brim with us. A few swigs and my drink was almost gone. For a place serving spicy food, a soda fountain with refills or readily available water should be available and out front. Now to the good part. The food was outstanding. I ordered the Chicken Sandwich at their hottest level which also came with a side. I got the waffle fries. The sandwich was voted one of the best dishes in the state by Texas Monthly and I can see why. It was a hefty sandwich with a large chicken breast seasoned to perfection. I always love when their is a little hangover of the chicken outside of the bun. The chicken was crispy but juicy inside. The heat was there but totally bearable with the cooling component of the delicious slaw on top. I usually pick pickles off sandwiches, but the pickles here were good and the acidity added a pleasant touch to the sandwich. The waffle fries were also excellent. They were the battered and seasoned kind which I love. The food most definitely saved the overall experience on my visit here. I will say it is one of the better hot chickens I have had in Houston. Now if they go back to their roots and not try to be fancy and do better on their customer service, I can see this place sticking around for a long time. With my experience, I don't see myself hurrying back anytime soon.

A few small changes that I have noticed since their opening: they no longer offer lunch portions/specials and sadly the Rainbow Bowls no longer come with turmeric cauliflower Oddly, as many times that I have visited, I am either the only one there or at most, 1 of 3 people max. Hopefully it's just the early afternoon time of day I always seem to stop in because I would really like this place to stick around. And as much as I enjoy a good rewards program, their scanner has never worked once since initially joining so I have to manually input my receipt barcode into the app. Not a big deal but I haven't redeemed any rewards yet either so hopefully that will be a smooth process. And if I may end on a suggestion, Please lower the music by 2 levels. I have to put my noise canceling AirPods in every time because it's just a tad too loud and distracting to hold a convo. Other than that, Welcome to the 'Strose Nando's!

Between the group we ordered two HOT Chicken Thunder Fries, the HOT MESS fries, three orders of the jumbo chicken tenders and waffles (two hot honey, one plain), a full order of mac and cheese, and the Cheeseburger Fryders. It was a lot of food and somehow it was all hot, fresh, and honestly really good. I love a sweet and savory combo when I'm expecting it, and this place definitely delivers. The waffles reminded me a lot of classic Waffle House waffles and the tenders were huge and actually seasoned well. The loaded fries were seriously loaded too. Lots of sauce, lots of meat, and we definitely didn't feel cheated. We were stuffed and still had leftovers. The only thing I personally wasn't crazy about were the Fryders. I think mini waffles as buns would've been better, but they weren't bad and my friend scarfed them down. Service was quick once we ordered and the staff was super chill. They let us sit there gossiping and picking at food for almost three hours without making us feel rushed, which I really appreciated. A couple small complaints though. Ordering is only through the iPads so you don't really get to ask questions, and the tables could definitely be wiped down a bit more often. Also the AC could be turned down a little... it was pretty cold in there. That said, the prices are actually pretty reasonable for The Heights. I spent a little over $50 myself and didn't feel scammed one bit considering how much food we ordered. Funny enough we originally tried to go to their Alabama location on Sunday but the line was out the door and parking was a nightmare. My friend literally drove off and told us to cancel. We ended up driving about 26 minutes to this location instead and honestly I'm glad we did. Great food, quick turnaround, and a fun spot to hang out for a while. We'll definitely be back.

I didn't know there was one in Memorial until my administrative assistant suggested it for her birthday with lunch. We were all glad she did because we actually loved it. We dined in on a Wednesday afternoon. The place is somewhat hidden down Gaylord Street behind A Moveable Feast where we ate at for another manager's birthday lunch. The GPS might throw you off a bit. The parking strip is pretty busy, but you can still find a couple spots. It was kind of empty when we came in just before noon. It did get busy after that. You line up and order at the registers, and they give you a number marker to deliver your meal to your table. There's partial booth and low table seating inside. There's fountain drink and tea at the far end of the dining area towards the single gender restrooms. I don't remember what I tried years ago, so I went with the one scoop and two sides. I had the traditional Classic Carol, loaded potato soup and grape salad. My admin asst raved about it, so I had to try. Plus, I needed some fruit in my life. The Classic Carol is plain with celery, mayo and their secret seasoning. I liked that the celery was not overpowering. In fact, I couldn't really see it. I thought it was ok paired with the wheat crackers. I shared some with my other coworker who ordered Olivia's Old South which has sweet pickles and hard boiled eggs. I think I liked that version better. I would like to try the Cranberry Kelli next time which has dried cranberries and slivered almonds. I've had all kinds of chicken salad. It's one of my faves at HEB and will order chicken salad sandwiches at different delis. I grew up with my family making chicken salad, as well. The loaded potato soup was great. It came topped with crispy bacon pieces and shredded cheese. The cup of soup was hot and had nice chunks of potato. The potatoes were soft and perfectly cooked. I ate about half the chicken salad scoop with crackers since the soup made me full. I tried the grape salad and saved the rest. It was delicious. It has a sweet cream cheese sauce over the grapes and is topped with a sprinkle of brown sugar and chopped pecans. My admin asst was right! I also liked their tea, which I mixed with sweet and unsweetened. Other items our group enjoyed was the pimento cheese sandwich, chicken melt and the small sugar cookies the meals came with. I gave mine away. This is definitely a great lunch place option. It's right off the I-10 freeway, so it's nearby a lot of work places including ours. I'm sure we'll be back here even though it is a little pricey. My meal was about $15-16. As a side note, I'm glad we didn't experience having large pieces of cartilage in our chicken salad as other reviews mentioned.
